Abstract:Let $mathbf G$ be a complex orthogonal or complex symplectic group, and let $G$ be a real form of $mathbf G$, namely $G$ is a real orthogonal group, a real symplectic group, a quaternionic orthogonal group, or a quaternionic symplectic group. For a fixed parity $mathbb pin mathbb Z/2mathbb Z$, we define a set $mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$ of nilpotent $mathbf G$-orbits $mathfrak g$ (the Lie algebra of $mathbf G$). When $mathbb p$ is the parity of the dimension of the standard module of $mathbf G$, this is the set of the stably trivial special nilpotent orbits, which includes all rigid special nilpotent orbits. For each $mathcal O in mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$, we construct all unipotent representations of $G$ (or its metaplectic cover when $G$ is a real symplectic group and $mathbb p$ is odd) attached to $mathcal O$ via the method of theta lifting and show particular that they are unitary.

Abstract:Let G be one of the classical groups GL(n), U(n), O(n) or Sp(2n), over a nonarchimedean local field of characteristic zero. It is well known that the contragredient of an irreducible admissible smooth representation of G is isomorphic to a twist of it by an automorphism of G. We prove that similar results hold for double covers of G that occur in the study of local theta correspondences.

Abstract:Let v be the right regular representation of a compact quantum group G. Then (<a class="link-external link-http" href="http://S.L.Woronowicz" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>, "Compact quantum groups") v contains all irreducible representations of G and each irreducible representation enters v with the multiplicity equal to its dimension. The result is certainly known for classical compact groups. We give a short survey on the subject and provide a different proof of Woronowicz's result above. The proof is an adaptation of the corresponding result for classical compact groups and provides a concrete decomposition of the right regular representation in irreducible components.

Abstract:In this article, by studying the Bernstein degrees and Goldie rank polynomials, we establish a comparison between the irreducible representations of G = GL n （C） possessing the minimal Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and those induced from finite-dimensional representations of the maximal parabolic subgroup of G of type（n-1, 1）. We give the transition matrix between the two bases for the corresponding coherent families.

Abstract: Let $G$ be a real reductive group in Harish-Chandra's class. We derive some consequences of theory of coherent continuation representations to the counting of irreducible representations of $G$ with a given infinitesimal character and a given bound of the complex associated variety. When $G$ is a real classical group (including the real metaplectic group), we investigate the set of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$, in the sense of Arthur and Barbasch-Vogan. Here $\check{\mathcal O}$ is a nilpotent adjoint orbit in the Langlands dual of $G$ (or the metaplectic dual of $G$ when $G$ is a real metaplectic group). We give a precise count for the number of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{ \mathcal O}$. We also reduce the problem of constructing special unipotent representations attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$ to the case when $\check{\mathcal O}$ is analytically even (equivalently for a real classical group, has good parity in the sense of M{\oe}glin). The paper is the first in a series of two papers on the classification of special unipotent representations of real classical groups.

Abstract:In this paper, towards the unitary dual problem for classical groups, we propose a refinement of a conjecture of M. Tadić: A representation of good parity is unitary if and only if it is of Arthur type; and a conjectural description of the whole unitary dual. We verify them for representations of corank at most $3$ for symplectic or split odd special orthogonal groups, based on Tadić's classification. To this end, we develop new algorithms to determine whether a given irreducible representation is of Arthur type and give an inductive approach to classify the family of unitary representations that are of Arthur type. As applications, we carry out the explicit list on representations of Arthur type with corank at most $3$, and classify several new families of representations of Arthur type.

Abstract:In this paper we extend the results in [Ra] on the representation of the Hecke algebra, determined by the matrix coefficients of a projective, unitary representation, in the discrete series of representations of the ambient group, to a more general, vector valued case. This method is used to analyze the traces of the Hecke operators. We construct representations of the Hecke algebra of a group $G$, relative to an almost normal subgroup $\Gamma$, into the von Neumann algebra of the group $G$, tensor matrices. The representations we obtain are a lifting of the Hecke operators to this larger algebra. By summing up the coefficients of the terms in the representation one obtains the classical Hecke operators. These representations were used in the scalar case in [Ra], to find an alternative representation of the Hecke operators on Maass forms, and hence to reformulate the Ramanujan Petersson conjectures as a problem on the angle (see e.g. A. Connes's paper [Co] on the generalization of CKM matrix) between two subalgebras of the von Neumann algebra of the group $G$: the image of the representation of the Hecke algebra and the algebra of the almost normal subgroup.

Abstract:We find the generators of the fields of invariants of the coadjoint action of the unitriangular group on the basic varieties and basic cells. It is proved that the transcendental degree of the field of invariants on a basic cell coincides with the number of factors in the special factorization of the associated element of the Weyl group as a product of reflections.

Wavefront sets and descent method for finite unitary groups

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected reductive algebraic group defined over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. In the 1980s, Kawanaka introduced the generalized Gelfand-Graev representations (GGGRs for short) of the finite group $G^F$ in the case where $q$ is a power of a good prime for $G^F$. An essential feature of GGGRs is that they are very closely related to the (Kawanaka) wavefront sets of the irreducible representations $\pi$ of $G^F$. In \cite[Theorem 11.2]{L7}, Lusztig showed that if a nilpotent element $X\in G^F$ is ``large'' for an irreducible representation $\pi$, then the representation $\pi$ appears with ``small'' multiplicity in the GGGR associated to $X$. In this paper, we prove that for unitary groups, if $X$ is the wavefront of $\pi$, the multiplicity equals one, which generalizes the multiplicity one result of usual Gelfand-Graev representations. Moreover, we give an algorithm to decompose GGGRs for $\textrm{U}_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$ and calculate the $\textrm{U}_4(\mathbb{F}_q)$ case by this algorithm.

Abstract:We give a generalization of Gelfand's criterion on the commutativity of Hecke algebras for Gelfand pairs and multiplicity-free triples over algebraically closed fields of arbitrary characteristic. Using more lenient versions of projectivity and injectivity for modules, we prove a general multiplicity-freeness theorem for finitely-generated modules with commutative endomorphism rings. For representations of finite and profinite groups, Gelfand pairs over the complex numbers are therefore also Gelfand pairs over the algebraic closure of any finite field. Applications include the uniqueness of Whittaker models of modular Gelfand-Graev representations and the uniqueness of modular trilinear forms on irreducible representations of quaternion division algebras over local fields.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected reductive group defined over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of characteristic $p$, with Deligne--Lusztig dual $G^\ast$. We show that, over $\overline{\mathbb{Z}}[1/pM]$ where $M$ is the product of all bad primes for $G$, the endomorphism ring of a Gelfand--Graev representation of $G(\mathbb{F}_q)$ is isomorphic to the Grothendieck ring of the category of finite-dimensional $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_q$-representations of $G^\ast(\mathbb{F}_q)$.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a complex reductive algebraic group. In this paper, we give a geometric definition of a unipotent representation of $G$. Our definition generalizes the notion of a special unipotent representation, due to Barbasch-Vogan and Arthur. The representations we define arise from finite equivariant covers of nilpotent co-adjoint $G$-orbits. To each such cover $\tilde{\mathbb{O}}$, we attach a distinguished filtered algebra $\mathcal{A}_0$ equipped with a graded Poisson isomorphism $\mathrm{gr}(\mathcal{A}_0)\simeq \mathbb{C}[\tilde{\mathbb{O}}]$. The algebra $\mathcal{A}_0$ receives a distinguished homomorphism from the universal enveloping algebra $U(\mathfrak{g})$, and the kernel of this homomorphism is a completely prime primitive ideal in $U(\mathfrak{g})$ with associated variety $\overline{\mathbb{O}}$. A unipotent ideal is any ideal in $U(\mathfrak{g})$ which arises in this fashion. A unipotent representation is an irreducible Harish-Chandra bimodule which is annihilated (on both sides) by such an ideal. Our unipotent ideals and representations have all of the expected properties: the unipotent representations attached to $\tilde{\mathbb{O}}$ are parameterized by irreducible representations of a certain finite group (generalizing Lusztig's canonical quotient) and, when restricted to $K$, are of the form conjectured by Vogan. In classical types, all unipotent ideals are maximal, and all unipotent representations are unitary (we expect these properties to hold for arbitrary groups). Finally, all special unipotent representations are unipotent. To prove the last assertion, we introduce a refinement of Barbasch-Vogan-Lusztig-Spaltenstein duality, inspired by the symplectic duality of Braden, Licata, Proudfoot, and Webster.

Abstract:Let $\Gamma$ be a countable discrete group, and let $\pi\colon \Gamma\to {\rm{GL}}(H)$ be a representation of $\Gamma$ by invertible operators on a separable Hilbert space $H$. We show that the semidirect product group $G=H\rtimes_{\pi}\Gamma$ is SIN ($G$ admits a two-sided invariant metric compatible with its topology) and unitarily representable ($G$ embeds into the unitary group $\mathcal{U}(\ell^2(\mathbb N))$), if and only if $\pi$ is uniformly bounded, and that $\pi$ is unitarizable if and only if $G$ is of finite type: that is, $G$ embeds into the unitary group of a II$_1$-factor. Consequently, we show that a unitarily representable Polish SIN groups need not be of finite type, answering a question of Sorin Popa. The key point in our argument is an equivariant version of the Maurey--Nikishin factorization theorem for continuous maps from a Hilbert space to the space $L^0(X,m)$ of all measurable maps on a probability space.

Abstract:We construct projective (unitary) representations of Hecke groups from the vector spaces associated with the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev topological quantum field theory of higher genus surfaces. In particular, we generalize the modular data of Temperley-Lieb-Jones modular categories. We also study some properties of the representation. We show the image group of the representation is infinite at low levels in genus $2$ by explicit computations. We also show the representation is reducible with at least three irreducible summands when the level equals $4l+2$ for $l\geq 1$.
