Abstract:We prove that a Latt' es map admits an eventually simply-connected wandering continuum precisely when it is flexible. The simply-connected wandering continuum is a line segment in a bi-infinite geodesic under the flat metric.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a family of rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles and show that every rational map whose Julia set is a Cantor set of circles must be topologically conjugate to one map in this family on their corresponding Julia sets. In particular, we give the specific expressions of some rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, but they are not topologically conjugate to any McMullen maps on their Julia sets. Moreover, some non-hyperbolic rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles are also constructed.

Abstract: By using analytic method, we prove that there exist rational curves on compact Hermitian manifolds with positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. It confirms a question of S.-T. Yau. It is well-known that Mori proved in \cite{Mori79} that every compact complex manifold $N$ with $c_1(N)>0$ contains at least one rational curve. However, as a borderline example, we show that the standard Hopf surface $S^1\times S^3$ has a Hermitian metric with non-negative holomorphic bisectional curvature (in particular, $c_1(S^1\times S^3)\geq 0$), but it contains no rational curve.

Abstract:We study the geometry of simply connected wandering domains for entire functions and we prove that every bounded connected regular open set, whose closure has a connected complement, is a wandering domain of some entire function. In particular such domain can be realized as an escaping or an oscillating wandering domain. As a consequence we obtain that every Jordan curve is the boundary of a wandering Fatou component of some entire function.

Abstract:In 1980s, Thurston established a topological characterization theorem for postcritically finite rational maps. In this paper, a decomposition theorem for a class of postcritically infinite branched covering termed Herman map is developed. It's shown that every Herman map can be decomposed along a stable multicurve into finitely many Siegel maps and Thurston maps, such that the combinations and rational realizations of these resulting maps essentially dominate the original one. This result is motivated by a non-expanding version of McMullen's problem, and Thurston's theory on characterization of rational maps. It enables us to prove a Thurston-type theorem for rational maps with Herman rings.

Abstract:While the dynamics of transcendental entire functions in periodic Fatou components and in multiply connected wandering domains are well understood, the dynamics in simply connected wandering domains have so far eluded classification. We give a detailed classification of the dynamics in such wandering domains in terms of the hyperbolic distances between iterates and also in terms of the behaviour of orbits in relation to the boundaries of the wandering domains. In establishing these classifications, we obtain new results of wider interest concerning non-autonomous forward dynamical systems of holomorphic self maps of the unit disk. We also develop a new general technique for constructing examples of bounded, simply connected wandering domains with prescribed internal dynamics, and a criterion to ensure that the resulting boundaries are Jordan curves. Using this technique, based on approximation theory, we show that all of the nine possible types of simply connected wandering domain resulting from our classifications are indeed realizable.

Abstract:In this article, we study the topology and bifurcations of the moduli space M-3 of cubic Newton maps. It's a subspace of the moduli space of cubic rational maps, carrying the Riemann orbifold structure ((C)over-bar, (2, 3, infinity)).We prove two results: The boundary of the unique unbounded hyperbolic component is a Jordan arc and the boundaries of all other hyperbolic components are Jordan curves; The Head's angle map is surjective and monotone. The fibers of this map are characterized completely. The first result is a moduli space analogue of the first author's dynamical regularity theorem [37]. The second result confirms a conjecture of Tan Lei. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier Inc.
Classifying multiply connected wandering domains

Abstract:We study the internal dynamics of multiply connected wandering domains of meromorphic functions. We do so by considering the sequence of injectivity radii along the orbit of a base point, together with the hyperbolic distortions along the same orbit. The latter sequence had been previously used in this context; the former introduces geometric information about the shape of the wandering domains that interacts with the dynamic information given by the hyperbolic distortions. Using this idea, we complete the description of the internal dynamics of any wandering domain of a meromorphic function, and also unify previous approaches to the question. We conclude that the internal dynamics of a wandering domain, from the point of view of hyperbolic geometry, can be classified into six different types. Five of these types are realised by wandering domains of entire functions, while the sixth can only arise for meromorphic functions: a locally but not globally eventually isometric wandering domain. We construct a meromorphic function with such a domain, demonstrating that this new phenomenon does in fact occur. Our results show that, on a local level, the dynamics of multiply connected wandering domains of meromorphic functions is similar to those of entire functions, although new global phenomena can arise for non-entire functions.

Abstract:We show that every cross ratio preserving homeomorphism between boundaries of Hadamard manifolds extends to a map, called circumcenter extension, provided that the manifolds satisfy certain visibility conditions. We describe regions on which this map is Hölder-continuous. Furthermore, we show that this map is a rough isometry, whenever the manifolds admit cocompact group actions by isometries and we improve previously known quasi-isometry constants, provided by Biswas, in the case of 2-dimensional manifolds. Finally, we provide a sufficient condition for this map to be an isometry in the case of Hadamard surfaces.

A geometric Elliott invariant and noncommutative rigidity of mapping tori

Abstract:We prove a rigidity property for mapping tori associated to minimal topological dynamical systems using tools from noncommutative geometry. More precisely, we show that under mild geometric assumptions, an orientation-preserving leafwise homotopy equivalence of two mapping tori associated to $\mathbb{Z}^d$-actions on a compact space can be lifted to an isomorphism of their foliation $C^*$-algebras. This property is a noncommutative analogue of topological rigidity in the context of foliated spaces whose space of leaves is singular, where isomorphism type of the $C^*$-algebra replaces homeomorphism type. Our technique is to develop a geometric approach to the Elliott invariant that relies on topological and index-theoretic data from the mapping torus. We also discuss how our construction can be extended to slightly more general homotopy quotients arising from actions of discrete cocompact subgroups of simply connected solvable Lie groups, as well as how the theory can be applied to the magnetic gap-labelling problem for certain Cantor minimal systems.

Abstract:We study sequences f(k) : Sigma(k) -> R-n of conformally immersed, compact Riemann surfaces with fixed genus and Willmore energy W(f) <= Lambda. Assume that Sigma(k) converges to Sigma in moduli space, i.e., phi(k)* (Sigma(k)) -> Sigma as complex structures for diffeomorphisms phi(k). Then we construct a branched conformal immersion f : Sigma -> R-n and Mobius transformations sigma(k), such that for a subsequence sigma(k) circle f(k) circle sigma(k) -> f weakly in W-loc(2,2) away from finitely many points. For Lambda < 8 pi the map f is unbranched. If the Sigma(k) diverge in moduli space, then we show lim inf(k ->infinity) W(f(k)) >= min(8 pi, w(p)(n)). Our work generalizes results in [12] to arbitrary codimension.

Abstract:We define and study the regularity of distance maps on geodesically complete spaces with curvature bounded above. We prove that such a regular map is locally a Hurewicz fibration. This regularity can be regarded as a dual concept of Perelman's regularity in the geometry of Alexandrov spaces with curvature bounded below. As a corollary we obtain a sphere theorem for geodesically complete CAT(1) spaces.

Indecomposable continua for unbounded itineraries of exponential maps

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the exponential maps $E_\lambda: \mathbb{C} \longrightarrow \mathbb{C}$ defined by $E_\lambda(z) = \lambda e^z$, where $\lambda > \frac{1}{e}$. We prove that for itineraries of a certain form, the set of all points sharing the given itinerary, together with the point at infinity, is an indecomposable continuum in the Riemann sphere. These itineraries contain infinitely many blocks of zeros whose lengths increase, and they may be unbounded. We prove that in every such continuum, there exists exactly one point whose $\omega$-limit set contains the repelling fixed point of $E_\lambda$. For every other point, the $\omega$-limit set is equal either to the point at infinity, or to the forward orbit of $0$ together with the point at infinity. Thus, we generalize the results of R. Devaney and X. Jarque concerning indecomposable continua for bounded itineraries.

Abstract:We prove that for any given modulus of continuity there exist (uncountably many) uniformly expanding maps of the circle whose derivatives have as an optimal modulus of continuity and which preserve an invariant probability measure equivalent to Lebesgue whose density is -continuous, and also (uncountably many) uniformly expanding maps of the circle whose derivatives have as an optimal modulus of continuity which preserve Lebesgue measure. Moreover, we show that many of these maps, including those which preserve Lebesgue measure, have unbounded distortion.
