Abstract:We classify germs at the origin of real analytic Lorentz metrics on R^3 which are quasihomogeneous, in the sense that they are locally homogeneous on an open set containing the origin in its closure, but not locally homogeneous in the neighborhood of the origin.

Abstract:We present the classification of geodesic completeness on the pseudo-homothetic Lie group of dimension 3. In particular, we exhibit a family of complete metrics such that all geodesics have bounded velocity. As an application, we show that the set of complete metrics is not closed.

Abstract:Let (M,g) be a 3-dimensional compact connected real analytic Lorentz manifold and suppose that g is locally homogeneous on a non-empty open set in M (the pseudogroup of local isometries of g has an open orbit). Then we prove that g is locally homogeneous on M (the pseudogroup of local isometries is transitive on M).

Abstract:We show that homogeneous Einstein metrics on Euclidean spaces are Einstein solvmanifolds, using that they admit periodic, integrally minimal foliations by homogeneous hypersurfaces. For the geometric flow induced by the orbit-Einstein condition, we construct a Lyapunov function based on curvature estimates which come from real GIT.

Abstract:The purpose of the paper is to categorize quasi-Einstein structures on simply connected three-dimensional homogeneous almost -cosympletic manifolds, where the Reeb vector field is an eigenvector of the Ricci operator. This is achieved by assuming that the potential vector field of the quasi-Einstein structure is both pointwise collinear and transversal to the Reeb vector field at every point. The paper concludes by constructing an instance of a hyperbolic space, denoted as , which satisfies the quasi-Einstein structure.

Abstract:In this manuscript we consider non-degenerate surfaces $\Sigma^2$ immersed in a 3-dimensional homogeneous space $\mathbb{L}^3(\kappa,\tau)$ endowed with two different metrics, the one induced by the Riemannian metric of $\mathbb{E}^3(\kappa,\tau)$ and the non-degenerate metric inherited by the Lorentzian one of $\mathbb{L}^3(\kappa,\tau)$. Therefore, we have two different geometries on $\Sigma^2$ and we can compare them. In particular, we can consider the Gaussian curvature functions which respect to both metrics and study the geometry of the surfaces satisfying that both Gaussian curvature functions are opposite. We will call these surfaces anisocurved surfaces. In order to obtain our main results we also need to impose some extra assumptions regarding the extrinsic curvatures with respect to both metrics.

Abstract:We present an abstract approach to Lorentzian Gromov-Hausdorff distance and convergence, and an alternative approach to Lorentzian length spaces that does not use auxiliary ``positive signature'' metrics or other unobserved fields. We begin by defining a notion of (abstract) bounded Lorentzian-metric space which is sufficiently general to comprise compact causally convex subsets of globally hyperbolic spacetimes and causets. We define the Gromov-Hausdorff distance and show that two bounded Lorentzian-metric spaces at zero GH distance are indeed both isometric and homeomorphic. Then we show how to define from the Lorentzian distance, beside topology, the causal relation and the causal curves for these spaces, obtaining useful limit curve theorems. Next, we define Lorentzian (length) prelength spaces via suitable (maximal) chronal connectedness properties. These definitions are proved to be stable under GH limits. Furthermore, we define bounds on sectional curvature for our Lorentzian length spaces and prove that they are also stable under GH limits. We conclude with a (pre)compactness theorem.

Abstract:In previous papers, a fundamental affine method for studying homogeneous geodesics was developed. Using this method and elementary differential topology it was proved that any homogeneous affine manifold and in particular any homogeneous pseudo-Riemannian manifold admits a homogeneous geodesic through arbitrary point. In the present paper this affine method is refined and adapted to the pseudo-Riemannian case. Using this method and elementary topology it is proved that any homogeneous Lorentzian manifold of even dimension admits a light-like homogeneous geodesic. The method is illustrated in detail with an example of the Lie group of dimension 3 with an invariant metric, which does not admit any light-like homogeneous geodesic.

Bismut Ricci flat generalized metrics on compact homogeneous spaces (including a Corrigendum)

Abstract:A generalized metric on a manifold $M$, i.e., a pair $(g,H)$, where $g$ is a Riemannian metric and $H$ a closed $3$-form, is a fixed point of the generalized Ricci flow if and only if $(g,H)$ is Bismut Ricci flat: $H$ is $g$-harmonic and $ric(g)=\tfrac{1}{4} H_g^2$. On any homogeneous space $M=G/K$, where $G=G_1\times G_2$ is a compact semisimple Lie group with two simple factors, under some mild assumptions, we exhibit a Bismut Ricci flat $G$-invariant generalized metric, which is proved to be unique among a $4$-parameter space of metrics in many cases, including when $K$ is neither abelian nor semisimple. On the other hand, if $K$ is simple and the standard metric is Einstein on both $G_1/\pi_1(K)$ and $G_2/\pi_2(K)$, we give a one-parameter family of Bismut Ricci flat $G$-invariant generalized metrics on $G/K$ and show that it is most likely pairwise non-homothetic by computing the ratio of Ricci eigenvalues. This is proved to be the case for every space of the form $M=G\times G/\Delta K$ and for $M^{35}=SO(8)\times SO(7)/G_2$. A Corrigendum has been added in Appendix A.

Abstract:The geodesic orbit property is useful and interesting in itself, and it plays a key role in Riemannian geometry. It implies homogeneity and has important classes of Riemannian manifolds as special cases. Those classes include weakly symmetric Riemannian manifolds and naturally reductive Riemannian manifolds. The corresponding results for indefinite metric manifolds are much more delicate than in Riemannian signature, but in the last few years important corresponding structural results were proved for geodesic orbit Lorentz manifolds. Here we extend Riemannian and Lorentz results to trans-Lorentz nilmanifolds. Those are the geodesic orbit pseudo Riemannian manifolds of signature such that a nilpotent analytic subgroup of G is transitive on M . For that we suppose that there is a reductive decomposition and nilpotent. When the metric is nondegenerate on we show that is abelian or 2-step nilpotent. That is the same result as for geodesic orbit Riemannian and Lorentz nilmanifolds. When the metric is degenerate on we show that is a double extension of a geodesic orbit nilmanifold of either Riemannian or Lorentz signature.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of homogeneous Finsler metrics of vanishing S-curvature on a (4n + 3)-dimensional sphere. We find a second order ordinary differential equation that characterizes Einstein metrics with constant Ricci curvature 1 in this class. Using this equation we show that there are infinitely many homogeneous Einstein metrics on S4n+3 of constant Ricci curvature 1 and vanishing S-curvature. They contain the canonical metric on S4n+3 of constant sectional curvature 1 and the Einstein metric of non-constant sectional curvature given by Jensen in 1973.

Abstract:We construct a quantization of the moduli space of maximal globally hyperbolic Lorentzian metrics on with constant sectional curvature , for a punctured surface S . Although this moduli space is known to be symplectomorphic to the cotangent bundle of the Teichmüller space of S independently of the value of , we define geometrically natural classes of observables leading to -dependent quantizations. Using special coordinate systems, we first view as the set of points of a cluster -variety valued in the ring of generalized complex numbers . We then develop an -version of the quantum theory for cluster -varieties by establishing -versions of the quantum dilogarithm function. As a consequence, we obtain three families of projective unitary representations of the mapping class group of S . For these representations recover those of Fock and Goncharov, while for the representations are new.

Stability of standard Einstein metrics on homogeneous spaces of non-simple Lie groups

Abstract:The classification of compact homogeneous spaces of the form $M=G/K$, where $G$ is a non-simple Lie group, such that the standard metric is Einstein is still open. The only known examples are $4$ infinite families and $3$ isolated spaces found by Nikonorov and Rodionov in the 90s. In this paper, we prove that most of these standard Einstein metrics are unstable as critical points of the scalar curvature functional on the manifold of all unit volume $G$-invariant metrics on $M$, providing a lower bound for the coindex in the case of Ledger-Obata spaces. On the other hand, examples of stable (in particular, local maxima) invariant Einstein metrics on certain homogeneous spaces of non-simple Lie groups are also given.

Abstract:Let $M=G/K$ be a compact homogeneous space and assume that $G$ and $K$ have many simple factors. We show that the topological condition of having maximal third Betti number, in the sense that $b_3(M)=s-1$ if $G$ has $s$ simple factors, so called {\it aligned}, leads to a relatively manageable algebraic structure on the isotropy representation, paving the way to the computation of Ricci curvature formulas for a large class of $G$-invariant metrics. As an application, we study the existence and classification of Einstein metrics on aligned homogeneous spaces.

Abstract: In the 1980s, Eugenio Calabi introduced the concept of {\it extremal K\" ahler metrics} as critical points of the $L^2$-norm functional of scalar curvature in the space of K\" ahler metrics belonging to a fixed K\"ahler class of a compact complex manifold $X$. Calabi demonstrated that extremal K\" ahler metrics always degenerate into Einstein metrics on compact Riemann surfaces. We define a K\"ahler metric $g$ on a domain of ${\Bbb C}^n$ as a {\it local extremal K\"ahler metric} of dimension $n$ if it satisfies the Euler-Lagrange equation of this functional, i.e. holomorphic is the $(1,0)$-part of the gradient vector field of the scalar curvature of $g$, in the domain. Our main result establishes that the space of all germs of local extremal, non-Einstein K\"ahler metrics of dimension one comprises three components, each diffeomorphic to ${\Bbb R}^3$.
