Abstract:Algebra Colloquium, Volume 31, Issue 01, Page 63-82, March 2024. A Clifford deformation of a Koszul Frobenius algebra [math] is a finite dimensional [math]-graded algebra [math], which corresponds to a noncommutative quadric hypersurface [math] for some central regular element [math]. It turns out that the bounded derived category [math] is equivalent to the stable category of the maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over [math] provided that [math] is noetherian. As a consequence, [math] is a noncommutative isolated singularity if and only if the corresponding Clifford deformation [math] is a semisimple [math]-graded algebra. The preceding equivalence of triangulated categories also indicates that Clifford deformations of trivial extensions of a Koszul Frobenius algebra are related to Knörrer's periodicity theorem for quadric hypersurfaces. As an application, we recover Knörrer's periodicity theorem without using matrix factorizations.

Abstract:We construct a Clifford algebra bundle formed from the tangent bundle of the smooth loop space of a Riemannian manifold, which is a bundle of super von Neumann algebras on the loop space. We show that this bundle is in general non-trivial, more precisely that its triviality is obstructed by the transgressions of the second Stiefel-Whitney class and the first (fractional) Pontrjagin class of the manifold.

A Clifford algebraic Approach to Line Geometry

Abstract:In this paper we combine methods from projective geometry, Klein's model, and Clifford algebra. We develop a Clifford algebra whose Pin group is a double cover of the group of regular projective transformations. The Clifford algebra we use is constructed as homogeneous model for the five-dimensional real projective space $P^5(\mathbb{R})$ where Klein's quadric $M_2^4$ defines the quadratic form. We discuss all entities that can be represented naturally in this homogeneous Clifford algebra model. Projective automorphisms of Klein's quadric induce projective transformations of $P^3(\mathbb{R})$ and vice versa. Cayley-Klein geometries can be represented by Clifford algebras, where the group of Cayley-Klein isometries is given by the Pin group of the corresponding Clifford algebra. Therefore, we examine the versor group and study the correspondence between versors and regular projective transformations represented as $4\times 4$ matrices. Furthermore, we give methods to compute a versor corresponding to a given projective transformation.

Advances in Applied Clifford Algebras

Abstract:In this article we construct a cochain complex of a complex Clifford algebra with coefficients in itself in a combinatorial fashion and we call the corresponding cohomology by Clifford cohomology. We show that Clifford cohomology controls the deformation of a complex Clifford algebra and can classify them up to Morita equivalence. We also study Hochschild cohomology groups and formal deformations of the algebra of smooth sections of a complex Clifford algebra bundle over an even dimensional orientable Riemannian manifold M which admits a structure.

Abstract:Albuquerque and Majid have shown how to view Clifford algebras $\cl_{p,q}$ as twisted group rings whereas Chernov has observed that Clifford algebras can be viewed as images of group algebras of certain 2-groups modulo an ideal generated by a nontrivial central idempotent. Ablamowicz and Fauser have introduced a special transposition anti-automorphism of $\cl_{p,q}$, which they called a "transposition", which reduces to reversion in algebras $\cl_{p,0}$ and to conjugation in algebras $\cl_{0,q}$. The purpose of this paper is to bring these concepts together in an attempt to investigate how the algebraic properties of real Clifford algebras, including their periodicity of eight, are a direct consequence of the central product structure of Salingaros vee groups viewed as 2-groups.

Abstract:In 1878, Clifford introduced his “geometric” algebra in order to generalize the notion of complex numbers and quaternions. Today, Clifford algebra has found applications in multiple fields such as geometry, physics, and image processing. Notably, in quantum field theory, Dirac’s gamma matrices which are used to solve the Dirac equation, form a Clifford algebra. In this paper, we introduce Clifford algebras of finite dimensional vector fields. Both the real and complex Clifford algebras have surprising periodicity in their dimensions, which is a specific case of Bott periodicity. We will classify real and complex Clifford algebras using this periodicity. We also explore the representation theory of complex Clifford algebras, which turns out to be simple because the classification of complex Clifford algebras is simple. Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to use Clifford monoids to define weak Hopf quivers and to construct the corresponding class of weak Hopf algebras, i.e., the semilattice of graded weak Hopf algebras which were found to be useful in obtaining a regular R-matrix of a quantum double without a quasi-triangular structure. We define weak Hopf quivers and classify the semilattice of graded weak Hopf algebra structures over path coalgebras using weak Hopf quivers. This gives, precisely, a generalization of the classification of the graded weak Hopf algebra structures over path coalgebras using such quivers.

Abstract:Clifford algebras are important structures in Geometric Algebra and Quantum Mechanics. They have allowed a formalization of the primitive operators in Quantum Theory. The algebras are built over vector spaces with dimension a power of 2 with addition and multiplication being effectively computable relative to the computability of their own spaces. Abstract:We extend the notion of Clifford index to reduced curves with planar singularities by considering rank 1 torsion free sheaves. We investigate the behaviour of the Clifford index with respect to the combinatorial properties of the curve and we show that Green's conjecture holds for certain classes of curves given by the union of two irreducible components.

Abstract:By viewing Clifford algebras as algebras in some suitable symmetric Gr-categories, Albuquerque and Majid were able to give a new derivation of some well known results about Clifford algebras and to generalize them. Along the same line, Bulacu observed that Clifford algebras are weak Hopf algebras in the aforementioned categories and obtained other interesting properties. The aim of this paper is to study generalized Clifford algebras in a similar manner and extend the results of Albuquerque, Majid and Bulacu to the generalized setting. In particular, by taking full advantage of the gauge transformations in symmetric linear Gr-categories, we derive the decomposition theorem and provide categorical weak Hopf structures for generalized Clifford algebras in a conceptual and simpler manner.

Abstract:We introduce a theory of Clifford semialgebra systems, with application to representation theory via Hasse-Schmidt derivations on exterior semialgebras. Our main result, after the construction of the Clifford semialgebra, is a formula describing the exterior semialgebra as a representation of the Clifford semialgebra, given by the endomorphisms of the first wedge power.

Abstract:For each quadratic form Q in Quad(V) over a given vector space over a field R we have the Clifford algebra Cl(V,Q) defined as the quotient T(V)/I(Q) of the tensor algebra T(V) over the two-sided ideal generated by expressions of the form $x x-Q(x),x in V. In the present paper we consider the whole family Cl(V,Q) in a geometric way as a Z2-graded vector bundle over the base manifold Quad(V). Bilinear forms F from Bil(V) act on this bundle providing natural bijective linear mappings lambda_F between Clifford algebras for different Cl(V,Q). Alternate (or antisymmetric) forms induce vertical automorphisms, which we propose to consider as 'gauge transformations'. We develop here the formalism of N. Bourbaki, which generalizes the well known Chevalley's isomorphism Cl(V,Q)->End(Wedge(V)->Wedge(V). In particular we realize the Clifford algebra twisting gauge trnsformations induced by antisymmetric bilinear forms as exponentials of contractions with elements of $Wedge(V^* representing these forms. Throughtout all this paper we intentionally avoid using the so far accepted term "Clifford algebra of a bilinear form" (known otherwise as "Quantum Clifford algebra"), which we consider as possibly misleading, as it does not represent any well defined mathematical object. Instead we show explicitly how any given Clifford algebra Cl(Q) can be naturally realized as acting via endomorphisms of any other Clifford algebra Cl(Q') if Q'=Q+Q_F,and Q_F(x)=F(x,x). Possible physical meaning of such transformations are also mentioned.

On the Decomposition of Clifford Algebras of Arbitrary Bilinear Form

Abstract:Clifford algebras are naturally associated with quadratic forms. These algebras are Z_2-graded by construction. However, only a Z_n-gradation induced by a choice of a basis, or even better, by a Chevalley vector space isomorphism Cl(V) <-> \bigwedge V and an ordering, guarantees a multi-vector decomposition into scalars, vectors, tensors, and so on, mandatory in physics. We show that the Chevalley isomorphism theorem cannot be generalized to algebras if the Z_n-grading or other structures are added, e.g., a linear form. We work with pairs consisting of a Clifford algebra and a linear form or a Z_n-grading which we now call 'Clifford algebras of multi-vectors' or 'quantum Clifford algebras'. It turns out, that in this sense, all multi-vector Clifford algebras of the same quadratic but different bilinear forms are non-isomorphic. The usefulness of such algebras in quantum field theory and superconductivity was shown elsewhere. Allowing for arbitrary bilinear forms however spoils their diagonalizability which has a considerable effect on the tensor decomposition of the Clifford algebras governed by the periodicity theorems, including the Atiyah-Bott-Shapiro mod 8 periodicity. We consider real algebras Cl_{p,q} which can be decomposed in the symmetric case into a tensor product Cl_{p-1,q-1} \otimes Cl_{1,1}. The general case used in quantum field theory lacks this feature. Theories with non-symmetric bilinear forms are however needed in the analysis of multi-particle states in interacting theories. A connection to q-deformed structures through nontrivial vacuum states in quantum theories is outlined.

Cohomologies and deformations of differential algebra morphisms

Abstract:This paper studies the formal deformations of differential algebra morphisms. As a consequence, we develop a cohomology theory of differential algebra morphisms to interpret the lower degree cohomology groups as formal deformations. Then, we prove the Cohomology Comparison Theorem of differential algebra morphisms, i.e., the cohomology of a morphism of differential algebras is isomorphic to the cohomology of an auxiliary differential algebra. Finally, we can give a minimal model for morphism of differential algebras with weight=0.

Abstract:By Auslander's algebraic McKay correspondence, the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a simple singularity is equivalent to the $1$-cluster category of the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver (i.e. the orbit category of the derived category by the action of the Auslander-Reiten translation). In this paper we give a systematic method to construct a similar type of triangle equivalence between the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a Gorenstein isolated singularity $R$ and the generalized (higher) cluster category of a finite dimensional algebra $\Lambda$. The key role is played by a bimodule Calabi-Yau algebra, which is the higher Auslander algebra of $R$ as well as the higher preprojective algebra of an extension of $\Lambda$. As a byproduct, we give a triangle equivalence between the stable category of graded Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules and the derived category of $\Lambda$. Our main results apply in particular to a class of cyclic quotient singularities and to certain toric affine threefolds associated with dimer models.

Abstract:We present a discussion of the generalized Clifford group over non-cyclic finite abelian groups. These Clifford groups appear naturally in the theory of topological error correction and abelian anyon models. We demonstrate a generalized Gottesman-Knill theorem, stating that every Clifford circuit can be efficiently classically simulated. We additionally provide circuits for a universal quantum computing scheme based on local two-qudit Clifford gates and magic states.
