Abstract:We provide bar and cobar constructions as functors acting between various categories of curved operads and curved cooperads. Cobar and bar constructions are adjoint to each other. Given a twisting cochain between a curved augmented cooperad C with an extra grading and a curved operad O we construct a couple of adjoint functors between the category of curved O-modules and the category of curved C-comodules. The important feature is that the curved operad O is not necessarily augmented.

Abstract:We describe the category of homotopy coalgebras, concentrating on properties of relatively cofree homotopy coalgebras, morphisms and coderivations from an ordinary coalgebra to a relatively cofree homotopy coalgebra, morphisms and coderivations between coalgebras of latter type. Cobar- and bar-constructions between counit-complemented curved coalgebras, unit-complemented curved algebras and curved homotopy coalgebras are described. Using twisting cochains an adjunction between cobar- and bar-constructions is derived under additional assumptions.

Abstract:Curved algebras are a generalization of differential graded algebras which have found numerous applications recently. The goal of this foundational article is to introduce the notion of a curved operad, and to develop the operadic calculus at this new level. The algebraic side of the curved operadic calculus provides us with universal constructions: using a new notion of curved operadic bimodules, we construct curved universal enveloping algebras. Since there is no notion of quasi-isomorphism in the curved context, we develop the homotopy theory of curved operads using new methods. This approach leads us to introduce the new notion of a curved absolute operad, which is the notion Koszul dual to counital cooperads non-necessarily conilpotent, and we construct a complete Bar-Cobar adjunction between them. We endow curved absolute operads with a suitable model category structure. We establish a duality square of duality functors which intertwines this complete Bar-Cobar construction with the Bar-Cobar adjunction between unital operads and conilpotent curved cooperads. This allows us to compute minimal cofibrant resolutions for various curved absolute operads. Using the complete Bar construction, we show a general Homotopy Transfer Theorem for curved algebras. Along the way, we construct the non-necessarily conilpotent cofree cooperad.

Abstract:In this paper we establish Koszul duality between dg categories and a class of curved coalgebras, generalizing the corresponding result for dg algebras and conilpotent curved coalgebras. We show that the normalized chain complex functor transforms the Quillen equivalence between quasicategories and simplicial categories into this Koszul duality. This allows us to give a conceptual interpretation of the dg nerve of a dg category and its adjoint. As an application, we prove that the category of representations of a quasicategory is equivalent to the coderived category of comodules over its chain coalgebra. A corollary of this is a characterization of the category of constructible dg sheaves on a stratified space as the coderived category of a certain dg coalgebra.

André-Quillen cohomology in the context of curved algebras

Abstract:The André-Quillen cohomology of an algebra with coefficients in a module is defined by deriving a functor based on Kähler differential forms. It can be computed using a cofibrant resolution of the algebra in a model category structure where weak equivalences are quasi-isomorphisms. This construction works for algebras over an operad, providing a cohomology theory tailored for each type of algebra. For curved algebras however, the notion of quasi-isomorphism is meaningless. The occurrence and importance of curved structures in various research topics (symplectic topology, deformation theory, derived geometry, mathematical physics) motivate the development of their homotopy theory and André-Quillen cohomology theory. To get a homotopical context with an appropriate notion of weak equivalence, we consider filtered complete modules with a predifferential inducing a differential on the associated graded. Curved algebras in such modules are algebras over a curved operad. In this article, we consider curved operads which are not necessarily augmented. Bar and cobar constructions adapted to these curved operads are developed, as well as Koszul duality theory. Consequently, we obtain homotopy versions of our curved algebras and make it explicit for interesting cases. Two main examples are the curved operads encoding curved unital associative algebras and curved complex Lie algebras. In particular, homotopy curved unital associative algebras describe the structure of Floer complexes of lagrangian submanifolds and Fukaya categories in symplectic topology. Bar and cobar constructions for curved algebras are also developed, and we obtain resolutions from which we compute their André-Quillen cohomology with module coefficients. Our computations in the case of curved complex Lie algebras reveal an interesting link between their André-Quillen cohomology and derived complex analytic geometry.

Global Koszul duality

Abstract:We construct a monoidal model structure on the category of all curved coalgebras and show that it is Quillen equivalent, via the extended bar-cobar adjunction, to another model structure we construct on the category of curved algebras. When the coalgebras under consideration are conilpotent and the algebras are dg, i.e. uncurved, this corresponds to the ordinary dg Koszul duality of Positselski and Keller-Lefèvre. As an application we construct global noncommutative moduli spaces for flat connections on vector bundles, holomorphic structures on almost complex vector bundles, dg modules over a dg algebra, objects in a dg category, and others.

Abstract:We study module like objects over categorical quotients of algebras by the action of coalgebras with several objects. These take the form of ``entwined comodules'' and ``entwined contramodules'' over a triple $(\mathscr C,A,\psi)$, where $A$ is an algebra, $\mathscr C$ is a coalgebra with several objects and $\psi$ is a collection of maps that ``entwines'' $\mathscr C$ with $A$. Our objective is to prove Frobenius, separability and Maschke type theorems for functors between categories of entwined comodules and entwined contramodules.

The covariant functoriality of graph algebras

Abstract:In the standard category of directed graphs, graph morphisms map edges to edges. By allowing graph morphisms to map edges to finite paths (path homomorphisms of graphs), we obtain an ambient category in which we determine subcategories enjoying covariant functors to categories of algebras given by constructions of path algebras, Cohn path algebras, and Leavitt path algebras, respectively. Thus we obtain new tools to unravel homomorphisms between Leavitt path algebras and graph C*-algebras. In particular, a graph-algebraic presentation of the inclusion of the C*-algebra of a quantum real projective plane into the Toeplitz algebra allows us to determine a quantum CW-complex structure of the former. It comes as a mixed-pullback theorem where two $*$-homomorphisms are covariantly induced from path homomorphisms of graphs and the remaining two are contravariantly induced by admissible inclusions of graphs. As a main result and an application of new covariant-induction tools, we prove such a mixed-pullback theorem for arbitrary graphs whose all vertex-simple loops have exits, which substantially enlarges the scope of examples coming from noncommutative topology.

Abstract:Let $ V$ be a braided tensor category and $ C$ a tensor category equipped with a braided tensor functor $G:V\to Z(C)$. For any exact indecomposable $C$-module category $M$, we explicitly construct a right adjoint of the action functor $\rho:Z^V(C)\to C^*_{M}$ afforded by $M$. Here $Z^V(C)$ is the Müger's centralizer of the subcategory $G(V)$ inside the center $Z^V(C)$, also known as the relative center. The construction is parallel to the one presented by K. Shimizu, but using instead the relative coend end. This adjunction turns out to be monadic, thus inducing Hopf monads $T_{V}: C\to C$, such that there is a monoidal equivalence of categories $ C_{T_{V}}\simeq Z^V(C).$ If $\bar{\rho}: C^*_{ M}\to Z^V(C)$ is the right adjoint of $\rho,$ then $\bar{\rho}(Id_{M})$ is the braided commutative algebra constructed in [R. Laugwitz and C. Walton. Braided commutative algebras over quantized enveloping algebras, Transform. Groups 26(3) (2021), 957--993]. As a consequence of our construction of these algebras, in terms of the right adjoint to $\rho$, we can provide a recipe to compute them when $C=Rep(H\# T)$ is the category of finite-dimensional representations of a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra $H\# T$ obtained by bosonization, and choosing an arbitrary $Rep(H\# T)$-module category $M$. We show an explicit example in the case of Taft algebras.

Duality for coalgebras for Vietoris and monadicity

Abstract:We prove that the opposite of the category of coalgebras for the Vietoris endofunctor on the category of compact Hausdorff spaces is monadic over Set. We deliver an analogous result for the upper, lower and convex Vietoris endofunctors acting on the category of stably compact spaces. We provide axiomatizations of the associated (infinitary) varieties. This can be seen as a version of Jonsson-Tarski duality for modal algebras beyond the 0-dimensional setting.

Abstract:In this note we continue our development of tannakizations of symmetric monoidal infinity-categories, begun in our previous paper. The issue treated in this paper is the calculation of tannakizations of examples of symmetric monoidal stable infinity-categories with fiber functors. We consider the case of symmetric monoidal infinity-categories of perfect complexes on perfect derived stacks. The first main result especially says that our tannakization includes the bar construction for an augmented commutative ring spectrum and its equivariant version as a special case. We apply it to the study of the tannakization of the stable infinity-category of mixed Tate motives over a perfect field. We prove that its tannakization can be obtained from the torus-equivariant bar construction of a commutative differential graded algebra equipped with torus-action. Moreover, under Beilinson-Soule vanishing conjecture, we prove that the underlying group scheme of the tannakization is the conventional motivic Galois group for mixed Tate motives. The case of Artin motives is also included.

Deligne tensor products of categories of modules for vertex operator algebras

Abstract:We show that if $\mathcal{U}$ and $\mathcal{V}$ are locally finite abelian categories of modules for vertex operator algebras $U$ and $V$, respectively, then the Deligne tensor product of $\mathcal{U}$ and $\mathcal{V}$ can be realized as a certain category $\mathcal{D}(\mathcal{U},\mathcal{V})$ of modules for the tensor product vertex operator algebra $U\otimes V$. We also show that if $\mathcal{U}$ and $\mathcal{V}$ admit the braided tensor category structure of Huang-Lepowsky-Zhang, then $\mathcal{D}(\mathcal{U},\mathcal{V})$ does as well under mild additional conditions, and that this braided tensor structure is equivalent to the natural braided tensor structure on a Deligne tensor product category. These results hold in particular when $\mathcal{U}$ and $\mathcal{V}$ are the categories of $C_1$-cofinite $U$- and $V$-modules, if these categories are closed under contragredients, in which case we show that $\mathcal{D}(\mathcal{U},\mathcal{V})$ is the category of $C_1$-cofinite $U\otimes V$-modules. If $U$ and $V$ are $\mathbb{N}$-graded and $C_2$-cofinite, then we may take $\mathcal{U}$ and $\mathcal{V}$ to be the categories of all grading-restricted generalized $U$- and $V$-modules, respectively. Thus as an application, if the tensor categories of all modules for two $C_2$-cofinite vertex operator algebras are rigid, then so is the tensor category of all modules for the tensor product vertex operator algebra. We use this to prove that the representation categories of the even subalgebras of the symplectic fermion vertex operator superalgebras are non-semisimple modular tensor categories.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the categories of braided objects, algebras and bialgebras in a given monoidal category, some pairs of adjoint functors between them and their relations. In particular, we construct a braided primitive functor and its left adjoint, the braided tensor bialgebra functor, from the category of braided objects to the one of braided bialgebras. The latter is obtained by a specific elaborated construction introducing a braided tensor algebra functor as a left adjoint of the forgetful functor from the category of braided algebras to the one of braided objects. The behavior of these functors in the case when the base category is braided is also considered.

Abstract:We compute the Borel equivariant cohomology ring of the left $K$-action on a homogeneous space $G/H$, where $G$ is a connected Lie group, $H$ and $K$ are closed, connected subgroups and $2$ and the torsion primes of the Lie groups are units of the coefficient ring. As a special case, this gives the singular cohomology rings of biquotients $H \backslash G / K$. This depends on a version of the Eilenberg-Moore theorem developed in the appendix, where a novel multiplicative structure on the two-sided bar construction $\mathbf{B}(A',A,A")$ is defined, valid when $A' \leftarrow A \to A"$ is a pair of maps of homotopy Gerstenhaber algebras.

Cochain complexes over a functor

Abstract:In this paper we propose unifying the categories of cochain complexes $\text{Ch}(\mathcal{C})$ and modules $\widehat{A}\text{-mod}$ over a repetitive algebra $\widehat{A}$. Motivated by their striking similarities and importance, we introduce a novel category encompassing both. Our analysis explores key properties of this unified category, highlighting its parallels and divergences from the original structures. We study whether it preserves crucial aspects like limits, colimits, products, coproducts, and abelianity. Besides, we establish a family of projective and injective indecomposable objects within this framework. Moving beyond theoretical foundations, we examine the influence and interaction over these novel categories of the category of endofunctors and its monoidal structure. Finally, we explore the implications of our constructions over representation theory of algebras and algebraic geometry.

Abstract:We endow twisted tensor products with a natural notion of counit and comultiplication, and we provide sufficient and necessary conditions making the twisted tensor product a counital coassociative coalgebra. We then characterize when the twisted tensor product of bialgebras is a bialgebra, and when the twisted tensor product of Frobenius algebras is a Frobenius algebra. Our methods are purely diagrammatic, so these results hold for (braided) monoidal categories. As an application, we recover that some quantum complete intersections are Frobenius algebras, and we construct families of noncommutative symmetric Frobenius algebras. Along the way, we also characterize when twisted tensor products of separable algebras are separable, and we prove that twisted tensor products of special Frobenius algebras are special Frobenius.

Intermediate Subalgebras of Cartan embeddings in rings and C*-algebras

Abstract:Let $D \subseteq A$ be a quasi-Cartan pair of algebras. Then there exists a unique discrete groupoid twist $\Sigma \to G$ whose twisted Steinberg algebra is isomorphic to $A$ in a way that preserves $D$. In this paper, we show there is a lattice isomorphism between wide open subgroupoids of $G$ and subalgebras $C$ such that $D\subseteq C\subseteq A$ and $D \subseteq C$ is a quasi-Cartan pair. We also characterise which algebraic diagonal/algebraic Cartan/quasi-Cartan pairs have the property that every subalgebra $C$ with $D\subseteq C\subseteq A$ has $D \subseteq C$ a diagonal/Cartan/quasi-Cartan pair. In the diagonal case, when the coefficient ring is a field, it is all of them. Beyond that, only pairs that are close to being diagonal have this property. We then apply our techniques to C*-algebraic inclusions and give a complete characterization of which Cartan pairs $D \subseteq A$ have the property that every C*-subalgebra $C$ with $D\subseteq C\subseteq A$ has $D \subseteq C$ a Cartan pair.
