Abstract:An artin algebra is said to be PCM-free if every finitely generated Gorenstein projective module with a projective submodule is projective. In this paper, we show that artin local algebras with radical cubic zero are PCM-free.

Abstract:We discuss certain homological properties of graded algebras whose trivial modules admit nonpure resolutions. Such algebras include both of Artin-Schelter regular algebras of types (12221) and (13431). Under certain conditions, a module with nonpure resolution is decomposed to form an extension by two modules with pure resolutions.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, using pseudo path algebras, we generalize Gabriel's Theorem on elementary algebras to left Artinian algebras over a field k when the quotient algebra can be lifted by a radical. Our particular interest is when the dimension of the quotient algebra determined by the nth Hochschild cohomology is less than 2 (for example, when k is finite or char k = 0). Using generalized path algebras, a generalization of Gabriel's Theorem is given for finite dimensional algebras with 2-nilpotent radicals which is splitting over its radical. As a tool, the so-called pseudo path algebra is introduced as a new generalization of path algebras, whose quotient by ken is a generalized path algebra (see Fact 2.6). The main result is that (i) for a left Artinian k–algebra A and r = r(A) the radical of A. if the quotient algebra A/r can be lifted then A ≅ PSEk (Δ, , ρ) with Js ⊂ (ρ) ⊂ J for some s (Theorem 3.2); (ii) If A is a finite dimensional k–algebra with 2-nilpotent radical and the quotient by radical can be lifted, then A ≅ k(Δ, , ρ) with 2 ⊂ (ρ) ⊂ 2 + ∩ ker (Theorem 4.2), where Δ is the quiver of A and ρ is a set of relations. For all the cases we discuss in this paper, we prove the uniqueness of such quivers Δ and the generalized path algebras/pseudo path algebras satisfying the isomorphisms when the ideals generated by the relations are admissible (see Theorem 3.5 and 4.4).

Abstract:An Artin algebra A is said to be CM-finite if there are only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable finitely generated Gorenstein-projective A-modules. Inspired by Auslander's idea on representation dimension, we prove that for 2⩽n<∞, A is a CM-finite n-Gorenstein algebra if and only if there is a resolving Gorenstein-projective A-module E such that gl.dimEndA(E)op⩽n.

Abstract:First, we prove an algebraization result for rig-smooth algebras over a general noetherian ring; this positively answers the question raised in [Sta24, Tag 0GAX]. Then we prove a general partial algebraization result in non-archimedean geometry. The result says that we can always algebraize a geometrically reduced affinoid rigid-analytic space in "one direction" in an appropriate sense. As an application of this result, we show the remaining cases of the Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing for affinoid algebras, which were previously conjectured in [BM21, §7]. This allows us to deduce a stronger version of the rigid-analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing Conjecture (see [Han20, Conj. 1.2]) over a field of characteristic 0. Using a completely different set of ideas, we also obtain a weaker version of this conjecture over a field of characteristic p>0.

Abstract:In this article, we introduce a class of generalized matrix algebras, in which each algebra is called a normally upper triangular gm algebra, and characterise Gorenstein projective modules over this class of algebras. Moreover, a sufficient condition of strongly Gorenstein projective modules over normally upper triangular gm algebras is given. The importance of normally upper triangular gm algebras for us is that it includes the so-called path algebras of quivers over algebras and generalized path algebras. Due to this, we characterize Gorenstein projective modules and strongly Gorenstein projective modules over path algebras of quivers over algebras and generalized path algebras as applications of the main results on normally upper triangular gm algebras. At last, we give an example to show how all indecomposable Gorenstein projective modules over a given algebra are constructed by the result on generalized path algebras.

Abstract:Following the well-established terminology in commutative algebra, any (not necessarily commutative) finite-dimensional local algebra.. with radical.. will be said to be short provided J(3) = 0. As in the commutative case, we show: If a short local algebra.. has an indecomposable non-projective Gorenstein-projective module M, then either A is self-injective (so that all modules are Gorenstein-projective) and then, of course, vertical bar J(2)vertical bar <= 1, or else vertical bar J(2)vertical bar = vertical bar J/J(2)vertical bar - 1 and vertical bar JM vertical bar = vertical bar J(2)vertical bar vertical bar M/JM vertical bar. More generally, we focus the attention to semi-Gorensteinprojective and 8-torsionfree modules, even to Omega-paths of length 2, 3 and 4. In particular, we show that the existence of a non-projective reflexive module implies that vertical bar J(2)vertical bar < vertical bar J/J(2)vertical bar and further restrictions. In addition, we consider exact complexes of projective modules with a non-projective image. Again, as in the commutative case, we see that if such a complex exists, then.. is self-injective or satisfies the condition vertical bar J(2)vertical bar = vertical bar J/J(2)vertical bar - 1. Also, we show that any non-projective semi-Gorensteinprojective module M satisfies Ext(1)(M, M) not equal 0. In this way, we prove the Auslander-Reiten conjecture (one of the classical homological conjectures) for arbitrary short local algebras. Many arguments used in the commutative case actually work in general, but there are interesting differences and some of our results may be new also in the commutative case.

Abstract:During the last several years, Artin, Jorgensen, Stafford, Yekutieli, and others have generalized many homological results from the commutative case to the noncommutative connected graded case [AZ, SZ1, Jo1, Jo2, Ye]. In this paper we generalize some of those to the noncommutative local case. Our main interest is on noetherian local PI (polynomial identity) algebras, though some results hold in a more general setting. Throughout A is an algebra over a base field k, I is its Jacobson radical, and A0 = A/I. If A0 is artinian, A is called semilocal. If A0 is a simple artinian algebra (respectively, a division algebra), then A is called local (respectively, scalar local). Unless otherwise stated we are working with left modules and sometimes we use the term Aop-module for a right A-module where Aop is the opposite ring of A. A finite A-module means finitely generated over A. We use noetherian (respectively, artinian) for two-sided noetherian (respectively, two-sided artinian).

Abstract:For a $3$-dimensional quantum polynomial algebra $A=\mathcal{A}(E,\sigma)$, Artin-Tate-Van den Bergh showed that $A$ is finite over its center if and only if $|\sigma|<\infty$. Moreover, Artin showed that if $A$ is finite over its center and $E\neq \mathbb{P}^2$, then $A$ has a fat point module, which plays an important role in noncommutative algebraic geometry, however the converse is not true in general. In this paper, we will show that, if $E\neq \mathbb{P}^2$, then $A$ has a fat point module if and only if the quantum projective plane $\mathsf{Proj}_{\rm nc} A$ is finite over its center in the sense of this paper if and only if $|\nu^*\sigma^3|<\infty$ where $\nu$ is the Nakayama automorphism of $A$.In particular, we will show that if the second Hessian of $E$ is zero, then $A$ has no fat point module.

Artinian Gorenstein algebras of embedding dimension four and socle degree three over an arbitrary field

Abstract:Let k be an arbitrary field, A be a standard graded Artinian Gorenstein k-algebra of embedding dimension four and socle degree three, and pi from P to A be a surjective graded homomorphism from a polynomial ring with four variables over k onto A. We give the minimal generators of the kernel of pi and the minimal homogeneous resolution of A by free P-modules. We give formulas for the entries in the matrices in the resolution in terms of the coefficients of the Macaulay inverse system for A. We have implemented these formulas in Macaulay2 scripts. The kernel of pi has either 6, 7, or 9 minimal generators. The number of minimal generators and the precise form of the minimal resolution are determined by the rank of a 3 by 3 symmetric matrix of constants that we call SM. If the kernel of pi requires more than six generators, then we prove that the kernel of pi is the sum of two linked perfect ideals of grade three. If the the kernel of pi is six-generated, then we prove that A is a hypersurface section of a codimension three Gorenstein algebra. Our approach is based on the structure of Gorenstein-linear resolutions and the theorem that, except for exactly one exception, A has the weak Lefschetz property.

Deformations of commutative Artinian algebras

Abstract:The paper is devoted to the study of deformations of Artinian algebras and zero-dimensional germs of varieties. In particular, an approach is developed to solving the open problem about the nonexistence of rigid Artinian algebras; it is based essentially on the use of the canonical duality in the cotangent complex. Thus, it is shown that there are no rigid Gorenstein Artinian algebras and rigid almost complete intersections. The proof of the latter statement is based on the properties of the torsion functors. More precisely, the tensor product of the conormal and canonical modules of the corresponding Artinian algebra is calculated. In this case, the homology and cohomology groups of higher degrees are also found. Among other things, some estimates are obtained for the dimension of the spaces of the first lower and upper cotangent functors of Artinian algebras, and the relationship between them is described. In conclusion, several examples of nonsmoothable Artinian noncomplete intersections are examined, and some unusual properties of such algebras are discussed.

In the Noetherian case a similar result was proved by Artin and Zhang.

Abstract:We prove that arboreal Galois extensions of number fields are never abelian for post-critically finite rational maps and non-preperiodic base points. For polynomials, this establishes a new class of known cases of a conjecture of Andrews-Petsche. Together with a result of Ferraguti-Ostafe-Zannier, this result implies that counterexamples to the conjecture, if they exist, are sparse. We also prove an auxiliary result on places of periodic reduction for rational maps, which may be of independent interest.

Free resolutions and Lefschetz properties of some Artin Gorenstein rings of codimension four

Abstract:In 1978, Stanley constructed an example of an Artinian Gorenstein (AG) ring $A$ with non-unimodal $H$-vector $(1,13,12,13,1)$. Migliore-Zanello later showed that for regularity $r=4$, Stanley's example has the smallest possible codimension $c$ for an AG ring with non-unimodal $H$-vector. The weak Lefschetz property (WLP) has been much studied for AG rings; it is easy to show that an AG ring with non-unimodal $H$-vector fails to have WLP. In codimension $c=3$ it is conjectured that all AG rings have WLP. For $c=4$, Gondim showed that WLP always holds for $r \le 4$ and gives a family where WLP fails for any $r \ge 7$, building on an earlier example of Ikeda of failure of WLP for $r=5$. In this note we study the minimal free resolution of $A$ and relation to Lefschetz properties (both weak and strong) and Jordan type for $c=4$ and $r \le 6$.

Unobstructedness and dimension of families of Gorenstein algebras

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to develop tools to study maximal families of Gorenstein quotients A of a polynomial ring R. We prove a very general Theorem on deformations of the homogeneous coordinate ring of a scheme Proj(A) which is defined as the degeneracy locus of a regular section of the dual of some sheaf M^~ of rank r supported on say an arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay subscheme Proj(B) of Proj(R). Under certain conditions (notably; M maximally Cohen-Macaulay and the top exterior power of M^~ a twist of the canonical sheaf), then A is Gorenstein, and under additional assumptions, we show the unobstructedness of A and we give an explicit formula the dimension of any maximal family of Gorenstein quotients of R with fixed Hilbert function obtained by a regular section as above. The theorem also applies to Artinian quotients A. The case where M itself is a twist of the canonical module (r=1) was studied in a previous paper, while this paper concentrates on other low rank cases, notably r=2 and 3. In these cases regular sections of the first Koszul homology module and of normal sheaves to licci schemes (of say codimension 2) lead to Gorenstein quotients (of e.g. codimension 4) whose parameter spaces we examine. Our main applications are for Gorenstein quotients of codimension 4 of R since our assumptions are almost always satisfied in this case. Special attention are paid to arithmetically Gorenstein curves in P^5.

Ozone groups of Artin--Schelter regular algebras satisfying a polynomial identity

Abstract:We study the ozone group of noetherian Artin--Schelter regular algebras satisfying a polynomial identity (or PI for short). The ozone group was shown in previous work by the authors to be an important invariant in the study of PI skew polynomial rings and their centers. In this paper, we show that skew polynomial rings are in fact characterized as those algebras with maximal rank ozone groups. We also classify those with trivial ozone groups, which must necessarily be Calabi--Yau. This class includes most three-dimensional PI Sklyanin algebras. Further examples and applications are given, including applications to the Zariski Cancellation Problem.

Abstract:A very first step to develop non-commutative algebraic geometry is the arithmetic of polynomials in non-commuting variables over a commutative field, that is, the study of elements in free associative algebras. This investigation is presented as a natural extension of the classical theory in one variable by using Leavitt algebras, which are localizations of free algebras with respect to the Gabriel topology defined by an ideal of codimension 1. In particular to any polynomial in n non-commuting variables with non-zero constant term we associate a finite-dimensional module over the free algebra of rank n, which turns out to be simple if and only if the polynomial is irreducible. This approach leads to new insights in the study of the factorization of polynomials into irreducible ones and other related topics, such as an algorithm to divide polynomials or to compute the greatest common divisor between them, or a description of similar polynomials. The case of polynomials with zero constant term reduces to an open question whether the intersection of nonunital subalgebras of codimension 1 in a free associative algebra is trivial, that is, 0.
