Abstract:It is shown that by a simple extension of the fermion sector of flipped SU(5) models and other flipped models proton decay coming from dimension-6 operators can be suppressed by fermion mixing angles by an arbitrary amount in a natural way.

Abstract:We analyze nucleon decay modes in a no-scale supersymmetric flipped SU(5) GUT model, and contrast them with the predictions for proton decays via dimension-6 operators in a standard unflipped supersymmetric SU(5) GUT model. We find that these GUT models make very different predictions for the ratios $\Gamma(p \to \pi^0 \mu^+)/\Gamma(p \to \pi^0 e^+)$, $\Gamma(p \to \pi^+ \bar{\nu})/\Gamma(p \to \pi^0 e^+)$, $\Gamma(p \to K^0 e^+)/\Gamma(p \to \pi^0 e^+)$ and $\Gamma(p \to K^0 \mu^+)/\Gamma(p \to \pi^0 \mu^+)$, and that predictions for the ratios $\Gamma(p \to \pi^0 \mu^+)/\Gamma(p \to \pi^0 e^+)$ and $\Gamma(p \to \pi^+ \bar{\nu})/\Gamma(p \to \pi^0 e^+)$ also differ in variants of the flipped SU(5) model with normal- or inverse-ordered light neutrino masses. Upcoming large neutrino experiments may have interesting opportunities to explore both GUT and flavour physics in proton and neutron decays.

Abstract:We study supersymmetric (SUSY) flipped SU(5) × U(1) unification, focussing on its predictions for proton decay, fermion masses and gravitational waves. We performed a two-loop renormalisation group analysis and showed that the SUSY flipped SU(5) model predicts a high GUT scale M GUT > 10 16 GeV. We also investigated the restrictions on the M B − L scale which is associated with the U(1) χ breaking scale. We found that the M B − L scale can vary in a broad region with negligible or little effect on the value of M GUT . Proton decay in this model is induced by dimension-6 operators only. The dimension-5 operator induced by SUSY contribution is suppressed due to the missing partner mechanism. We found that the partial decay width p → π 0 e + is high suppressed, being at least one order of magnitude lower than the future Hyper-K sensitivity. We also studied fermion (including neutrino) masses and mixings which can also influence proton decay. We presented two scenarios of flavour textures to check the consistency of the results with fermion masses and mixing. The B − L gauge breaking leads to the generation of cosmic strings. The B − L scale here is not constrained by gauge coupling unification. If this scale is very close that of GUT breaking, strings can be unstable due to the decay to monopole-antimonople pair. Such metastable strings can be used to explain the NANOGrav signals of stochastic gravitational wave background, which may be interpreted here as resulting from the decay of metastable cosmic strings.

Abstract:We consider proton decay and $$g_\mu - 2$$ g μ - 2 in flipped SU(5) GUT models. We first study scenarios in which the soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters are constrained to be universal at some high scale $$M_{in}$$ M in above the standard GUT scale where the QCD and electroweak SU(2) couplings unify. In this case the proton lifetime is typically $$ > rsim 10^{36}$$ ≳ 10 36 years, too long to be detected in the foreseeable future, and the supersymmetric contribution to $$g_\mu - 2$$ g μ - 2 is too small to contribute significantly to resolving the discrepancy between the experimental measurement and data-driven calculations within the Standard Model. However, we identify a region of the constrained flipped SU(5) parameter space with large couplings between the 10- and 5-dimensional GUT Higgs representations where $$p \rightarrow e^+ \pi ^0$$ p → e + π 0 decay may be detectable in the Hyper-Kamiokande experiment now under construction, though the contribution to $$g_\mu -2$$ g μ - 2 is still small. A substantial contribution to $$g_\mu - 2$$ g μ - 2 is possible, however, if the universality constraints on the soft supersymmetry-breaking masses are relaxed. We find a ‘quadrifecta’ region where observable proton decay co-exists with a (partial) supersymmetric resolution of the $$g_\mu - 2$$ g μ - 2 discrepancy and acceptable values of $$m_h$$ m h and the relic LSP density.

Abstract:The large freedom in the SM fermionic mass matrices allows for large LH and LH quark rotations. This is a natural possibility in view of the observed large leptonic mixing. Proton decay and especially its gauge mediated decay is sensitive also to those mixing angles which are non-relevant in the SM. A model with realistic mass matrices and large rotations is presented.. It is shown that the large leptonic mixing leads to enhancement of the proton decay branching ratios involving muons.

Abstract:We propose to partially unify the sequential SU(3)c×SU(3)L×U(1)X model (with β=1/3 ) into the flipped SU(6) model with the gauge group SU(6)×U(1)K . Gauge anomaly cancellation can easily be satisfied. We discuss the relevant Higgs sector, the low energy 331 model spectrum, and the unification of SU(3)c and SU(3)L gauge couplings. Neutrino mass generation and successful gauge coupling unification can set lower/upper bounds on the 331 breaking scale. The partial proton decay lifetime of various channels, for example, the p→e+π0 channel, in flipped SU(6) GUT are discussed. Abstract:Product group unification is an attractive alternative to simple grand unification. It solves the infamous doublet-triplet splitting problem and the dimension-5 proton decay problems without introducing any fine-tuning. Furthermore, the matter multiplets are still embedded into unified SU(5) representations. In this paper, we discuss proton decay of the simplest product group unification model based on SU(5)XU(2)_H . We find that the minimal setup of the model has already been excluded by dimension-6 proton decay. We also show that a simple extension of the model, with naturally generated SU(5) incomplete multiplets, can rectify this problem. We find that the proton lifetime will be in reach of coming experiments like DUNE and Hyper-K, when the mass of the incomplete multiplet is associated with the Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking. In this case, the dark matter may be an admixture of the Wino LSP and the axion.

Abstract:There exists an apparent discrepancy between proton decay experiment and simplest SU(5) prediction. We suggest a scheme: if there exists an extra Z0 boson, then the experimental value of the proton decay may be calculated from GUT and the good results of SU(5) can be preserved. Abstract:We reconsider dimension-five proton decay operators, making semi-quantitative remarks which apply to a large class of supersymmetric GUTs in which the short-distance operators are correlated with the fermion Yukawa couplings. In these GUTs, which include minimal SU(5), the operators $(u^cd_i^c)^\dagger(d_j\nu_\tau)$, induced by charged Higgsino dressing, completely dominate for moderate to large $\tanbeta$. The rate for $p \rarr (K^+,\pi^+) \bar{\nu}_\tau$ grows rapidly, as $\tanbeta^4$, and the K^+ to \pi^+ branching ratio can often be precisely predicted. At small $\tanbeta$ the operators $(u d_i)(d_j \nu)$ are dominant, while the operators $(u d_i)(u \ell^-)$, with left-handed charged leptons, are comparable to the neutrino operators in the generic GUT and suppressed in minimal GUTs. Charged-lepton branching fractions are always small at large $\tanbeta$. The electron to muon ratio is small in minimal GUTs but can be larger, even of order one, in other models. All other operators are very small. At small $\tanbeta$ in non-minimal GUTs, gluino and neutralino dressing effects on neutrino rates are not negligible.

Abstract:Within supersymmetric SU(5) GUT we suggest mechanisms for suppression of baryon number violating dimension five and six operators. The mechanism is based on the idea of split multiplets (i.e. quarks and leptons are not coming from a single GUT state) which is realized by an extension with additional vector-like matter. The construction naturally avoids wrong asymptotic relation $\hat{M}_D=\hat{M}_E$. Thus, the long standing problems of the minimal SUSY SU(5) GUT can be resolved. In a particular example of flavor structure and with additional ${\cal U}(1)\tm {\cal Z}_{3N}$ symmetry we demonstrate how the split multiplet mechanism works out. Namely, the considered model is compatible with successful gauge coupling unification and realistic fermion mass pattern. The nucleon decay rates are relatively suppressed and can be well compatible with current experimental bounds.

Abstract:We study Flipped $SU(5)\times U(1)$ Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) with $\Gamma_3\simeq A_4$ modular symmetry. We propose two models with different modular weights assignments, where the fermion mass hierarchy can arise from weighton fields. In order to relax the constraint on the Dirac neutrino Yukawa matrix we appeal to mechanisms which allow incomplete GUT representations, allowing a good fit to quark and charged lepton masses and quark mixing for a single modulus field $\tau$, with the neutrino masses and lepton mixing well determined by the type I seesaw mechanism, at the expense of some tuning. We also discuss the double seesaw possibility allowed by the extra singlets generically predicted in such string inspired theories.

Conditions for Suppressing Dimension-five Proton Decay in Renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT

Abstract:The SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT is in severe tension with the experimental bounds on proton partial lifetimes because proton decay mediated by colored Higgsinos (dimension-five proton decay) is too rapid. In this paper, we pursue the possibility that a texture of the Yukawa coupling matrices in a renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT model suppresses dimension-five proton decay. We focus on a general renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT model which contains ${\bf 10}+{\bf 126}+{\bf \overline{126}}+{\bf 120}$ representation fields and where the Yukawa coupling matrices of the ${\bf 16}$ matter fields with the ${\bf 10}$, ${\bf \overline{126}}$, ${\bf 120}$ fields, $Y_{10},Y_{126},Y_{120}$, provide the quark and lepton Yukawa couplings and Majorana mass of the singlet neutrinos. We find that if components in certain flavor bases, $(Y_{10})_{u_R d_R}$, $(Y_{126})_{u_R d_R}$, $(Y_{10})_{u_R s_R}$, $(Y_{126})_{u_R s_R}$, $(Y_{10})_{u_L d_L}$, $(Y_{126})_{u_L d_L}$, $(Y_{10})_{u_L s_L}$, $(Y_{126})_{u_L s_L}$, $(Y_{10})_{u_L u_L}$, $(Y_{126})_{u_L u_L}$, are all on the order of the up quark Yukawa coupling, dimension-five proton decay can be suppressed while the Yukawa coupling matrices still reproduce the realistic quark and lepton masses and flavor mixings. We numerically obtain specific Yukawa coupling matrices satisfying the above conditions, calculate proton partial lifetimes from them and evaluate how dimension-five proton decay is suppressed when these conditions are met.

Abstract:The quartification model is an SU(3)4 extension with a bi-fundamental fermion sector of the well-known SU(3)3 bi-fundamentalfication model. An alternative "flipped" version of the quartification model is obtained by rearrangement of the particle assignments. The flipped model has two standard (bi-fundamentalfication) families and one flipped quartification family. In contrast to traditional product group unification models, flipped quartification stands out by featuring leptoquarks and thus allows for new mechanisms to explain the generation of neutrino masses and possible hints of lepton-flavor non-universality.

Abstract:We predict the low energy signatures of a Flipped $SU(5) \times U(1)_{\chi}$ effective local model , constructed within the framework of F$-$theory based on $ A_{4} $ symmetry. The Flipped SU(5) model from F Theory in the field of particle physics is prominent due to its ability to construct realistic four$-$dimensional theories from higher$-$dimensional compactifications which necessitates a unified description of the fundamental forces and particles of nature, used for exploring various extensions of the Standard Model. We study Flipped $SU(5) \times U(1)_{\chi}$ Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) with $ A_{4} $ modular symmetry. In our model due to different modular weights assignments, the fermion mass hierarchy exists with different weighton fields. The constraints on the Dirac neutrino Yukawa matrix allows a good tuning to quark and charged lepton masses and mixings for each weighton field, with the neutrino masses and lepton mixing well determined by the type I seesaw mechanism which occurs at the expense of some tuning which manifests itself in charged lepton flavour violating decays which we explore here. The minimal Flipped $SU(5$) model is supplemented with an extra right$-$handed type and its complex conjugate electron state, $ E_{c} + \bar{E_{c}} $, as well as neutral singlet fields. The $ E_{c} + \bar{E_{c}} $ pair gets masses of the order of TeV which solves the $ g_{\mu}- 2$ discrepancy. The predictions of the model for charged lepton flavour violation decay rate and proton decay could be tested in near future experiments. Also we detect in our model the existence of neutralino, its charge mass and spin via direct and indirect detection.

Abstract:We show that in supersymmetric unified theories such as SO(10), implementation of the see-saw mechanism for neutrino masses introduces a new set of color triplet fields and thereby a new source of d=5 proton decay operators. For neutrino masses in a plausible range, these operators are found to have the right strength to yield observable, but not yet excluded, proton decay rates. The flavor structure of the new operators is distinctive. Proton decay modes into a charged lepton, such as l^+ \pi^0, l^+ K^0 and l^+ \eta where l = e or \mu, can become prominent, even for low or moderate values of tan(\beta) < 10, along with the \nu K^+ and \nu \pi^+ modes. A distinctive feature is the charged lepton modes involving an e^+ and/or a \mu^+ with the ratio \Gamma(l^+ K^0):\Gamma(l^+ \pi^0) = 2:1.
A Generic Analysis of Nucleon Decay Branching Fractions in Flipped SU(5) Grand Unification

Abstract:In flipped SU(5) grand unified theories, the partial decay lifetimes of certain nucleon decay channels depend generically on an unknown unitary matrix, which arises when left-handed lepton fields are embedded into anti-fundamental representations of SU(5). This dependency is particularly relevant when the neutrino mass matrix has a generic structure, introducing uncertainty in the prediction of nucleon decay branching fractions within flipped SU(5). In this paper, we demonstrate that this uncertainty can be parametrized using two parameters, which can be determined by measuring the partial lifetimes of $p \to \pi^0 e^+$, $p \to \pi^0 \mu^+$, and $n \to \pi^0 \bar{\nu}$. In addition, we establish upper limits on the ratios of the decay widths of these channels, offering a potential method to test flipped SU(5) in future nucleon decay experiments.

Abstract:AbstractWe analyze the possible magnitude of the supersymmetric contribution to $$g_\mu - 2$$ g μ - 2 in a flipped SU(5) GUT model. Unlike other GUT models which are severely constrained by universality relations, in flipped SU(5) the U(1) gaugino mass and the soft supersymmetry-breaking masses of right-handed sleptons are unrelated to the other gaugino, slepton and squark masses. Consequently, the lightest neutralino and the right-handed smuon may be light enough to mitigate the discrepancy between the experimental measurement of $$g_\mu - 2$$ g μ - 2 and the Standard Model calculation, in which case they may be detectable at the LHC and/or a 250 GeV $$e^+ e^-$$ e + e - collider, whereas the other gauginos and sfermions are heavy enough to escape detection at the LHC.
