Abstract:In this study, we investigate the nonuniform exponential stability and nonuniform exponential instability concepts for a linear random one‐sided system. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for these concepts. As an extension for this study, we establish Lyapunov‐type characterizations using Lyapunov functions and Lyapunov norms. Additionally, we illustrate the essential properties that are derived in these directions for the adjoint and inverse systems associated for the original linear random one‐sided system.

Abstract:We study abstract sufficient criteria for cost-uniform open-loop stabilizability of linear control systems in a Banach space with a bounded control operator, which build up and generalize a sufficient condition for null-controllability in Banach spaces given by an uncertainty principle and a dissipation estimate. For stabilizability these estimates are only needed for a single spectral parameter and, in particular, their constants do not depend on the growth rate w.r.t. this parameter. Our result unifies and generalizes earlier results obtained in the context of Hilbert spaces. As an application we consider fractional powers of elliptic differential operators with constant coefficients in for and thick control sets.

Abstract:Using the error bound results established in the present paper for approximate solutions, we study the stability issues when perturbed by possibly nonaffine smooth maps E for the abstract inequality system F >=(K) 0 defined by a (possible nonclosed) convex cone K and a Frechet differentiable function F satisfying the (extended) weak gamma-condition. We provide some sufficient conditions, in terms of the information at a solution x(0), for ensuring the lower semicontinuity and/or the Lipschitz-like continuity at x(0) of the solution mapping for the perturbed system F + E >=(K) 0 with smooth perturbation E. Explicit upper bounds of the Lipschitz-like moduli are also provided.
Convergence of power sequences of B-operators with applications to stability

Abstract:The B-operators (abbreviation for Brownian-type operators) are upper triangular 2x2 block matrix operators that satisfy certain algebraic constraints. The purpose of this paper is to characterize the weak, the strongand the uniform stability of B-operators, respectively. This is achieved by giving equivalent conditions for the convergence of powers of a B-operator in each of the corresponding topologies. A more subtle characterization is obtained for B-operators with subnormal (2,2) entry. The issue of the strong stability of the adjoint of a B-operator is also discussed.

Abstract:This technical note is concerned with stability analysis and stabilization of Ito stochastic systems with Markovian switching. A couple of eigenvalue sets for some positive operator associated with the stochastic system under study are defined to characterize its stability in the mean square sense. Properties for these eigenvalue sets are established based on which we show that the spectral abscissa of these eigenvalues sets are the same and thus these eigenvalue sets are equivalent in the sense of characterizing the stability of the system. Also, it is shown that the guaranteed convergence rate of the Markovian jump Ito stochastic systems can be determined by some eigenvalue set. Finally, a linear matrix inequality based approach is proposed to design controllers such that the closed-loop system has guaranteed convergence rate. Some numerical examples are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The research in this technical note opens several perspectives for future work stated as some open problems.

Abstract:In this note, a new type of stability theorem for stochastic systems is established firstly. Based on this stability theorem and its corollaries, stochastic stabilization and destabilization by noise are further investigated. In the note, the local Lipschitz condition is weakened to the generalized local Lipschitz condition. The commonly used linear growth condition or one-side linear growth condition is weakened to the generalized one-side linear growth condition, which is local, variable and nonlinear, admits nearly arbitrary variability in the time and real nonlinearity in the state. As an application, a simple and direct design method is proposed for finding a noise strength g̅(t,x) so that the added noise g̅(t,x)dB̅(t) stabilizes an unstable stochastic system or destabilizes a stable one. A numerical example is presented at the end of the note to illustrate the usage and efficiency of the proposed design method of the note.

Abstract:In this paper, the stability problem of discrete dynamic interval systems with nonlinear perturbations is considered. By using the matrix eigenvalues theory, matrix norm theory and Lyapunov's method, some sufficient conditions are obtained which guarantee the uniform asymptotic stability of nonlinear discrete dynamic interval systems. A stability parameter and its existence are also introduced.

Abstract:Based on the stochastic Fubini theorem, an average Lyapunov functional with regard to spatial variables is constructed, by using Ito formula; the problem of robust exponential stability for a class of linear stochastic system with distributed parameter is investigated. The sufficient conditions for robust exponential stability and almost surely exponential stability are obtained. The corresponding results are also generalized to semi-linear systems.
Convergence of power sequences of operators via their stability

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the convergence of power sequences and stability of Hilbert space operators, where "convergence" and "stability" refer to weak, strong and norm topologies. It is proved that an operator has a convergent power sequence if and only if it is a (not necessarily orthogonal) direct sum of an identity operator and a stable operator. This reduces the issue of convergence of the power sequence of an operator $T$ to the study of stability of $T$. The question of when the limit of the power sequence is an orthogonal projection is investigated. Among operators sharing this property are hyponormal and contractive ones. In particular, a hyponormal or a contractive operator with no identity part is stable if and only if its power sequence is convergent. In turn, a unitary operator has a weakly convergent power sequence if and only if its singular-continuous part is weakly stable and its singular-discrete part is the identity. Characterizations of the convergence of power sequences and stability of subnormal operators are given in terms of semispectral measures.

Abstract:The connection between Poisson stability and controllability is revisited. For the controllability criterion based on weakly positive Poisson stability (WPPS) and Lie algebra rank condition (LARC), it is shown that two natural assumptions about the set of input values are necessary for strictness. By using the relationship between conservative property and WPPS, sufficient conditions for controllability of affine nonlinear systems are further discussed. At last, for systems defined on compact Riemannian manifold, the WPPS is proved to be equivalent to Poisson stability.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider random dynamical systems formed by concatenating maps acting on the unit interval in an independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) fashion. Considered as a stationary Markov process, the random dynamical system possesses a unique stationary measure . We consider a class of non-square-integrable observables , mostly of form , where is a non-recurrent point (in particular a non-periodic point) satisfying some other genericity conditions and, more generally, regularly varying observables with index . The two types of maps we concatenate are a class of piecewise expanding maps and a class of intermittent maps possessing an indifferent fixed point at the origin. Under conditions on the dynamics and , we establish Poisson limit laws, convergence of scaled Birkhoff sums to a stable limit law, and functional stable limit laws in both the annealed and quenched case. The scaling constants for the limit laws for almost every quenched realization are the same as those of the annealed case and determined by . This is in contrast to the scalings in quenched central limit theorems where the centering constants depend in a critical way upon the realization and are not the same for almost every realization.

Abstract:This paper presents a new linear matrix inequality based stability result for uncertain discrete-time linear systems, which is derived by defining a multiple-Lyapunov function and by using a new bounding technique. This new bounding technique has two advantages: (1) possible to yield less conservative results, which is shown via a numerical example; and (2) flexible to cope with more complicated problems, which is illustrated by presenting a new H-infinity performance condition. It is anticipated that the idea behind this paper can be further extended to deal with synthesis problems.

Abstract:We analyse the problem of stability of a continuous time linear switching system (LSS) versus the stability of its Euler discretization. It is well-known that the existence of a positive {\tau} for which the corresponding discrete time system with step size {\tau} is stable implies the stability of LSS. Our main goal is to obtain a converse statement, that is, to estimate the discretization step size {\tau} > 0 up to a given accuracy {\epsilon} > 0. This leads to a method of deciding the stability of continuous time LSS with a guaranteed accuracy. As the first step, we solve this problem for matrices with real spectrum and conjecture that our method stays valid for the general case. Our approach is based on Markov-Bernstein type inequalities for systems of exponents. We obtain universal estimates for sharp constants in those inequalities. Our work provides the first estimate of the computational cost of the stability problem for continuous-time LSS (though restricted to the real-spectrum case).

Abstract:We prove that input-to-state stability (ISS) of nonlinear systems over Banach spaces is equivalent to existence of a coercive Lipschitz continuous ISS Lyapunov function for this system. For linear infinite-dimensional systems, we show that ISS is equivalent to existence of a non-coercive ISS Lyapunov function and provide two simpler constructions of coercive and non-coercive ISS Lyapunov functions for input-to-state stable linear systems.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the quantitative mean ergodic theorems for two subclasses of power bounded operators on a fixed noncommutative L p space with 1 < p < ∞ , which mainly concerns power bounded invertible operators and Lamperti contractions. Our approach to the quantitative ergodic theorems relies on noncommutative square function inequalities. The establishment of the latter involves several new ingredients such as the almost orthogonality and Calderón-Zygmund arguments for non-smooth kernels from semi-commutative harmonic analysis, the extension properties of the operators under consideration from operator theory, and a noncommutative version of the classical transference method due to Coifman and Weiss.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the uniform exponential stability of the system $\frac{dx(t)}{dt}=Ax(t)-\rho Bx(t), \; (\rho >0), $ where the unbounded operator $A$ is the infinitesimal generator of a linear $C_0-$semigroup of contractions $S(t)$ in a Hilbert space $X$ and $B$ is a Desch-Schappacher operator. Then we give sufficient conditions for exponential stability of the above system. The obtained stability result is then applied to show the uniform exponential stabilization of bilinear partial differential equations.

Abstract:This paper studies finite-time stability and instability theorems in probability sense for stochastic nonlinear systems. Firstly, a new sufficient condition is proposed to guarantee that the considered system has a global solution. Secondly, we propose improved finite-time stability and instability criteria that relax the constraints on $\mathcal {L}V$ (the infinitesimal operator of Lyapunov function $V$) by the uniformly asymptotically stable function(UASF). The improved finite-time stability theorems allow $\mathcal {L}V$ to be indefinite (negative or positive) rather than just only allow $\mathcal {L}V$ to be negative. Most existing finite-time stability and instability results can be viewed as special cases of the obtained theorems. Finally, some simulation examples verify the validity of the theoretical results.
