Abstract:Nonlinear expectation, including sublinear expectation as its special case, is a new and original framework of probability theory and has potential applications in some scientific fields, especially in finance risk measure and management. Under the nonlinear expectation framework, however, the related statistical models and statistical inferences have not yet been well established. The goal of this paper is to construct the sublinear expectation regression and investigate its statistical inference. First, a sublinear expectation linear regression is defined and its identifiability is given. Then, based on the representation theorem of sublinear expectation and the newly defined model, several parameter estimations and model predictions are suggested, the asymptotic normality of estimations and the mini-max property of predictions are obtained. Furthermore, new methods are developed to realize variable selection for high-dimensional model. Finally, simulation studies and a real-life example are carried out to illustrate the new models and methodologies. All notions and methodologies developed are essentially different from classical ones and can be thought of as a foundation for general nonlinear expectation statistics.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to establish a sub - linear expectation regression model and study its statistical inference within the framework of model uncertainty (i.e., distribution uncertainty). Specifically: 1. **Define the sub - linear expectation regression model**: In traditional linear regression, it is assumed that the error term has a definite probability distribution. However, in practical applications (such as financial risk management), this assumption is often not valid. Therefore, the paper proposes a sub - linear expectation regression model, in which the distribution of the error term is uncertain. 2. **Identifiability of the model**: The paper proves that under the sub - linear expectation framework, the parameters of the regression model can still be uniquely determined. This provides a theoretical basis for subsequent parameter estimation and prediction. 3. **Parameter estimation and prediction**: Based on the representation theorem of sub - linear expectation, the paper proposes some new parameter estimation methods and proves the asymptotic normality and minimax property of these estimators. In addition, a variable selection method suitable for high - dimensional models is also developed. 4. **Practical applications**: Through simulation studies and a practical case, the paper verifies the effectiveness of the new model and methods. In particular, in terms of financial risk measurement and management, sub - linear expectation regression can provide more robust prediction results. In summary, this paper aims to fill the gap in non - linear expectation theory in statistical modeling and inference, especially how to construct effective regression analysis methods in the face of model uncertainty. The following are the key formulas in the paper: - Definition of sub - linear expectation: \[ E[g(\varepsilon)]=\sup_{f\in F}E_f[g(\varepsilon)]\quad\text{for }g\in H \] - Mean and variance uncertainty intervals of the model: \[ [\mu,\bar{\mu}]\quad\text{and}\quad[\sigma^2,\bar{\sigma}^2] \] - Expectation under G - normal regression: \[ E[Y|x] = \beta'x \] - Parameter estimation formula: \[ \hat{\beta}_G=\arg\min_{\beta\in B}\max_{1\leq i\leq m}\frac{1}{n}\sum_{j = 1}^n[Y_{ij}-\beta'x_{ij}]^2 \] These formulas show the core ideas and technical details of sub - linear expectation regression.
