Abstract:In this paper, we consider the higher divided difference of a composite function f(g(t)) in which g(t) is an s-dimensional vector. By exploiting some properties from mixed partial divided differences and multivariate Newton interpolation, we generalize the divided difference form of Faa di Bruno's formula with a scalar argument. Moreover, a generalized Faa di Bruno's formula with a vector argument is derived.

Abstract:The n-divided difference of the composite function h := f circle g of functions f, g at a group of nodes t(o), t(1),...t(n) is shown by the combinations of divided differences of f at the group of nodes g(t(o)), g(t(1)),..., g(t(m)) and divided differences of g at several partial group of nodes t(o), t(1),...,t(n), where m = 1, 2,..., n. Especially, when the given group of nodes are equal to each other completely, it will lead to Fah di Bruno's formula of higher derivatives of function h.

Abstract:A new algorithm for computing the multivariate Fa\`a di Bruno's formula is provided. We use a symbolic approach based on the classical umbral calculus that turns the computation of the multivariate Fa\`a di Bruno's formula into a suitable multinomial expansion. We propose a MAPLE procedure whose computational times are faster compared with the ones existing in the literature. Some illustrative applications are also provided.

Abstract:About 160 years ago, the Italian mathematician Fa\`a di Bruno published two notes dealing about the now eponymous formula giving the derivative of any order of a composition of two functions. We reproduce here the two original notes, Fa\`a di Bruno (1855, 1857), written respectively in Italian and in French, and propose a translation in English.

Abstract:Given two real functions on the real line f and g, the Faa di Bruno provides the higher order derivative of the composition of f and g, as a summation over the lower order derivatives of f and g individually. The corresponding multi-dimensional generalization is substantially more difficult due to the complicated combinatorial considerations one must take into account when dealing with standard multi-indices. In this note we provide a simple statement and derivation of the multi-dimensional Faa di Bruno formula by resorting to notions from multiset theory.

Abstract:We provide a novel representation of the total n-th derivative of the multivariate composite function $f \circ g$, i.e. a generalized Faà di Bruno's formula. To this end, we make use of properties of the Kronecker product and the n-th derivative of the left-composite $f$, which allow the use of a multivariate form of partial Bell polynomials to represent the generalized Faà di Bruno's formula. We further show that standard recurrence relations that hold for the univariate partial Bell polynomial also hold for the multivariate partial Bell polynomial under a simple transformation. We apply this generalization of Faà di Bruno's formula to the computation of multivariate moments of the normal distribution.

Abstract:The main objective of this investigation is to derive a generalization of Kummer's formula:F-2(1)[(1/2(a+b+1);) (a,b;) 1/2(1+z)]= Gamma(1/2)Gamma (1/2a + 1/2b + 1/2)/Gamma(1/2a + 1/2) Gamma (1/2b +1/2) F-2(1) [1/2a, 1/2b; 1/2; z(2)]+ 2 Gamma (1/2)Gamma (1/2a + 1/2b + 1/2)/Gamma(1/2a) Gamma (1/2b) F-2(1) [1/2a + 1/2, 1/2b +1/2; 3/2; z(2)] (vertical bar z vertical bar < 1),which was proved independently by Ramanujan. The results presented here are obtained with the help of a known generalization of one of Kummer's summation theorems for F-2(1) (1/2), which was given recently by Lavoie et al. [14]. Several interesting identities closely related to Ramanujan's formula follow as special cases of our main results.

Abstract:In this paper a simple algebraic formula is obtained for the correspondence between finite right nilpotent Fp-braces and finite nilpotent pre-Lie algebras. This correspondence agrees with the correspondence using Lazard's correspondence between finite Fp-braces and pre-Lie algebras proposed by Wolfgang Rump in 2014. As an application example, a classification of all right nilpotent Fp-braces generated by one element of cardinality p^4 is obtained, answering a question posed by Leandro Vendramin. It is also shown that the sum of a finite number of left nilpotent ideals in a left brace is a left nilpotent ideal, therefore every finite brace contains the largest left nilpotent ideal.

Abstract:In modern usage the Bernoulli numbers and polynomials follow Euler's approach and are defined using generating functions. We consider the functional equation $f(x)+x^k=f(x+1)$ and show that a solution can be derived from Faulhaber's formula for the sum of powers. We show how these solutions provide a characterization of Bernoulli numbers and related results.

Abstract:In this work, we establish some characteristics for a sequence, Aα(n,k), including recurrence relations, generating function and inversion formula, etc. Based on the sequence, we derive, by means of the generating function approach, some transformation formulas concerning certain combinatorial numbers named after Lah, Stirling, harmonic, Cauchy and Catalan, as well as several closed finite sums. In addition, the relationship between Aα(n,k) and r-Whitney–Lah numbers is established, and some formulas for the r-Whitney–Lah numbers are obtained.

Abstract:The symmetric function theorem states that a polynomial that is invariant under permutation of variables, is a polynomial in the elementary symmetric polynomials. We deduce this classical result, in the analytic setting, from the multivariate Faà di Bruno formula. In two variables, this allows us to completely determine all coefficients that occur in the inductive equations.
