Abstract:Let $E$and $F$ be Hermitian vector bundles over a complex manifold $X$ and let $g\colon E\to F$ be a holomorphic morphism. We prove a Poincaré-Lelong type formula with a residue term $M^g$. The currents $M^g$ so obtained have an expected functorial property. We discuss various applications: If $F$ has a trivial holomorphic subbundle of rank $r$ outside the analytic set $Z$, then we get currents with support on $Z$ that represent the Bott-Chern classes $\hat c_k(E)$ for $k >\rank E-r$. We also consider Segre and Chern forms associated with certain singular metrics on $F$. The multiplicities (Lelong numbers) of the various components of $M^g$ only depend on the cokernel of the adjoint sheaf morphism $g^*$. This leads to a notion of distinguished varieties and Segre numbers of an arbitrary coherent sheaf, generalizing these notions, in particular the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity, in case of an ideal sheaf.

Abstract:We find a relation between the vanishing of a globally defined residue current on $¶^n$ and solution of the membership problem with control of the polynomial degrees. Several classical results appear as special cases, such as Max Nöther's theorem, and we also obtain a generalization of that theorem. There are also connections to effective versions of the Nullstellensatz. We also provide explicit integral representations of the solutions.

On the regularized products of some Dirichlet series

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the regularized determinants of some Dirichlet series are multiplicative. As an application, we give generalizations of Lerch's formula for the classical gamma function and we determine the sum of some Dirichlet series generalizing Euler's formula on the sum of the reciprocal of squares. We recover the results of Kurokawa and Wakayama, and give a new proof for some Euler's formulas.

Abstract:In previous work of the authors and their collaborators (see Progress in Math, vol. 114, Birkäuser, 1993) it was shown how the equivalence of several constructions of residue currents associated to complete intersection families of (germs of) holomorphic functions in ${\bf C}^n$ could be profitably used to solve algebraic problems like effective versions of the Nullstellensatz. In this work we explain how an application of similar ideas in the non-complete intersection case leads to a remarkable algebraic result, namely: Let $P_1,...,P_n$ be $n$ polynomials in $n$ variables such that the zero set of $P_1,...,P_n$ can be defined as the zero set of $P_1,...,P_\nu$, with $\nu < n$. Then, the Jacobian $J(P_1,...,P_n)$ of $(P_1,...,P_n)$ is in the ideal generated by the $P_j$, $j=1,...,n$. The same methods lead to further insights into the construction of Green currents associated to effective cycles in projective space.

Abstract:Cohesive module provides a tool to study coherent sheaves on complex manifolds by global analytic methods. In this paper we develop the theory of residue currents for cohesive modules on complex manifolds. In particular we prove that they have the duality principle and satisfy the comparison formula. As an application, we prove a generalized version of the Poincaré-Lelong formula for cohesive modules, which applies to coherent sheaves without globally defined locally free resolutions.

Abstract:For an $m$-summable operator $A$ in a separable Hilbert space the higher regularized Fredholm determinant $\det\nolimits_m(I+A)$ generalizes the classical Fredholm determinant. Recently, Britz et al presented a proof of a product formula \[ \det\nolimits_m\bigl( (I+A)\cdot(I+B) \bigr) = \det\nolimits_m (I+A) \cdot \det\nolimits_m (I+B) \cdot \exp\operatorname{Tr}\bigl({X_m(A,B)}\bigr), \] where $X_m(A,B)$ is an explicit polynomial in $A,B$ with values in the trace class operators. If $m=1$ then $X_1(A,B)=0$, hence the formula generalizes the classical determinant product formula. One of the purposes of this note is to present two very simple alternative proofs of the formula. The first proof is a priori analytic and makes use of the fact that $z\mapsto \det\nolimits_m(I+zA)$ is holomorphic, while the second proof is completely algebraic. The algebraic proof has, in our opinion, some interesting aspects in its own about the trace and commutators. Secondly, we extend the above mentioned formula to several factors \[ \det\nolimits_m\Bigl( \prod_{l=1}^r (I+A_l) \Bigr) =\left( \prod_{l=1}^r \det\nolimits_m (I+A_l) \right) \cdot \exp\operatorname{Tr}\bigl({X_{m,r}(A_r,\ldots,A_r)}\bigr). \] The latter is more than just a straightforward generalization as we will gain more insights into the combinatorics behind it. Also we will present an algebraized version of the analytic proof in the language of formal power series. The upshot is that the two identities are just combinatorial in nature.

Abstract:Let $\mathscr{F}$ be a holomorphic foliation of rank $\kappa$ on a complex manifold $M$ of dimension $n$, let $Z$ be a compact connected component of the singular set of $\mathscr{F}$, and let $\Phi \in \mathbb C[z_1,\ldots,z_n]$ be a homogeneous symmetric polynomial of degree $\ell$ with $n-\kappa < \ell \leq n$. Given a locally free resolution of the normal sheaf of $\mathscr{F}$, equipped with Hermitian metrics and certain smooth connections, we construct an explicit current $R^\Phi_Z$ with support on $Z$ that represents the Baum-Bott residue $\text{res}^\Phi(\mathscr{F}; Z)\in H_{2n-2\ell}(Z, \mathbb C)$ and is obtained as the limit of certain smooth representatives of $\text{res}^\Phi(\mathscr{F}; Z)$. If the connections are $(1,0)$-connections and $\text{codim} Z\geq \ell$, then $R^\Phi_Z$ is independent of the choice of metrics and connections. When $\mathscr{F}$ has rank one we give a more precise description of $R^\Phi_Z$ in terms of so-called residue currents of Bochner-Martinelli type. In particular, when the singularities are isolated, we recover the classical expression of Baum-Bott residues in terms of Grothendieck residues.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a $r\times m$-matrix of holomorphic functions that is generically surjective. We provide explicit integral representation of holomorphic $\psi$ such that $\phi=f\psi$, provided that $\phi$ is holomorphic and annihilates a certain residue current with support on the set where $f$ is not surjective. We also consider formulas for interpolation. As applications we obtain generalizations of various results previously known for the case $r=1$.

Abstract:We study a family of Fourier integral operators by allowing their symbols to satisfy a multi-parameter differential inequality on R^N. We show that these operators of order -(N-1)/2 are bounded from classical, atom decomposable H^1-Hardy space to L^1(R^N). Consequently, we obtain a sharp L^p-regularity result due to Seeger, Sogge and Stein.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the product of resolvents of a finite number of monotone vector fields on a Hadamard manifold to approximate both the singular points of their sum and a common singular point among them. For the sum of any finitely many maximal monotone vector fields, with some suitable assumptions, it is proved that the obtained sequence of the iterative method is convergent. The paper ends with some examples and applications.

Abstract:We use residue currents on toric varieties to obtain bounds on the degrees of solutions to polynomial ideal membership problems. Our bounds depend on (the volume of) the Newton polytope of the polynomial system and are therefore well adjusted to sparse polynomial systems. We present sparse versions of Max Nöther's $AF+BG$ Theorem, Macaulay's Theorem, and Kollár's Effective Nullstellensatz, as well as recent results by Hickel and Andersson-Götmark.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{F}^\bullet$ be a complex of coherent $\mathcal{O}_X$-modules over a complex manifold $X$. We give a construction of a residue current associated with this complex that generalizes Andersson and Wulcan's construction of a residue current associated with a coherent $\mathcal{O}_X$-module $\mathcal{F}$. The main ingredients are to give a construction of a residue current associated with a twisting cochain in the sense of Toledo and Tong and to establish a comparison formula for these currents that generalizes an analogous formula given by Lärkäng.

Abstract:For every simple Hermitian Lie group $G$, we consider a certain maximal parabolic subgroup whose unipotent radical $N$ is either abelian (if $G$ is of tube type) or two-step nilpotent (if $G$ is of non-tube type). By the generalized Whittaker Plancherel formula we mean the Plancherel decomposition of $L^2(G/N,\omega)$, the space of square-integrable sections of the homogeneous vector bundle over $G/N$ associated with an irreducible unitary representation $\omega$ of $N$. Assuming that the central character of $\omega$ is contained in a certain cone, we construct embeddings of all holomorphic discrete series representations of $G$ into $L^2(G/N,\omega)$ and show that the multiplicities are equal to the dimensions of the lowest $K$-types.

Abstract:Let be an inner form of a general linear group over a non-Archimedean local field. We fix an arbitrary irreducible representation of . Building on the work of Lapid-Mínguez on the irreducibility of parabolic inductions, we show how to define a full subcategory of the category of smooth representations of some , on which the parabolic induction functor is fully-faithful. A key ingredient of our proof for the fully-faithfulness is constructions of indecomposable representations of length 2. Such result for a special situation has been previously applied in proving the local non-tempered Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for non-Archimedean general linear groups. In this article, we apply the fully-faithful result to prove a certain big derivative arising from Jacquet functor satisfies the property that its socle is irreducible and has multiplicity one in the Jordan-Hölder sequence of the big derivative.

Rigid Graph Products

Abstract:We prove rigidity properties for von Neumann algebraic graph products. We introduce the notion of rigid graphs and define a class of II$_1$-factors named $\mathcal{C}_{\rm Rigid}$. For von Neumann algebras in this class we show a unique rigid graph product decomposition. In particular, we obtain unique prime factorization results and unique free product decomposition results for new classes of von Neumann algebras. Furthermore, we show that for many graph products of II$_1$-factors, including the hyperfinite II$_1$-factor, we can, up to a constant 2, retrieve the radius of the graph from the graph product. We also prove several technical results concerning relative amenability and embeddings of (quasi)-normalizers in graph products. Furthermore, we give sufficient conditions for a graph product to be nuclear and characterize strong solidity, primeness and free-indecomposability for graph products.

Abstract:We prove bulk scaling limits and fluctuation scaling limits for a two-parameter class ALE of continuum planar aggregation models. The class includes regularized versions of the Hastings–Levitov family HL and continuum versions of the family of dielectric-breakdown models, where the local attachment intensity for new particles is specified as a negative power of the density of arc length with respect to harmonic measure. The limit dynamics follow solutions of a certain Loewner–Kufarev equation, where the driving measure is made to depend on the solution and on the parameter . Our results are subject to a subcriticality condition : this includes HL for and also the case corresponding to a continuum Eden model. Hastings and Levitov predicted a change in behaviour for HL at , consistent with our results. In the regularized regime considered, the fluctuations around the scaling limit are shown to be Gaussian, with independent Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes driving each Fourier mode, which are seen to be stable if and only if .

Abstract:We prove an operator-theoretic reconstruction of the Beilinson-Bloch regulator for compact Riemann surfaces, using loop operators and the Connes-Karoubi character for Fredholm modules. The proof includes a new computation of the Connes-Karoubi character for Steinberg symbols of the circle, which relies on the Helton-Howe determinant theory, but not on the Carey-Pincus theory of joint torsion.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a discrete group. Given unital $G$-$C^*$-algebras $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$, we give an abstract condition under which every $G$-subalgebra $\mathcal{C}$ of the form $\mathcal{A}\subset \mathcal{C}\subset \mathcal{A}\otimes_{\text{min}}\mathcal{B}$ is a tensor product. This generalizes the well-known splitting results in the context of $C^*$-algebras by Zacharias and Zsido. As an application, we prove a topological version of the Intermediate Factor theorem. When a product group $G=\Gamma_1\times\Gamma_2$ acts (by a product action) on the product of corresponding $\Gamma_i$-boundaries $\partial\Gamma_i$, using the abstract condition, we show that every intermediate subalgebra $C(X)\subset\mathcal{C}\subset C(X)\otimes_{\text{min}}C(\partial\Gamma_1\times \partial\Gamma_2)$ is a tensor product (under some additional assumptions on $X$). This can be considered as a topological version of the Intermediate Factor theorem. We prove that our assumptions are necessary and cannot generally be relaxed. We also introduce the notion of a uniformly rigid action for $C^*$-algebras and use it to give various classes of inclusions $\mathcal{A}\subset \mathcal{A}\otimes_{\text{min}}\mathcal{B}$ for which every invariant intermediate algebra is a tensor product.

Characteristic Currents on Cohesive Modules

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a coherent sheaf on a complex variety $X$ that has a locally free resolution $E^{\bullet}$. In [19], the authors constructed a pseudomeromorphic current whose support is contained in $supp(E^{\bullet})$ that represents products of Chern classes of $\mathcal{F}.$ In this paper, we show that their construction works for general de-Rham characteristic classes and then generalize it to represent products (in de-Rham cohomology) of characteristic forms of cohesive modules defined by Block. Finally, we state a corollary to a transgression result in [16] that show that it is sufficient to only use the degree-$0$ and degree-$1$ parts of the superconnection to construct currents that represent characteristic forms of cohesive modules in the Bott-Chern cohomology.
