Abstract:It is a classical problem in algebraic number theory to decide if a number field admits power integral bases and further to calculate all generators of power integral bases. This problem is especially delicate to consider in an infinite parametric family of number fields. In the present paper we investigate power integral bases in the infinite parametric family of pure quartic fields $K=Q(\sqrt[4]{m})$. We often pointed out close connection of various types of Thue equations with calculating power integral bases. In this paper we determine power integral bases in pure quartic fields by reducing the corresponding index form equation to quartic binomial Thue equations. We apply recent results on the solutions of binomial Thue equations of type $a^4-mb^4=\pm 1\; ({\rm in}\; a,b\in Z)$ as well as we perform an extensive calculation by a high performance computer to determine "small" solutions (with $\max(|a|,|b|)<10^{500}$) of binomial Thue equations for $m<10^7$. Using these results on binomial Thue equations we characterize power integral bases in infinite subfamilies of pure quartic fields. For $1< m< 10^7$ we give all generators of power integral bases with coefficients $<10^{1000}$ in the integral basis.
Calculating power integral bases in some quartic fields corresponding to monogenic families of polynomials

Abstract:J. Harrington and L. Jones characterized monogenity of four new parametric families of quartic polynomials with various Galois groups. A short time later P. Voutier added a cyclic family. In this note we intend to describe all generators of power integral bases in the number fields generated by a root of the monogenic polynomials.

Abstract:We describe an efficient algorithm to calculate generators of power integral bases in composites of totally real fields and imaginary quadratic fields with coprime discriminants. We show that the calculation can be reduced to solving index form equations in the original totally real fields. We illustrate our method by investigating monogenity in the infinite parametric family of imaginary quadratic extensions of the simplest quartic fields.

Abstract:Let $K=\mathbb{Q}[\iota]$ and $N=K[\sqrt[4]{\alpha}]$, $\alpha\in\mathbb{Z}[\iota]$, $alpha=fg^2h^3$, $f$, $g$, $h\in \mathbb{Z}[\iota]$ are pairwise coprime and square free. Let $\mathcal{O}_N$ be the ring of integers of $N$. In this article we construct normalised integral basis for $\mathcal{O}_N$ over $\mathbb{Z}[\iota]$, that is an integral basis of the form \[ \left\{1,\frac{f_1(\alpha)}{d_1},\frac{f_2(\alpha)}{d_2},\frac{f_{3}(\alpha)}{d_3}\right\} \] where $d_i \in \mathbb{Z}[i]$ and $f_i(X)$, $\leq i\leq 3$ are monic polynomials of degree $i$ over $\mathbb{Z}[\iota]$. We explicitly determine what $d_i$, $1\leq i\leq n-1$ are in terms of $f$, $g$ and $h$.

Normal integral bases of Lehmer's cyclic quintic fields

Abstract:Let $K_n$ be a tamely ramified cyclic quintic field generated by a root of Emma Lehmer's parametric polynomial. We give all normal integral bases for $K_n$ only by the roots of the polynomial, which is a generalization of the work of Lehmer in the case that $n^4+5n^3+15n^2+25n+25$ is prime number, and Spearman-Willliams in the case that $n^4+5n^3+15n^2+25n+25$ is square-free.

Abstract:Suppose $m$ be a $12$-th power free integer. Let $K=\mathbb{Q}(\theta)$ be an algebraic number field defined by a complex root $\theta$ of an irreducible polynomial $x^{12}-m$ and $O_K$ be its ring of integers. In this paper, we determine the highest power of $p$ dividing the index of the subgroup $\Z[\theta]$ in $O_K$ and $p$-integral basis of $K$ for each prime $p$. These $p$-integral bases lead to the construction of an integral basis of $K$ which is illustrated with examples. In particular, when $m$ is a square free integer, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the set $\{1,\theta,\theta^2,\cdots,\theta^{10},\theta^{11}\}$ to be an integral basis of $K.$

Elliptic units for complex cubic fields

Abstract:We propose a conjecture extending the classical construction of elliptic units to complex cubic number fields $K$. The conjecture concerns special values of the elliptic gamma function, a holomorphic function of three complex variables arising in mathematical physics whose transformation properties under $\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbf{Z})$ were studied by Felder and Varchenko in the early 2000s. Using this function we construct complex numbers that we conjecture to be units in narrow ray class fields of $K$. We also propose a reciprocity law for the action of the Galois group on these units in the style of Shimura. To support our conjecture we offer numerical evidence and also prove a new type of Kronecker limit formula relating the logarithm of the modulus of these complex numbers to the derivatives at $s = 0$ of partial zeta functions of $K$. Our constructions unveil the role played by the elliptic gamma function in Hilbert's twelfth problem for complex cubic fields.

Abstract:We determine the quadratic Chabauty set for integral points on elliptic curves of rank $2$ defined over imaginary quadratic fields using quadratic Chabauty. This builds on the work of Bianchi and Balakrishnan et al. We give the first instance of the implementation of anticyclotomic heights for curves which are not base changes, along with an implementation of a certain sieve for elliptic curves introduced by Balakrishnan et al. and used by Bianchi to determine integral points of rank $2$. We give the first example of the determination of the integral points of an elliptic curve of rank $2$ defined over an imaginary quadratic field, which is not a base change via quadratic Chabauty.

Elliptic Units Above Fields With Exactly One Complex Place

Abstract:In this work we explore the construction of abelian extensions of fields with exactly one complex place using multivariate analytic functions in the spirit of Hilbert's 12th problem. To this end we study the special values of the multiple elliptic Gamma functions introduced in the early 2000s by Nishizawa following the work of Felder and Varchenko on the elliptic Gamma function of Ruijsenaars. We construct geometric variants of these functions enjoying transformation properties under an action of $\mathrm{SL}_{d}(\mathbb{Z})$ for $d \geq 2$. The evaluation of these functions at points of a degree $d$ field $\mathbb{K}$ with exactly one complex place following the scheme of a recent article by Bergeron, Charollois and García (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2311.04110" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.04110">arXiv:2311.04110</a>) seems to produce algebraic numbers. More precisely, we conjecture that such infinite products yield algebraic units in abelian extensions of $\mathbb{K}$ related to conjectural Stark units and we provide numerical evidence to support this conjecture for cubic, quartic and quintic fields.

Abstract:Given a totally real number field $F$, we show that there are only finitely many totally real extensions of $K$ of a fixed degree that admit a universal quadratic form defined over $F$. We further obtain several explicit classification results in the case of relative quadratic extensions.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct the so-called q-Schur modules as left principal ideals of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, and prove that they are isomorphic to those cell modules defined in [3] and [9] in any level r. After that, mainly, we prove that these q-Schur modules are free and construct their bases. This result gives new versions of some known results such as standard basis and the branching theorem. With the help of this realization and the new basis, we give a new proof of the Branch rule of Weyl modules which was first discovered by Wada in [13].

Abstract:In all available papers, on power integral bases of pure octic number fields $K$, generated by a root $\alpha$ of a monic irreducible polynomial $f(x)=x^8-m\in\mathbf Z[x]$, it was assumed that $m\neq \pm 1$ is square free. In this paper, we investigate the monogenity of any pure octic number field, without the condition that $m$ is square free. We start by calculating an integral basis of $\mathbf Z_K$, the ring of integers of $K$. In particular, we characterize when $\mathbf Z_K=\mathbf Z[\alpha]$. We give sufficient conditions on $m$, which guarantee that $K$ is not monogenic. We finish the paper by investigating the case when $m=a^u$, $u\in\{1,3,5,7\}$ and $a\neq \mp 1$ is a square free rational integer.

An Infinite Family of Real Quadratic Fields with Three Classes of Perfect Unary Forms

Abstract:In this paper, we revisit the theory of perfect unary forms over real quadratic fields. Specifically, we deduce an infinite family of real quadratic fields $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d})$ when $d=2$ or $3$ mod $4$, such that there are three classes of perfect unary forms up to homothety and equivalence. This work, along with the work in \cite{unitred}, seems to suggest that the number of classes of perfect unary forms is related to the fundamental unit of $K$.

Abstract:For any given positive integer m we construct certain totally positive algebraic integers of a real bi-quadratic field K and obtain some necessary conditions for which cannot be represented as sum of integral squares. We show this for integers that lie in quadratic subfields of K and for integers which are in K but not in any quadratic subfield of K . We provide examples in tabular form for each case to corroborate the results.

On the monogenity of totally complex pure octic fields

Abstract:Let $0,1\ne m\in Z$ and $\alpha=\sqrt[8]{m}$. According to the results of I. Gaál and L. El Fadil, $\alpha$ generates a power integral basis in $K=Q(\alpha)$, if and only if $m$ is square-free and $m\not\equiv 1\;(\bmod\; 4)$. In the present paper we consider totally complex pure octic fields, that is the case $m<0$, with $m$ satisfiying the above property. In this case $(1,\alpha,\alpha^2,\ldots,\alpha^7)$ is an integral basis. Our purpose is to investigate whether $K$ admits any other generators of power integral bases, inequivalent to $\alpha$. We present an efficient method to calculate generators of power integral bases in this type of fields with coefficients $<10^{200}$ in the above integral basis. We report on the results of our calculation for this type of fields with $0>m>-5000$, which yields 2024 fields.

Abstract:In \cite{Haran_1990}, Haran, using Riesz potentials, presents a version of the classical explicit formula for the Riemann zeta function that treats all places equally. In this article, we extend Haran's results to the case of an imaginary quadratic extension of $\mathbb{Q}$. To this end, we define Riesz kernels for both the totally ramified and complex cases. Although Haran implicitly addressed the unramified extension, we also include this case for the sake of completeness. Following Haran's approach with the Riemann zeta function, we demonstrate that these Riesz kernels naturally arise in connection with the contributions of the totally ramified and complex places to the Dedekind zeta function of the imaginary quadratic extension.

Abstract:We prove that the Steinberg module of the special linear group of a quadratic imaginary number ring which is not Euclidean is not generated by integral apartments. Assuming the generalized Riemann hypothesis, this shows that the Steinberg module of a number ring is generated by integral apartments if and only if the ring is Euclidean. We also construct new cohomology classes in the top dimensional cohomology group of the special linear group of some quadratic imaginary number rings.
