Abstract:We discuss gauge and Yukawa unification in the context of a supersymmetric model with bilinear R-parity violation. We show that this model allows $b-\tau$ Yukawa unification for any value of $\tan\beta$ while satisfying perturbativity of the couplings. We also find the $t-b-\tau$ Yukawa unification easier to achieve than in the MSSM, occurring in a wider high $\tan\beta$ region. Finaly, we also discuss the compatibility between the predicted and the measured values for $\alpha_s(M_Z)$

SUSY GUTs with Yukawa unification: a go/no-go study using FCNC processes

Abstract:We address the viability of exact Yukawa unification in the context of general SUSY GUTs with universal soft-breaking sfermion and gaugino mass terms at the GUT scale. We find that this possibility is challenged, unless the squark spectrum is pushed well above the limits allowed by naturalness. This conclusion is assessed through a global fit using electroweak observables and quark flavour-changing neutral current (FCNC) processes. The problem is mostly the impossibility of accommodating simultaneously the bottom mass and the BR(B --> Xs gamma), after the stringent CDF upper bound on the decay Bs --> mu^+ mu^- is taken into account, and under the basic assumption that the b --> s gamma amplitude have like sign with respect to the Standard Model one, as indicated by the B --> Xs l^+ l^- data. With the same strategy, we also consider the possibility of relaxing Yukawa unification to b - tau Yukawa unification. We find that with small departures from the condition tan beta ~= 50, holding when Yukawa unification is exact, the mentioned tension is substantially relieved. We emphasize that in the region where fits are successful the lightest part of the SUSY spectrum is basically fixed by the requirements of b - tau unification and the applied FCNC constraints. As such, it is easily falsifiable once the LHC turns on.

$ t-b-τ$ Yukawa Unification in Non-Holomorphic MSSM

Abstract:We show that in the CMSSM with the non-holomorphic soft SUSY breaking terms, the Yukawa coupling unification of the third family fermions at the GUT scale, called $ t-b-\tau $ Yukawa unification (YU), is possible under the recent collider and Dark Matter results. The YU parameter can also be found $ R_{tb\tau} \approx 1 $, called perfect unification. We find that the squark masses exceed 3 TeV while the stau can be considerably lighter. In the case of YU, the $ \tan\beta $ is in the interval $ [46,55] $. We obtain bino-like dark matter (DM) of mass in the range of $ 0.6$ TeV $ \lesssim m_{\chi_{1}^{0}} \lesssim 1.3 $ TeV where the recent Dark Matter direct detection limits are also satisfied. We also identify A-resonance solutions which reduce the relic abundance of LSP neutralino down to the ranges compatible with the current Planck measurements.

The Unified Minimal Supersymmetric Model with Large Yukawa Couplings

Abstract:The consequences of assuming the third-generation Yukawa couplings are all large and comparable are studied in the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. General aspects of the RG evolution of the parameters, theoretical constraints needed to ensure proper electroweak symmetry breaking, and experimental and cosmological bounds on low-energy parameters are presented. We also present complete and exact semi-analytic solutions to the 1-loop RG equations. Focusing on SU(5) or SO(10) unification, we analyze the relationship between the top and bottom masses and the superspectrum, and the phenomenological implications of the GUT conditions on scalar masses. Future experimental measurements of the superspectrum and of the strong coupling will distinguish between various GUT-scale scenarios. And if present experimental knowledge is to be accounted for most naturally, a particular set of predictions is singled out.

A natural framework for bi-large neutrino mixing

Abstract:In this talk I describe a natural framework for bi-large neutrino mixing within the context of two models -- 1) a simple generalization of the MSSM and 2) an SO(10) model. Our starting point is the Frampton, Glashow, Yanagida [FGY] neutrino mass ansatz which can easily accomodate bi-large neutrino mixing. The main point of FGY, however, is to obtain a theory of neutrino masses with only one possible CP violating angle. They argue that the sign of the baryon asymmetry of the universe (assuming leptogenesis) is then correlated with CP asymmetries possibly observable in accelerator experiments. Unfortunately, there is a fly in the ointment. It was later shown by Raidal and Strumia [RS] that there is a sign ambiguity which frustrates the above correlation. We note that the Raidal-Strumia ambiguity is resolved in our models.

Successful Yukawa structures in Warped Extra Dimensions

Abstract:For a RS model, with SM fields in the bulk and the Higgs boson on the TeV-brane, we suggest two specific structures for the Yukawa couplings, one based on a permutation symmetry and the other on the Universal Strength of Yukawa couplings hypothesis (USY). In USY, all Yukawa couplings have equal strength and the difference in the Yukawa structure lies in some complex phase. In both scenarios, all Yukawa couplings are of the same order of magnitude. Thus, the main features of the fermion hierarchies are explained through the RS geometrical mechanism, and not because some Yukawa coupling is extremely small. We find that the RS model is particularly appropriate to incorporate the suggested Yukawa configurations. Indeed, the RS geometrical mechanism of fermion locations along the extra dimension, combined with the two Yukawa scenarios, reproduces all the present experimental data on fermion masses and mixing angles. It is quite remarkable that in the USY case, only two complex phases of definite value +-Pi/2 are sufficient to generate the known neutrino mass differences, while at same time, permitting large leptonic mixing in agreement with experiment.

Abstract:We propose to generate a realistic soft SUSY breaking spectrum for Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) with a generalized deflected mirage mediation scenario, in which additional Yukawa and gauge mediation contributions are included to deflect the renormalization group equation trajectory. Based on the Wilsonian effective action obtained by integrating out the messengers, the NMSSM soft SUSY breaking spectrum can be given analytically at the messenger scale. We find that additional contributions to $$m_S^2$$ can possibly ameliorate the stringent constraints from the electroweak symmetry breaking and 125 GeV Higgs mass. Constraints from dark matter and fine-tuning are also discussed. The Barbieri–Giudice fine-tuning measure and electroweak fine-tuning measure in our scenario can be as low as $${\mathcal O}(1)$$ , which possibly indicates that our scenario is natural.
Muon anomalies and the $SU(5)$ Yukawa relations

Abstract:We show that, within the framework of $SU(5)$ Grand Unified Theories (GUTs), multiple vector-like families at the GUT scale which transform under a gauged $U(1)'$ (under which the three chiral families are neutral) can result in a single vector-like family at low energies which can induce non-universal and flavourful $Z'$ couplings, which can account for the B physics anomalies in $R_{K^{(*)}}$. In such theories, we show that the same muon couplings which explain $R_{K^{(*)}}$ also correct the Yukawa relation $Y_e=Y_d^T$ in the muon sector without the need for higher Higgs representations. To illustrate the mechanism, we construct a concrete a model based on $SU(5)\times A_4 \times Z_3\times Z_7$ with two vector-like families at the GUT scale, and two right-handed neutrinos, leading to a successful fit to quark and lepton (including neutrino) masses, mixing angles and CP phases, where the constraints from lepton flavour violation require $Y_e$ to be diagonal.

The Non-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model at Large $\tanβ$

Abstract:We present a comprehensive analysis of the Non-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) for large values of $\tan\beta$, the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets, which arise when we impose the constraint of the unification of Yukawa couplings in the model. In this limit we show that the vacuum expectation value of the singlet is forced to be large, of the order of $10$ TeV. The singlet decouples from the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson and the neutralinos. We compare our results with the corresponding particle spectrum of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model in the same limit. With the exception of the lightest Higgs boson, the particle spectrum in the model turns out to be heavy. The Higgs boson mass, after the inclusion of radiative corrections, is found to be in the neighbourhood of $\sim 130$ GeV.

Probing New Physics Signals with Symmetry-Restored Yukawa Textures

Abstract:Abstract We implement a symmetry violation guideline into a two-Higgs-doublet model embedded with three right-handed neutrinos, and exploit the generic Yukawa structures of the model via a hypothetical symmetry restoration of a global $$U_Q(1)^3\times U_L(1)^3$$ UQ(1)3×UL(1)3 symmetry. We then apply a mass-powered parametrization to construct the phenomenologically motivated Yukawa interactions, which enables us to incorporate correlatively the neutrino mass, dark matter, as well as the lepton-flavor universality violations in $$R_{K^{(*)}}$$ RK(∗) and $$R_{D^{(*)}}$$ RD(∗) . Specifically, two atmospheric-scale neutrino masses are generated by a low-scale seesaw mechanism, while the much lighter one, being of $$\mathcal {O}(10^{-6})~{{\mathrm{eV}}}$$ O(10-6)eV , is fixed by a $$7.1~{\mathrm{keV}}$$ 7.1keV sterile neutrino dark matter produced primordially by the freeze-in mechanism. On the other hand, the neutrino and the charged-lepton mass hierarchies encoded in the mass-powered textures can naturally account for the $$R_{K^{(*)}}$$ RK(∗) and the $$R_{D^{(*)}}$$ RD(∗) anomalies, respectively. As a further application, a milder discrepancy of the muon $$g{-}2$$ g-2 is observed, which has also been implied by the recently refined lattice results.
Sparticle masses from transverse mass kinks at the LHC: the case of Yukawa-unified SUSY GUTs

Abstract:We explore, in a concrete example, to which extent new particle mass determinations are practicable with LHC data. Our chosen example is that of Yukawa-unified SUSY GUTs, whose viability has been recently studied for two general patterns of soft SUSY-breaking terms. We note that both patterns of SUSY spectra do not admit long decay chains, which would make it possible to determine the masses of the SUSY particles involved using endpoints or mass relations. We thus take the so-called mT2-kink method as our key strategy, since it does not rely on the presence of long decay chains. We then discuss a procedure allowing to determine the masses of the gluino, of the lightest chargino as well as of the first two neutralinos and, for the scenario where a stop is lighter than the gluino, the mass of the light stop too. Our worked example of Yukawa-unified SUSY GUTs may offer a useful playground for dealing with other theories which predict similar patterns of SUSY spectra.

Abstract:We study the Yukawa unification, in particular, the unification of the Yukawa coupling constants of $b$ and $\tau$, in the framework of supersymmetric (SUSY) model. We concentrate on the model in which the SUSY breaking scalar masses are of the order of the gravitino mass while the gaugino masses originate from the effect of anomaly mediation and hence are one-loop suppressed relative to the gravitino mass. We perform an accurate calculation of the Yukawa coupling constants of $b$ and $\tau$ at the grand unified theory (GUT) scale, including relevant renormalization group effects and threshold corrections. In particular, we study the renormalization group effects, taking into account the mass splittings among sfermions, gauginos, and the standard model particles. We found that the Yukawa coupling constant of $b$ at the GUT scale is about $70\ \%$ of that of $\tau$ if there is no hierarchy between the sfermion masses and the gravitino mass. Our results suggest sizable threshold corrections to the Yukawa coupling constants at the GUT scale or significant suppressions of the sfermion masses relative to the gravitino mass.

Abstract:Grand Unified Theories predict relationships between the GUT-scale quark and lepton masses. Using new data in the context of the MSSM, we update the values and uncertainties of the masses and mixing angles for the three generations at the GUT scale. We also update fits to hierarchical patterns in the GUT-scale Yukawa matrices. The new data shows not all the classic GUT-scale mass relationships remain in quantitative agreement at small to moderate tan beta. However, at large tan beta, these discrepancies can be eliminated by finite, tan beta-enhanced, radiative, threshold corrections if the gluino mass has the opposite sign to the wino mass.

Abstract:Hypotheses of the universal seesaw mechanism and the {\it universal strength for Yukawa couplings} are applied to explain one possible origin of quasi-democratic mass matrices of a special type in a left-right symmetric model with the gauge group $SU(3)_c\times SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R\times U(1)$. Two kinds of Higgs doublets are postulated to mediate scalar interactions between the $i$-th generation of light fermion doublets and the $j$-th generation of heavy fermion singlets with relative Yukawa coupling constants of the exponential form $e^{i\phi_{ij}}$, where $\phi_{ij}$ are real phase constants. The lowest seesaw approximation results effectively in self-adjoint mass matrices which are quasi-democratic and have the same diagonal elements. A set of values for the parameters $\phi_{ij}$ is found which reproduces the present experimental data for the absolute values of the CKM matrix elements, the Jarlskog parameter and the Wolfenstein parameters.

Some Unfinished Thoughts on Strong Yukawa Couplings

Abstract:Yukawa couplings of electroweak Goldstone bosons can be inferred from experiment, but the existence of an elementary Higgs boson is not yet an established fact. If a sequential chiral quark generation does exist, it would bring us now into the strong Yukawa coupling regime. Guided by a Bethe--Salpeter equation approach, we postulate that the leading collapse state, the (heavy) isotriplet and color-singlet $\pi_1$ meson, becomes the Goldstone boson $G$ itself. Viewing it as a deeply bound state, a gap equation is constructed. This "`bootstrap" picture for electroweak symmetry breaking relies on strong Yukawa coupling, without providing any theory of the latter.

Abstract:In this paper I first give a brief introduction to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model(MSSM). Then I discuss a little bit on why we need supersymmetry, the consequence of electroweak symmetry breaking in MSSM and the mass spectrum. After that, I turn to study dynamical supersymmetry breaking(DSB). I first consider the Supersymmetric QCD(SQCD): its classical moduli spaces, Affine-DineSeiberg(ADS) superpotential, and Quantum Moduli Spaces(QMS) when Nf = Nc. Then two models, the 3-2 model and Intriligator-Thomas model are proposed as examples on two distinct ways of DSB, which are DSB from ADS criteria and DSB from Deformed QMS, respectively. Abstract:We examine unification of gauge couplings in four dimensional renormalizable gauge theories inspired by the latticized (deconstructed) SM or MSSM in five dimensions. The models are based on replicated gauge groups, spontaneously broken to the diagonal subgroup. The analysis is performed at the one-loop level, with the contribution from the heavy vector bosons included, and compared with the analogous results in the SM or MSSM. Unification at the diagonal breaking scale is compared with the unification above that scale proposed by Arkani-Hamed, Cohen and Georgi. We find that in the considered class of extensions of the MSSM(SM) unification is possible for a wide range of unification scales and with a similar accuracy as in the MSSM(SM).

Abstract:Dipole operator s¯σμνFμνb requires the helicity flip in the involving quark states thus the breaking of chiral U(3)Q×U(3)d. On the other hand, the b quark mass generation is also a consequence of chiral U(3)Q×U(3)d symmetry breaking. Therefore, in many models, there might be strong correlation between the b→sγ and b quark Yukawa coupling. In this Letter, we use non-decoupling MSSM model to illustrate this feature. In the scenario, the light Higgs boson may evade the direct search experiments at LEPII or Tevatron while the 125 GeV Higgs-like boson is identified as the heavy Higgs boson in the spectrum. A light charged Higgs is close to the heavy Higgs boson which is of 125 GeV and its contribution to b→sγ requires large supersymmetric correction with large PQ and R-symmetry breaking. The large supersymmetric contribution at the same time significantly modifies the b quark Yukawa coupling. With combined flavor constraints B→Xsγ and Bs→μ+μ− and direct constraints on Higgs properties, we find best fit scenarios with light stop of O(500GeV), negative At around −750GeV and large μ-term of 2–3 TeV. In addition, reduction in bb¯ partial width may also result in large enhancement of ττ decay branching fraction. Large parameter region in the survival space under all bounds may be further constrained by H→ττ if no excess of ττ is confirmed at LHC. We only identify a small parameter region with significant H→hh decay that is consistent with all bounds and reduced ττ decay branching fraction. In the end, if current dark matter mostly consists of neutralino, direct detection experiments like XENON100 also puts stringent bound over this scenario with light Higgs bosons. The light stops which are required by flavor constraints can further enhance the scattering cross section.
Vacuum Stability with Tachyonic Boundary Higgs Masses in No-Scale Supersymmetry or Gaugino Mediation

Abstract:No-scale supersymmetry or gaugino mediation augmented with large negative Higgs soft masses at the input scale provides a simple solution to the supersymmetric flavor problem while giving rise to a neutralino LSP. However, to obtain a neutralino LSP it is often necessary to have tachyonic input Higgs soft masses that can give rise to charge-and-color-breaking (CCB) minima and unbounded-from-below (UFB) directions in the low energy theory. We investigate the vacuum structure in these theories to determine when such problematic features are present. When the standard electroweak vacuum is only metastable, we compute its lifetime under vacuum tunneling. We find that vacuum metastability leads to severe restrictions on the parameter space for larger $\tan\beta \sim 30$, while for smaller $\tan\beta\sim 10$, only minor restrictions are found. Along the way, we derive an exact bounce solution for tunneling through an inverted parabolic potential.

Abstract:It is known that the recently reported shift of the W boson mass can be easily explained by an SU(2)L triplet Higgs boson with a zero hypercharge if it obtains a vacuum expectation value (VEV) of O(1) GeV. Surprisingly, the addition of a TeV scale complex triplet Higgs boson to the standard model (SM) leads to a precise unification of the gauge couplings at around 1014 GeV. We consider that it is a consequence of SU(5) grand unification and show a possible potential for the Higgs fields yielding a weak scale complex SU(2) triplet scalar boson. Although it seems the proton decay constraint would doom such a low-scale unification, we show that the constraint can be avoided by introducing vector-like fermions which mix with the SM fermions through mass terms involving the VEV of GUT breaking Higgs field. Importantly, the simplest viable model only requires the addition of one pair of vector-like fermions transforming 10 and 10‾.
