Abstract:In this paper, we employ two types of implicit relations to define some new kind of proximal contractions and study about their best proximity points. More precisely, we use two class of functions $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{A}'$ to explore proximal $\mathcal{A}$, $\mathcal{A}'$-contractions of first and second type and strong proximal $\mathcal{A}$, $\mathcal{A}'$-contractions. We investigate the existence of best proximity point results of the same. It is worth mentioning that the well-known results of Sadiq Basha [J. Approx. Theory, $2011$] on proximal contractions are the special cases of our obtained results. We authenticate our results by suitable examples.

Abstract:In the year 2011, <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://S.Basha" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> \cite{BS} introduced the notion of proximal contraction in a metric space $X$ and study the existence and uniqueness of best proximity point for this class of mappings. Also, the author gave an algorithm to achieve this best proximity point. In this paper, we show that the best proximity point theorem can be proved by Banach contraction principle.

Abstract:In this manuscript, motivated and inspired by results of Best proximity point of generalized $ F $-proximal non-self contractions, we introduce the concept of generalized $\theta-\phi-$proximal contraction and prove new best proximity results for these contractions in the setting of a metric space. Our results generalize and extend many recent results appearing in the literature. An example is being given to demonstrate the usefulness of our results.

Abstract:In this paper, we aim to overcome the problem given by Abkar et al. [ Abstr. Appl. Anal. , 2013 (2013), 189567], and so to obtain real generalizations of fixed point results in the literature. In this direction, we introduce a new class of functions, which include $ \mathcal{R} $-functions. Thus, we present a new type of $ \mathcal{R} $ -contraction and weaken $ \mathcal{R} $-contractions that have often been studied recently. We also give a new definition of the $ P $-property. Hence, we obtain some best proximity point results, including fixed point results for the new kind of $ \mathcal{R} $-contractions. Then, we provide an example to show the effectiveness of our results. Finally, inspired by a nice and interesting technique, we investigate the existence of a best proximity point of the homotopic mappings with the help of our main result.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to present a study of $ \alpha $-$ \eta $-type generalized $ F $-proximal contraction mappings in the framework of modular metric spaces and to prove some best proximity point theorems for these types of mappings. Some examples are given to show the validity of our results. We also apply our results to establish the existence of solutions for a certain type of non-linear integral equation.

Abstract:Cyclic mappings describe fixed paths for which each point is sequentially transmitted from one set to another. Cyclic mappings satisfying certain cyclic contraction conditions have been used to obtain the best proximity points, which constitute a suitable framework for the mirror reflection model. Alternative contraction mappings introduced by Chen (Symmetry 11:750, 2019) built a new model containing several mirrors in which the light reflected from a mirror does not go to the next mirror sequentially, and its path may diverge to any other mirror. The aim of this paper is to present a new variant of alternative contraction called alternative p -contraction and study its properties. The best proximity point result for such contractions under the alternative UC property is proved. An example to support the result proved herein is provided.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new approach to check the existence of best proximity points for R‐proximal contractions in the framework of metric spaces equipped with a w 0 ‐distance and present elementary proofs of recent results by using the corresponding fixed point problems without the continuity assumption of the considered self‐mapping. We also discuss on cyclic Geraghty contractions and resolve the problem of the existence and convergence of the best proximity point for such a class of mappings.

Abstract:We introduce and investigate a new generalized convexity notion for functions called prox-convexity. The proximity operator of such a function is single-valued and firmly nonexpansive. We provide examples of (strongly) quasiconvex, weakly convex, and DC (difference of convex) functions that are prox-convex, however none of these classes fully contains the one of prox-convex functions or is included into it. We show that the classical proximal point algorithm remains convergent when the convexity of the proper lower semicontinuous function to be minimized is relaxed to prox-convexity.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the notions of proximally completeness, proximally closedness and proximally continuity and utilize the same to prove a result on existence and uniqueness of best proximity points in the setting of metric space (not necessarily complete). Our newly proved result enriches, sharpens, improves and modifies the proximal contraction principle of Basha [J. Optim. Theory Appl. 2011:151 (2011), 210-216]. In order to illustrate the effectiveness of our finding, we discuss the sufficient conditions ensuring the existence of a unique solution of certain variational inequality problem.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we obtain some best proximity point results by introducing the concepts of proximal p -contractions of the first type and proximal p -contractions of the second type on partial metric spaces. Thus, some famous results in the literature such as the main result of Altun et al. (Acta Math Hung 162:393–402, 2020) and Basha (J Approx Theory 163(11):1772–1781, 2011) have been extended. Also, we provide some examples where our results are applicable and the results in Haghi et al. (Topol Appl 160:450–454, 2013) are not. Hence, our results are a real generalization of some results in metric spaces and partial metric spaces. Finally, we obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of the solution of nonlinear fractional differential equations via our results.

Abstract:In this paper, we work on the existence of approximate solution for the fixed point equation Rx + Qx = x, when R is a weak contractive mapping and Q is a continuous self-map which is a new topic related to the background literature. Till now, no results were found to find the existence of approximate solution for such a kind of mappings in literature to the best of our knowledge. Here we prove the existence of best proximity point for the sum of a weak contractive non self map and a continuous self map. Also, we provide an example to support our main theorem. And also, we prove the existence of best proximity point for the sum of Geraghty-contraction and continuous map.

Abstract:In the present paper, we consider inexact proximal point algorithms for finding singular points of multivalued vector fields on Hadamard manifolds. The rate of convergence is shown to be linear under the mild assumption of metric subregularity. Furthermore, if the sequence of parameters associated with the iterative scheme converges to 0, then the convergence rate is superlinear. At the same time, the finite termination of the inexact proximal point algorithm is also provided under a weak sharp minima-like condition. Applications to optimization problems are provided. Some of our results are new even in Euclidean spaces, while others improve and/or extend some known results in Euclidean spaces. As a matter of fact, in the case of exact proximal point algorithm, our results improve the corresponding results in [G. C. Bento and J. X. Cruz Neto, Opttm., 63 (2014), pp. 1281-1288]. Finally, several examples are provided to illustrate that our results are applicable while the corresponding results in the Hilbert space setting are not.

Abstract:We show that the recent relaxed-inertial proximal point algorithm due to Attouch and Cabot remains convergent when the function to be minimized is not convex, being only endowed with certain generalized convexity properties. Numerical experiments showcase the improvements brought by the relaxation and inertia features to the standard proximal point method in this setting, too.

Moreover, we provide an example to show the usability of the obtained results. To broaden the scope of this research area, we leverage our best proximity point results to demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of solutions for differential equations (equation of motion) and also for fractional differential equations.

Abstract:In this manuscript, for the purpose of investigating the coincidence best proximity point, best proximity point, and fixed point results via alternating distance φ, we discuss some multivalued (φ−Fτ)CP and (φ−Fτ)BP−proximal contractions in the context of rectangular metric spaces. To ascertain the coincidence best proximity point, best proximity point, and the fixed point for single-valued mappings, we reduce these findings using (Fτ)CP and (Fτ)BP−proximal contractions. To make our work more understandable, examples of both single- and multivalued mappings are provided. These examples support our core findings, which rely on coincidence points, as well as the corollaries that address fixed point conclusions. In the final phase of our study, we use the obtained results to verify that a solution to a Fredholm integral equation exists. This application highlights the theoretical framework we built throughout our study.

Abstract:We propose a relaxed-inertial proximal point algorithm for solving equilibrium problems involving bifunctions which satisfy in the second variable a generalized convexity notion called strong quasiconvexity, introduced by Polyak (Sov Math Dokl 7:72–75, 1966). The method is suitable for solving mixed variational inequalities and inverse mixed variational inequalities involving strongly quasiconvex functions, as these can be written as special cases of equilibrium problems. Numerical experiments where the performance of the proposed algorithm outperforms one of the standard proximal point methods are provided, too.

Abstract:In this paper, we first review some important definitions and notions related to best proximity point theory by considering the lack of symmetry property of quasi metric. Then, we introduce a new notion of BG -multivalued contraction mappings. Then, a best proximity point result is obtained via Q -function on quasi metric. Also, we present a noteworthy illustrative example to show the effect of our results. Finally, we give an existence and uniqueness result for the solution of nonlinear integral equations via our result.

Abstract:Let A be a nonempty closed subset (resp. nonempty bounded closed subset) of a metric space (X,d) and x∈X∖A. The nearest point problem (resp. the farthest point problem) w.r.t. x considered here is to find a point a0∈A such that d(x,a0)=inf{d(x,a):a∈A} (resp. d(x,a0)=sup{d(x,a):a∈A}). We study the well posedness of nearest point problems and farthest point problems in geodesic spaces. We show that if X is a space of curvature bounded below then the complement of the set of all points x∈X for which the nearest point problem (resp. the farthest point problem) w.r.t. x is well posed is σ-porous in X∖A. Our results extend and/or improve some recent results about proximinality in geodesic spaces as well as the corresponding ones previously obtained in uniformly convex Banach spaces. In particular, the result regarding the nearest point problem answers affirmatively an open problem proposed by Kaewcharoen and Kirk [A. Kaewcharoen, W.A. Kirk, Proximinality in geodesic spaces, Abstr. Appl. Anal. 2006 (2006) 1–10].
