Abstract:The aim of steganography is to conceal the very existence of hidden communication, so its demand on invisibility is serious. However there are not any corresponding perception evaluation methods. Most researchers still use Peak-Signal-to-Noise Rate (PSNR) for their perception evaluation, while ignoring the speciality of steganography. In this paper, we present an objective method of perception evaluation, which based on both characteristics of steganography and human visual systems (HVS). Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method is superior to PSNR, which is consistent with HVS and can effectively evaluate the performance of steganographic algorithm.

Abstract:Due to the lack of the integrated knowledge of covertext,the security and capacity of steganography method using multimedia information can't be observably improved.According to the difference of function between digital watermarking and steganography and the particularity of security and capacity in steganography,the character of covertext is proposed.Using bridge as covertext and combined with substitution cipher,a secure steganography method is presented.

Abstract:Network steganography has been a well-known covert data channeling method for over three decades. The basic set of techniques and implementation tools have not changed significantly since their introduction in the early 1980's. In this paper, we review the predominant methods of classical network steganography, describing the detailed operations and resultant challenges involved in embedding data in the network transport domain. We also consider the various cyber threat vectors of network steganography and point out the major differences between classical network steganography and the widely known end-point multimedia embedding techniques, which focus exclusively on static data modification for data hiding. We then challenge the security community by introducing an entirely new network dat hiding methodology, which we refer to as real-time network data steganography. Finally we provide the groundwork for this fundamental change of covert network data embedding by forming a basic framework for real-time network data operations that will open the path for even further advances in computer network security.

Abstract:Steganography is the art and science of hidden (or covered) communication. In digital steganography, the bits of image, video, audio and text files are tweaked to represent the information to hide. This article covers the current methods for hiding information in images, alongside steganalysis methods that aim to detect the presence of steganography. By reviewing 456 references, this article discusses the different approaches that can be taken toward steganography and its much less widely studied counterpart. Currently in research older steganography approaches are more widely used than newer methods even though these show greater potential. New methods do have flaws; therefore, more research is needed to make these practically applicable. For steganalysis one of the greatest challenges is the generalisability. Often one scheme can detect the presence of one specific hiding method. More research is needed to combine current schemes and/or create new generalisable schemes. To allow readers to compare results between different papers in our work, performance indications of all steganalysis methods are outlined and a comparison of performance is included. This comparison is given using ‘topological sorting’ graphs, which compares detection results from all papers (as stated in the papers themselves) on different steganographic schemes.

Abstract:Steganography is the art of concealing information in a cover media in such a way that the presence of the information is unknown. Digital image steganography accomplishes the potential for protected communication that is crucial in most of the applications nowadays. Steganography has several beneficial applications. It has been driven to the frontrunner of present security systems by the amazing development in computational power, the rise in security consciousness. The main challenge in proposing a steganographic technique is to maintain a suitable balance among higher embedding capacity, imperceptibility, and security that separate it from correlated systems like cryptography and watermarking. This article offers an extensive state-of-the-art review and analysis of some recent steganographic techniques. Furthermore, we have discussed popular steganography tools in detail. Challenges in the recent deep learning based steganographic techniques have been addressed. To explore the domain, the article concludes with mentioning some future research directions.

Abstract:The amount of data exchanged via the Internet is increasing nowadays. Hence, data security is termed as a serious issue while communication of data is processed over the Internet. Everyone needs their data to be safe during the process of communication. Steganography is the process of hiding a message, audio, image, or video by embedding it into another image, audio, message, or video. It is employed to protect secret data from malicious attacks. This paper presents a categorization of the steganography based on technical and non-technical steganography and also categorized based on its domain. Issues related to steganography are quality of stego images, payload capacity, mean square error, structural similarity (SSIM), Image Fidelity (IF), and Normalized Cross-Correlation (NCC) and robustness. Researchers have already done commendable research in the area of image steganography. Still, it is important to feature the upsides and downsides of the current systems of steganography. The objective of the paper is to examine and scrutinize the different algorithms of steganography based on parameters like PSNR, MSE, and Robustness. Based on the analysis of these parameters and all the issues, this paper concludes with recommendations for producing high-quality stego images, high-payload capacity, and robust techniques of steganography.

Abstract:Steganography is the art of hiding information in ways that prevent the detection of hidden messages. It includes a vast array of secret communications methods that conceal the message's very existence. These methods include invisible inks, microdots, character arrangement, digital signatures, covert channels, and spread spectrum communications. Steganography and cryptography are cousins in the spycraft family: cryptography scrambles a message so it cannot be understood while steganography hides the message so it cannot be seen. In this article the authors discuss image files and how to hide information in them, and discuss results obtained from evaluating available steganographic software. They argue that steganography by itself does not ensure secrecy, but neither does simple encryption. If these methods are combined, however, stronger encryption methods result. If an encrypted message is intercepted, the interceptor knows the text is an encrypted message. But with steganography, the interceptor may not know that a hidden message even exists. Abstract:Steganography and steganalysis are the prominent research fields in information hiding paradigm. Steganography is the science of invisible communication while steganalysis is the detection of steganography. Steganography means “covered writing” that hides the existence of the message itself. Digital steganography provides potential for private and secure communication that has become the necessity of most of the applications in today’s world. Various multimedia carriers such as audio, text, video, image can act as cover media to carry secret information. In this paper, we have focused only on image steganography. This article provides a review of fundamental concepts, evaluation measures and security aspects of steganography system, various spatial and transform domain embedding schemes. In addition, image quality metrics that can be used for evaluation of stego images and cover selection measures that provide additional security to embedding scheme are also highlighted. Current research trends and directions to improve on existing methods are suggested.

Abstract:With the enhancement of people's security awareness, transmitting secret information securely has gradually become a demand for the public. Steganography is a technology of representing secret information within another carrier, aiming at transmitting secret information without causing suspicion. Most of the traditional steganographic algorithms hide secret information by modifying the statistical characteristics, which will leave traces to the carriers. Although these modifications are too tiny to be distinguished by human eyes, they can be detected by steganalysis algorithms. Differently, coverless steganography, also written as steganography without embedding, accomplish the process of information hiding by constructing the relationship between secret information and carriers. Due to no modification to the carriers, all of the steganalysis algorithms are expired. In this paper, more than 90 papers are included to provide a review in coverless steganographic algorithms, covering the major development process of coverless image and video steganographic algorithms. The main contribution of the existing methods is summarized. Besides, the current general issues of capacity, robustness, and security are discussed adequately for both image and video algorithms. Especially, the security of coverless steganography is discussed for the first time from theoretical analysis to actual investigation in this review.

Abstract:Steganography is the art of concealing a secret message within an appropriate-multimedia carrier such as images, audio, video files, and even network packets. Steganographic techniques have been used since ancient times to hide the message from third-parties deemed to be enemies. On one hand, Steganography is a useful technique that has been applied in various useful applications. On the other hand, however, the same technique has been applied and used for the wrong purposes by people who have ill intentions. The increase in computational power and increase in security-awareness over the past few years have propelled the application of steganography in computational security-techniques. Being robust, undetectable, and having a good capacity of hidden-data, steganography has been preferred for hiding data than watermarking and cryptographic-techniques. This paper clarifies the application of steganography on different multimedia-carriers by using various potential tools, methods, and principles to either apply or detect steganography techniques.

Abstract:This paper identifies new class of network steganography methods that utilize mechanisms to handle oversized packets in IP networks: IP fragmentation, PMTUD (Path MTU Discovery) and PLPMTUD (Packetization Layer Path MTU Discovery). In particular, we propose two new steganographic methods and two extensions of existing ones. We show how IP fragmentation simplifies utilizing steganographic methods which requires transmitter-receiver synchronization. We present how mentioned mechanisms can be used to enable hidden communication for both versions of IP protocol: 4 and 6. Also the detection of the proposed methods is enclosed in this paper.

Abstract:A brief survey of some representative techniques of steganography and steganalysis is presented. Various methods developed in the authors’ laboratory are introduced, including symmetric LSB embedding, secure steganography in JPEG, palette, and uncompressed color images, histogram-based analysis and least histogram abnormality steganography, multiple-base notational system based embedding, stego-encoding integrated with error correction, etc . Some of the proposed approaches provide overall improvement, while others offer alternatives to existing techniques with advantage in certain aspects. Data hiding in text using the typesetting tool TeX is also introduced, with a brief description of a recently developed technique. Current research topics and the future plan are outlined. The discussion is focused mainly on steganography/steganalysis in still images.

Abstract:The need to protect sensitive information privacy duringinformation exchange over the internet/intranet has led towider adoption of cryptography and steganography. The cryptography approaches convert the information into an unreadable format however draws the attention of cryptanalyst owing to the uncommon random nature flow of the bytes when viewing the flowing structured bytes on a computer. While steganography, in contrast, conceals the very existence of covert communication using digital media. Although any digital media (text, image, video, audio) can covey the sensitive information, the media with higher redundant bits are more favorable for embedding the sensitive information without distorting the media. Digital images are majorly used in conveying sensitive information compared to others owing to their higher rate of tolerating distortions, highly available, smaller sizes with high redundant bits. However, the need for maximizing the redundancy bits for the optimum embedding of secret information has been a paramount issue due to the imperceptibility prerequisite which deteriorates with an increase in payload thus, resulting in a tradeoff. This has limited steganography to only applications with lower payload requirements, thus limiting the adoption for wider deployment. This paper critically analyzes the current steganographic techniques, recent trends, and challenges.

Abstract:Based on the three-layer model theory for steganography communication system, this paper designs a new steganography transmission protocol, to achieve a more effective frame structure, more reliable transmitting mechanism. Both text message dialogue and file transmission communication based on the proposed method are reliable while the performance is also corresponding improvement. The experimental results has proved theoretical prediction that the proposed protocol is able to achieve reliable and efficient steganography on VoIP network. Abstract:The art and science of using digital images for secret communication is known as image steganography. This paper presents a background on key concepts behind it. A representation of steganography area is graphically and mathematically shown. The origin and history of this area, its important properties, and major applications are outlined. An introduction to steganalysis is provided. Distinctions between steganography, cryptography, and watermarking in terms of technique and intent are briefly discussed. Details of the way images are represented are outlined. Benefits and drawbacks of steganography domains are highlighted. Common approaches used for embedding messages into images are discussed in some detail. Methods used for embedding messages into images are also explored. Current steganography tools are highlighted. A demonstration of how secret information is embedded into an image through the use of available steganographic tools is shown. Comparisons between different image steganography algorithms are also provided.

Abstract:Network steganography conceals the transfer of sensitive information within unobtrusive data in computer networks. So-called micro protocols are communication protocols placed within the payload of a network steganographic transfer. They enrich this transfer with features such as reliability, dynamic overlay routing, or performance optimization --- just to mention a few. We present different design approaches for the embedding of hidden channels with micro protocols in digitized audio signals under consideration of different requirements. On the basis of experimental results, our design approaches are compared, and introduced into a protocol engineering approach for micro protocols.

Abstract:Steganography is the task of concealing a message within a medium such that the presence of the hidden message cannot be detected. Beyond the standard scope of private-key steganography, steganography is also potentially interesting from other perspectives; for example, the prospect of steganographic parallels to components in public-key cryptography is particularly interesting. In this project, I begin with an exploration of public-key steganography, and I continue by condensing existing work into a unifying design paradigm that (a) admits provably secret public- and private-key constructions and (b) provides for a conceptual decoupling of channel considerations and steganographic goals, ultimately implying both universal constructions and constructions with channel-specific optimizations. This work is by-and-large a survey of applications of this paradigm: specifically, I use the framework to achieve provably secure distributed steganography, obtain new public-key steganographic constructions using alternative assumptions, and give discussion of channel-specific optimizations allowed by cryptography as a channel and natural language channels and challenges facing practical deployment of steganographic systems at scale.

Practical Data Hiding in TCP/IP

Abstract:This work relates the areas of steganography, network protocols and security for practical data hiding in communication networks employing TCP/IP. Two approaches are proposed based on packet header manipulation and packet ordering within the IPSec framework. For the former the Internet protocol IPv4 header is analyzed to identify covert channels by exploiting redundancy and multiple interpretations of protocol strategies; by passing supplementary information through IPv4 headers we demonstrate how security mechanisms can be enhanced in routers, firewalls, and for services such as authentication, audit and logging without considerable additions to software or hardware. For the latter approach, we show the use of packet sorting for steganographic embedding with IPSec can allow for enhanced network security.
