Abstract:We consider entire solutions $u$ of the equations describing the stationary flow of a generalized Newtonian fluid in 2D concentrating on the question, if a Liouville-type result holds in the sense that the boundedness of $u$ implies its constancy. A positive answer is true for $p$-fluids in the case $p>1$ (including the classical Navier-Stokes system for the choice $p=2$), and recently we established this Liouville property for the Prandtl-Eyring fluid model, for which the dissipative potential has nearly linear growth. Here we finally discuss the case of perfectly plastic fluids whose flow is governed by a von Mises-type stress-strain relation formally corresponding to the case $p=1$. it turns out that, for dissipative potentials of linear growth, the condition of $\mu$-ellipticity with exponent $\mu<2$ is sufficient for proving the Liouville theorem.

Abstract:Let N be a compact Riemannian manifold. A quasi-harmonic sphere on N is a harmonic maps from (R-m, e(-vertical bar x vertical bar 2/2(m-2))ds(0)(2)) to N (m >= 3) with finite energy ([LnW]). Here ds(0)(2) is the Euclidean metric in R-m. Such maps arise from the blow-up analysis of the heat flow at a singular point. In this paper, we prove some kinds of Liouville theorems for the quasi-harmonic spheres. It is clear that the Liouville theorems imply the existence of the heat flow to the target N. We also derive gradient estimates and Liouville theorems for positive quasi-harmonic functions.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the Liouville-type theorems for axisymmetric solutions to steady Navier-Stokes system in a layer domain. The both cases for the flows supplemented with no-slip boundary and Navier boundary conditions are studied. If the width of the outlet grows at a rate less than $R^{\frac{1}{2}}$, any bounded solution is proved to be trivial. Meanwhile, if the width of the outlet grows at a rate less than $R^{\frac{4}{5}}$, every D-solution is proved to be trivial. The key idea of the proof is to establish a Saint-Venant type estimate that characterizes the growth of Dirichlet integral of nontrivial solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe several stationary conditions on weak solutions to the inhomogeneous Landau-Lifshitz equation, which ensure the partial regularity. For certain class of proper stationary weak solutions, a compactness result of the solutions, a finite Hausdorff measure result of the t -slice energy concentration sets and an asymptotic limit result of the Radon measures are proved. We also present a subtle rectifiability result for the energy concentration set of certain sequence of strong stationary weak solutions.

Abstract:We present a symmetry result regarding stationary solutions of the 2D Euler equations in a disk. We prove that in a disk, a steady flow with only one stagnation point and tangential boundary conditions is a circular flow, which confirms a conjecture proposed by F. Hamel and N. Nadirashvili in [J. Eur. Math. Soc., 25 (2023), no. 1, 323-368]. The key ingredient of the proof is to use `local' symmetry properties for the non-negative solutions of semi-linear elliptic equations with a continuous nonlinearity in a ball, which can be established by a rearrangement technique called continuous Steiner symmetrization.

Abstract:A fundamental theorem of Liouville asserts that positive entire harmonic functions in Euclidean spaces must be constant. A remarkable Liouville-type theorem of Caffarelli-Gidas-Spruck states that positive entire solutions of $-\Delta u=u^{ {(n+2)}/{(n-2)} }$, $n\ge 3$, are unique modulo Möbius transformations. Far-reaching extensions were established for general fully nonlinear conformally invariant equations through the works of Chang-Gursky-Yang, Li-Li, Li, and Viaclovsky. In this paper, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of such Liouville-type theorems. This leads to necessary and sufficient conditions for local gradient estimates of solutions to hold, assuming a one-sided bound on the solutions, for a wide class of fully nonlinear elliptic equations involving Schouten tensors. A pivotal advancement in proving these Liouville-type theorems is our enhanced understanding of solutions to such equations near isolated singularities. In particular, we utilize earlier results of Caffarelli-Li-Nirenberg on lower- and upper-conical singularities. For general conformally invariant fully nonlinear elliptic equations, we prove that a viscosity super- (sub-)solution can be extended across an isolated singularity if and only if it is a lower- (upper-)conical singularity. We also provide necessary and sufficient conditions for lower- (upper-)conical behavior of a function near isolated singularities in terms of its conformal Hessian. As an application of our Liouville theorems and local gradient estimates, we establish new existence and compactness results for conformal metrics on a closed Riemannian manifold with prescribed symmetric functions of the Schouten (Ricci) tensor, allowing the scalar curvature of the conformal metrics to have varying signs.

Abstract:In this paper, the Liouville-type theorems for the steady Navier-Stokes system are investigated. First, we prove that any bounded smooth helically symmetric solution in $\mathbb{R}^3$ must be a constant vector. Second, for steady Navier-Stokes system in a slab supplemented with Navier boundary conditions, we prove that any bounded smooth solution must be zero if either the swirl or radial velocity is axisymmetric, or $ru^{r}$ decays to zero as $r$ tends to infinity. Finally, when the velocity is not big in $L^{\infty}$-space, the general three-dimensional steady Navier-Stokes flow in a slab with the Navier boundary conditions must be a Poiseuille type flow. Abstract: Liouville-type theorems for the steady incompressible Navier-Stokes system are investigated for solutions in a three-dimensional slab with either no-slip boundary conditions or periodic boundary conditions. When the no-slip boundary conditions are prescribed, we prove that any bounded solution is trivial if it is axisymmetric or $ru^r$ is bounded, and that general three-dimensional solutions must be Poiseuille flows when the velocity is not big in $L^\infty$ space. When the periodic boundary conditions are imposed on the slab boundaries, we prove that the bounded solutions must be constant vectors if either the swirl or radial velocity is independent of the angular variable, or $ru^r$ decays to zero as $r$ tends to infinity. The proofs are based on the fundamental structure of the equations and energy estimates. The key technique is to establish a Saint-Venant type estimate that characterizes the growth of Dirichlet integral of nontrivial solutions.

Abstract: In this paper, we study the Liouville--type theorems for three--dimensional stationary incompressible MHD and Hall--MHD systems in a slab with periodic boundary condition. We show that, under the assumptions that $(u^\theta,b^\theta)$ or $(u^r,b^r)$ is axisymmetric, or $(ru^r,rb^r)$ is bounded, any smooth bounded solution to the MHD or Hall--MHD system with local Dirichlet integral growing as an arbitrary power function must be constant. This hugely improves the result of \cite[Theorem 1.2]{pan2021Liouville}, where the Dirichlet integral of $\mathbf{u}$ is assumed to be finite. Motivated by \cite[Bang--Gui--Wang--Xie, 2022, {\it arXiv:2205.13259}]{bang2022Liouvilletype}, our proof relies on establishing Saint--Venant's estimates associated with our problem, and the result in the current paper extends that for stationary Navier--Stokes equations shown by \cite{bang2022Liouvilletype} to MHD and Hall--MHD equations. To achieve this, more intricate estimates are needed to handle the terms involving $\mathbf{b}$ properly.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the Liouville property for ancient solutions of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In 2D and the 3D axially symmetric case without swirl, we prove sharp Liouville theorems for smooth ancient mild solutions: velocity fields $v$ are constants if vorticity fields satisfy certain condition and $v$ are sublinear with respect to spatial variables, and we also give counterexamples when $v$ are linear with respect to spatial variables. The condition which vorticity fields need to satisfy is $\lim\limits_{|x|\rightarrow +\infty}|w(x,t)|=0$ and $\lim\limits_{r\rightarrow +\infty}\frac{|w|}{\sqrt{x_1^2+x_2^2}}=0$ uniformly for all $t\in(-\infty,0)$ in 2D and 3D axially symmetric case without swirl, respectively. In the case when solutions are axially symmetric with nontrivial swirl, we prove that if $\Gamma=rv_\theta\in L^\infty_tL^p_x(\mathbb{R}^3\times(-\infty,0))$ where $1\leq p<\infty$, then bounded ancient mild solutions are constants.

On a classification of steady solutions to two-dimensional Euler equations

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a classification of steady solutions to two-dimensional incompressible Euler equations in terms of the set of flow angles. The first main result asserts that the set of flow angles of any bounded steady flow in the whole plane must be the whole circle unless the flow is a parallel shear flow. In an infinitely long horizontal strip or the upper half-plane supplemented with slip boundary conditions, besides the two types of flows appeared in the whole space case, there exists an additional class of steady flows for which the set of flow angles is either the upper or lower closed semicircles. This type of flows is proved to be the class of non-shear flows that have the least total curvature. As consequences, we obtain Liouville-type theorems for two-dimensional semilinear elliptic equations with only bounded and measurable nonlinearity, and the structural stability of shear flows whose all stagnation points are not inflection points, including Poiseuille flow as a special case. Our proof relies on the analysis of some quantities related to the curvature of the streamlines.
