Abstract:In Homotopy Type Theory, few constructions have proved as troublesome as the smash product. While its definition is just as direct as in classical mathematics, one quickly realises that in order to define and reason about functions over iterations of it, one has to verify an exponentially growing number of coherences. This has led to crucial results concerning smash products remaining open. One particularly important such result is the fact that smash products form a (1-coherent) symmetric monoidal product on the universe of pointed types. This fact was used, without a complete proof, by e.g. Brunerie in his PhD thesis to construct the cup product on integral cohomology and is, more generally, a fundamental result in traditional algebraic topology. In this paper, we salvage the situation by introducing a simple informal heuristic for reasoning about functions defined over iterated smash products. We then use the heuristic to verify e.g. the hexagon and pentagon identities, thereby obtaining a proof of symmetric monoidality. We also provide a formal statement of the heuristic in terms of an induction principle concerning the construction of homotopies of functions defined over iterated smash products. The key results presented here have been formalised in the proof assistant Cubical Agda.

Smashing Localizations in Equivariant Stable Homotopy

Abstract:We study how smashing Bousfield localizations behave under various equivariant functors. We show that the analogs of the smash product and chromatic convergence theorems for the Real Johnson-Wilson theories $E_{\mathbb{R}}(n)$ hold only after Borel completion. We establish analogous results for the $C_{2^n}$-equivariant Johnson-Wilson theories constructed by Beaudry, Hill, Shi, and Zeng. We show that induced localizations upgrade the available norms for an $N_\infty$-algebra, and we determine which new norms appear. Finally, we explore generalizations of our results on smashing localizations in the context of a quasi-Galois extension of $E_\infty$-rings.

Abstract:In Artin algebra representation theory there is an important result which states that when the order of G is invertible in Λ then gl.dim(ΛG)=gl.dim(Λ) . With the development of Hopf algebra theory, this result is generalized to smash product algebra. As known, weak Hopf algebra is an important generalization of Hopf algebra. In this paper we give the more general result, that is the relation of homological dimension between an algebra A and weak smash product algebra A#H , where H is a finite dimensional weak Hopf algebra over a field k and A is an H -module algebra.

Abstract:If $f : S' \to S$ is a finite locally free morphism of schemes, we construct a symmetric monoidal "norm" functor $f_\otimes : \mathcal{H}_{\bullet}(S')\to \mathcal{H}_{\bullet}(S)$, where $\mathcal{H}_\bullet(S)$ is the pointed unstable motivic homotopy category over $S$. If $f$ is finite étale, we show that it stabilizes to a functor $f_\otimes : \mathcal{S}\mathcal{H}(S') \to \mathcal{S}\mathcal{H}(S)$, where $\mathcal{S}\mathcal{H}(S)$ is the $\mathbb{P}^1$-stable motivic homotopy category over $S$. Using these norm functors, we define the notion of a normed motivic spectrum, which is an enhancement of a motivic $E_\infty$-ring spectrum. The main content of this text is a detailed study of the norm functors and of normed motivic spectra, and the construction of examples. In particular: we investigate the interaction of norms with Grothendieck's Galois theory, with Betti realization, and with Voevodsky's slice filtration; we prove that the norm functors categorify Rost's multiplicative transfers on Grothendieck-Witt rings; and we construct normed spectrum structures on the motivic cohomology spectrum $H\mathbb{Z}$, the homotopy $K$-theory spectrum $KGL$, and the algebraic cobordism spectrum $MGL$. The normed spectrum structure on $H\mathbb{Z}$ is a common refinement of Fulton and MacPherson's mutliplicative transfers on Chow groups and of Voevodsky's power operations in motivic cohomology.

Abstract:This paper attempts to demystify the notion of the smashing spectrum of a presentably symmetric monoidal stable $\infty$-category, which is a locale whose opens correspond to smashing localizations. It has been studied in tensor-triangular geometry in the compactly generated rigid case. Our main result states that the smashing spectrum functor is right adjoint to the spectral sheaves functor; it in particular gives an external definition using neither objects, ideals, nor localizations. This sheaves-spectrum adjunction informally means that the smashing spectrum gives the best approximation of a given $\infty$-category by $\infty$-categories of sheaves. We in fact prove the unstable version of this result by finding a correct unstable extension of smashing spectrum, which instead parameterizes smashing colocalizations. As an application, we give a categorical presentation of Clausen--Scholze's categorified locales.

Abstract:Let H = X boxed times(R) A denote an R-smash product of the two bialgebras X and A. We prove that (X, A) is a pair of matched bialgebras, if the R-smash product H has a braiding structure. When X is an associative algebra and A is a Hopf algebra, we investigate the global dimension and the weak dimension of the smash product H = X boxed times(R) A and show that lD(H) <= rD(A) + lD(X) and wD(H) <= wD(A) + wD(X). As an application, we get lD(H-4) = infinity for Sweedler's four dimensional Hopf algebra H-4. We also study the associativity of smash products and the relations between smash products and factorization for algebras.

Abstract:We want to study the smash product of pointed topological spaces, in an organic way and full generality, without relying on some 'convenient subcategory'. The n -ary smash product has a 'colax' form of associativity, which supplies a categorical framework for the properties of this operation and its connection with the function spaces. Various concrete computations of smash products are given, including a large class of cases where associativity fails. Lax and colax monoidal structures are unusual and interesting, in category theory. Some parts of this note will be obvious to a topologist and others to a categorist, in order to take into account both backgrounds.

Abstract:We use geometric fixed points to describe the homotopy theory of genuine equivariant commutative ring spectra after inverting the group order. The main innovation is the use of the extra structure provided by the Hill-Hopkins-Ravenel norms in the form of additional norm maps on geometric fixed point diagrams, which turns out to be computationally managable.

Abstract:We develop a new spectral sequence in order to calculate Hochschild homology of smash biproducts (also called twisted tensor products) of unital associative algebras $A\# B$ provided one of $A$ or $B$ has Hochschild dimension less than 2. We use this spectral sequence to calculate Hochschild homology of quantum tori, multiparametric quantum affine spaces, quantum complete intersections, quantum Weyl algebras, deformed completed Weyl algebras, and finally the algebra $M_q(2)$ of quantum $2\times 2$-matrices.

Abstract:Voevodsky has conjectured that numerical and smash equivalence coincide on a smooth projective variety. We prove the conjecture for one dimensional cycles on an arbitrary product of curves. As a consequence we get that numerically trivial 1-cycles on an abelian variety are smash nilpotent.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the ring #( D,B ) and obtain two very interesting results. First we prove in Theorem 3 that the category of rational left BU -modules is equivalent to both the category of #-rational left modules and the category of all ( B,D )-Hopf modules _B M^D D . Cai and Chen have proved this result in the case B = D = A . Secondly they have proved that if A has a nonzero left integral then A # A *rat is a dense subring of End k ( A ). We prove that #( A,A ) is a dense subring of End k ( Q ), where Q is a certain subspace of #( A,A ) under the condition that the antipode is bijective (see Theorem 18). This condition is weaker than the condition that A has a nonzero integral. It is well known the antipode is bijective in case A has a nonzero integral. Furthermore if A has nonzero left integral, Q can be chosen to be A (see Corollary 19) and #( A,A ) is both left and right primitive. Thus A # A *rat ⊆ #( A,A ) ≃ End k ( A ). Moreover we prove that the left singular ideal of the ring #( A,A ) is zero. A corollary of this is a criterion for A with nonzero left integral to be finite-dimensional, namely the ring #( A,A ) has a finite uniform dimension.
The Grothendieck algebras of certain smash product semisimple Hopf algebras

Abstract: Let $H$ be a semisimple Hopf algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbbm{k}$ of characteristic $p>\dim_{\mathbbm{k}}(H)^{1/2}$ and $p\nmid 2\dim_{\mathbbm{k}}(H)$. In this paper, we consider the smash product semisimple Hopf algebra $H\#\mathbbm{k}G$, where $G$ is a cyclic group of order $n:=2\dim_{\mathbbm{k}}(H)$. Using irreducible representations of $H$ and those of $\mathbbm{k}G$, we determine all non-isomorphic irreducible representations of $H\#\mathbbm{k}G$. There is a close relationship between the Grothendieck algebra $(G_0(H\#\mathbbm{k}G)\otimes_{\mathbb{Z}}\mathbbm{k},*)$ of $H\#\mathbbm{k}G$ and the Grothendieck algebra $(G_0(H)\otimes_{\mathbb{Z}}\mathbbm{k},*)$ of $H$. To establish this connection, we endow with a new multiplication operator $\star$ on $G_0(H)\otimes_{\mathbb{Z}}\mathbbm{k}$ and show that the Grothendieck algebra $(G_0(H\#\mathbbm{k}G)\otimes_{\mathbb{Z}}\mathbbm{k},\ast)$ is isomorphic to the direct sum of $(G_0(H)\otimes_{\mathbb{Z}}\mathbbm{k},*)^{\oplus\frac{n}{2}}$ and $(G_0(H)\otimes_{\mathbb{Z}}\mathbbm{k},\star)^{\oplus\frac{n}{2}}$.

Abstract:We develop a stable analogue to the theory of cosimplicial frames in model cagegories; this is used to enrich all homotopy categories of stable model categories over the usual stable homotopy category and to give a different description of the smash product of spectra which is compared with the known descriptions; in particular, the original smash product of Boardman is identified with the newer smash products coming from a symmetric monoidal model of the stable homotopy category.

The homological slice spectral sequence in motivic and Real bordism

Abstract:For a motivic spectrum $E\in \mathcal{SH}(k)$, let $\Gamma(E)$ denote the global sections spectrum, where $E$ is viewed as a sheaf of spectra on $\mathrm{Sm}_k$. Voevodsky's slice filtration determines a spectral sequence converging to the homotopy groups of $\Gamma(E)$. In this paper, we introduce a spectral sequence converging instead to the mod 2 homology of $\Gamma(E)$ and study the case $E=BPGL\langle m\rangle$ for $k=\mathbb R$ in detail. We show that this spectral sequence contains the $\mathcal{A}_*$-comodule algebra $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(m))^*$ as permanent cycles, and we determine a family of differentials interpolating between $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(0))^*$ and $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(m))^*$. Using this, we compute the spectral sequence completely for $m\le 3$. In the height 2 case, the Betti realization of $BPGL\langle 2\rangle$ is the $C_2$-spectrum $BP_{\mathbb R}\langle 2\rangle$, a form of which was shown by Hill and Meier to be an equivariant model for $\mathrm{tmf}_1(3)$. Our spectral sequence therefore gives a computation of the comodule algebra $H_*\mathrm{tmf}_0(3)$. As a consequence, we deduce a new ($2$-local) Wood-type splitting \[\mathrm{tmf}\wedge X\simeq \mathrm{tmf}_0(3)\] of $\mathrm{tmf}$-modules predicted by Davis and Mahowald, for $X$ a certain 10-cell complex.

On the slice spectral sequence for quotients of norms of Real bordism

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate equivariant quotients of the Real bordism spectrum's multiplicative norm $MU^{((C_{2^n}))}$ by permutation summands. These quotients are of interest because of their close relationship with higher real $K$-theories. We introduce new techniques for computing the equivariant homotopy groups of such quotients. As a new example, we examine the theories $BP^{((C_{2^n}))}\langle m,m\rangle$. These spectra serve as natural equivariant generalizations of connective integral Morava $K$-theories. We provide a complete computation of the $a_{\sigma}$-localized slice spectral sequence of $i^*_{C_{2^{n-1}}}BP^{((C_{2^n}))}\langle m,m\rangle$, where $\sigma$ is the real sign representation of $C_{2^{n-1}}$. To achieve this computation, we establish a correspondence between this localized slice spectral sequence and the $H\mathbb{F}_2$-based Adams spectral sequence in the category of $H\mathbb{F}_2 \wedge H\mathbb{F}_2$-modules. Furthermore, we provide a full computation of the $a_{\lambda}$-localized slice spectral sequence of the height-4 theory $BP^{((C_{4}))}\langle 2,2\rangle$. The $C_4$-slice spectral sequence can be entirely recovered from this computation.
