Abstract:Cyclic orbit codes are a family of constant dimension codes used for random network coding. We investigate the Plücker embedding of these codes and show how to efficiently compute the Grassmann coordinates of the code words.

Abstract:Cyclic orbit codes are constant dimension subspace codes that arise as the orbit of a cyclic subgroup of the general linear group acting on subspaces in the given ambient space. With the aid of the largest subfield over which the given subspace is a vector space, the cardinality of the orbit code can be determined, and estimates for its distance can be found. This subfield is closely related to the stabilizer of the generating subspace. Finally, with a linkage construction larger, and longer, constant dimension codes can be derived from cyclic orbit codes without compromising the distance.

Abstract:Let n be a positive integer with a factor k such that n≥3k. Let q be a prime power, and let Gq(n,k) be the set of all k-dimensional Fq-subspaces of the field Fqn. In this paper, we construct cyclic subspace codes in Gq(n,k) with minimum distance 2k−2 and size (⌈n2k⌉−1)⋅(qn−1)qkq−1. In the case n=3k, their sizes differ from the sphere-packing bound for subspace codes by a factor of 1q−1 asymptotically as k goes to infinity. Our construction makes use of variants of the Sidon spaces constructed by Roth et al. (2018) and analogous to the results they attained for the case n=2k. We also establish the existence of Sidon spaces of Gq(7k,2k), and thus we resolve part of the conjecture about the existence of cyclic subspace codes in Gq(n,k) with minimum distance 2k−2 and size qn−1q−1.

Abstract:{A cyclic subspace code is a union of the orbits of subspaces contained in it. In a recent paper, Gluesing-Luerssen et al. (Des. Codes Cryptogr. 89, 447-470, 2021) showed that the study of the distance distribution of a single orbit cyclic subspace code is equivalent to the study of its intersection distribution. In this paper we have proved that in the orbit of a subspace $U$ of $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ that has the stabilizer $\mathbb{F}_{q^t}^*(t \neq n)$, the number of codeword pairs $(U,\alpha U)$ such that $\dim(U\cap \alpha U)=i$ for any $i,~ 0\leq i < \dim(U)$, is a multiple of $q^t(q^t+1)$, if $\frac{n}{t}$ is an odd number. In the case of even $\frac{n}{t}$, if $U$ contains $\frac{q^{2tm}-1}{q^{2t}-1}~ (m\geq 0)$ distinct cyclic shifts of $\mathbb{F}_{q^{2t}}$, then the number of codeword pairs $(U,\alpha U)$ with intersection dimension $2tm$ is equal to $q^t+rq^t(q^t+1)$, for some non-negative integer $r$; and the number of codeword pairs $(U,\alpha U)$ with intersection dimension $i,~(i\neq 2tm)$ is a multiple of $q^t(q^t+1)$. Some examples have been given to illustrate the results presented in the paper.

Abstract:The determination of weight distribution of cyclic codes involves the evaluation of Gauss sums and exponential sums. Despite some cases where a neat expression is available, the computation is generally rather complicated. In this note, we determine the weight distribution of a class of reducible cyclic codes whose dual codes may have arbitrarily many zeros. This goal is achieved by building an unexpected connection between the corresponding exponential sums and the spectra of Hermitian forms graphs.

Abstract:Orbit codes are a family of codes employable for communications on a random linear network coding channel. The paper focuses on the classification of these codes. We start by classifying the conjugacy classes of cyclic subgroups of the general linear group. As a result, we are able to focus the study of cyclic orbit codes to a restricted family of them.

Abstract:Subspace codes have recently been used for error correction in random network coding. In this work, we focus on one-orbit cyclic subspace codes. If $S$ is an $\mathbb{F}_q$-subspace of $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$, then the one-orbit cyclic subspace code defined by $S$ is \[ \mathrm{Orb}(S)=\{\alpha S \colon \alpha \in \mathbb{F}_{q^n}^*\}, \]where $\alpha S=\lbrace \alpha s \colon s\in S\rbrace$ for any $\alpha\in \mathbb{F}_{q^n}^*$. Few classification results of subspace codes are known, therefore it is quite natural to initiate a classification of cyclic subspace codes, especially in the light of the recent classification of the isometries for cyclic subspace codes. We consider three-dimensional one-orbit cyclic subspace codes, which are divided into three families: the first one containing only $\mathrm{Orb}(\mathbb{F}_{q^3})$; the second one containing the optimum-distance codes; and the third one whose elements are codes with minimum distance $2$. We study inequivalent codes in the latter two families.

Abstract:The exceptional compact hermitian symmetric space EIII is the quotient E6/Spin(10)×Z4U(1) . We introduce the Plücker coordinates which give an embedding of EIII into CP26 as a projective subvariety. The subvariety is cut out by 27 Plücker relations. We show that, using Clifford algebra, one can solve this over-determined system of relations, giving local coordinate charts to the space.Our motivation is to understand EIII as the complex projective octonion plane (C⊗O)P2 , whose construction is somewhat scattered across the literature. We will see that the EIII has an atlas whose transition functions have clear octonion interpretations, apart from those covering a sub-variety X∞ of dimension 10. This subvariety is itself a hermitian symmetric space known as DIII, with no apparent octonion interpretation. We give detailed analysis of the geometry in the neighbourhood of X∞ .We further decompose X=EIII into F4 -orbits: X=Y0∪Y∞ , where Y0∼(OP2)C is an open F4 -orbit and is the complexification of OP2 , whereas Y∞ has co-dimension 1, thus EIII could be more appropriately denoted as (OP2)C ̅ . This decomposition appears in the classification of equivariant completion of homogeneous algebraic varieties by Ahiezer [Ahi83] .

Abstract:In this paper we characterize the orbit codes as geometrically uniform codes. This characterization is based on the description of all isometries over a projective geometry. In addition, the Abelian orbit codes are defined and a new construction of Abelian non-cyclic orbit codes is presented. In order to analyze their structures, the concept of geometrically uniform partitions have to be reinterpreted. As a consequence, a substantial reduction in the number of computations needed to obtain the minimum subspace distance of these codes is achieved and established. An application of orbit codes to multishot subspace codes obtained according to a multi-level construction is provided.

Abstract:A subspace of a finite field is called a Sidon space if the product of any two of its nonzero elements is unique up to a scalar multiplier from the base field. Sidon spaces, introduced by Roth et al. (IEEE Trans Inf Theory 64(6): 4412-4422, 2018), have a close connection with optimal full-length orbit codes. In this paper, we present two constructions of Sidon spaces. The union of Sidon spaces from the first construction yields cyclic subspace codes in $\mathcal{G}_{q}(n,k)$ with minimum distance $2k-2$ and size $r(\lceil \frac{n}{2rk} \rceil -1)((q^{k}-1)^{r}(q^{n}-1)+\frac{(q^{k}-1)^{r-1}(q^{n}-1)}{q-1})$, where $k|n$, $r\geq 2$ and $n\geq (2r+1)k$, $\mathcal{G}_{q}(n,k)$ is the set of all $k$-dimensional subspaces of $\mathbb{F}_{q}^{n}$. The union of Sidon spaces from the second construction gives cyclic subspace codes in $\mathcal{G}_{q}(n,k)$ with minimum distance $2k-2$ and size $\lfloor \frac{(r-1)(q^{k}-2)(q^{k}-1)^{r-1}(q^{n}-1)}{2}\rfloor$ where $n= 2rk$ and $r\geq 2$. Our cyclic subspace codes have larger sizes than those in the literature, in particular, in the case of $n=4k$, the size of our resulting code is within a factor of $\frac{1}{2}+o_{k}(1)$ of the sphere-packing bound as $k$ goes to infinity.

Cocycles of the space of long embeddings and BCR graphs with more than one loop

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to construct non-trivial cocycles of the space $Emb(\mathbb{R}^j, \mathbb{R}^{n})$ of long embeddings. We construct the cocycles by integral over configuration spaces, associated with Bott-Cattaneo-Rossi graphs with more than one loop. As an application, we give explicitly a non-trivial family of trivial long embeddings for odd $n,j$ with $n-j \geq 2$ and $j \geq 3$. This family (cycle) is constructed from a chord diagram on directed lines. The non-triviality is shown by cocycle-cycle paring, described by paring between graphs and chord diagrams.

Abstract:This article is about a decoding algorithm for error-correcting subspace codes. A version of this algorithm was previously described by Rosenthal, Silberstein and Trautmann. The decoding algorithm requires the code to be defined as the intersection of the Plücker embedding of the Grassmannian and an algebraic variety. We call such codes \emph{geometric subspace codes}. Complexity is substantially improved compared to the algorithm by Rosenthal, Silberstein and Trautmann and connections to finite geometry are given. The decoding algorithm is applied to Desarguesian spread codes, which are known to be defined as the intersection of the Plücker embedding of the Grassmannian with a linear space.

Abstract:In this article, we consider decoding Grassmann codes, linear codes associated to the Grassmannian and its embedding in a projective space. We look at the orbit structure of Grassmannian arising from the multiplicative group F q m * in G L m ( q ) . We project the corresponding Grassmann code onto these orbits to obtain a subcode of a q -ary Reed-Solomon code. We prove that some of these projections contain an information set of the parent Grassmann code. By improving the decoding capacity of Peterson's decoding algorithm for the projected subcodes, we prove that one can correct up to ⌊ ( d - 1 ) / 2 ⌋ errors for Grassmann code, where d is the minimum distance of Grassmann code.
On the Existence of Cyclic Lattice Codes

Abstract:A coding lattice $\Lambda_c$ and a shaping lattice $\Lambda_s$ forms a nested lattice code $\mathcal{C}$ if $\Lambda_s \subseteq \Lambda_c$. Under some conditions, $\mathcal{C}$ is a finite cyclic group formed by rectangular encoding. This paper presents the conditions for the existence of such $\mathcal{C}$ and provides some designs. These designs correspond to solutions to linear Diophantine equations so that a cyclic lattice code $\mathcal C$ of arbitrary codebook size $M$ can possess group isomorphism, which is an essential property for a nested lattice code to be applied in physical layer network relaying techniques such as compute and forward.

Abstract:Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes of column weight two, also called cycle codes, can be constructed based on connected simple graphs. In this paper, efficiently encodable cycle codes and modified Repeat-Accumulate codes based on Hamiltonian graphs with large girths are devised. Specifically, the Hamiltonian property of the graphs is exploited to obtain efficient encoder structures and a concise description for the Hamiltonian graph named LCF (Lederberg-Coxeter-Frucht) notation is used to reduce the complexity of the encoders, especially the storage requirement. Then, using the Hamiltonian property and the LCF notation, structured cycle codes with large girths and low encoding complexity are devised. Simulation results also reveal that the proposed structured codes exhibit better performance compared with other structured cycle codes.

Abstract:This paper constructs a class of lattices whose discrete analogues are variable-length non-linear codes. The well-known discrete analogue of lattices and linear codes inspires our approach. We next design a variable length binary non-linear code called automorphism orbit code from a finite abelian p -group of rank greater than 1, where p is a prime. For each finite abelian p -group, codewords of the automorphism orbit code are variable-length codewords called automorphism orbit codewords . The homomorphisms between groups determine homomorphism codes , whereas automorphism orbit codes are specified by partitions of a number, orbits of group action, homomorphisms and automorphisms of groups. For some groups G and H , we shall use elements of Hom(G,H) to create a cover relation for bit strings of codewords of an automorphism orbit code and formulate a lattice of variable length non-linear codes.

Abstract:The present paper is devoted to the study of the combinatorics of 216 maximal $C^3$ circular codes --- a particular type of structure arising in the analysis of genomic sequences. Their circularity property is believed to be intimately connected to the protection against the reading frame shift in the process of RNA translation. We present some new observations concerning the internal structure of circular codes, which give a way to construct all of them in a relatively simple manner.

Abstract:We completely characterize possible indices of quasi-cyclic subcodes in a cyclic code for a very broad class of cyclic codes. We present enumeration results for quasi-cyclic subcodes of a fixed index and show that the problem of enumeration is equivalent to enumeration of certain vector subspaces in finite fields. In particular, we present enumeration results for quasi-cyclic subcodes of the simplex code and duals of certain Bose--Chaudhuri--Hocquenqhem codes. Our results are based on the trace representation of cyclic codes.
