Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number and $F$ a totally real number field. For each prime $\mathfrak{p}$ of $F$ above $p$ we construct a Hecke operator $T_{\mathfrak{p}}$ acting on $(\text{mod}\,p^{m})$ Katz Hilbert modular classes which agrees with the classical Hecke operator at $\mathfrak{p}$ for global sections that lift to characteristic zero. Using these operators and the techniques of patching complexes of Calegari and Geraghty we prove that the Galois representations arising from torsion Hilbert modular classes of parallel weight $\mathbf{1}$ are unramified at $p$ when $[F:\mathbb{Q}]=2$ . Some partial and some conjectural results are obtained when $[F:\mathbb{Q}]>2$ .

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group, and let chi be a character of a reductive subgroup H of G. We construct chi-invariant linear functionals on certain cohomologically induced representations of G, and we show that these linear functionals do not vanish on the bottom layers. Applying this construction, we prove two Archimedean nonvanishing hypotheses which are vital to the arithmetic study of special values of certain L-functions via modular symbols.

Abstract:Let $\mathrm{F}$ be a local non-archimedean field of residue characteristic $p$ and $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$ an algebraic closure of a finite field of characteristic $\ell \neq p$. We extend the results of Lapid and Mínguez concerning $\square$-irreducible representations of inner forms of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathrm{F})$ to representations over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$. As applications, we compute the Godement-Jacquet $L$-factor for any smooth irreducible representation over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$ and show that the local factors of a representation agree with the ones of its $\mathrm{C}$-parameter defined by Kurinczuk and Matringe. Moreover, we reprove that the classification of irreducible representations via multisegments due to Vignéras and Mínguez-Sécherre is indeed exhaustive without using the classification of Ariki and Mathas of simple modules of Hecke algebras. Finally, we characterize the irreducible constituents of certain parabolically induced representations, as was already done by Zelevinsky over $\mathbb{C}$.

Abstract:Gouvêa-Mazur [GM] made a conjecture on the local constancy of slopes of modular forms when the weight varies $p$-adically. Since one may decompose the space of modular forms according to associated residual Galois representations, the Gouvêa-Mazur conjecture makes sense for each such component. We prove the localized Gouvêa-Mazur conjecture when the residual Galois representation is irreducible and its restriction to $\textrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$ is reducible and very generic.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a totally real field of degree $g$, and let $p$ be a prime number. We construct $g$ partial Hasse invariants on the characteristic $p$ fiber of the Pappas-Rapoport splitting model of the Hilbert modular variety for $F$ with level prime to $p$, extending the usual partial Hasse invariants defined over the Rapoport locus. In particular, when $p$ ramifies in $F$, we solve the problem of lack of partial Hasse invariants. Using the stratification induced by these generalized partial Hasse invariants on the splitting model, we prove in complete generality the existence of Galois pseudo-representations attached to Hecke eigenclasses of paritious weight occurring in the coherent cohomology of Hilbert modular varieties $\mathrm{mod}$ $p^m$, extending a previous result of M. Emerton and the authors which required $p$ to be unramified in $F$.

For an irreducible smooth F ̄ p \overline {\mathbf {F}}_p -representation π \pi of G G , and a weight σ \sigma of K K contained in π \pi , we prove that π \pi admits eigenvectors for the spherical Hecke algebra H ( K , σ ) \mathcal {H}(K, \sigma ) . Our approach is close to that of Barthel–Livné [Duke Math. J. 75 (1994), pp. 261–292] for G L 2 GL_2 . For G L n ( n ≥ 3 ) GL_n (n\geq 3) , we give a sketch of an essential case where the analogue of a crucial ingredient in loc.cit fails.

Abstract:In this paper, we point out connections between certain types of indecomposable representations of and generalizations of well-known orthogonal polynomials. Those representations take the form of infinite dimensional chains of weight or generalised weight spaces, for which the Cartan generator acts in a diagonal way or via Jordan blocks. The other generators of the Lie algebras act as raising and lowering operators but are now allowed to relate the different chains as well. In addition, we construct generating functions, we calculate the action of the Casimir invariant and present relations to systems of non-homogeneous second-order coupled differential equations. We present different properties as higher-order linear differential equations for building blocks taking the form of one variable polynomials. We also present insight into the zeroes and recurrence relations.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number, $K$ a finite unramified extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ and $\mathbb{F}$ a finite extension of $\mathbb{F}_p$. Using perfectoid spaces we associate to any finite-dimensional continuous representation $\overline{\rho}$ of ${\rm Gal}(\overline K/K)$ over $\mathbb{F}$ an étale $(\varphi,\mathcal{O}_K^\times)$-module $D_A^\otimes(\overline{\rho})$ over a completed localization $A$ of $\mathbb{F}[\![\mathcal{O}_K]\!]$. We conjecture that one can also associate an étale $(\varphi,\mathcal{O}_K^\times)$-module $D_A(\pi)$ to any smooth representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_2(K)$ occurring in some Hecke eigenspace of the mod $p$ cohomology of a Shimura curve, and that moreover $D_A(\pi)$ is isomorphic (up to twist) to $D_A^\otimes(\overline{\rho})$, where $\overline{\rho}$ is the underlying $2$-dimensional representation of ${\rm Gal}(\overline K/K)$. Using previous work of the same authors, we prove this conjecture when $\overline{\rho}$ is semi-simple and sufficiently generic.

Abstract:Groups with a non-cyclic Sylow $p$-subgroup have too many representations over a field of characteristic~$p$ to describe them fully. A~natural question arises, whether the world of representations coming from algebraic varieties with a group action is as vast as the realm of all modular representations. In this article, we explore the possible ``building blocks'' (the indecomposable direct summands) of cohomologies of smooth projective curves with a group action. We show that usually there are infinitely many such possible summands. To prove this, we study a family of $\mathbb Z/p \times \mathbb Z/p$-covers and describe the cohomologies of the members of this family completely.

Abstract:For every finite group $H$ and every finite $H$-module $A$, we determine the subgroup of negligible classes in $H^2(H,A)$, in the sense of Serre, over fields with enough roots of unity. As a consequence, we show that for every odd prime $p$, every integer $n\geq 3$, and every field $F$ containing a primitive $p$-th root of unity, there exists a continuous $n$-dimensional mod $p$ representation of the absolute Galois group of $F(x_1,\dots,x_p)$ which does not lift modulo $p^2$. This answers a question of Khare and Serre, and disproves a conjecture of Florence.

Abstract:Let $F/F^+$ be a CM field and let $\widetilde{v}$ be a finite unramified place of $F$ above the prime $p$. Let $\overline{r}: \mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/F)\rightarrow \mathrm{GL}_n(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ be a continuous representation which we assume to be modular for a unitary group over $F^+$ which is compact at all real places. We prove, under Taylor--Wiles hypotheses, that the smooth $\mathrm{GL}_n(F_{\widetilde{v}})$-action on the corresponding Hecke isotypical part of the mod-$p$ cohomology with infinite level above $\widetilde{v}|_{F^+}$ determines $\overline{r}|_{\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}_p/F_{\widetilde{v}})}$, when this latter restriction is Fontaine--Laffaille and has a suitably generic semisimplification.

Given a quadratic field extension $E/F$ and an irreducible $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_{\ell}$-representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n(E)$, we verify the Jacquet conjecture in the modular setting that if the Langlands parameter $\phi_\pi$ is irreducible and conjugate-self-dual, then $\pi$ is either $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$-distinguished or $(\mathrm{GL}_n(F),\omega_{E/F})$-distinguished (where $\omega_{E/F}$ is the quadratic character of $F^\times$ associated to the quadratic field extension $E/F$ by the local class field theory), but not both, which extends one result of Sécherre to the case $p=2$. We give another application of our lifting theorem for supercuspidal representations distinguished by a unitary involution, extending one result of Zou to $p=2$.

Abstract:We define a pro-$p$ Abelian sheaf on a modular curve of a fixed level $N \geq 5$ divisible by a prime number $p \neq 2$. Every $p$-adic representation of $\text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q})$ associated to an eigenform is obtained as a quotient of its étale cohomology. For any compact $\mathbb{Z}_p[[1 + N \mathbb{Z}_p]]$-algebra $\Lambda_1$ satisfying certain suitable conditions, we construct a representation of $\text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q})$ over $\Lambda_1$ associated to a $\Lambda_1$-adic cuspidal eigenform of finite slope as a scalar extension of a quotient of the étale cohomology.

Abstract:Colmez, Dospinescu and Niziol have shown that the only $p$-adic representations of $\rm{Gal}(\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$ appearing in the $p$-adic étale cohomology of the coverings of Drinfeld's half-plane are the $2$-dimensional cuspidal representations (i.e. potentially semi-stable, whose associated Weil-Deligne representation is irreducible) with Hodge-Tate weights $0$ and $1$ and their multiplicities are given by the $p$-adic Langlands correspondence. We generalise this result to arbitrary weights, by considering the $p$-adic étale cohomology with coefficients in the symmetric powers of the universal local system on Drinfeld's tower. A novelty is the appearance of potentially semistable $2$-dimensional non-cristabelian representations, with expected multiplicity. The key point is that the local systems we consider turn out to be particularly simple: they are "isotrivial opers" on a curve. We develop a recipe to compute the proétale cohomology of such a local system using the Hyodo-Kato cohomology of the curve and the de Rham complex of the flat filtered bundle associated to the local system.
