Abstract:A multivariate Gauss-Lucas theorem is proved, sharpening and generalizing previous results on this topic. The theorem is stated in terms of a seemingly new notion of convexity. Applications to multivariate stable polynomials are given.

Abstract:A new form of multivariable Lagrange inversion is given, with determinants occurring on both sides of the equality. These determinants are principal minors, for complementary subsets of row and column indices, of two determinants that arise singly in the best known forms of multivariable Lagrange inversion. A combinatorial proof is given by considering functional digraphs, in which one of the principal minors is interpreted as a Matrix Tree determinant, and the other by a form of Gessel-Viennot cancellation.

Abstract:The Cauchy’s formula of entire functions f:Ck→C is used to establish Markov-Bernstein type inequalities of multivariate polynomials with positive coeffeicients on the k-dimensional simplex Tk⊂Rk and on the cube [0,1]k. The main results generalize and improve those of G.G. Lorentz, etc. Some applications of these inequalities are also considered in polynomial constrained approximation.
An asymptotic refinement of the Gauss-Lucas Theorem for random polynomials with i.i.d. roots

Abstract:If $p:\mathbb{C} \to \mathbb{C}$ is a non-constant polynomial, the Gauss--Lucas theorem asserts that its critical points are contained in the convex hull of its roots. We consider the case when $p$ is a random polynomial of degree $n$ with roots chosen independently from a radially symmetric, compactly supported probably measure $\mu$ in the complex plane. We show that the largest (in magnitude) critical points are closely paired with the largest roots of $p$. This allows us to compute the asymptotic fluctuations of the largest critical points as the degree $n$ tends to infinity. We show that the limiting distribution of the fluctuations is described by either a Gaussian distribution or a heavy-tailed stable distribution, depending on the behavior of $\mu$ near the edge of its support. As a corollary, we obtain an asymptotic refinement to the Gauss--Lucas theorem for random polynomials.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a simple proof of a generalization of the Gauss-Lucas theorem. By using methods of D-companion matrix, we get the majorization relationship between the zeros of convex combinations of incomplete polynomials and an origin polynomial. Moreover, we prove that the set of all zeros of all convex combinations of incomplete polynomials coincides with the closed convex hull of zeros of the original polynomial. The location of zeros of convex combinations of incomplete polynomials is determined.

Abstract:We provide a new proof of the multivariate version of Christol's theorem about algebraic power series with coefficients in finite fields, as well as of its extension to perfect ground fields of positive characteristic obtained independently by Denef and Lipshitz, Sharif and Woodcok, and Harase. Our proof is elementary, effective, and allows for much sharper estimates. We discuss various applications of such estimates, in particular to a problem raised by Deligne concerning the algebraicity degree of reductions modulo $p$ of diagonals of multivariate algebraic power series with integer coefficients.

Abstract:It is known that the complex Grassmannian of $k$-dimensional subspaces can be identified with the set of projection matrices of rank $k$. It is also classically known that the convex hull of this set is the set of Hermitian matrices with eigenvalues between $0$ and $1$ and summing to $k$. We give a new proof of this fact. We also give an existence theorem for a certain combinatorial class of hypermatrices by a similar argument. This existence theorem can be rewritten into an existence theorem for a uniform weighted hypergraph with given weighted degree sequence.

Abstract:Using a result of Robertson \textit{[Proc. Edinburgh Math. Soc. (2), 1976]}, we introduce a notion of differentiation of maps on certain classes of unital commutative C*-algebras. We then derive C*-algebraic Gauss-Lucas theorem and formulate C*-algebraic Sendov's conjecture. We verify C*-algebraic Sendov's conjecture for polynomials of degree 2.

Intersection theoretic inequalities via Lorentzian polynomials

Abstract:We explore the applications of Lorentzian polynomials to the fields of algebraic geometry, analytic geometry and convex geometry. In particular, we establish a series of intersection theoretic inequalities, which we call rKT property, with respect to $m$-positive classes and Schur classes. We also study its convexity variants -- the geometric inequalities for $m$-convex functions on the sphere and convex bodies. Along the exploration, we prove that any finite subset on the closure of the cone generated by $m$-positive classes can be endowed with a polymatroid structure by a canonical numerical-dimension type function, extending our previous result for nef classes; and we prove Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for valuations of Schur type. We also establish various analogs of sumset estimates (Plünnecke-Ruzsa inequalities) from additive combinatorics in our contexts.

Multivariate CLT for critical points

Abstract:We prove a multivariate central limit theorem for the numbers of critical points above a level with all possible indexes of a non-necessarily isotropic Gaussian random field. In particular, we discuss the non-degeneracy of the limit variance-covariance matrix. We extend, to the non-isotropic framework, known results by Estrade \& Le{ó}n and Nicolaescu for the Euler characteristic of an excursion set and for the total number of critical points of Gaussian random fields. Furthermore, we deduce the almost sure convergence of the normalized (by its mean) number of critical points above a level with any given index and, in particular, of the Euler characteristic of an excursion set. Though we use the classical tools of Hermite expansions and Fourth Moment Theorem, our proof of the non-degeneracy of the limit variance-covariance matrix is completely new since we need to consider all chaotic terms.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a version of the classical result of Kowalski and Słodkowski that generalizes the famous Gleason-Kahane-$\dot{\rm Z}$elazko (GKZ) theorem by characterizing multiplicative linear functionals amongst all complex-valued functions on a Banach algebra. We first characterize maps on $\mathcal{A}$-valued polynomials of several variables that satisfy some conditions, motivated by the result of Kowalski and Słodkowski, as a composition of a multiplicative linear functional on $\mathcal{A}$ and a point evaluation on the polynomials, where $\mathcal{A}$ is a complex Banach algebra with identity. We then apply it to prove an analogue of Kowalski and Słodkowski's result on topological spaces of vector-valued functions of several variables. These results extend our previous work from \cite{jaikishan2024multiplicativity}; however, the techniques used differ from those used in \cite{jaikishan2024multiplicativity}. Furthermore, we characterize weighted composition operators between Hardy spaces over the polydisc amongst the continuous functions between them. Additionally, we register a partial but noteworthy success toward a multiplicative GKZ theorem for Hardy spaces.

Abstract:We generalize techniques by Coskun, Riedl, and Yeong, and obtain an almost optimal bound on the degree for the algebraic hyperbolicity of very general hypersurfaces in homogeneous varieties. As examples, we work out the cases of very general hypersurfaces in products of Grassmannians, orthogonal and symplectic Grassmannians, and flag varieties.

Abstract:Under suitable conditions on the range of the Gauss map of a complete submanifold of Euclidean space with parallel mean curvature, we construct a strongly subharmonic function and derive a-priori estimates for the harmonic Gauss map. The required conditions here are more general than in previous work and they therefore enable us to improve substantially previous results for the Lawson–Osseman problem concerning the regularity of minimal submanifolds in higher codimension and to derive Bernstein type results.

Abstract:We prove two multivariate -binomial identities conjectured by Bousseau, Brini and van Garrel [Geom. Topol. 28 (2024), 393-496, arXiv:2011.08830] which give generating series for Gromov-Witten invariants of two specific log Calabi-Yau surfaces. The key identity in all the proofs is Jackson's -analogue of the Pfaff-Saalschütz summation formula from the theory of basic hypergeometric series.

Abstract:We revisit certain localised variants of the Bennett-Carbery-Tao multilinear restriction theorem, recently proved by Bejenaru. We give a new proof of Bejenaru's theorem, relating the estimates to the theory of Kakeya-Brascamp-Lieb inequalities. Moreover, the new proof allows for a substantial generalisation, exploiting the full power of the Kakeya-Brascamp-Lieb theory.

Abstract:We investigate necessary as well as sufficient conditions under which the Laurent series coefficients $f_{\boldsymbol{n}}$ associated to a multivariate rational function satisfy Gauss congruences, that is $f_{\boldsymbol{m}p^r} \equiv f_{\boldsymbol{m}p^{r-1}}$ modulo $p^r$. For instance, we show that these congruences hold for certain determinants of logarithmic derivatives. As an application, we completely classify rational functions $P/Q$ satisfying the Gauss congruences in the case that $Q$ is linear in each variable.
