Abstract:Recently it was shown that if the matter congruence of a general relativistic perfect fluid flow in an almost FLRW universe is shear-free, then it must be either expansion or rotation-free. Here we generalize this result for a general f(R) theory of gravity and show there exist scenarios where this result can be avoided. This suggests that there are situations where linearized forth-order gravity shares properties with Newtonian theory not valid in General Relativity.

Abstract:We study a class of shear-free, homogeneous but anisotropic cosmological models with imperfect matter sources in the context of f(R) gravity. We show that the anisotropic stresses are related to the electric part of the Weyl tensor in such a way that they balance each other. We also show that within the class of orthogonal f(R) models, small perturbations of shear are damped, and that the electric part of the Weyl tensor and the anisotropic stress tensor decay with the expansion as well as the heat flux of the curvature fluid. Specializing in locally rotationally symmetric spacetimes in orthonormal frames, we examine the late-time behaviour of the de Sitter universe in $f(R)$ gravity. For the Starobinsky model of f(R), we study the evolutionary behavior of the Universe by numerically integrating the Friedmann equation, where the initial conditions for the expansion, acceleration and jerk parameters are taken from observational data.

Abstract:Integrability conditions arising from general irrotational fluid-flow considerations of a universe dominated by cosmic dark fluids will be investigated under special assumptions on the nature of the spacetime shear. Special emphasis will be placed on linearized perturbations of quasi-Newtonian and anti-Newtonian spacetimes, whereby the conditions for the existence and consistent evolution of such spacetimes in the presence of the Chaplygin gas fluid model will be derived and discussed.

Simulating Rotating Newtonian Universes

Abstract:We present the results of a novel type of numerical simulation that realizes a rotating Universe with a shear-free, rigid body rotation inspired by a Gödel-like metric. We run cosmological simulations of unperturbed glasses with various degrees of rotation in the Einstein-de Sitter and the $\Lambda$CDM cosmologies. To achieve this, we use the StePS N-body code capable of simulating the infinite Universe, overcoming the technical obstacles of classical toroidal (periodic) topologies that would otherwise prevent us from running such simulations. Results show a clear anisotropy between the polar and equatorial expansion rates with more than $1\%$ deviation from the isotropic case for maximal rotation without closed timeline curves within the horizon, $\omega_{0} \approx 10^{-3}$ Gyr$^{-1}$; a considerable effect in the era of precision cosmology.

We consider different models of this gravity to discuss the presence of symmetry generators together with conserved integrals using Nother Gauge symmetry scheme. In most of the cases, we obtain temporal and scaling symmetries that yield conservation of energy and linear momentum, respectively. In the absence of contracted Ricci and energy-momentum tensors, we obtain maximum symmetries but none of them correspond to any standard symmetry or conservation law. We formulate exact solutions and construct graphical analysis of standard cosmological parameters. We observe realistic nature of new models via squared speed of sound, viability conditions suggested by Dolgov-Kawasaki instability and state-finder parameters. We investigate the behavior of fractional densities and check the compatibility with Planck 2018 observational data. The new models are stable and viable preserving compatibility with $\Lambda$CDM and Chaplygin gas models. It is concluded that most of the solutions favor accelerated cosmic expansion.

Abstract:In this work, we study the evolution of an isotropic universe in an extended theory of gravity obtained geometrically by transforming the normal-gauge Lyra displacement vector field [Formula: see text] as a complex vectorial function depending on a dynamical scalar field [Formula: see text]. By using the latest observational data, we observe that for [Formula: see text] the universe starts accelerating at the critical scale factor [Formula: see text] which corresponds to a redshift of [Formula: see text]. Towards a new generalized space expansion dynamics applied to the rotation of galaxies and Tully Fisher law

Abstract:Up to now, the rotational velocities of galaxies are not clearly understood and the experimental Tully Fisher rule, linking the total galactic mass to the fourth power of the velocity, through an acceleration coefficient of about 10-10 m/s2 has not found a deep theoretical explanation. Tentative proposals (MOND theory of a modified Newton s law and extraneous dark matter) do not bring a definite clarification. We propose here a new approach to this problem, without exotic matter and using the classical Newton force. But we introduce a new additional universal acceleration, which could represent a universal expansion law valid at the scale level of a galaxy. We show that this hypothesis leads to a good description of the observed variations of the galactic transverse velocity. It can be considered as a consequence of the Scale Expansion Cosmos theory (SEC) introduced by J. Masreliez, but we postulate that the space expansion acceleration universally applies at any scale. We obtain a formal derivation of the Tully Fisher law, linking the constant galactic transverse velocity to its total mass, via the universal minimum acceleration. We derive a good estimate of the TF acceleration coefficient and show that expansion should be proportional to the square root of the local volumic mass density. Our conjecture is in fact a new dynamics principle which could be applied to many other physical problems at different scales. Applying it to the range of the solar planet system confirms the well known Kepler laws, at least as a valid approximation for the order of magnitude of the solar system.

Abstract:This research study is primarily focus on investigating an exact vacuum solution characterized by a negative cosmological constant, , within the framework of a modified gravity theory. Our specific focus is on a novel theory known as Ricci-inverse gravity. This vacuum solution is representative of an Anti-de Sitter (AdS) space, which, in general relativity, serves as a space‚Äďtime exhibiting properties akin to a time-machine. Significantly, we demonstrate that this AdS space‚Äďtime is a valid solution within the Ricci-inverse gravity theory as well. This outcome implies that Ricci-inverse gravity also allows the formation of closed time-like curves, analogous to what is observed in the context of general relativity. The investigation into Ricci-inverse gravity involves introducing the function f ( R , A ) into the Lagrangian of the system. We consider three distinct scenarios to explore the implications of different choices for the function. The first scenario involves selecting , the second one adopts , and the third scenario employs the function , where and serve as the coupling constants. In each of these scenarios, we derive the modified field equations and subsequently solve them under the assumption of vacuum as the matter-energy content. Notably, our results demonstrate that the cosmological constant undergoes modification based on the coupling constants in each case. Thus, in Ricci-inverse gravity, we establish that this modified Anti-de Sitter (AdS) space‚Äďtime also serves as a model for a time-machine.

On the convergence of cosmographic expansions in Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi models

Abstract:We study cosmographic expansions of the luminosity distance for a variety of Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi models which we specify inspired by local large-scale structures of the universe. We consider cosmographic expansions valid for general spacetimes and compare to the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) limit of the expansions as well as to its naive isotropic extrapolation to an inhomogeneous universe. The FLRW expansions are often poor near the observer but become better at higher redshifts, where the light rays have reached the FLRW background. In line with this we find that the effective Hubble, deceleration and jerk parameters of the general cosmographic expansion are often very different from the global CDM values, with deviations up to several orders of magnitude. By comparing with the naive isotropic extrapolation of the FLRW expansion, we assess that these large deviations are mainly due to gradients of the shear. Very close to the observer, the general cosmographic expansion is always best and becomes more precise when more expansion terms are included. However, we find that the convergence radius of the general cosmographic expansion is small for all studied models and observers and the general cosmographic expansion becomes poor for most of the studied observers already before a single LTB structure has been traversed. The small radius of convergence of the general cosmographic expansion has also been indicated by earlier work and may need careful attention before we can safely apply the general cosmographic expansion to real data.

Abstract:Recently, in a series of papers, we established the existence and found a general solution for the simultaneously rotating and twisting locally rotationally symmetric spacetimes in general relativity, which can model inhomogeneous and dynamic astrophysical bodies. However, these spacetimes necessarily require imperfect fluids with entropy flux. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate the existence of these spacetimes in generic f(R)-gravity models, where the entropy flux is generated purely by higher order curvature effects, while the standard matter still remains a perfect fluid. However, we transparently demonstrate here, that the symmetries of these spacetimes force the theory to be general relativity. This is a novel study that shows how the geometrical properties of a spacetime can be used to restrict the theories of gravity.

Universal accelerating cosmologies from 10d supergravity

Abstract:We study 4d Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker cosmologies obtained from time-dependent compactifications of Type IIA 10d supergravity on various classes of 6d manifolds (Calabi-Yau, Einstein, Einstein-Kähler). The cosmologies we present are universal in that they do not depend on the detailed features of the compactification manifold, but only on the properties which are common to all the manifolds belonging to that class. Once the equations of motion are rewritten as an appropriate dynamical system, the existence of solutions featuring a phase of accelerated expansion is made manifest. The fixed points of this dynamical system, as well as the trajectories on the boundary of the phase space, correspond to analytic solutions which we determine explicitly. Furthermore, some of the resulting cosmologies exhibit eternal or semi-eternal acceleration, whereas others allow for a parametric control on the number of e-foldings. At future infinity, one can achieve both large volume and weak string coupling. Moreover, we find several smooth accelerating cosmologies without Big Bang singularities: the universe is contracting in the cosmological past ($T<0$), expanding in the future ($T>0$), while in the vicinity of $T=0$ it becomes de Sitter in hyperbolic slicing. We also obtain several cosmologies featuring an infinite number of cycles of alternating periods of accelerated and decelerated expansions.

Abstract:We investigate the integrability conditions of a class of shear-free perfect-fluid cosmological models within the framework of anisotropic fluid sources, applying our results to f(R) dark energy models. Generalising earlier general relativistic results for time-like geodesics, we extend the potential and acceleration terms of the quasi-Newtonian formulation of integrable dust cosmological models about a linearized Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker background and derive the equations that describe their dynamical evolutions. We show that in general, models with an anisotropic fluid source are not consistent, but because of the particular form the anisotropic stress takes in f(R) gravity, the general integrability conditions, in this case, are satisfied.

Abstract:In the present manuscript the basic Einstein--Hilbert cosmological model is extended, by adding a new functional $F(G, T_{\mu\nu}T^{\mu\nu})$ in the fundamental action, encoding specific geometrical effects due to a nontrivial coupling with the Gauss-Bonnet invariant ($G$), and the energy--momentum squared term ($T_{\mu\nu}T^{\mu\nu}$). After obtaining the corresponding gravitational field equations for the specific decomposition where $F(G, T_{\mu\nu}T^{\mu\nu})=f(G)+g(T_{\mu\nu}T^{\mu\nu})$, we have explored the physical features of the cosmological model by considering the linear stability theory, an important analytical tool in the cosmological theory which can reveal the dynamical characteristics of the phase space. The analytical exploration of the corresponding phase space structure revealed that the present model can represent a viable dark energy model, with various stationary points where the effective equation of state corresponds to a de--Sitter epoch, possible explaining the early and late time acceleration of the Universe.

Bulk viscous cosmological model in $f(T,\mathcal{T})$ modified gravity

Abstract:This article explores the impact of bulk viscosity on understanding the universe's accelerated expansion within the context of modified $f(T,\mathcal{T})$ gravity, which is an extension of the $f(T)$ gravitational theory, allowing a broad coupling between the energy-momentum scalar $\mathcal{T}$ and the torsion scalar $T$. We consider two $f(T,\mathcal{T})$ functions, specifically $f(T,\mathcal{T})=\alpha T + \beta \mathcal{T}$ and $f(T,\mathcal{T})=\alpha \sqrt{-T} + \beta \mathcal{T}$, where $\alpha$ and $\beta$ are arbitrary constants, along with the fluid part incorporating the coefficient of bulk viscosity $\zeta=\zeta_0 > 0$. We calculate the analytical solutions of the corresponding field equations for a flat FLRW environment, and then we constrain the free parameters of the obtained solution using CC, Pantheon+, and the CC+Pantheon+ samples. We perform the Bayesian statistical analysis to estimate the posterior probability utilizing the likelihood function and the MCMC random sampling technique. Further, to assess the effectiveness of our MCMC analysis, we estimate the corresponding AIC and BIC values, and we find that there is strong evidence supporting the assumed viscous modified gravity models for all three data sets. Also, we find that the linear model precisely mimics the $\Lambda$CDM model. We also investigate the evolutionary behavior of some prominent cosmological parameters. We observe that the effective equation of state parameter for both models predict the accelerating behavior of the cosmic expansion phase. In addition, from the statefinder test, we find that the parameters of the considered MOG models favor the quintessence-type behavior.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the existence of bulk viscous FLRW cosmological models in a recently proposed extended symmetric teleparallel gravity or fQ,T gravity in which Q is the non-metricity and T is the trace of the energy–momentum tensor. We consider a simple coupling between matter and non-metricity, specifically, fQ,T=αQm+1+λT and fQ,T=αQ+λT where α , λ and m are free model parameters. The exact cosmological solutions are found by assuming the scale factor in the form of the hybrid expansion law. This type of relation generates a time-varying deceleration parameter with the transition of the Universe from the early decelerating phase to the present accelerating phase. In the presence of viscous fluid, we analyze some cosmological parameters of our cosmological model such as the energy density, bulk viscous pressure, bulk viscous coefficient, equation of state parameter, and energy conditions. Friedmann's Universe Controlled by Gauss-Bonnet Modified Gravity

Abstract:The accepted idea that the expansion of the universe is accelerating needs, for compatibility to general relativity, the introduction of some unusual forms of matter. However, several authors have proposed that instead of making weird hypothesis on some yet unobservable species of matter, one should follow the original idea of the first Einstein's paper on cosmology and consider that in the cosmic scene one has to modify the equations that controls the gravitational metric. This possibility led us to re-examine the evolution of the topological invariant containing two duals in a dynamical universe, the so called Gauss-Bonnet topological invariant. The particular interest on this invariant is due to the fact that in a homogeneous and isotropic universe this invariant drives the cosmic acceleration. In a decelerating scenario and as a necessary previous condition of an ulterior acceleration this invariant must have an extremum identified to its maximum value. We will examine the conditions for this to occur, and a description of the universe with epochs of accelerated and decelerated expansion.
