Abstract:In this article, we present two new constructions for semifields of order $p^{2m}$. Together, the constructions unify and generalize around a dozen distinct semifield constructions, including both the oldest known construction by Dickson and the largest known construction in odd characteristic by Taniguchi. The constructions also provably yield many new semifields. We give precise conditions when the new semifields we find are equivalent and count precisely how many new inequivalent semifields we construct.

Abstract:Semifields are semirings in which every nonzero element has a multiplicative inverse. A rough classification uses the characteristic of the semifield, that is the isomorphism type of the semifield generated by the two neutral elements. For every characteristic, we provide a structure theorem that reduces the classification of semifields to the classification of better-known algebraic structures. Every semifield of characteristic $p$ is actually a field. There is an equivalence between semifields of characteristic one and lattice-ordered groups. Strict semifields of characteristic zero are quotients of cancellative semifields and there is an equivalence between concellative strict semifields and a particular class of partially ordered rings.

Abstract:Let H be a finite dimensional Hopf algebra and A be an algebra over a fixed field k. Firstly, it is proved that the left FP-projective dimension is invariant under cleft extensions when H is semisimple and A is left coherent. Secondly, using (co)induction functors, we study the relations between FP-projective dimensions in A#H-Mod and the counterparts in A(H)-Mod. Finally, we characterize the FP-projective preenvelopes (resp., precovers) under H*-extensions and cleft extensions, respectively.
Abstract Vergleichsstellensätze for preordered semifields and semirings II

Abstract:The present paper continues our foundational work on real algebra with preordered commutative semifields and semirings. We prove two abstract Vergleichsstellensätze for preordered commutative semirings of polynomial growth. These generalize the results of Part I by no longer assuming $1 \ge 0$. Such a generalization comes with substantial technical complications: our Vergleichsstellensätze now also need to take into account infinitesimal information encoded in the form of monotone derivations in addition to the monotone homomorphisms to the nonnegative reals and tropical reals. The auxiliary technical results we develop along the way include surprising implications between inequalities in preordered semifields and a type classification for multiplicatively Archimedean fully preordered semifields. Among other applications, two companion papers use these results in order to derive limit new results in probability and information theory; one on asymptotics of random walks on topological abelian groups, and the other on the asymptotics of matrix majorization.

Constructions of Indecomposable Representations of Algebras Via Reflection Functors

Abstract:The main aim of this paper is to reform the Bernstein-Gelfand-Ponomarev theory in order to characterize representations of some (non-basic) artinian algebras. All non-isomorphic indecomposable projective and injective representations are constructed via Coxeter functors for a generalized path algebra of acyclic quiver and then for an artinian hereditary algebra of Gabriel-type with an admissible ideal. The methods given via natural quivers and reformed modulations are helpful for one to study some properties which are not Morita-invariant in representation theory.

Abstract:We determine the automorphism group for some well known constructions of finite semifields. In particular, we compute the automorphism group of Sandler's semifields and in certain cases the automorphism groups of the Hughes-Kleinfeld and Knuth semifields. We also determine how many nonisomorphic Sandler semifields can be constructed given a finite field F and a finite extension L/F.

Abstract:We study ideal-simple commutative semirings and summarize the results giving their classification, in particular when they are finitely generated. In the principal case of (para)semifields, we then consider their minimal number of generators and show that it grows linearly with the depth of an associated rooted forest.

Abstract:A classical problem in real geometry concerns the representation of positive semidefinite elements of a ring $A$ as sums of squares of elements of $A$. If $A$ is an excellent ring of dimension $\geq3$, it is already known that it contains positive semidefinite elements that cannot be represented as sums of squares in $A$. The one dimensional local case has been afforded by Scheiderer (mainly when its residue field is real closed). In this work we focus on the $2$-dimensional case and determine (under some mild conditions) which local excellent henselian rings $A$ of embedding dimension $3$ have the property that every positive semidefinite element of $A$ is a sum of squares of elements of $A$.

Abstract:Simple elementary construction of the genus field K ∗ {K^ * } (= maximal abelian subfield of the Hilbert class field) of any abelian number field K K is given without using class field theory. When K K is of type ( l , … , l ) (l, \ldots ,l) with l l prime, the construction is more explicit. These results contain some former results and show that the main result in [8] has mistakes.
The fundamental theorem of finite semidistributive lattices

Abstract:We prove a Fundamental Theorem of Finite Semidistributive Lattices (FTFSDL), modelled on Birkhoff's Fundamental Theorem of Finite Distributive Lattices. Our FTFSDL is of the form "A poset L is a finite semidistributive lattice if and only if there exists a set Sha with some additional structure, such that L is isomorphic to the admissible subsets of Sha ordered by inclusion; in this case, Sha and its additional structure are uniquely determined by L." The additional structure on Sha is a combinatorial abstraction of the notion of torsion pairs from representation theory and has geometric meaning in the case of posets of regions of hyperplane arrangements. We show how the FTFSDL clarifies many constructions in lattice theory, such as canonical join representations and passing to quotients, and how the semidistributive property interacts with other major classes of lattices. Many of our results also apply to infinite lattices.

Bisector fields and projective duality

Abstract:Working over a field ${\mathbb{k}}$ of characteristic $\ne 2$, we study what we call bisector fields, which are arrangements of paired lines in the plane that have the property that each line in the arrangement crosses the paired lines in pairs of points that all share the same midpoint. To do so, we use tools from the theory of algebraic curves and projective duality. We obtain a complete classification if ${\mathbb{k}}$ is real closed or algebraically closed, and we obtain a partial classification if ${\mathbb{k}}$ is a finite field. A classification for other fields remains an open question. Ultimately this is a question regarding affine equivalence within a system of certain rational quartic curves.

Abstract:We introduce {\em Green fields}, as commutative Green biset functors with no non-trivial ideals. We state some of their properties and give examples of known Green biset functors which are Green fields. Among the properties, we prove some criterions ensuring that a Green field is semisimple. Finally, we describe a type of Green field for which its category of modules is equivalent to a category of vector spaces over a field.

Abstract:We prove a triangulation theorem for semi-algebraic sets over a p-adically closed field, quite similar to its real counterpart. We derive from it several applications like the existence of flexible retractions and splitting for semi-algebraic sets.

Abstract:Let k be a field and q a non-zero element of k. In Part I, we have exhibited a 6-dimensional k-algebra A = A(q) and we have shown that if q has infinite multiplicative order, then A has a 3-dimensional local module which is semi-Gorenstein-projective, but not torsionless, thus not Gorenstein-projective. This Part II is devoted to a detailed study of all the 3-dimensional local A-modules for this particular algebra A. If q has infinite multiplicative order, we will encounter a whole family of 3-dimensional local modules which are semi-Gorenstein-projective, but not torsionless.

Abstract:Associative rings are considered. By a lattice isomorphism (or projection) of a ring R onto a ring R φ we mean an isomorphism φ of the subring lattice L( R ) of a ring R onto the subring lattice L( R φ ) of a ring R φ . Let M n (GF(p k )) be the ring of all square matrices of order n over a finite field GF( p k ), where n and k are natural numbers, p is a prime. A finite ring R with identity is called a semilocal (primary) ring if R/RadR ≅ M n (GF(p k )). It is known that a finite ring R with identity is a semilocal ring iff R ≅ M n ( K ) and K is a finite local ring. Here we study lattice isomorphisms of finite semilocal rings. It is proved that if φ is a projection of a ring R = M n ( K ), where K is an arbitrary finite local ring, onto a ring R φ , then R φ = Mn( K ′), in which case K ′ is a local ring lattice-isomorphic to the ring K . We thus prove that the class of semilocal rings is lattice definable.

Semialgebraic groups and generalized affine buildings

Abstract:We develop the theory of algebraic groups over real closed fields and apply the results to construct a geometric object $\mathcal{B}$ and to prove that $\mathcal{B}$ is an affine $\Lambda$-building. We use a model theoretic transfer principle to prove generalizations of statements about semisimple Lie groups. In this direction we give proofs for the Iwasawa-decomposition $KAU$, the Cartan-decomposition $KAK$ and the Bruhat-decomposition $BWB$. For unipotent subgroups we prove the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula and use it to analyse root groups. We give a proof of the Jacobson-Morozov Lemma about subgroups whose Lie algebra is isomorphic to $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ and we describe other rank 1 subgroups which are the semisimple parts of Levi-subgroups. We prove a semialgebraic version of Kostant's convexity. Over the reals, semisimple Lie groups are closely related to the symmetry groups of symmetric spaces of non-compact type. These symmetric spaces can be described semialgebraically, which allows us to consider their semialgebraic extension over any real closed field. Starting from these non-standard symmetric spaces we use a valuation (with image some non-discrete ordered abelian group $\Lambda$) on the fields to define a $\Lambda$-pseudometric. Identifying points of distance zero results in a $\Lambda$-metric space $\mathcal{B}$. Assuming that the root system of the associated Lie group is reduced, we prove that $\mathcal{B}$ is an affine $\Lambda$-building. The proof relies on a thorough analysis of stabilizers.

Projection formulas and induced functors on centers of monoidal categories

Abstract:Given a monoidal adjunction, we show that the right adjoint induces a braided lax monoidal functor between the corresponding Drinfeld centers provided that certain natural transformations, called projection formula morphisms, are invertible. We investigate these induced functors on Drinfeld centers in more detail for the monoidal adjunction of restriction and (co-)induction along morphisms of Hopf algebras. The resulting functors are applied to examples related to affine algebraic groups, quantum groups at roots of unity, and Radford--Majid biproducts of Hopf algebras. Moreover, we use the projection formula morphisms to prove a characterization theorem for monoidal Kleisli adjunctions and a crude monoidal monadicity theorem. The functor on Drinfeld centers induced by the Eilenberg--Moore adjunction is given in terms of local modules over commutative central monoids.

Semi-infinite construction of one-dimensional lattice vertex superalgebras

Abstract:We construct the Feigin-Stoyanovsky (combinatorial) basis in case of one-dimensional lattice vertex superalgebras $V_{\sqrt{N}\,\mathbb{Z}}$. Our proof is based on invariance of semi-infinite monomials linear span under action of corresponding Heisenberg algebra. Semi-infinite monomials are parametrized by natural generalization of Maya diagrams $\unicode{x2013}$ Fibonacci configurations on $\mathbb{Z}$, which allows us to construct a desired basis with character considerations. We also discuss some related questions such as functional realization of basic subspace's dual and representational proof of Feigin-Stoyanovsky construction in case of $V_{\sqrt{2}\,\mathbb{Z}}$.
