Abstract:BackgroundPermanent Magnet Brushless Direct Current (PMBLDC) motors have gained popularity in various industrial applications due to their exceptional performance, enhanced startup torque, and reduced noise levels. However, when operated with Hall sensors, PMBLDC motors exhibit drawbacks, such as square wave-like phase current waveforms, leading to issues like poor efficiency, substantial torque ripples, and current noise. This paper addresses these challenges by proposing a sensorless PMBLDC motor system powered by a Photovoltaic panel, coupled with an efficient dc-dc converter.MethodsTo enhance the efficiency of the PMBLDC motor system, a unique Single-Ended Primary Inductance (SEPIC) integrated Zeta converter is employed. This converter is designed to generate increased DC voltage with minimal switching loss, as it operates at a lower duty cycle. The system leverages the benefits of the SEPIC-Zeta converter, which include reduced Electromagnetic Interference, higher efficiency, and improved reliability. Effective control of the converter is achieved through a Pulse Width Modulation generator. The switching operation of the converter is analyzed using Proportional Integral (PI) control, Grey Wolf Optimized Proportional Integral (GWO-PI) control, and Whale Optimized Proportional Integral (WO-PI) control. The study evaluates the performance of the converter under various control strategies.ResultsThe analysis reveals that the WO-PI controller is highly effective in regulating the SEPIC-Zeta converter, with fast convergence speed and quick settling time. The converter’s output is linked to PMBLDC motor and grid through 3ϕ and 1ϕ inverters, respectively. Simulations of the drive system’s performance, including stable and varying load conditions, demonstrate the system’s efficiency. The presented converter achieves the highest efficiency and voltage gain values of 96.5% and 1:10, respectively, surpassing conventional converters.ConclusionsThe proposed system, featuring a sensorless PMBLDC motor, a Photovoltaic panel, and a SEPIC-Zeta converter controlled by the WO-PI controller, offers a promising solution to address the efficiency and performance challenges associated with PMBLDC motor drives. The high efficiency, minimal switching loss, and reliable operation of the converter make it a viable choice for various applications where PMBLDC motors are employed.
