Abstract:Two-loop renormalization group equations in the standard model are recalculated. A new coefficient is found in the beta function of the quartic coupling and a class of gauge invariants is found to be absent in the beta functions of hadronic Yukawa couplings. The two-loop beta function of the Higgs mass parameter is presented in complete form.

Abstract:The renormalization group equations (RGEs) of non-universal soft supersymmetric breaking terms with CP-violating phases are analysed in this paper. We obtain the analytic solutions of RGEs by solving the RGEs directly. Compared with the method of spurion expansion our approach proves to be simple and succinct, and is easily extended to the case of complex parameters. With the analytical forms of the solutions we obtained, the infrared quasi-fixed-point behaviour of soft terms can be analysed and it turns out to support the notion of scenarios with CP-violating phases.
All-loop renormalization group invariants for MSSM

Abstract:For MSSM from the gauge couplings, Yukawa couplings, and the coefficient $\mu$ in the part of superpotential quadratic in the Higgs superfields we construct combinations which (for certain renormalization prescriptions) do not depend on the renormalization point in all loops. In other words, these combinations are the renormalization group invariants. Similar invariants are also constructed for NMSSM. The derivation is based on the nonrenormalization of the superpotential and the NSVZ equations. We argue that the scale invariance of the considered combinations takes place in the class of the HD+MSL schemes. This fact has been verified in the lowest orders, up to and including the one in which the dependence on the renormalization prescription becomes essential. It is also demonstrated that in the $\overline{\mbox{DR}}$ scheme the renormalization group invariance does not take place starting from the approximation, where the scheme dependence manifests itself.

Abstract:We consider a class of N=1 supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model in which the soft breaking sector is CP conserving at the GUT scale. We study the question of whether the presence of explicit CP violation in the Yukawa sector of the theory induces through renormalization effects CP violating phases in the soft terms, which could lead to observable effects. A clear pattern appears in the structure of phases in the soft sector. In particular, the inclusion of intergenerational mixing induces large phases in the flavour mixing entries of the trilinear soft breaking terms, whereas the diagonal entries remain real. A mechanism is proposed for generating through chargino exchange a contribution to the neutron electric dipole moment which can be a few orders of magnitude larger that that of the Standard Model, although still out of reach of experimental tests. We comment on the possible relevance of these phases for baryogenesis at the weak scale in minimal supersymetric scenarios, recently considered in the literature.

Three-loop effective potential for softly broken supersymmetry

Abstract:The effective potential has been previously calculated through three-loop order, in Landau gauge, for a general renormalizable theory using dimensional regularization. However, dimensional regularization is not appropriate for softly broken supersymmetric gauge theories, because it explicitly violates supersymmetry. In this paper, I obtain the three-loop effective potential using a supersymmetric regulator based on dimensional reduction. Checks follow from the vanishing of the effective potential in examples with supersymmetric vacua, and from renormalization scale invariance in examples for which supersymmetry is broken, either spontaneously or explicitly by soft terms. As byproducts, I obtain the three-loop Landau gauge anomalous dimension for the scalar component of a chiral supermultiplet, and the beta function for the field-independent vacuum energy.

Abstract:R-parity conservation is an nd hoc assumption in the most popular version of the supersymmetric standard model. Most studies of models which do allow for R-parity violation have been restricted to various limiting scenarios. The single-VEV parametrization used in this paper provides a workable framework to analyze phenomenology of the most general theory of SUSY without R parity. We perform a comprehensive study of leptonic phenomenology at the tree level. Experimental constraints on various processes are studied individually and then combined to yield regions of admissible parameter space. In particular we show that large R-parity violating bilinear couplings are not ruled out, especially for large tan beta.

Abstract:The calculation of the Higgs mass in general renormalisable field theories has been plagued by the so-called “Goldstone Boson Catastrophe,” where light (would-be) Goldstone bosons give infra-red divergent loop integrals. In supersymmetric models, previous approaches included a workaround that ameliorated the problem for most, but not all, parameter space regions; while giving divergent results everywhere for non-supersymmetric models! We present an implementation of a general solution to the problem in the public code SARAH, along with new calculations of some necessary loop integrals and generic expressions. We discuss the validation of our code in the Standard Model, where we find remarkable agreement with the known results. We then show new applications in Split SUSY, the NMSSM, the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model, and the Georgi–Machacek model. In particular, we take some first steps to exploring where the habit of using tree-level mass relations in non-supersymmetric models breaks down, and show that the loop corrections usually become very large well before naive perturbativity bounds are reached.

Abstract:We consider the renormalisation of the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term in a softly-broken abelian supersymmetric theory, and calculate the associated beta-function through three loops. We show that there exists (at least through three loops) a renormalisation group invariant trajectory for the coefficient of the D-term, corresponding to the conformal anomaly solution for the soft masses and couplings.

Abstract:R-parity violating terms in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model are studied within a parametrization characterized by a single vacuum expectation value for the scalar components of the Y = -1/2 superfields. The benefits of this efficient parametrization are that it enables phenomenological analyses of R-parity violation without a priori assumptions (such as setting most R-parity violating terms to zero in an ad hoc way). The tree-level fermionic mass eigenstates are derived and shown to be particularly simple in this scheme, involving only the bilinear mu(i) Pi-parity violating terms. Suprisingly large values of these mu(i) are consistent with the experimantal constraints. This is outlined.
On $β$-function of $N=2$ supersymmetric integrable sigma-models

Abstract:We study regularization scheme dependence of Kähler ($N=2$) supersymmetric sigma models. At the one-loop order the metric $\beta$ function is the same as in non-supersymmetric case and coincides with the Ricci tensor. First correction in MS scheme is known to appear in the fourth loop. We show that for certain integrable Kähler backgrounds, such as complete $T-$dual of $\eta$-deformed $\mathbb{CP}(n)$ sigma models, there is a scheme in which the fourth loop contribution vanishes.

Abstract:We investigate possible renormalization effects on the low-energy mass spectrum of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), using a calculable model of strongly coupled hidden sector. We model the hidden sector by N=2 supersymmetric quantum chromodynamics with gauge group SU(2) x U(1) and N_f=2 matter hypermultiplets, perturbed by a Fayet-Iliopoulos term which breaks the supersymmetry down to N=0 on a metastable vacuum. In the hidden sector the Kahler potential is renormalized. Upon identifying a hidden sector modulus with the renormalization scale, and extrapolating to the strongly coupled regime using the Seiberg-Witten solution, the contribution from the hidden sector to the MSSM renormalization group flows is computed. For concreteness, we consider a model in which the renormalization effects are communicated to the MSSM sector via gauge mediation. In contrast to the perturbative toy examples of hidden sector renormalization studied in the literature, we find that our strongly coupled model exhibits rather intricate effects on the MSSM soft scalar mass spectrum, depending on how the hidden sector fields are coupled to the messenger fields. This model provides a concrete example in which the low-energy spectrum of MSSM particles that are expected to be accessible in collider experiments is obtained using strongly coupled hidden sector dynamics.

Supersymmetry with scalar sequestering

Abstract:Supersymmetric models with a strongly interacting superconformal hidden sector (HS) may drive soft SUSY breaking scalar masses, bilinear soft term B\mu and Higgs combinations m_{H_{u,d}}^2+\mu^2 to small values at some intermediate scale, leading to unique sparticle mass spectra along with possibly diminished finetuning in spite of a large superpotential $\mu$ parameter. We set up a computer code to calculate such spectra, which are then susceptible to a variety of constraints: 1. possible charge-or-color breaking (CCB) minima in the scalar potential, 2. unbounded from below (UFB) scalar potential, 3. improper electroweak symmetry breaking, 4. a charged or sneutrino lightest SUSY particle (LSP), 5. generating m_h~ 125 GeV, 6. consistency with LHC sparticle mass limits, and 7. naturalness. We find this bevy of constraints leaves little or no viable parameter space for the case where hidden sector dynamics dominates MSSM running, even for the case of non-universal gaugino masses. For the case with moderate HS running with comparable MSSM running, and with universal gaugino masses, then the finetuning is ameliorated, but nonetheless remains high. Viable spectra with moderate HS running and with low finetuning and large mu can be found for non-universal gaugino masses.

Abstract:We investigate the possibility of explaining the enhancement in semileptonic decays of B̅→ D^(*)τν̅ , the anomalies induced by b→ sμ ^+μ ^- in B̅→ (K, K^*, ϕ )μ ^+μ ^- and violation of lepton universality in R_K = Br(B̅→ K μ ^+μ ^-)/Br(B̅→ K e^+e^-) within the framework of R-parity violating MSSM. The exchange of down type right-handed squark coupled to quarks and leptons yields interactions which are similar to leptoquark induced interactions that have been proposed to explain the B̅→ D^(*)τν̅ by tree level interactions and b→ s μ ^+μ ^- anomalies by loop induced interactions, simultaneously. However, the Yukawa couplings in such theories have severe constraints from other rare processes in B and D decays. Although this interaction can provide a viable solution to the R(D^(*)) anomaly, we show that with the severe constraint from B̅→ K νν̅ , it is impossible to solve the anomalies in the b→ s μ ^+μ ^- process simultaneously.

Soft supersymmetry breaking as the sole origin of neutrino masses and lepton number violation

Abstract:We discuss a scenario in which the supergravity induced soft terms, conventionally used for breaking supersymmetry, also lead to non-zero Majorana neutrino masses. The soft terms lead to the spontaneous violation of the lepton number at the gravitino mass scale $m_{3/2}$ which in turn leads to (i) the Majorana masses of ${\cal O} (m_{3/2})$ for the right-handed neutrinos and (ii) the $R$-parity breaking at the same scale. The former contributes to light neutrino masses through the type I seesaw mechanism, while the latter adds to it through neutrino-neutralino mixing. Both contributions can scale inversely with respect to $m_{3/2}$ given that gaugino and Higgsino masses are also of order $m_{3/2}$. Together, these two contributions adequately explain observed neutrino masses and mixing. One realization of the scenario also naturally leads to a $\mu$ parameter of ${\cal O} (m_{3/2})$. Despite the lepton number symmetry breaking close to the weak scale, the Majoron in the model exhibits very weak coupling to leptons, satisfying existing constraints on Majoron-lepton interactions. The right-handed neutrinos in the model have a large coupling to Higgsinos. This coupling and the relatively large heavy-light neutrino mixing induced through the seesaw mechanism may lead to the observable signals at colliders in terms of displaced vertices.
