Abstract:I give a formula for computing the number of regular $\Gamma$-coverings of closed orientable Seifert 3-manifolds, for a given finite group $\Gamma$. The number is computed using a 3d TQFT with finite gauge group, through a cut-and-glue process.

Abstract:Abstract For any closed orientable 3‐manifold, there is a volume function defined on the space of all Seifert representations of the fundamental group. The maximum absolute value of this function agrees with the Seifert volume of the manifold due to Brooks and Goldman. For any Seifert representation of a graph manifold, the authors establish an effective formula for computing its volume, and obtain restrictions to the representation as analogous to the Milnor–Wood inequality (about transversely projective foliations on Seifert fiber spaces). It is shown that the Seifert volume of any graph manifold is a rational multiple of . Among all finite covers of a given nongeometric graph manifold, the supremum ratio of the Seifert volume over the covering degree can be a positive number, and can be infinite. Examples of both possibilities are discovered, and confirmed with the explicit values determined for the finite ones.

On finite group global and gauged $q$-form symmetries in TQFT

Abstract:We describe a method to implement finite group global and gauged $q$-form symmetries into the axiomatic structure of $d$-dimensional Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT) in terms of bordisms decorated by cohomology classes. Namely, on a manifold with a boundary, the gauge field is considered as a class in an appropriate relative cohomology group. It is defined in a way that allows self-consistent cutting and gluing of the manifolds and involves a choice of a $(d-q-2)$-skeleton in the boundary. The method, in a sense, generalizes to arbitrary $d$ and $q$ a method that has been considered in the literature in the case of $d=3,\;q=0,1$.

MTC$[M_3, G]$: 3d Topological Order Labeled by Seifert Manifolds

Abstract:We propose a correspondence between topological order in 2+1d and Seifert three-manifolds together with a choice of ADE gauge group $G$. Topological order in 2+1d is known to be characterized in terms of modular tensor categories (MTCs), and we thus propose a relation between MTCs and Seifert three-manifolds. The correspondence defines for every Seifert manifold and choice of $G$ a fusion category, which we conjecture to be modular whenever the Seifert manifold has trivial first homology group with coefficients in the center of $G$. The construction determines the spins of anyons and their S-matrix, and provides a constructive way to determine the R- and F-symbols from simple building blocks. We explore the possibility that this correspondence provides an alternative classification of MTCs, which is put to the test by realizing all MTCs (unitary or non-unitary) with rank $r\leq 5$ in terms of Seifert manifolds and a choice of Lie group $G$.

Abstract:A coset geometry representation of regular dessins is established, and employed to describe quotients and coverings of regular dessins and surfaces. A characterization is then given of face-quasiprimitive regular dessins as coverings of unicellular regular dessins. It shows that there are exactly three O'Nan-Scott-Praeger types of face-quasiprimitive regular dessins which are smooth coverings of unicellular regular dessins, leading to new constructions of interesting families of regular dessins. Finally, a problem of determining smooth Schur covering of simple groups is initiated by studying coverings between $\SL(2,p)$ and $\PSL(2,p)$, giving rise to interesting regular dessins like Fibonacci coverings.

Abstract:We present the topological foundation for solvability of Multiplicative Cousin problems formulated on an axially symmetric domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb H.$ In particular, we provide a geometric construction of quaternionic Cartan coverings, which are generalizations of (complex) Cartan coverings as presented in Section 4 of [FP]. Because of the requirements of symmetry inherent to the domains of definition of quaternionic regular functions, the existence of quaternionic Cartan coverings of $\Omega$ is not a consequence of existence of complex Cartan coverings, because for the latter there are no requirements for the symmetries with respect to the real axis. Due to the special role of the real axis, also the covering restricted to $\Omega \cap \mathbb R$ has to have additional properties. All these required properties were achieved by starting from a particular symmetric tiling of the symmetric set $\Omega \cap (\mathbb R + i\mathbb R)$. Finally we provide an application of these results to prove the vanishing of 'antisymmetric' cohomology groups of planar symmetric domains for $n \geq 2$.

Abstract:. W.Thurston raised the following question in 1976: Suppose that a compact 3-manifold M is not covered by (surface) × S^1 or a torus bundle over S^1 . If M_1 and M_2 are two homeomorphic finite covering spaces of M , do they have the same covering degree?¶For so called geometric 3-manifolds (a famous conjecture is that all compact orientable 3-manifolds are geometric), it is known that the answer is affirmative if M is not a non-trivial graph manifold.¶In this paper, we prove that the answer for non-trivial graph manifolds is also affirmative. Hence the answer for the Thurston's question is complete for geometric 3-manifolds. Some properties of 3-manifold groups are also derived.

Abstract:We enumerate topologically-inequivalent compact Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces. By computing arithmetic and algebraic invariants and the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of curves, we prove that the number of distinct simply connected Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces resulting from triangulations of four-dimensional reflexive polytopes is 4, 27, 183, 1,184 and 8,036 at $h^{1,1}$ = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively. We also establish that there are ten equivalence classes of Wall data of non-simply connected Calabi-Yau threefolds from the Kreuzer-Skarke list. Finally, we give a provisional count of threefolds obtained by enumerating non-toric flops at $h^{1,1} =2$.

A Ball Quotient Parametrizing Trigonal Genus 4 Curves

Abstract:We consider the moduli space of genus 4 curves endowed with a $g<^>1_3$ (which maps with degree 2 onto the moduli space of genus 4 curves). We prove that it defines a degree $\frac {1}{2}(3<^>{10}-1)$ cover of the nine-dimensional Deligne-Mostow ball quotient such that the natural divisors that live on that moduli space become totally geodesic (their normalizations are eight-dimensional ball quotients). This isomorphism differs from the one considered by S. Kondo, and its construction is perhaps more elementary, as it does not involve K3 surfaces and their Torelli theorem: the Deligne-Mostow ball quotient parametrizes certain cyclic covers of degree 6 of a projective line and we show how a level structure on such a cover produces a degree 3 cover of that line with the same discriminant, yielding a genus 4 curve endowed with a $g<^>1_3$.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a closed, orientable, and irreducible 3-manifold with Heegaard genus two. We prove that if the fundamental group of $M$ is left-orderable then $M$ admits a co-orientable taut foliation.

Abstract:Without recourse to the sophisticated machinery of twisted group algebras, projective character tables and explicit values of 2-cocycles, we here present a simple algorithm to study the gauge theory data of D-brane probes on a generic orbifold G with discrete torsion turned on. We show in particular that the gauge theory can be obtained with the knowledge of no more than the ordinary character tables of G and its covering group G*. Subsequently we present the quiver diagrams of certain illustrative examples of SU(3)-orbifolds which have non-trivial Schur Multipliers. The paper serves as a companion to our earlier work hep-th/0010023 and aims to initiate a systematic and computationally convenient study of discrete torsion.
Hennings TQFTs for Cobordisms Decorated With Cohomology Classes

Abstract:Starting from an abelian group $G$ and a factorizable ribbon Hopf $G$-bialgebra $H$, we construct a TQFT $J_H$ for connected framed cobordisms between connected surfaces with connected boundary decorated with cohomology classes with coefficients in $G$. When restricted to the subcategory of cobordisms with trivial decorations, our functor recovers a special case of Kerler-Lyubashenko TQFTs, namely those associated with factorizable ribbon Hopf algebras. Our result is inspired by the work of Blanchet-Costantino-Geer-Patureau, who constructed non-semisimple TQFTs for admissible decorated cobordisms using the unrolled quantum group of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$, and by that of Geer-Ha-Patureau, who reformulated the underlying invariants of admissible decorated $3$-manifolds using ribbon Hopf $G$-coalgebras. Our work represents the first step towards a homological model for non-semisimple TQFTs decorated with cohomology classes that appears in a conjecture by the first two authors.

Constraints on embedded spheres and real projective planes in 4-manifolds from Seiberg-Witten theory

Abstract:We calculate the Seiberg-Witten invariants of branched covers of prime degree, where the branch locus consists of embedded spheres. Aside from the formula itself, our calculations give rise to some new constraints on configurations of embedded spheres in 4-manifolds. Using similar methods, we also obtain new constraints on embeddings of real projective planes and spheres with a cusp singularity. Moreover, we show that the existence of certain configurations of surfaces would give rise to 4-manifolds of non-simple type. Our proof makes use of equivariant Seiberg-Witten invariants as well as a gluing formula for the relative Seiberg-Witten invariants of 4-manifolds with positive scalar curvature boundary.

Abstract:A 3-manifold M is said to have Property C if the degrees of finite coverings over M are determined by the manifolds. Thurston asked the following questions: is there a real-valued invariant of 3-manifolds with a certain covering property, and which 3-manifolds have Property C? For geometric manifolds the conjecture is that M has Property C if and only if it is not covered by (surface) x S-1 or a torus bundle over S-1. With the aid of the Gromov norm, the conjecture is quickly reduced to the case of graph manifolds.In this paper we define a new invariant omega(M) for graph manifolds. It has the covering property that if N is a d-fold covering space of M, then omega(N) = d omega(M). Thus in the generic case, when omega(M) not equal 0, the manifold M has Property C. We also use the methods to prove two other results. The first classifies all geometric manifolds that admit non-trivial self-coverings. The second solves a problem of Gonzales-Acuna and Whitten about the cohopficity of 3-manifold groups, and determines all closed geometric manifolds that have cohopfian fundamental groups.
Quasisections of circle bundles and Euler class

Abstract:Let $ E \xrightarrow[\text{}]{\pi} B$ be an oriented circle bundle over an oriented closed surface $B$. A \textit{quasisection} is a closed smooth manifold ${Q}$ mapped by a generic smooth mapping $q$ to $E$ such that $\pi\circ q({Q})=B$. In the paper we show that Euler number (Euler class) of the bundle equals the sum of weights of (some of) singularities of a quasisection. We also prove the uniqueness of such a formula. The formula is a close relative of M. Kazarian's formula which relates the Euler number and Morse bifurcations of a generic function defined on the total space $E$.

Abstract:We introduce a coarse perspective on relations of the $SU(2)$-Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev TQFT, the Weil-Petersson geometry of the Teichmüller space, and volumes of hyperbolic 3-manifolds. Using data from the asymptotic expansions of the curve operators in the skein theoretic version of the $SU(2)$-TQFT, we define the quantum intersection number between pants decompositions of a closed surface. We show that the quantum intersection number admits two sided bounds in terms of the geometric intersection number and we use it to obtain a metric on the pants graph of surfaces. Using work of Brock we show that the pants graph equipped with this metric is quasi-isometric to the Teichmüller space with the Weil-Petersson metric and that the translation length of our metric provides two sided linear bounds on the volume of hyperbolic fibered manifolds. We briefly discuss how these relations are interpeted from the view point of $SU(2)$-character varieties of 3-manifolds. We also obtain a characterization of pseudo-Anosov mapping classes in terms of asymptotics of the quantum intersection number under iteration in the mapping class group and relate these asymptotics with stretch factors. We also discuss how these results fit with a conjecture of Andersen, Masbaum and Ueno about quantum representations of mapping class groups.

Abstract:We systematically study the AdS/CFT correspondence induced by D3 branes probing three dimensional Gorenstein quotient singularity ℂ^3/G. The field theory is given by the McKay quiver, which has a vanishing NSVZ beta function assuming that all the chiral fields have the U(1)_R charge 2/3. Various physical quantities such as quiver Hilbert series, superconformal index, central charges, etc are computed, which match exactly with those computed using the singularity. We also study the relevant deformation of those theories and find the dual geometry, therefore generate many new interesting AdS/CFT pairs. The quiver gauge theory defined using finite subgroups of SO(3) group has some interesting features, for example, its Seiberg duality behavior is quite interesting.
