Abstract:This article is devoted to studying a topos introduced by Faltings for the purpose of $p$-adic Hodge theory. We present a new approach based on a generalisation of Deligne's co-vanishing topos. Along the way, we correct Faltings' original definition.

Abstract:We want to discuss various applications of modular forms in topology. The starting point is elliptic genus and its generalizations. The main techniques are the Atiyah-Singer index theorem, the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula, Kac-Moody Lie algebras, modular forms and theta-functions. Just as the representations theory of classical Lie groups has close connections with the Atiyah-Singer index formula as exposed in [A1], the representation theory of loop groups plays very important role in our study. One of the most important new features of loop group representations is the modular invariance of the Kac-Weyl character formula, which allows us to derive many interesting new results and to unify many important old results in topology. In this paper we will develope along this line. We hope that the other features of loop group representations, such as fusion rules and tensor category structure may also be applied to topology. See the discussions in §3. The contents of this paper is organized in the following way. In §1 we introduce elliptic genus by combining index theory and the representation theory of loop groups. The relation of the classical index theory with representation theory of classical Lie groups was discussed in [A1]. Here one finds that just replacing the classical Lie groups by their corresponding loop groups, we get the complete theory of elliptic genus, or more generally the index theory on loop space. Especially the Dirac operator and the Witten genus of loop space are derived more convincingly in this way. Then all of the other well-known properties of elliptic genus, such as functional equations, characterizations by rigidity and fibrations, can be easily obtained. Here we only pick some less well-known results to discuss, for example the expressions of the parameters in elliptic genera in terms of theta-functions. Different from the classical Lie group case, a new feature in our situation appears, the modular invariance which, by combining with index theory, is applied to obtain many new topological results. This is the content of §2. Most results in this section are special cases of more general results. For simplicity we only give the main ideas of the proofs. We make some geometric constructions in §3 to understand elliptic cohomology. The construction in §3.3 is motivated by the vertex operator algebra construction of the monstrous moonshine module. Abstract:We set the foundations of a theory of Grothendieck $(\infty,2)$-topoi based on the notion of fibrational descent, which axiomatizes both the existence of a classifying object for fibrations internal to an $(\infty,2)$-category as well as the exponentiability of these fibrations. As our main result, we prove a 2-dimensional version of Giraud's theorem which characterizes $(\infty,2)$-topoi as those $(\infty, 2)$-categories that appear as localizations of $\mathfrak{C}\!\operatorname{at}$-valued presheaves in which the localization functor preserves certain partially lax finite limits which we call oriented pullbacks. We develop the basics of a theory of partially lax Kan extensions internal to an $(\infty,2)$-topos, and we show that every $(\infty,2)$-topos admits an internal version of the Yoneda embedding. Our general formalism recovers the theory of categories internal to a $(\infty,1)$-topos (as develop by the second author and Sebastian Wolf) as a full sub-$(\infty,2)$-category of the $(\infty,2)$-category of $(\infty,2)$-topoi. As a technical ingredient, we prove general results on the theory of presentable $(\infty,2)$-categories, including lax cocompletions and 2-dimensional versions of the adjoint functor theorem, which might be of independent interest.

The étale topos reconstructs varieties over sub-p-adic fields

Abstract:Let $K$ be a sub-$p$-adic field. We show that the functor sending a finite type $K$-scheme to its étale topos is fully faithful after localizing at the class of universal homeomorphisms. This generalizes a result of Voevodsky, who proved the analogous theorem for fields finitely generated over $\mathbb{Q}$. Our proof relies on Mochizuki's Hom-theorem in anabelian geometry, and a study of point-theoretic morphisms of fundamental groups of curves.

Abstract:We give in this note an overview of a recent work leading to a generalization of the Hodge-Tate spectral sequence to morphisms. The latter takes place in Faltings topos, but its construction requires the introduction of a relative variant of this topos which is the main novelty of our work.

Abstract:We formulate and prove a non-abelian analog of Deligne's Fixed Part theorem on Hodge classes, revisiting previous work of Jost--Zuo, Katzarkov--Pantev and Landesman--Litt. To this aim we study algebraically isomonodromic extensions of local systems and we relate them to variations of Hodge structures, for example we show that the Mumford-Tate group at a generic point stays constant in an algebraically isomonodromic extension of a variation of Hodge structure. v2: a few typos ironed and Thm 1.1 5) completed. v3: there was a Schlamassel leading to a mix-up of files. From Yoneda to Topoi morphisms

Abstract:In this note we show how two fundamental results in Topos theory follow by repeated use of Yoneda's Lemma, the formalism of natural transformations and very basic category theory. In Lemma 9.4, we show the fundamental result SGA4 EXPOSE IV Proposition 4.9.4, which says that for any site $\cc{C}$, the canonical functor $\cc{C} \mr{\varepsilon} Sh(\cc{C})$ into the category of sheaves, classifies sites morphisms $\cc{C} \mr{} \cc{Z}$ into any topos $\cc{Z}$. After the usual Yoneda's Lemma, Lemma 3.1, we show that the Yoneda functor $\cc{C} \mr{h} \Eop{C}$ classifies functors $\cc{C} \mr{} \cc{Z}$ into any cocomplete category $\cc{Z}$, via a cocontinuos extension $\Eop{C} \mr{} \cc{Z}$, Lemma 5.2. Then we reach Lemma 9.4 by an step by step enrichment of 5.2. All we use is Yoneda's Lemma, over and over again, and the Yoga of natural transformations. In Lemma 10.1 we show the equivalence between \emph{flatness} and \emph{left exactness} for functors from finitely complete categories into any topos. Our proof is elementary, we show how basic exactness properties of sets prove the result for set valued functors, then we generalize to functors valued in any topos utilizing results of the previous sections and the Yoga of natural transformations. Besides the thread we follow,nothing here is new, although we haven't seen 10.1 proved this way before.

Abstract:We extend Deligne's original argument showing that locally coherent topoi have enough points, clarified using collage diagrams. We show that our refinement of Deligne's technique can be adapted to recover every existing result of this kind, including the most recent results about $\kappa$-coherent $\kappa$-topoi. Our presentation allows us to relax the cardinality assumptions typically imposed on the sites involved. We show that a larger class of locally finitely presentable toposes have enough points and that a closed subtopos of a topos with enough points has enough points.

Grothendieck Galois theory and étale exodromy

Abstract:Finite étale covers of a connected scheme $X$ are parametrised by the étale fundamental group via the monodromy correspondence. This was generalised to an exodromy correspondence for constructible sheaves, first in the topological setting by MacPherson, Treumann, Lurie, and others, and recently also for étale and pro-étale sheaves by Barwick--Glasman--Haine and Wolf. The proof of the étale exodromy theorem is long and technical, using many new definitions and constructions in the $(\infty,2)$-category of $\infty$-topoi. This paper gives a quick proof of the étale exodromy theorem for constructible sheaves of sets (with respect to a fixed stratification), in the style of Grothendieck's Galois theory.

Abstract:Colmez, Dospinescu and Niziol have shown that the only $p$-adic representations of $\rm{Gal}(\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$ appearing in the $p$-adic étale cohomology of the coverings of Drinfeld's half-plane are the $2$-dimensional cuspidal representations (i.e. potentially semi-stable, whose associated Weil-Deligne representation is irreducible) with Hodge-Tate weights $0$ and $1$ and their multiplicities are given by the $p$-adic Langlands correspondence. We generalise this result to arbitrary weights, by considering the $p$-adic étale cohomology with coefficients in the symmetric powers of the universal local system on Drinfeld's tower. A novelty is the appearance of potentially semistable $2$-dimensional non-cristabelian representations, with expected multiplicity. The key point is that the local systems we consider turn out to be particularly simple: they are "isotrivial opers" on a curve. We develop a recipe to compute the proétale cohomology of such a local system using the Hyodo-Kato cohomology of the curve and the de Rham complex of the flat filtered bundle associated to the local system.

Abstract:This book presents two important results in p-adic Hodge theory following the approach initiated by Faltings, namely (i) his main p-adic comparison theorem, and (ii) the Hodge-Tate spectral sequence. We establish for each of these results two versions, an absolute one and a relative one. While the absolute statements can reasonably be considered as well understood, particularly after their extension to rigid varieties by Scholze, Faltings' initial approach for the relative variants has remained much less studied. Although we follow the same strategy as that used by Faltings to establish his main p-adic comparison theorem, part of our proofs is based on new results. The relative Hodge-Tate spectral sequence is new in this approach.

Abstract:Abstract To understand the p -adic étale cohomology of a proper smooth variety over a p -adic field, Faltings compared it to the cohomology of his ringed topos, by the so-called Faltings’ main p -adic comparison theorem, and then deduced various comparisons with p -adic cohomologies originating from differential forms. In this article, we generalize the former to any proper and finitely presented morphism of coherent schemes over an absolute integral closure of $\mathbb {Z}_p$ (without any smoothness assumption) for torsion abelian étale sheaves (not necessarily finite locally constant). Our proof relies on our cohomological descent for Faltings’ ringed topos, using a variant of de Jong’s alteration theorem for morphisms of schemes due to Gabber–Illusie–Temkin to reduce to the relative case of proper log-smooth morphisms of log-smooth schemes over a complete discrete valuation ring proved by Abbes–Gros. A by-product of our cohomological descent is a new construction of Faltings’ comparison morphism, which does not use Achinger’s results on $K(\pi ,1)$ -schemes.

Abstract:The purpose of the present work is to describe a dequantization procedure for topological modules over a deformed algebra. We define the characteristic variety of a topological module as the common zeroes of the annihilator of the representation obtained by setting the deformation parameter to zero. On the other hand, the Poisson characteristic variety is defined as the common zeroes of the ideal obtained by considering the annihilator of the deformed representation, and only then setting the deformation parameter to zero.Using Gabber’s theorem, we show the involutivity of the characteristic variety. The Poisson characteristic variety is indeed a Poisson subvariety of the underlying Poisson manifold. We compute explicitly the characteristic variety in several examples in the Poisson-linear case, including the dual of any exponential solvable Lie algebra. In the nilpotent case, we show that any coadjoint orbit appears as the Poisson characteristic variety of a well chosen topological module.Résumé:Nous présentons dans ce travail un procédé de déquantification pour des modules topologiques sur une algèbre déformée. Nous définissons la variété caractéristique d’un module topologique comme l’ensemble des zéros communs de l’annulateur de la représentation obtenue en annulant le paramètre de déformation. Nous définissons par ailleurs la variété de Poisson caractéristique comme l’ensemble des zéros communs de l’idéal obtenu par quotient en annulant le paramètre de déformation dans l’annulateur de la représentation déformée.Nous montrons à l’aide du théorème de Gabber l’involutivité de la variété caractéristique. La variété de Poisson caractéristique est une sous-variété de Poisson de la variété de Poisson sous-jacente. Nous explicitons la variété caractéristique dans plusieurs exemples, incluant le dual des algèbres de Lie résolubles exponentielles. Dans le cas nilpotent nous montrons que toute orbite coadjointe est la variété de Poisson caractéristique d’un module topologique bien choisi.

Abstract:We partially resolve conjectures of Deligne and Simpson concerning $\mathbb Z$-local systems on quasi-projective varieties that underlie a polarized variation of Hodge structure. For local systems of "compact type", we prove (1) a relative form of Deligne's finiteness theorem, for any family of quasi-projective varieties, and (2) algebraicity of the corresponding non-abelian Hodge locus.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a field that is finitely generated over its prime field. In Grothendieck's anabelian letter to Faltings, he conjectured that sending a $k$-scheme to its étale topos defines a fully faithful functor from the localization of the category of finite type $k$-schemes at the universal homeomorphisms to a category of topoi. We prove Grothendieck's conjecture for infinite fields of arbitrary characteristic. In characteristic $0$, this shows that seminormal finite type $k$-schemes can be reconstructed from their étale topoi, generalizing work of Voevodsky. In positive characteristic, this shows that perfections of finite type $k$-schemes can be reconstructed from their étale topoi.

Abstract:In this short note we show that the homotopy category of smooth compactifications of smooth algebraic varieties is equivalent to the homotopy category of smooth varieties over a field of characteristic zero. As an application we show that the functor sending a variety to the p-th step of the Hodge filtration of its complex cohomology is representable in the homotopy category of simplicial presheaves on smooth complex varieties. The main motivation are recent applications of homotopy theory to Deligne-Beilinson cohomology theories.

Pour les algebres commutatives a homotopit pres (algebres sur une resolution cofibrante de l'operade des algebres commutatives), on demontre en utilisant les formes differentielles generalisees que le modele de la fibre d'une application simpliciale est la cofibre du modele de ce morphisme. We construct functors of generalized differential forms. In the case of nilpotent spaces of finite type, they determine the weak homotopy type of the spaces. Moreover they are equipped, in an elementary and natural way, with the action of cup-i products. Working with commutative algebras up to homotopy (viewed as algebras over a cofibrant resolution of the operad of commutative algebras), we show using these functors that the model of the fiber of a simplicial map is the cofiber of the algebraic model of this map.

Abstract:In this paper, we study Frobenius structures in higher dimensional $p$-adic analytic geometry and the corresponding $p$-adic functional analysis. This will build up foundations for further study on some generalized cohomology of Frobenius modules and the corresponding generalized Iwasawa theory and generalized noncommutative Tamagawa number conjectures in the spirit of Burns-Flach-Fukaya-Kato and Nakamura (as well as certainly the original noncommutative Tamagawa number conjectures as observed by Pal-Zábrádi). We will work in the program proposed by Carter-Kedlaya-Zábrádi and after Pal-Zábrádi, and we will follow closely the approach from Kedlaya-Pottharst-Xiao to investigate the corresponding deformation of the generalized $p$-adic Hodge structures.

Abstract:We introduce global model categories as a general framework to capture several phenomena in global equivariant homotopy theory. We then construct genuine stabilizations of these, generalizing the usual passage from unstable to stable global homotopy theory. Finally, we define the global topological André-Quillen cohomology of an ultra-commutative ring spectrum and express it in terms of a genuine stabilization in our framework in analogy with the classical non-equivariant description obtained by Basterra and Mandell.
