Abstract:We give easy proofs that a) the Continuum Hypothesis implies that if the product of X with every Lindelof space is Lindelof, then X is a D-space, and b) Borel's Conjecture implies every Rothberger space is Hurewicz.

Abstract:The results in this paper answer three questions asked by (NOBLE, 2019) and give a partial answer to a question asked by (ALSTER, 1988). We prove that every Alster space is totally Lindelof and this gives a new characterization of regular Alster spaces. We construct a non-regular totally Lindelof space that is not Alster and we prove that there exists a Lindelof P-space that is not Frolik.

Abstract:Let X be a space and W = {W(x) : x is an element of X}, where each W(x) is a countable family of subsets containing x. If X has W satisfying: if x is an element of U and U is open, then there exists an open V = V(x, U) containing x such that x is an element of W subset of U for some W is an element of W(y) whenever y is an element of V, we say that the space X satisfies the Collins-Roscoe property. For simplicity, we call the Collins-Roscoe property (G) in the paper. A neighborhood assignment for a space X is a function cc from X to the topology of X such that x is an element of (phi(x) for all x is an element of X. A space X is said to be a D-space if for every neighborhood assignment phi for X, there exists a closed discrete subset D of X such that X = U{phi(d) : d is an element of D}. Spaces satisfying (G) are D-spaces. We show the following. (1) The preimage of a (monotone) D-space under a fiber-discrete mapping is a (monotone) D-space. (2) Any uncountable subspace of the Sorgenfrey line and the Alexandroff double arrow space do not satisfy (G); the Niemytzki plane is not meta-Lindelof. (3) A space satisfies (G) if and only if its Alexandroff duplicate does so. (4) A locally separable regular space satisfying open (G) is metrizable; a locally quasi-developable, hereditarily meta-Lindelof space has a point-countable base. (5) The Tychonoff product of a D-space and a D-c-space is a D-space. (6) Let X and Y be linearly ordered spaces and Y have the maximal point and the minimal point and satisfy (G). Then the lexicographical ordered product X x Y with the ordered topology satisfies (G) if and only if the r-ordered space (X, T-r) and the l-ordered space (X, T-l) satisfy (G). (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Inspired by recent work of A. Mardani which elaborates on the elementary fact that for any continuous function $f:\omega_1\times\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$, there is an $\alpha\in\omega_1$ such that $f(\langle\beta,x\rangle) = f(\langle\alpha,x\rangle)$ for all $\beta\ge\alpha$ and $x\in\mathbb{R}$, we introduce four properties $\mathsf{P}(X,Y)$, $\mathsf{P}\in\{\mathsf{EC},\mathsf{S},\mathsf{L},\mathsf{BR}\}$, which are different formalizations of the idea vaguely stated as "given a continuous $f:X\to Y$, there is a small subspace of $X$ outside of which $f$ does not do anything much new". We say that the spaces $X,Y$ satisfy the property $\mathsf{EC}(X,Y)$ (resp. $\mathsf{S}(X,Y)$) [resp. $\mathsf{L}(X,Y)$] iff given $f:X\to Y$, then there is a Lindelöf $Z\subset X$ such that $f(X-Z)$ is a singleton (resp. there is a retraction $r:X\to Z$ such that $f\circ r = f$) [resp. $f(Z) = f(X)$]. ($\mathsf{BR}(X,Y)$ is defined similarly.) We investigate the relations between these four and other classical topological properties. Two variants of each property are given depending on whether $Z$ can be chosen to be closed. Here is a sample of our results. An uncountable subspace $T$ of a tree of height $\omega_1$ is $\omega_1$-compact iff $\mathsf{S}(T,Y)$ holds for any metrizable space $Y$ of cardinality $>1$. If $M$ is a $\aleph_1$-strongly collectionwise Hausforff non-metrizable manifold satisfying either a weakening of $\mathsf{S}(M,\mathbb{R})$ or $\mathsf{EC}(M,\mathbb{R})$, then $M$ is $\omega_1$-compact. The property $\mathsf{L}(M,\mathbb{R})$ holds for any manifold while $\mathsf{L}(M,\mathbb{R}^2)$ does not. Under PFA, a locally compact countably tight space $Y$ for which $\mathsf{EC}(\omega_1,Y)$ holds is isocompact, while there are counterexamples under $\clubsuit_C$. Some of our results are restatements of other researchers work put in our context.

Abstract:We define a topological space to be an "SDL space" if the closure of each one of its strongly discrete subsets is Lindelöf. After distinguishing this property from the Lindelöf property we make various remarks about cardinal invariants of SDL spaces. For example we prove that $|X| \leq 2^{\chi(X)}$ for every SDL Urysohn space and that every SDL $P$-space of character $\leq \omega_1$ is regular and has cardinality $\leq 2^{\omega_1}$. Finally, we exploit our results to obtain some partial answers to questions about the cardinality of cellular-Lindelöf spaces.

Abstract:We show that every regular T1 submeta-Lindelöf space of cardinality ω1 is D under MA+¬CH, which answers a question posed by Gruenhage (2011) [9]. Borges (1991) [5] asked if every monotonically normal paracompact space is a D-space, we give a characterization of paracompactness for monotonically normal spaces, which may be of some use in solving this problem.

This article gives a class of handy examples of a second countable collectionwise normal collectionwise Hausdorff T 0 space of uncountable cardinal, with at most countably many singletons being not closed, that is not a D -space. Also given is a class of handy examples of a second countable hyperconnected T 0 space of uncountable cardinal, with at most countably many singletons being not closed, that is not a D -space.

Abstract:The authors' primary goal in this paper is to enhance the study of topological spaces by using the order of specialization of a -space to introduce the lower topology (with a subbasis of closed sets ) and studying the interaction of the original topology and the lower topology. Using the lower topology, one can define and study new properties of the original space that provide deeper insight into its structure. One focus of study is the property R, which asserts that if the intersection of a family of finitely generated sets , finite, is contained in an open set , then the same is true for finitely many of the family. We first show that property R is equivalent to several other interesting properties, for example, the property that all closed subsets of the original space are compact in the lower topology. We then find conditions under which these spaces are compact, well-filtered, and coherent, a weaker variant of stably compact spaces. We also investigate what have been called strong -spaces, develop some of their basic properties, and make connections with the earlier considerations involving spaces satisfying property R. Two key results we obtain are that if a dcpo with the Scott topology is a strong -space, then it is well-filtered, and if additionally the Scott topology of the product is the product of the Scott topologies of the factors, then the Scott space of is sober. We also exhibit connections of this work with de Groot duality.

Abstract:We define a new structure on a space endowed with convexities, and call it a fractoconvex structure (or, a space with fractoconvexity). We introduce two operations on a set of fractoconvexities and in a special case we show that they satisfy the laws for a distributive lattice. We establish a connection between fractoconvex sets and convex sets using the concept of independent convexities, based on the possibility of representing a fractoconvex set as the intersection of its convex hulls. Finally, we consider some examples of fractoconvexities on the 2-sphere and on $\mathbb Z$.

Abstract:A topological space (X, tau) is a D-space if for every function phi: X -> tau with x is an element of phi(x) for each x is an element of X, {phi(x) : x is an element of F} covers X for some closed discrete subset F of X. The Michael line M, one of the most important elementary examples in general topology, is the Euclidean space IR isolating the irrationals. In this note we show that (1) the minimal dense linearly ordered extension of M is hereditarily paracompact, but not monotonically D; (2) the minimal closed linearly ordered extension of M is monotonically D; (3) if the space X is a D-space (resp., a monotone D-space), then so is its Alexandroff duplicate space A(X) and thus A(M) is monotonically D.

Abstract:We study a variant of extremal disconnectedness in frames, defined by requiring that any two disjoint open sublocales should be separable by disjoint open sublocales each of which is the interior of some zero-sublocale. In spaces, this notion was recently introduced in [1] in order to study some properties of frames of z -ideals of rings of continuous functions. The point-free approach adopted here brings to the fore some topological results not considered in [1], such as that a dense z -embedded subspace of a Tychonoff space has this property if and only if the space containing it has the property. In [1], this was proved only for the embedding X ⊆ βX . We give a ring-theoretic characterization by defining a property of f -rings in a transparent manner which shows why the property should be defined the way we do. The property is that if two annihilator ideals meet trivially, then the annihilator of each of the annihilator ideals contains a positive element such that the sum of the two elements is a non-zerodivisor.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the concept of infinite dense-lineability recently introduced by M. Calderón-Moreno, P. Gerlach-Mena and J. Prado-Bassas. We answer a question posed by the authors about the equivalence between infinite (pointwise) dense-lineability and (pointwise) dense-lineability. We prove that the equivalence always holds in first-countable topological vector spaces and under some assumptions about the weight of the topology. However, the equivalence is not always true, as shown in an example. Furthermore, we introduce the notions of infinite $(\alpha,\beta)$-dense-lineability and infinite (strongly) dense-algebrability and obtain some analogous results in these cases. We also obtain a criterion for strongly dense-algebrability for sets of the form $X\setminus Y$, where $X$ is a free algebra and $Y$ is a free subalgebra of $X$.
