Abstract:The next generation tau-charm factory, the third Beijing Electron Spectrometer (BESIII) at the new Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII), has begun data collection. I discuss the flavor physics reach of the BESIII charm program and conclude with a discussion on future proposed tau-charm facilities.

We discuss recent progress in charm spectroscopy and the multitude of mesonic and baryonic exotic states containing charm quarks. Abstract:Recent progress in charmonium and exotic states has been reported in this proceeding. Using the data samples collected by the BESIII experiment, the mass and width of Y states have been extensively studied in hidden and open charm channels. The processes of e+e− → hηc, e+e− → ηψ(2S ) and e+e− → ωχc1(2) are used in the search for new charmonium states. Additionally, new measurements of the X(3872) and the search for C-even states with radiative transition are presented.

Using a large dataset from [math] annihilation, BESIII has conducted comprehensive and extensive studies in the areas of hadronic, leptonic and semileptonic decays. This proceeding presents an overview of the recent researches and discoveries by BESIII on decays of charmed baryons, charmed mesons and charmonium states, highlighting their significance in advancing the understanding of new physics, experimental determination of physical parameters and improvement of measurement precision.

Abstract:Precision measurements in charm physics offer a window into a unique sector of potential New Physics interactions. LHCb is poised to become a world leading experiment for charm physics, recording enormous samples with a detector tailored for flavor physics. This article presents recent charm production, CPV, and mixing studies from LHCb, including LHCb's first charm CP asymmetry measurement with 37 pb^-1 of data collected in 2010.

Abstract:A high-luminosity Super -Charm Factory (STCF) will be a crucial facility for charm physics research, particularly in the precise measurement of electro-weak parameters, measuring - mixing parameters, investigating CP violation within the charm sector, searching for rare and forbidden decays of charmed hadrons, and addressing other foundational questions related to charmed hadrons. With world-largest charm threshold data, it aims to achieve high sensitivity of studying the strong phase of neutral mesons using quantum correlation, complementing studies at LHCb and Belle II, and contributing to the understanding of CP violation globally. STCF will also enable world-leading precision in leptonic decays of charmed mesons and baryons, providing constraints on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and strong force dynamics. Additionally, STCF will explore the charmed hadron spectroscopy. STCF's advanced detector and clean experimental environment will allow for unprecedented precision, helping address key challenges in the Standard Model and searching for potential new physics.

Abstract:Hadron spectroscopy is one of the most important physics goals of BESIII. BESIII brings great opportunities to study the XYZ states of charmonium by directly producing the Y states up to 4.6 GeV. High statistics of charmonium decays collected at BESIII provide an excellent place for hunting gluonic excitations and studying the excited baryons. Recent results of light hadron spectroscopy and charmonium spectroscopy from BESIII will be reported.

Abstract:This physics book provides detailed discussions on important topics in $\tau$-charm physics that will be explored during the next few years at \bes3 . Both theoretical and experimental issues are covered, including extensive reviews of recent theoretical developments and experimental techniques. Among the subjects covered are: innovations in Partial Wave Analysis (PWA), theoretical and experimental techniques for Dalitz-plot analyses, analysis tools to extract absolute branching fractions and measurements of decay constants, form factors, and CP-violation and \DzDzb-oscillation parameters. Programs of QCD studies and near-threshold tau-lepton physics measurements are also discussed.

Abstract:The cornerstone of the Chinese experimental particle physics program consists of a series of experiments performed in the tau-charm energy region. China began building e+e- colliders at the Institute for High Energy Physics in Beijing more than three decades ago. Beijing Electron Spectrometer, BES, is the common root name for the particle physics detectors operated at these machines. The development of the BES program is summarized and highlights of the physics results across several topical areas are presented.

Abstract:In this talk, we present the recent results on charmonium decays from the BES experiment at the BEPC collider. The analyses are based on a 14 million psi(2S) events data sample. We report results on leptonic decays, hadronic decays, and radiative decays of psi(2S), as well as hadronic decays of chi_cJ states and rare or forbidden decays of J/psi.

Abstract:In the past twenty years, many new hadrons that are difficult to be explained within the conventional quark model have been discovered in the quarkonium region, which are called exotic hadrons. Belle II experiment, as the next-generation $B$ factory, provides a good platform to explore them. The charmonium-like states can be produced at Belle II in several ways, such as $B$ meson decays, initial-state radiation processes, two-photon collisions, and double charmonium productions. The bottomonium-like states can be produced directly in $e^+e^-$ colliding energies at Belle II with low continuum backgrounds. Belle II plans to perform a high-statistics energy scan from the $B\bar B$ threshold up to the highest possible energy of 11.24 GeV to search for new $Y_b$ states with $J^{PC}$ = $1^{--}$, $X_b$ (the bottom counterpart of $\chi_{c1}(3872)$ (also known as $X(3872)$)), and partners of $Z_b$ states. In this paper, we give a mini-review on the status and prospects of exotic hadrons at Belle II.

Abstract:Abstract A comprehensive review of weak decays of charmed hadrons (D0/ +, $D^+_s$ and $\Lambda ^+_c$) based on analyses of the threshold data from e+e− annihilation in the BESIII experiment is presented. Current experimental challenges and successes in understanding decays of the charmed hadrons are discussed. Precise calibrations of quantum chromodynamics and tests of the standard model are provided by measurements of purely leptonic and semi-leptonic decays of charmed hadrons, and lepton universality is probed in purely leptonic decays of charmed mesons to three generations of leptons. Quantum correlations in threshold data samples provide access to strong phases in the neutral D meson decays and probe the decay dynamics of the charmed Λc baryon. Charm physics studies with near-threshold production of charmed particle pairs are unique to BESIII, and provide many important opportunities and challenges.

Abstract:Operation of the B-Factories (PEP-II and KEKB) has been very successful, both having exceeded their design peak and integrated luminosity and provided a huge amount of good data to the experiments. Proposal for upgrades, in order to achieve about two order of magnitude larger luminosity, are in progress in Japan, with Super-KEKB, and in Europe, with SuperB. Very high beam intensity, very short bunch length and low Interaction Point beta-functions are the key points of the Japanese design, very challenging for the hardware components (RF, vacuum). On the other hand SuperB exploits a new collision scheme, namely large Piwinski angle and "crab waist", which will allow to reach a luminosity two order of magnitude larger without increasing beam currents and decreasing bunch lengths. In this talk the present status of the two projects will be reviewed.

Abstract:This invited summary gives some concluding remarks regarding theoretical aspects of the research presented at Charm2010. I will specialize to the role of theory and the relative reach of theory and experiment in three of the major areas of charm physics address at this conference, specifically 1) charm production, 2) charm weak decays, and 3) charm hadron spectroscopy. After a discussion of the status of progress on representative topics in each of these areas I will conclude with a previously unrelated Feynman story from a conference in the early days of charm.

Abstract:The standard model of particle physics is a well-tested theoretical framework, but there are still a number of issues that deserve further experimental and theoretical investigation. For quark physics, such questions include: the nature of quark confinement, the mechanism that connects the quarks and gluons of the standard model theory to the strongly interacting particles; and the weak decays of quarks, which may provide insights into new physics mechanisms responsible for the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe. These issues are addressed by the Beijing Spectrometer III (BESIII) experiment at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider II (BEPCII) storage ring, which for the past decade has been studying particles produced in electron-positron collisions in the tau-charm energy-threshold region, and has by now accumulated the world's largest datasets that enables searches for nonstandard hadrons, weak decays of the charmed particles, and new physics phenomena beyond the standard model. Here, we review the contributions of BESIII to such studies and discuss future prospects for BESIII and other experiments.
