Abstract:Career counseling has a long and illustrious past, dating back to the contributions of Frank Parsons and including notable theories and substantial research related to career development. In the practice of career counseling, however, there is not substantial evidence about what works with which clients under what conditions. In the next 10 years, there will be opportunities to provide career assistance through novel means to reach more individuals; however, some of these opportunities, such as the Internet, can also have adverse effects if not used appropriately. The author also discusses a vision that involves a resurgence of theory, research, and practice related to career counseling.

Abstract:With the rapid development of society and the dramatic change of environment, previous career counseling focusing on personal choice has been difficult to meet individuals’ needs. It is very meaningful and valuable to introduce the ideology of Life Design Counseling (LDC). In this mini review, we introduce and analyze the theory and methodology of LDC. This review puts forward challenges in the field of LDC, including the lack of attention to clients from multiple backgrounds and professional counselors, the lack of diversified methods in the intervention process, and the lack of diversified research. The theoretical research, practical research, and the integration of theory and practice of LDC still need to be further concerned by researchers.

Abstract:In this study, the authors used case notes to classify client concerns that surfaced during career counseling with adults in a university‐sponsored community counseling center. A two‐stage classification system was developed and used to estimate the frequencies of occurrence for career and personal issues that surface during career counseling. The authors concluded that a substantial overlap exists between the content of career counseling and that of psychotherapy.

Abstract:This chapter focuses on the two main trends in contemporary thinking on career counseling: more traditional career guidance and counseling, and career counseling within the life design paradigm that is becoming increasingly important in career counseling. Career counseling can be seen as a specific application of counseling psychology. The career counseling profession is both large and highly influential in the sense that many individuals rely on counselors to guide them in their career decisions and help them find meaning and purpose in their careers. The relationship element of the working alliance seems to be particularly important for career counseling effectiveness. Career counseling as a specific application of psychology and as part of the broader field of counseling psychology represents a varied array of types of career interventions in which diverse groups of clients are supported in various concerns about educational, vocational, and career issues.

Abstract:This systematic review aimed to review empirical research on leftist counseling careers with AI. This research applied SLR and evaluated Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Crossref databases. The results showed n = 43 on Scopus, n = 3 on PubMed, n = 70 on Google Scholar and n = 3000 on Crossref. After PRISMA analysis, n = 14 studies were included in the review. Studies examining career counseling with AI: (Carson et al., 1999; Crowley, 1992; Guleria & Sood, 2023; Hendahewa et al., 2006; José-García et al., 2022; Joshi et al., 2020; Lee et al., 2018; Liu, 2023; Nazareno et al., 2019; Suresh et al., 2021; Westman et al., 2021a; Yan et al., 2019; Zhang et al., 2022; Zhang & Zheng, 2022). The manuscripts' publication years also varied: 1992, 1999, 2006, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. This study was conducted in Namibia, the USA, the UK, China, Romania, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, South Korea, and Finland. System: computer algorithm, artificial neural network, AIED, C3-IoC, Facebook Messenger, iAdvice, and online career counselor system (Chatbot and machine learning). Objectives: career prediction, career matching with companies, career selection, career guidance, and career decision-making. Requirements: AI supports students in study and career planning, self-management, and accessible and timely advice, whether delivered by AI or humans. AI is a technical subject with personal, career, and social implications; it is essential for developing academic and professional thinking and career planning in the AI era.

Abstract:The article reviews the issues of career counseling for adolescents with health problems. Goal. Show the possibilities and share the experience of providing career advice with focus on health to adolescents with health problems in the settings of primary health care establishments. Patients and methods. Nine hundred forty schoolchildren were counseled in the career advice room. The participants were divided into 3 groups: group 1 — participants with disabilities since early childhood, group 2 — children with chronic diseases, group 3 — children at risk of developing chronic diseases. The inclusion criteria were: status of a schoolchild, signed and submitted informed consent form, lack of exposure to occupational hazards. The conducted study does not endanger the participants and complies with the biomedical ethics requirements. Statistica 10.0 software was used for statistical processing of the data collected. Based on the results of this work and review of the relevant publications, authors of the study suggest a structure of the health- centric career advice service. Conclusions Career advice that factors in health aspects is an important link in medical and psychological rehabilitation aimed at helping the teenager to adapt to current socio-e conomic conditions and realize his/her physical and intellectual capabilities.

Abstract:The authors, using a cocoon maintenance or metamorphosis metaphor, articulate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and future vision for career counseling. Major strengths in career counseling include the growth and development of career theory, research, and practice. Weaknesses are identified in terms of career counseling practices that maintain localized career standards. Opportunities exist for the profession to assist clients in redefining their careers on the basis of ownership and life stories. The continued devaluation of career counseling in counselor education programs is seen as a threat. The authors conclude with their vision for the future for the discipline and profession of career counseling.

Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior

Abstract:This article provides a critical review of developments in the literature on career success. We review work from both the organizational psychology (OP) and organizational behavior (OB) disciplines, highlighting the different perspectives, strengths, and weaknesses of each area and attempt to reconcile these perspectives on career success to suggest productive new research directions. First, the article reflects on conceptualizations of objective and subjective career success and their relative value to the field. We then discuss several categories of career success predictors drawn from economic, sociological, and social-psychological perspectives used in OP and OB. These include human capital, internal and external labor markets, sponsorship and social capital, stable and malleable individual differences, and career self-management behaviors. We provide research suggestions within each of those sections as well as an integrative research agenda built around several emerging issues and theoretical perspective, encouraging future research on the implications of sustainable careers, career shocks, marginalized group experiences, and alternative employment arrangements for career success. Abstract:Career counseling is a career development initiative in which career education is provided to workers by career counselors to help them appreciate their motivations, explain their objectives, commit to action, navigate career transitions, and learn how they can contribute to the organization's overall effectiveness. The fundamental aims of counseling are to foster behavioral improvement, support decision-making, facilitate the capacity of clients, develop coping skills and improve relationships. Employee performance is a major challenge in organizational management and the key goal of any business enterprise is to take steps to inspire workers to deliver and achieve organizational competitiveness. This study sought to establish the effects of career counselling practices on employee performance in Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company Limited (MUWASCO) in Murang’a County in Kenya. Specifically the study sought to establish the extent to which career coaching, career guidance and counseling programs have influenced employee performance in MUWASCO. The study was guided by trait and factor theory. Descriptive survey research design was adopted in the study. The target population was 150 employees and the researcher employed census sampling technique. The data collection instrument was self-administered questionnaires. Absolute forms of mean, standard deviation and percentages were employed in descriptive analysis. Regression analysis was used to establish the relationship between dependent and the independent variables of the study. The response rate was 85% hence reliability and validity of the study. From the analysis it was observed that the organization has implemented career counseling and this positively contributed to employee performance. A positive and significant relationship between the variables under investigation was demonstrated. The researcher recommends that the organization under study should formulate a clear policy on career coaching to help workers define their personal goals, prepare their career plans and address their needs. The study also suggests provision of adequate information on career guidance and a career guidance policy directed towards enhancing the competencies of workers.

Abstract:School psychology professionals rely on professional literature to access information on scientifically supported practices. Counseling is certainly one of those practices. The purpose of this review was to determine how many articles published in prominent peer-reviewed school psychology journals have addressed providing effective counseling services to children and youth. We wanted to determine the types of counseling approaches that were described in those articles and which approaches garnered the most attention. Findings revealed that there were relatively few articles about counseling in prominent school psychology journals. Interestingly, most studies employed quantitative rather than qualitative designs and analyses. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) was the approach that was implemented the most in empirical studies across the school psychology journals. Empirical studies mainly included elementary and middle school students from diverse racial and ethnic groups who were receiving counseling services in a small group (tier 2) format. Implications for the profession of school psychology are provided.

Abstract:The American School Counseling Association has continuously defined school counselors as having a role in the classroom across four different iterations of the ASCA Model. And yet, the amount of scholarly production is limited along with the amount of time school counselors report actually spending time in the classroom with students. Further, the social‐emotional learning (SEL) movement, among others, has encouraged the utilization of teachers in classrooms to provide lessons and interventions related to the social‐emotional development of students rather than school counselors who have been trained to do so. The current study examines the literature on school counselor‐facilitated classroom interventions over the past 30 years utilizing systematic review procedures to do so. The results indicate that only 40 classroom intervention studies have been published in peer‐reviewed journals over the past 30 years. Implications for counselor education scholars and school counselors are discussed.

An illustrative example provides a detailed description of a career counseling group for practitioners in schools to reference in their own approach to career group counseling. Practical and theoretical considerations and implications for this work are discussed.</span>

Abstract:In an effort to examine counseling psychology in its current state of development, we conducted a national survey of counseling psychologists. A 6-page questionnaire, which examined such variables as demographics, professional activities, institutional affiliations, and training satisfaction, was mailed to 980 members of Division 17 (Counseling) of the American Psychological Association (APA). Of these, 716 (73%) usable questionnaires were returned. For our sample, counseling psychologists were found (a) to spend the majority of their professional time providing individual psychotherapy, (b) to be primarily eclectic in theoretical orientation, (c) to be increasingly identified with the work setting of private practice; and (d) to be generally satisfied with their graduate and internship training. Additional information about counseling psychologists' professional self-views, research and publication efforts, career satisfaction, and satisfaction with the APA was also obtained. The findings are discussed in relation to the present and future of counseling psychology.
