Influence of family environment on perceived social support of patients with mental illness

Abstract:Objective:To explore influence of family environment on perceived social support of patients with mental illness.Methods:68 inpatients with mental illness were administered by family environment scale( FES-CV) and perceived social support scale(PSSS). Results: The total perceived social support of the patients with mental illness was positively and significantly correlated to family cohesion,emotion expression and moral-religious emphasis(r = 0. 26,P 0. 05; r = 0. 25,P 0. 05; r = 0. 26,P 0.05). The family support was positively and significantly correlated to family cohesion andemotion expression(r = 0. 29,P 0. 05; r =0. 35,P 0. 01),and other supports were positively and significantly correlated to moral-religious emphasis(r = 0. 35,P 0. 01).Conclusions: The higher family cohesion,the more smooth emotion expression,and the more emphasis on moral and religion lead to the higher of the perceived social support of the patients with mental illness.
