Levels of heavy metals in some popular brands of cigarettes marketed in Al-Bayda- Libya

Abstract:Three commonly smoked cigarette brands from the Libyan market were randomly chosen and evaluated for heavy metals using Atomic Adsorption Spectrometry (type of local in Libya, type of more the trade in Libya, and type of global imported L&N, KENT, and MANCHESTER are among the brands available. The concentrations of Pb and Cd were determined to be in the range of 0.93-0. 99 mg/L and 0.68-0.82 mg/L, respectively, according to the findings of the analysis. In comparison to the Cd metal, Pb concentrations were highest in all brands, whereas cadmium concentrations were lowest in MANCHESTER and highest in L&N. In general, the levels of metal content in all of the brands were excessive when compared to WHO standards. The findings not only emphasized the dangers of cigarette smoking, but also the potential toxicity of heavy metals in each brand of cigarette. Keywords: Metals, Toxicity,
