Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the current status and perception of cultural diversity in Korea. In particular, questions were asked about the expected effects of cultural diversity promotion, perceptions of discrimination by minorities, and acceptance of minority groups as family members and neighbours. To achieve the research objectives, a survey was conducted among 202 adults living in D-gu, Seoul. The results of the survey are as follows First, the average perception of the effects of promoting cultural diversity was that cultural and artistic competitiveness would be strengthened, and the average perception of the effects of promoting politics and democracy was lower. Second, when asked whether minority groups were discriminated against by the community, respondents said that there was no discrimination against youth, women, and children, but there was discrimination against LGBT, Chinese compatriots (Koreans), and foreign workers. Third, the acceptance of family members and neighbours by minority groups was lower for LGBT, Chinese compatriots (Koreans), and refugees. Based on the results of the survey, further research and implications were discussed.
