Abstract:With the fast progress of digital technology and shifts in how people consume and disseminate culture, the public is more open to dynamic films and interactive works than ever before. Is there potential for creativity in the educational aim of the museum, which is to popularize heritage? Apart from physical displays, are there any alternative means for the museum’s collection of ancient artworks to be displayed? The essay investigates the application of digital audio-visual technology to the presentation of museum paintings and calligraphy, using as a case study the digital interactive scroll Prosperous Scenes of the Southern Capital at Nanjing Museum. It examines the techniques employed, from data gathering to picture restoration, dynamic interactive design, and the incorporation of music and sound effects, as well as the resulting advancements in sound, dynamic image, and interactive experience. Additionally, it analyzes the possibility of establishing other forms of legacy exhibitions based on digital technologies. Finally, in light of media convergence, it investigates new and diverse communication methods that are acceptable for modern museum presentations.
