Abstract:Research Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of secretary competence, self-esteem and self-efficacy on work readiness in final semester students, especially in the department of office administration education, Jakarta State University. Design/Methodology/Approach: This research uses quantitative methodology. Research Findings: Basically, job readiness is an important thing for students who will graduate and have been declared graduated from college. Work readiness indicates that there is an individual transformation of students from the world of education to the company sector and are ready to face the world of work. One of the students' job readiness can be influenced by soft skills, which can be seen that soft skills are needed in aspects of planning and the job search process and success in pursuing a job career. In the current era of the industrial revolution 4.0, students are expected to be ready for all conditions in the field, they must be mentally and intellectually tested and intellectual. Instead of providing job readiness soft skills, skills, knowledge, organizational or work experience are also highly seen by employers. Because from a worker who is ready to carry out the assigned work and is responsible, human resources emerge who are ready to build a company well and to increase competitiveness for other offices.The purpose of this study is to obtain empirical data on variables that affect the job readiness of final year students majoring in office administration education UNJ, as for the specific research objectives, namely: knowing the influence of secretarial competence self esteem and self efficacy.

Abstract:Strategic corporate governance is important in the affairs of every tertiary institution across the world. These are places where knowledge and scientific truth are generated. This paper examined the impact of effective communication and its transmission from all levels of an institution’s hierarchy as a requirement for good governance and leadership in the area of conflict management and resolution in our higher educational institutions. This paper adopted the following theories: Bales Theory of Group Communication, Social relation and Symbolic interaction theories. Fifteen officers were interviewed and questionnaire was administered on 432 students and 62 academic members of staff. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics (ex-post facto) white explanation building through thematic analysis was used for the qualitative data. Interpersonal communication, electronic-mail informal group discussions and interview were significant sources of communication F (5,488) = 265.07, (R2 = 72.8%). Effective communication and conflict management were significant strategies (X2 = 281.06) to management in solving problems. Conflict is a natural and vital part of life and inevitable in every human environment and, therefore, Technical universities managers and administrator including all stakeholders ought to genuinely search for reliable communication and knowledge during crises as a panacea to managing and controlling rising crisis and its attendant consequences. Government budgetary allocation is a huge investment on university education. There must, therefore, be peace, order and harmony in these campuses in order that they might accomplish the vision and mission for which they have been established in the quest to contribute to the national development agenda as enshrined in the Technical University (Act 2016, Act 922). This paper recommends that manager, administrators and stakeholders of Technical University should always apply openness in communication and the principles of creative cooperation in human relationships.

Abstract:Self-development is an important aspect of the secretarial profession, which is expected to help the secretary to be competent in the profession. It is because of this that the researcher undertook a research into the significance of self development to a secretary's competency in an organization. Accordingly, the research made use of questionnaire. One hundred copies of the questionnaire were distributed to secretaries who are staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi. Data gathered was analyzed using the mean statistic via the Likert type rating scale. The findings of the study revealed that secretaries need self-development in information and computer technology, which the present secretarial curriculum emphasizes. The researchers therefore, concludes that no secretary can successfully exist in any fully automated office without developing his skills in information and computer technology. Finally, the researcher recommends among others that a secretary should be self motivated and find out areas where he/she needs self development in order to develop their skills for competencies.

Abstract:Secretaries, otherwise known as office professionals, office information managers, administrative assistants, office coordinators, executive assistants, office managers, among other nomenclatures, are becoming more and more relevant in today’s offices due to their specialty in general office administration and keeping up to date with technological advancements. This paper considers the fundamentals and indispensability of the office professional in the 21st century. The paper considered professional secretaries and modern digital skills, training and retraining of secretaries for the 21st century, indispensability of the professional secretary in the 21st century, challenges facing the profession and how to be an effective and efficient office professional in the 21st century. The paper concluded that the supportive roles of the office professional are very fundamental and cannot be dispensed with in organisations which make them indispensable in the 21st century. It was recommended, among others, that organisations should provide enabling environment for office professionals in order to get the best from them

Abstract:The paper discusses the distinction between the professional and non-professional secretary and identifies the professional secretary as an invaluable asset to any organization. It describes the professional secretary as an indispensable assistant to the executive without whom the executive cannot function optimally. It highlights the qualities of the professional secretary and some of the executive functions. The paper stresses the need for proper secretarial training in institutions and recommends that it be made to meet both modern and global work standard. It concludes that qualitative training would remove impostors from the profession and project the right image for the practitioners.

Abstract:This study was conducted out to examine the effect of conflict and the strategies employed by the leadership to manage it in Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state, Nigeria. These were with the view to providing information on the challenges of conflicts and its management in tertiary institutions. Primary and secondary data were used to evaluate the effects of conflict in line with the strategies employed to mitigate it. The primary data were collected through the administration of copies of the questionnaire, while Secondary data were obtained through textbooks, journals, internet documents and official publications. The sum of one hundred and eighty-six (186) copies of the questionnaire were randomly distributed to the respondents. The data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed descriptively using frequency distribution and standard deviation. This study revealed that delay in graduation of students, wastage of time on management staff and students as well as loss of trust by the staff on the institution management late payment of remunerations are the major effects of conflicts in the institution. Furthermore, major strategies employed by the management were collective bargaining and allocation of resources. The study concluded that the strategies employed by the management Ekiti State University had not adequately met its goal.

Abstract:Effective communication is crucial for institutional success as the globe becomes a smaller and more interconnected community. In recent times, Information technology has significantly improved how employees and employers interact with each other. Effective and efficient communication is achieved when institutions adopt new and faster technologies that improve the performance of employees. This research empirically tests the impact of effective communication on institutional performance in the educational sector, specifically in Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Questionnaires were administered to sample respondents which comprised of Principal officers, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, academic and senior non-academic staff. ANOVA and factor analysis were used to assess the structural relationship between the variables at a 5% level of significance. A total of 180 respondents (25 academic staff and 155 non-academic staff members) from fourteen (14) different departments/units participated in this study. The findings of this study revealed that effective communication via the studied variables has a significantly positive effect on employee performance Four key variables (Communication Process (t = 4.003, β = 1.786, p = 0.00); Culture/Climate (t = 3.316, β = 1.483, p = .001); Verbal and Non-verbal Cues (t = 1.990, β= .832, p = .047); and Communication Techniques (t = 5.092, β = 1.808, p = .000)) were determinants of employee effective communication in an institution. The findings revealed that effective communication process were significantly related to organizational performance. The researchers recommends that every institution should make an effort to incorporate effective communication into its management strategies, as doing so will help reduce organizational conflict, clear up misunderstandings, and improve cordial relationship between management and workforce.

Abstract:According to CEDEFOP (2014) an educational qualification type is a group of titles/diplomas and/or certificates within a country, sharing similar characteristics in terms of level, duration of related education pathway, and level of labour market entry. Within a qualification type, there are many different qualifications according to content. Qualification is an indication of trust in someone’s personal capabilities (Cedefop, 2012). It is usually a degree, diploma or certificate awarded by a competent authority in recognition that particular programme or qualification outcomes have been achieved following the successful completion of a recognized higher education programme of study (QAA, 2014). A qualification can be a legal entitlement to practice a trade (OECD, 2007). Work or job performance has been used to define employees’ ability to complete assigned duties according to organizational set rules and procedures occasioned by the normal constraints of reasonable utilization of available resources (Ogunley & Osekita, 2016). Fundamentally, performance has been viewed as an evaluation of the results of a person’s behaviour, and it involves determining the behavioural actions on how well or poorly a person has accomplished a task or done a job. It had been concluded as Lussier (2010) believes that to attain high levels of performance by both employees and managers, it is important that organizations to warrant that their employees have the requisite qualifications, the abilities, and the resources to meet organizations objectives. The results of the study proved that there is a strong relationship between educational qualification and job performance. It has been found by 80% of the study’s respondents that by virtue of their educational qualification, they are able to come up with new ideas to perform their jobs very well. Subsequently, when employees’ performance is not at the standard level or above the level set, then organizational leaders have the responsibility to determine which performance factors need to be improved, and what strategies are adopted to improve them. Consequently, administrative staff and employees in general should think of the current gap and challenge within their career path and decide the best program that will help to meet such needs. Finally, to improve the nexus of academic qualifications and job performance, this study recommended that special incentives and grants be made available, as well as be the drivers behind their staff pursuing higher educational qualification. Abstract:The current patronages in the dyeing industry recent are going down and discouraging due to the black box effect of the dyes’ fastness and their reactive quality. This was not on unconnected with the exits of the older generations who are better adjudged experienced and well knowledgeable in the ionic and covalent bond structures of the existing ranges of fabrics in the market. This is done by making the right choice of the reactive dyes combinations or their preparations and applying the appropriate processing technologies implying skill issues. The broad objective of this study was to examine the effect of skill acquisition on the dyeing industry while the specific objective includes first investigating the effect of high education on the marginal returns in the dyeing industry. The second specific objective was to examine the effect of practice on the marginal returns in the industry. These two variables are considered crucial to organizational effective performance, particularly, in the dyeing industry. This survey was based on the population of 146 respondents drawn from the five zones (A to E, Abeokuta South Local Government) in the industry. The research method was quantitative. The research design was a cross-sectional one. The analysis technique used for the study was the multiple regression analysis. Stratified sampling techniques were adopted to carry out the research survey.The study revealed that practice as a variable had a very strong effect (found to be 0.2) on the marginal returns in the dyeing industry. High education also had a significant effect (abstracted to be 0.05) on the marginal returns in the dyeing industry. The study concluded that skill acquisition had a significant effect on the performance of the dyeing industry in terms of the marginal returns in the industry and therefore recommended that technical education should be subsidized or be free. Government should also encourage secondary and tertiary levels of education by an increase in the budget share of high vocational education. Measures for individuals, corporate organizations, and government revitalizing and preferring technical, and vocational training (TVET) to complement the conventional education type should be instituted by the policymakers, and the decision drivers, which will go a long way to aid the unemployed especially the university graduates as well as the other army of the jobless people.

Abstract:Administrators are an important human resource in Higher Education because they perform various duties that are critical to the daily operations of universities. In light of this, organisational commitment and job satisfaction of administrators are essential for the efficiency and effectiveness of universities. Notwithstanding the critical relevance and necessity of organisational commitment and job satisfaction, there is evidence of paucity of research on these areas among administrative staff in the South African higher education sector. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between organisational commitment and overall job satisfaction on the organisational commitment of administrators at a university in Gauteng. To achieve the aforementioned objective, a quantitative survey approach was used to examine the relationship between overall job satisfaction and organisational commitment. The selfadministered structured questionnaires were issued to 383 administrative staff members. Descriptive statistics was utilised to assess the levels of both organisational commitment and job satisfaction, results of which revealed that administrators were satisfied with and committed to the university. Spearmanâ€TMs rho correlation analysis showed that there was a strong correlation between affective commitment and job satisfaction; and moderate correlations between job satisfaction and moral imperative. Similar strong correlation was observed between indebted obligation and job satisfaction. Conversely, a weak correlation occurred between job satisfaction and continuance commitment. Regression coefficients indicated that job satisfaction contributed positively to the prediction of affective commitment, moral imperative, indebted obligation and continuance commitment. Based on these findings, the recommendations and future research opportunities were suggested.

Abstract:The present level of technological advancement in 4.0 business and industry revolution has required the professional secretaries to adapt their knowledge/skills/work style in line with these technological explosions in records creation/management/processing/storage as well as the record maintenance and retrieval. The objective of the study is to find out the industry requirements of the secretarial profession in order to align them with the curriculum and classroom training of the secretarial students. The 39 criteria of 4.0 industrial revolution characteristics of “knowledge, skills, and work-styles attitude” in form of a questionnaire was distributed to 38 samples of executives. Quantitative as well as qualitative methods and descriptive analysis were used to analyze the data. The result shows that the most important aspect of an office secretarial competency is attitude (M=4.50; SD=0.77), followed by skill (M=4.44; SD=0.83), knowledge (M=4.14; SD=0.90). The study recommends that the development of secretarial professional education must be based on correctly handle the relationship between theoretical classroom teaching, practical office training with the emphasizes on systematically incorporate the 4.0 professional attitude with the skills and knowledge as proposed by industries

Abstract:Purpose Addressing the challenges of financial sustainability in tertiary institutions through the adoption of technology was the central motivation of this study. Hence, the authors assessed the direct effect of the adoption of electronic payment system (EPS) on financial sustainability and the indirect mediating influence of technological capabilities on this relation. Design/methodology/approach Sample of 223 non-academic employees in twelve higher institutions were selected. The authors used primary data through the use of a questionnaire for data collection. Partial least square structural equation model (SmartPLSv3) was used for the analysis of the study. Findings The adoption of electronic payment system was shown to have a significantly positive effect on financial sustainability of tertiary institutions. It was also found that technological capabilities affect financial sustainability of tertiary institutions and technological capabilities mediate the relationship between the adoption of electronic payment solution and financial sustainability of tertiary institutions. Practical implications The study advances the need for incorporating technology as a measure in advancing the internal financial management practices of tertiary institutions in developing economies. Originality/value The authors developed a model that advances a new perspective to higher education financial sustainability through advocating for technological capabilities development as a channel to ensure liquidity and solvency of higher education, most especially in developing economies.

Abstract:Evolutions in information and communication technologies (ICTs) necessitated new tools and skills for searching information, particularly e-resources. However, studies affirmed that many students possess little or none of these required search and retrieval skills. The study, therefore aimed to investigate the influence of computer literacy skills on the use of electronic resources among Babcock University undergraduates, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State. A survey research design with purposive sampling technique was adopted to select 387 respondents, with the use of questionnaire. The descriptive statistics was used to analyze the research questions and multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that the undergraduates utilized e-resources such as e-dictionary, e-books, online catalog, e-journal etc. for the purpose of updating knowledge (60.9%), class-work (59.1%) more than entertainment (21.9%). Also, it was revealed that undergraduates frequently consult e-resources such as e-journal (90.7%), and e-dissertation and e-thesis (62.5%) than e-databases (1.9%). In addition, undergraduate have high level of computer literacy skills in manipulating electronic information resources (98.4%) than performing data analysis with a computer software package (8.1%). Furthermore, computer literacy skills significantly influenced the use of e-resources among the undergraduates. The study concluded that the higher computer literacy skills, the better the use of e-resources. The study recommended that the university management should frequently organized a computer literacy skills training that focus more on software and database management skills. In addition, the university libraries should organize from time-to-time information literacy training that embrace both the use of print and non-print electronic and web-based resources of libraries while also focusing on information searching, retrieval and evaluation skills.

Abstract:This study investigated the influence of credit administration on financial control among Cooperative Thrift and Credit Society (CTCS) in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Specifically, the objectives are; to determine the extent to which creditworthiness influence the allocation of credit from cooperative thrift and credit societies in Ekiti State and to explore the extent to which credit selection risk influence usage of credit from cooperative thrift and credit societies in Ekiti State. Data used for the study were obtained using a structured questionnaire administered to 383 respondents who were members of the cooperative thrift and credit society in Ekiti north senatorial district, Ekiti State. A stratified sampling technique was employed in selecting the participating members from each of the local governments and data was analysed. Primary and Secondary data are used. To achieve the stated objectives, t-test and linear regression analyses were adopted to measure the effect of the variations of the independent variable (creditworthiness and credit selection) on the dependent variable (financial control of credit thrift cooperative society). Findings reveal that the t-calculated value of 2.3345 and the p-value of 0.020 implies that creditworthiness has a significant effect on the allocation of credit among Cooperative Thrift and Credit Societies in Ekiti, also with a t-value of 4.0469 and an associated p-value of 0.000. There is a significant influence of credit selection on the usage of funds from CTCS in Ekiti State. Thus, the study concluded that credit administration has a significant effect on financial control among Cooperative Thrift and Credit Society in Ekiti State, Nigeria. It is recommended that CTCS need to disburse credit or loans to members based on their needs and usage of the funds, especially for viable and worthwhile projects.

Abstract:With rapidly changing work environment and digitalization in social life, it is easier and effective to use electronic learning (E-learning) systems to train human resource. This training can cover various dimensions like technologies, product, services, culture and policies. This study examined the influence of E-Learning on employee training and development. Two research questions were posed for the study and two hypotheses formulated in line with the objectives. As such, the objectives of the study were to examine whether the employees with less workload spend more time on E-learning than employees with higher workload, thus handle larger responsibilities and how the trainings imparted through E-learning has influence on performance of the employees and service quality. The study employed survey research, the experimental research and the ex-post facto. For this research, the quantitative research design was used. Questionnaires were administered to a sample size of two hundred and sixty (260) employees out of the seven hundred and twenty six (726) employee population of Non Academic Staffs of Kwara State University Nigeria. The simple random sampling and the test re-test reliability approach was adopted. The research found out that E-learning is a facilitating step for improving the pace of learning and reducing employee down-time thus enabling employees to handle greater responsibilities. Thus it concluded that employees with less workload can be made more responsible by providing training through E-learning. And it was also revealed that E-learning improves performance of employees by enhancing their productivity which influences quality of work thus improves employee performance. Based on the results of findings, the study recommends that Learning interactivities designed to accomplish knowledge transfer with a heavy emphasis on skills development on online learning platform can be used for new hires and market including: Business operations, auxiliary services, guidelines and future markets which will enhance employees performance and service quality. Other e-learning solutions are important as they are self-directed and much easy than any other methods of training.

Abstract:Past studies have been conducted to examine the effects of administrative practices on Employees’ job Performance in developed countries but only rare researches were directed in developing countries like Pakistan. Pakistan is still lacking behind to conduct the research in the administrative practices. This study mainly focuses on the education sector. The study is descriptive in its nature. In this study population was comprised of all employees from public Universities in Punjab, Pakistan. 180 respondents were selected through stratified random sampling approach from 6 public universities. The Data was collected through questionnaire contained 5-point Likert scale arrangement. Administrative practices were an independent variable whereas job satisfaction of the employees was a dependent variable. The two questionnaires (administrative practices and job performance) were developed for this study. The main dimensions included in administrative practices were compensation, training & development, career planning and recruitment selection. On the other hand, the main dimensions in job performance questionnaire were quality of work, productivity, knowledge of job and interpersonal relations. There were total 32 questions. The result of the study showed that there was strong and positive effect of administrative practices on job performance of the employees at university level.

Abstract:Purpose: Managing patients' health information is one of the building blocks of the health system and the adoption of health information technologies like electronic health records (EHRs) is expected to reduce the various challenges in keeping and accessing quality health-care data that aid decision-making among medical practitioners. This study aims to investigate how leadership styles and change management affected the job performance of health information management practitioners on their adoption of EHRs in tertiary hospitals in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach: The study used primary data collected using a Likert scale questionnaire from 117 health information management officers and health information technicians in selected tertiary hospitals in South-Eastern Nigeria. The data were analysed using bivariate correlation and multiple regression techniques of inferential statistics. Findings: The analyses revealed that transformational leadership style, transactional leadership style and change management had significant positive influence on the job performance of health information management practitioners. However, laissez-faire leadership style did not show any significant positive influence. A further analysis showed that the combined effects of leadership styles and change management were also affirmed to significantly influence the adoption of EHRs for quality health-care delivery in Nigerian tertiary hospitals. Originality/value: The study contributes to health information management and the need to understand how leadership styles and change management can influence the adoption of EHRs. However, there is no adequate research that examined the role of leadership style and change management in influencing the job performance of Nigerian HIM practitioners regarding their usage of EHRs in tertiary hospitals in Nigeria.

Abstract:This study was conducted to determine the impact of lecture attendance on academic performance of business education students in tertiary institutions with Federal Capital Territory College of Education Zuba-Abuja as a case study. The study was guided by two specific research objectives and null hypotheses. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of the study comprised of all the 80 students who registered for BED 220 (Entrepreneurship in Business Education I) in 2017/2018 academic session at the Department of Business Education, Federal Capital Territory College of Education, Zuba-Abuja, Nigeria. Census survey was used which led to the consideration of the entire population for the study. The data used in the study was collected from a secondary source (published result) and the two null hypotheses were respectively tested with Chi-square and t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that a significant relationship exists between lecture attendance and academic performance of business education students in tertiary institutions. It also showed that a significant difference exists between the academic performance of business education students with high rate of attendance and those with low rate of attendance. The study concluded that lecture attendance enables students to be more creative, get first-hand and practical information from the teacher and it was found to be crucial to the acquisition of skills required for sustainable development in Nigeria. As a way forward, the study among others recommended that mandatory attendance should be enforced and teachers should adopt a friendly posture and encourage students to be punctual in the class. Abstract:Journal of Information Science, Ahead of Print. Digital literacy is a critical skill that administrative staff must acquire to continue their business activities at higher education. However, digital literacy studies for administrative staff seem to be neglected in the current literature. This article examines the impact of higher education administrative staff's digital literacy on their intention to use digital technologies while performing their tasks. For this purpose, a conceptual model consisting of effort expectancy and performance expectancy structures based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and expanded with the digital literacy dimension has been created. Data were collected from 158 participants who were administrative staff of two higher education institutions in Türkiye to evaluate the theoretical model. The data were analysed using the structural equation modelling technique. The findings revealed the relationship between the digital literacy skills of higher education administrative staff and their intention to use digital technology. According to the results, digital literacy has a direct effect on effort expectancy but not on performance expectancy. Also, contrary to our expectations, digital literacy does not directly affect the intention to use. However, digital literacy affects the intention to use digital technology through effort expectancy and performance expectancy. In higher education, personnel with low digital literacy skills should be identified and in-service training should be provided. This is one of the first studies to address the impact of digital literacy on technology acceptance by administrative staff working in higher education.
