Abstract:Teas contain catechins and caffeine that possess antioxidant activity and promote the excretion of waste products. Caffeine-containing tea may be potentially beneficial to skin health. Therefore, this study examined the influence of caffeine-containing tea on skin health status in adult women. The study subjects were divided into two groups: a tea group who regularly drank one or more cups daily and a non-tea group who drank no tea. In adult women in Daegu, 53.6% of the tea group drank caffeine-containing tea every day, and 46.4% of the non-tea group did not drink it at all. The level of caffeine-containing tea consumption in the tea group was 3.07 cups, and the average total amount of caffeine-containing tea intake was 635.7 mL. The mean values for skin elasticity, sebum, roughness, wrinkles, pores, and melanin pigmentation were in the normal range. Skin hydration was normal in the tea group but poor in the non-tea group. The skin condition parameters, such as skin hydration, elasticity, roughness, wrinkles, and melanin pigmentation, were similar in both groups. On the other hand, the skin pores were significantly higher in the non-tea group than in the tea group. Caffeine-containing tea intake showed a significant negative correlation with T-zone sebum.
