Current situation of human rights in Ecuador in the context of citizen security

Abstract:In Ecuador, human rights have been recognized and protected through several important milestones in its history. The Constitution establishes mechanisms to guarantee equality, non-discrimination, citizen participation and access to justice. In addition, Ecuador is a signatory to several international human rights instruments. The objective of the research is to evaluate the current human rights situation in Ecuador in the context of citizen security. It is concluded that criminal violence, including organized crime, drug trafficking and common crime, has had a significant impact on citizen security, as have femicides and child sexual abuse. This affects the right to life and physical integrity of people, generating a climate of fear and insecurity. The situation in the country's prisons, with overcrowding, internal violence, corruption and lack of effective control by the State, generates a sense of insecurity among the population and poses challenges for the justice and public security system. The Ecuadorian government faces the constant task of strengthening and improving its strategies to effectively address human rights violations and ensure that all individuals enjoy their fundamental rights on an equal footing
