Abstract:The progressive taxation system has been a subject of extensive research and debate regarding its role in addressing income inequality. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of progressive taxation in reducing income disparities, utilizing a qualitative research approach. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, including theoretical frameworks and empirical studies, key insights into the impact of progressive taxation on income distribution are synthesized. The findings suggest that progressive taxation, characterized by higher tax rates on individuals with higher incomes, can significantly contribute to reducing income inequality. Empirical evidence from various studies supports the notion that countries with more progressive tax systems tend to exhibit lower levels of income inequality. However, the effectiveness of progressive taxation is contingent upon factors such as the overall design of the tax system, enforcement mechanisms, and broader economic conditions. Addressing tax evasion and avoidance is crucial for maximizing the redistributive impact of progressive taxation. The implications of this study highlight the importance of prioritizing equitable tax policies and strengthening enforcement measures to promote social justice and inclusive economic growth. Future research should focus on exploring innovative tax policy solutions to address emerging challenges such as digitalization, globalization, and environmental sustainability.
