Abstract:Anti-tumor drug doxorubicin has been successfully anchored onto MCM-41-type mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) with acid-cleavable citraconic bond to afford the hybrid Dox-MSN nanomedicine. "click chemistry" has been exploited as an effective method for doxorubicin conjugation. Under normal plasma pH conditions (pH = 7.4), doxorubicin was covalently tethered to the surface of MSNs, avoiding premature drug release when unnecessary. After exposure to acidic microenvironment, such as encountered in cancerous tissue or intracellular compartment endosome, the acid-labile citraconic bond was decomposed, releasing the active pharmaceutical ingredient, doxorubicin. The kinetic profiles of doxorubicin release have been studied under different pH conditions (ranging from 4 to 7.4), clearly indicating a pH-dependent controlled release behavior. MTT assay with human cervical cancer cells (HeLa) and confocal microscopy were used to study the anti-tumor activity and particle uptake behavior of Dox-MSN, respectively. A multitude of physicochemical analytical methods, including TEM, SEM, XRD, porosity analysis, IR spectroscopy, confirmed the successful fabrication of desired MSNs. These acidresponsive MSNs can be speculated to find wide ranging applications as nano-carriers in biomedical research, especially for targeted anticancer drug delivery.

Abstract:Polymeric nanoparticles are greatly advancing the field of nanomedicine due to their ability for targeted and controlled drug release. Here, monodisperse pH-responsive surface charge-reversible and hepatoma-targeting polyelectrolyte complex nanoparticles (GC/HA NPs) near 80 nm were prepared via the ionotropic gelification by simple and mild co-precipitation of galactosylated chitosan (GC) and hyaluronate (HA). Their surface charges could transfer from negative in neutral or basic media to positive in acidic media, indicating their potential application for delivering anti-tumor drugs in response to the extracellular pH of the tumor environment. The unique "electrostatic sponge" structure enhanced their drug-loading capacity and encapsulation efficiency towards the anti-cancer agent doxorubicin (DOX), as well as the pH-triggered controlled release. MTT assays and fluorescence microscopy analysis revealed that the DOX-loaded GC/HA NPs possessed the hepatoma-targeting capacity with favorable biocompatibility. These features make them advanced anti-cancer drug nanocarriers for intelligent drug delivery systems.

Abstract:In this work, we report the fabrication and functional demonstration of a kind of dually responsive nanoparticles (NPs) as a potential drug delivery vector. The pH value, corresponding to the acidic microenvironment at the tumor site, and mannitol, to the extracellular trigger agent, were employed as the dually responsive factors. The function of dual responses was achieved by breaking the dynamic covalent bonds between phenylboronic acid (PBA) groups and diols at low pH value (pH 5.0) and/or under the administration of mannitol, which triggered the decomposition of the complex NPs and the concomitant release of anticancer drug of doxorubicin (DOX) loaded inside the NPs. The NPs were composed of modified chitosan (PQCS) with quaternary ammonium and PBA groups on the side chains, heparin (Hep), and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), in which quaternary ammonium groups offer the positive charge for the cell-internalization of NPs, PBA groups serve for the formation of dynamic bonds in responding to pH change and mannitol addition, PVA furnishes the NPs with diol groups for the interaction with PBA groups and the formation of dynamic NPS, and Hep plays the roles of reducing the cytotoxicity of highly positively-charged chitosan and forming of complex NPs for DOX up-loading. A three-step fabrication process of drug-loaded NPs was described, and the characterization results were comprehensively demonstrated. The sustained drug release from the drug-loaded NPs displayed obvious pH and mannitol dependence. More specifically, the cumulative DOX release was increased more than 1.5-fold at pH 5.0 with 20 mg mL−1 mannitol. Furthermore, the nanoparticles were manifested with effective antitumor efficient and apparently enhanced cytotoxicity in response to the acidic pH value and/or mannitol.

Abstract:Mesoporous carbon nanospheres (MCNs) with small diameters of approximate to 90 nm are developed as an efficient transmembrane delivery vehicle of an anticancer drug, doxorubicin (DOX). MCNs exhibit a high loading capacity toward DOX due to hydrophobic interactions and the supramolecular pi stacking between DOX and the carbonaceous structures, on which the pH-dependent drug release are successfully achieved. Specifically, DOX can be loaded onto MCNs in basic solution and in a physiological pH range, while release occurs in acidic solution in its ionized state. By effective passive and active targeting, MCNs can be readily internalized into HeLa cells, where the carried DOX can be efficiently released in the acidic microenvironment of the tumors for further therapy. The endocytosis and cytotoxicity of DOX@MCNs toward HeLa cells are investigated by confocal microscopy and MTT assay. This smart pH-dependent drug loading and release property of DOX@MCNs makes it possible to reduce the cytotoxicity to normal tissues during circulation in the body since the normal physiological pH is approximate to 7.4.
A Ph‐responsive Nanoparticle Delivery System Containing Dihydralazine and Doxorubicin‐based Prodrug for Enhancing Antitumor Efficacy

Abstract:The efficacy of nanoparticle (NP)-based drug delivery technology is hampered by aberrant tumor stromal microenvironments (TSMs) that hinder NP transportation. Therefore, the promotion of NP permeation into deep tumor sites via the regulation of tumor microenvironments is of critical importance. Herein, we propose a potential solution using a dihydralazine (HDZ)-loaded nanoparticle drug delivery system containing a pH-responsive, cyclic RGD peptide-modified prodrug based on doxorubicin (cRGD-Dex-DOX). With a combined experimental and theoretical approach, we find that the designed NP system can recognize the acid tumor environments and precisely release the encapsulated HDZ into tumor tissues. HDZ can notably downregulate the expression levels of hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF1 alpha), alpha-smooth muscle actin, and fibronectin through the dilation of tumor blood vessels. These changes in the TSMs enhance the enrichment and penetration of NPs and also unexpectedly promote the infiltration of activated T cells into tumors, suggesting that such a system may offer an effective "multifunctional therapy" through both improving the chemotherapeutic effect and enhancing the immune response to tumors. In vivo experiments on 4T1 breast cancer bearing mice indeed validate that this therapy has the most outstanding antitumor effects over all the other tested control regimens, with the lowest side effects as well. A nanoparticle drug delivery system is created by combining a doxorubicin-based prodrug (cRGD-Dex-DOX) with dihydralazine (HDZ), allowing for the precise release of HDZ in an acidic tumor environment. This released HDZ not only improves the accumulation and penetration of nanoparticles, but also unexpectedly encourages the infiltration of T-cells into the tumor site by changing the tumor's microenvironment.image

Abstract:Controlled drug release is a promising approach for cancer therapy due to its merits of reduced systemic toxicity and enhanced antitumor efficacy. Here, multifunctional Fe3O4@carbon@zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (FCZ) hybrid nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully constructed. Owing to the porosity and acid-sensitivity of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), FCZ NPs not only displayed an improved drug loading capacity compared to most of the polymeric nanocarriers, but also exhibited excellent pH-triggered release of doxorubicin (DOX) in vitro. Moreover, carbon dots (CDs) embedded in the porous carbon shell and superparamagnetic iron oxide nanocrystals could simultaneously function as intracellular fluorescence imaging and T2*-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents, respectively. The results obtained from the MTT assay demonstrated good biocompatibility of FCZ NPs. DOX release experiments showed pH regulation-dominated drug release kinetics: a weak acidic pH in tumor areas could trigger sustained drug release, suggesting that FCZ NPs are ideal drug delivery systems. Moreover, the remarkable inhibition of tumor growth without side effects was confirmed in vivo. These results provide convincing evidence establishing the multifunctional FCZ NPs as promising candidates for tumor therapy.

Abstract:Responsive nanocarriers with biocompatibility and precise drug releasing capability have emerged as a prospective candidate for anticancer treatment. However, the challenges imposed by the complicated preparation process and limited loading capacities have seriously impeded the development of novel multifunctional drug delivery systems. Here, we developed a novel and dual-responsive nanocarrier based on a nanoscale ZIF-8 core and an organosilica shell containing disulfide bridges in its frameworks through a facile and efficient strategy. The prepared ZIF-8@DOX@organosilica nanoparticles (ZDOS NPs) exhibited a well-defined structure and excellent doxorubicin (DOX) loading capability (41.2%) with pH and redox dual-sensitive release properties. The degradation of the organosilica shell was observed after 12 h incubation with a 10 mM reducing agent. Confocal imaging and flow cytometry analysis further proved that the nanocarriers can efficiently enter cells and complete intracellular DOX release under the low pH and high glutathione concentrations, which resulted in an enhanced cytotoxicity of DOX for cancer cells. Meanwhile, subcellular localization experiments revealed that the ZDOS NPs entered cells mainly by endocytosis and then escaped from lysosomes into the cytosol. Moreover, in vivo assays also demonstrated that the ZDOS NPs exhibited negligible systemic toxicity and significantly enhanced anticancer efficiencies compared with free DOX. In summary, our prepared pH and redox dual-responsive nanocarriers provide a potential platform for controlled release and cancer treatment.

Abstract:This study describes the development of an innovative pH-sensitive drug delivery system (DDS) utilizing ferrocene (Fc) and magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) for cancer therapy. One potential method for generating a diverse range of functional NPs involves attaching functional substances to MNPs. In this investigation, we display the successful modification of Fe 3 O 4 NPs by an Fc derivative (4-Ferrocenylbutyl)dimethylsilane through a hydrosilylation reaction toward the synthesis of the Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @VTES@Fc nanocarrier (NC). The doxorubicin (DOX) drug was loaded onto Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @VTES@Fc NC with a drug loading capacity of about 80 % via π-π stacking interactions. Also, the prepared materials were thoroughly characterized using FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDX-MAP, VSM, DAPI, MTT, antioxidants, and CV techniques. In vitro studies on the release of DOX from Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @VTES@Fc NC indicated a pH-responsive behavior with a lower release rate (< 10 %) at pH 7.4 compared to pH 5 (approximately 70 %) over a period of 96 h. Moreover, cytotoxicity assessments demonstrated notable cytotoxic effects of DOX-loaded Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @VTES@Fc on MCF-7 cells (IC50 value: ∼8 μg/mL). The study findings suggest that the fabricated magnetic core-shell NC (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @VTES@Fc/DOX) exhibits stimulus-responsive behavior and holds promise as a sophisticated approach to specifically transport therapeutic agents into tumor sites while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues.

Abstract:AbstractBiomedical applications of nontoxic amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) nanoparticles have mainly been restricted because of their aqueous instability. To improve their stability in physiological environments while retaining their pH‐responsiveness, a novel nanoreactor of ACC–doxorubicin (DOX)@silica was developed for drug delivery for use in cancer therapy. As a result of its rationally engineered structure, this nanoreactor maintains a low drug leakage in physiological and lysosomal/endosomal environments, and responds specifically to pH 6.5 to release the drug. This unique ACC–DOX@silica nanoreactor releases DOX precisely in the weakly acidic microenvironment of cancer cells and results in efficient cell death, thus showing its great potential as a desirable chemotherapeutic nanosystem for cancer therapy.

Abstract:The therapeutic potential of doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX), an anticancer drug, is limited by its dose-related side effects and non-selective delivery to healthy and cancerous cells. Here we show a drug delivery system based on doxorubicin-tethered fluorescent silica nanoparticles (DOX-Hyd@FSiNPs). The DOX was conjugated to the FSiNPs through a hydrazone linkage. After uptake into the acidic environment of cancer cells, DOX was released from the FSiNPs’ surfaces because of the breakage of the pH-sensitive hydrazine bond. The decreased viability of cells in the HeLa cancer cell line indicates that DOX-Hyd@FSiNPs are potential candidates for cancer therapy. Nuclear staining and Z-axis scanning with confocal laser scanning microscopy demonstrated that DOX-Hyd@FSiNPs were effectively delivered into the cytoplasm of HeLa cells; the released DOX accumulating in the nucleus. The fluorescence of the FSiNPs also allowed the live-tracking of the nanoparticles in the cell.

Abstract:The majority of current nanocarriers in cancer treatment fail to deliver encapsulated cargos to their final targets at therapeutic levels, which decreases the ultimate efficacy. In this work, a novel core–shell nanocarrier with a biodegradable property was synthesized for efficient drug release and subcellular organelle delivery. Initially, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were grafted with terminal double bonds originating from N, N′-bisacrylamide cystamine (BAC). Then, the outer coatings consisting of chitosan (CTS) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were deposited on the surface of modified AgNPs using an emulsion method. To improve the stability, disulfide-containing BAC was simultaneously reintroduced to cross-link CTS. The as-prepared nanoparticles (CAB) possessed the desired colloidal stability and exhibited a high drug loading efficiency of cationic anticancer agent doxorubicin (DOX). Furthermore, CAB was tailored to transform their size into ultrasmall nanovehicles responding to weak acidity, high glutathione (GSH) levels, and overexpressed enzymes. The process of transformation was accompanied by sufficient DOX release from CAB. Due to the triple sensitivity, CAB enabled DOX to accumulate in the nucleus, leading to a great effect against malignant cells. In vivo assays demonstrated CAB loading DOX held excellent biosafety and superior antitumor capacity. Incorporating all the benefits, this proposed nanoplatform may provide valuable strategies for efficient drug delivery.

Abstract:A facile, efficient, and versatile approach is presented to synthesize pH-responsive nanocapsules (∼120 nm) by combining the advantages of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and metal-organic thin films. ZIF-8 nanoparticles are used as templates on which a thin film coating of iron(III)-catechol complexes is derived from the coordination between dopamine-modified alginate (AlgDA) and iron(III) ions. After the template removal, nanocapsules with a pH-responsive wall are obtained. Doxorubicin (Dox), a typical anticancer drug, is first immobilized in ZIF-8 frameworks through coprecipitation and then encapsulated in nanocapsules after the removal of ZIF-8. The structure of the iron(III)-catechol complex varies with pH value, thus conferring the Dox@Nanocapsules with tailored release behavior in vitro. Cytotoxicity tests illustrate the highly effective cytotoxicity of Dox@Nanocapsules towards cancer cells. This study provides a new method for preparing smart nanocapsules and offers more opportunities for the controlled delivery of drugs.

Hollow Mesoporous Silica@Metal-Organic Framework and Its Applications for pH-Responsive Doxorubicin Drug Delivery.

Abstract:Metal--organic frameworks (MOFs), a new type of porous crystalline material, hold great potential in biomedical applications, such as drug delivery. However, the efficacy of drug delivery is limited by low drug loading. In this work, we synthesized hollow mesoporous silica (HMS)@MOF capsules that can be used as a pH-responsive drug delivery system for the anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX). DOX is loaded into the inner cavity of HMS. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanoparticles are then coated on the outer surface of the DOX-loaded HMS. The obtained material is a capsule (denoted as DOX/HMS@ZIF), in which DOX is encapsulated. The DOX/HMS@ZIF can be used as an efficient pH-responsive drug delivery system. DOX is not released under physiological conditions (pH7.4), but is released at low pH (4-6) from DOX/HMS@ZIF. The DOX/HMS@ZIF capsule shows much higher cytotoxicity than free DOX and alters the delivery pathway for DOX in cancer cells, while the drug-free HMS@ZIF shows excellent biocompatibility. This opens new opportunities to construct a safe and efficient delivery system for targeted molecules using pH-responsive release for a wide range of applications.
Functionalized PEGylated graphene oxide with folic acid and hydrazine as a new pH-responsive nanocarrier for doxorubicin delivery

Abstract:In this study, a novel pH-responsive nanocarrier composed of PEGylated graphene oxide functionalized with folic acid and hydrazine was developed for the targeted delivery and sustained release of doxorubicin. The prepared nanocarrier was characterized using various techniques, including scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering. These analyses provided evidence of the successful PEGylation of graphene oxide and functionalization with hydrazine and folic acid. The effects of different factors, such as contact time, temperature, and initial drug concentration, were studied using response surface methodology based on the Box-Behnken design. Seventeen runs were performed and the optimal conditions for drug loading were observed at a contact time of 3.77 h, temperature of 35 °C, and initial drug concentration of 617 mg/L. The maximum drug-loading efficiency under optimal conditions was 95.86%. The validity of the optimum factors for drug-loading efficiency was studied using analysis of variance. An in vitro drug release study demonstrated that 99.82% of doxorubicin was released in simulated cancer cells, whereas only 15.36% was released in a simulated environment that resembled physiological conditions. These results confirmed the pH-responsive nature of the nanocarrier, where the drug was released more efficiently under acidic conditions resembling cancer cells. Doxorubicin release experiments in physiological and acidic fluids proposed the Higuchi kinetic model for nanocarriers. In addition, fitting of the kinetic results to pharmacokinetic models showed non-Fickian diffusion from the nanocarrier.

Abstract:In this work, a pH-sensitive liposome–polymer nanoparticle (NP) composed of lipid, hyaluronic acid (HA) and poly(β-amino ester) (PBAE) was prepared using layer-by-layer (LbL) method for doxorubicin (DOX) targeted delivery and controlled release to enhance the cancer treatment efficacy. The NP with pH-sensitivity and targeting effect was successfully prepared by validation of charge reversal and increase of hydrodynamic diameter after each deposition of functional layer. We further showed the DOX-loaded NP had higher drug loading capacity, suitable particle size, spherical morphology, good uniformity, and high serum stability for drug delivery. We confirmed that the drug release profile was triggered by low pH with sustained release manner in vitro. Confocal microscopy research demonstrated that the NP was able to effectively target and deliver DOX into human non-small cell lung carcinoma (A549) cells in comparison to free DOX. Moreover, the blank NP showed negligible cytotoxicity, and the DOX-loaded NP could efficiently induce the apoptosis of A549 cells as well as free DOX. Notably, in vivo experiment results showed that the DOX-loaded NPs effectively inhibited the growth of tumor, enhanced the survival of tumor-bearing mice and improved the therapeutic efficacy with reduced side-effect comparing with free drug. Therefore, the NP could be a potential intelligent anticancer drug delivery carrier for cancer chemotherapy, and the LbL method might be a useful strategy to prepare multi-functional platform for drug delivery.

Hydrazone-Bearing PMMA-Functionalized Magnetic Nanocubes As Ph-Responsive Drug Carriers for Remotely Targeted Cancer Therapy in Vitro and in Vivo

Abstract:To develop vehicles for efficient chemotherapeutic cancer therapy, we report a remotely triggered drug delivery system based on magnetic nanocubes. The synthesized magnetic nanocubes with average edge length of around 30 nm acted as cores, whereas poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was employed as an intermediate coating layer. Hydrazide was then tailored onto PMMA both for doxorubicin (DOX) loading and pH responsive drug delivery via the breakage of hydrazine bonds. The successful fabrication of the pH responsive drug carrier was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and magnetic hysteresis loops, respectively. The carrier was stable at neutral environment and doxorubicin released at pH of 5.0. Cell viability assay and confocal laser scanning microscopy observations demonstrated that the loaded DOX could be efficiently released after cellular endocytosis and induced cancer cells apoptosis thereby. More importantly, the carrier could be guided to the tumor tissue site with an external magnetic field and led to efficient tumor inhibition with low side effects, which were reflected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), change of tumor size, TUNEL staining, and H&E staining assays, respectively. All results suggest that hydrazide-tailoring PMMA-coated magnetic nanocube would be a promising pH-responsive drug carrier for remotely targeted cancer therapy in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract:This study involved the construction of self-assembled nanoparticles from novel pH-sensitive amphiphilic polyphosphazenes. These nanoparticles provide fast pH-responsive drug release and have the capability to disturb endosomal membranes. The polymers were prepared by linking N,N-diisopropylethylenediamine (DPA) onto a backbone of PEGylated polyphosphazene. In vitro cell viability measurements demonstrated the superior efficacy of these pH-responsive nanoparticles over free doxorubicin (Dox): the IC50 was over 60 times lower than that of free Dox against a Dox-resistant cell line. Using flow cytometry and confocal microscopy, the further investigation of the intracellular distribution of Dox and fluorescent probes provided evidence that, upon internalization by cells through endocytic pathways, the pH-sensitive polymer would disrupt membranes of endosomal compartments, releasing the cargo drugs into the cytoplasm in a burst-like manner. This resulted in reduced likelihood of drug efflux via exocytosis, and reversal of the drug resistance of the tumor cells. Generally, the pH-responsive nanoparticles designed in this study have achieved their potential as a drug delivery system for tumor therapy applications.

Abstract:Developing a smart cancer drug delivery carrier with enhanced cancer-targeting and effective drug release in tumors is critical for efficient cancer chemotherapy. Herein, we designed a pH-responsive copolymer (PEG-ELP[VH4-70]) that entraps DOX into a hydrophobic core and self-assembles into smart DOX-loaded nanoparticles. The DOX-loaded nanoparticles were stabilized by Zn2+ and disrupted as the pH drops from 7.4 to 5.6. An in vitro study demonstrated that the DOX-loaded nanoparticle system exhibited efficient internalization, triggered the release of DOX into the cytoplasm and enabled the inhibition of tumors effectively. When used to deliver chemotherapeutics to a murine cancer model, PEG-ELP[VH4-70]/DOX accomplished a 4.8-foldsuppressed effect relative to the free drug after intravenous injection. This simple strategy can promote preeminent stability for targeting hydrophobic drugs to tumor tissues.

Abstract:AbstractTumour drug delivery using nanocarriers is attracting ample attentions due to their high drug-loading capacity. Regarding specific tumour microenvironment properties as acidic pH, smart nanocarriers with the ability of responding to the microenvironment, can have a profound effect on the level of drug release and subsequent tumour treatment. In this study, by combining the advantages of multiwall carbon nanotube and pH-sensitive nanogels, multifunctional magneto/pH-responsive nano-hybrid system is developed to deliver the doxorubicin as a general cancer chemotherapeutic drug. The chemical and physical properties of the nanocarrier, as well as drug-loading efficiency and drug releasing characteristics were analysed. It was showed functionalized CNT has low pH-responsiveness in acidic environment, whereas chitosan-coated magnetic nanocomposite can result in greater pH-responsiveness and subsequently higher drug release over a week compared to nanocomposite system without chitosan. This behaviour was proved in Live/Dead assay of the U-87 glioblastoma cell lines exposed to DOX release supernatant at different time intervals so that significant effect of DOX supernatant on cancer cell proliferation suppression was showed.
Multifunctional nanogel engineering with redox-responsive and AIEgen features for the targeted delivery of doxorubicin hydrochloride with enhanced antitumor efficiency and real-time intracellular imaging

Abstract:Nanogels exhibit potential application values in drug delivery systems because of their tunable properties and biocompatibility. In this study, multifunctional hyaluronic-based nanogels (HNPs), all-trans retinoid acid (ATRA)/aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen) fluorophores (TPENH2)-grafted hyaluronic acid (HA) with disulfide bonds as linkers of (HA-ss-ATRA/TPENH2), were successfully developed for doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) delivery. Besides, the controls of HA-ATRA/TPENH2 were also developed for comparison. The HNPs with nanoscale particle sizes possessed an excellent DOX-loading capacity. As expected, the DOX-loaded HNPs exhibited the higher stability in a normal physiological environment (10 µM GSH), but rapidly disintegrated in the cancer microenvironment (20 mM GSH) according to an in vitro drug release study. The intracellular observation of HNPs by the fluorescence microscopy indicated that the self-fluorescent DOX-loaded HNPs with unique AIEgen characteristic transported DOX into the cancer cells and visibly accumulated within the cytoplasm. Importantly, the accumulation of DOX-loaded HNPs was largely increased due to the targeted reorganization of CD44 or LYCE-1 receptors by HA moieties on the surface of HNPs. Based on in vitro cytotoxicity analyses, the DOX-loaded HNPs displayed dramatically enhanced virulence to cancer cells compared to the controls and free DOX. This is the first study to achieve combined functionalities of targeted delivery, controllable release and real-time intracellular imaging on HA-base nanogels with enhanced antitumor efficiency. Therefore, the multifunctional HA-ss-ATRA/TPENH2 HNPs have good potential to develop a novel drug delivery platform for the targeted delivery and controlled release of DOX to achieve enhanced antitumor efficiency as well as real-time intracellular imaging.
