Abstract:This paper aims to explain the idea of digital currency, its prospects in the Indian context, its role in digital transformation, and how it would be beneficial to our country, businesses, and different user segments. As in the phase of digital transformation, a constant improvement in technology is happening day by day globally. In today's virtual world, where everything is on its way forward, why should we not develop our economy accordingly so that we will be able to strengthen ourselves globally? And we had to begin the work of transformation by converting our currency to digital mode, i.e., digital currency, which is accessible in virtual or electronic form rather than physical. The paper opted for an exploratory study using existing literature, case studies, books, electronic resources, speeches of various officials of the central bank, and experts on national as well as international platforms, which gave clarity on some of the core elements involved in digital currency, like the concept of blockchain with its kinds and segments like wholesale & retail and also with use case data in different counties across the globe, strengths, and weaknesses; initial coin offerings (ICO); and central bank digital currency (CBDC). In this paper, data were complemented by documentary analysis, in which literature like the concept note of the Reserve Bank of India, the discussion paper of the Bank of England, and existing literature regarding centrally backed currency were studied for the clarity of the above work through figures like the money flower issued by the BIS (Bank for International Settlements). The paper concludes with discussion, suggestions, and future directions, with the conclusion that the user segments for the virtual currency backed by a central bank are classified.

Abstract:Central bank digital currency (CBDC) is being experimented by more than 60 central banks across the globe. Distributed ledger technology (DLT), which is the foundation for crypto currencies is considered as one of the options for implementation of CBDC. Real time payments, continued access to central bank money, financial inclusion and tracking of illicit activities are considered to be benefited by adopting CBDC. CBDC experiments conducted so far are inconclusive and no central bank has taken a decision yet to launch CBDC. This paper looks at the business and technology risks/challenges associated with CBDC implementation. This paper also recommends key design considerations for CBDC exploration in India.

It is a dream created by the Government of India to ensure that government services are made available to citizens electronically, even in remote areas, by improving online infrastructure and increasing internet connectivity. The program has one mission and one goal, which is to move the nation forward digitally and economically. The initiative will enable people to engage in the innovation process that the economy needs to progress. But implementing it is a big challenge. There are many hurdles in its successful implementation such as digital illiteracy, poor infrastructure, slow internet speed, lack of coordination between various departments, tax related issue etc. These challenges need to be addressed to realize the full potential of this scheme. It requires a lot of effort and commitment from all government ministries and the private sector. If properly implemented, it will open various new opportunities for the citizens of the country.

Abstract:In the realm of digital revolution and advancement, the subject matter of currency had been evolved to many different scenarios. From coins to notes to plastic money and finally to digital currency, our traditional medium of exchange had gone through a big transition in the past decades. In the economic concept of going for paperless and cashless, man has developed several different modes like Debit card and credit cards (Plastic money) as meeting economic settlement of exchange. But unfortunately, due to environmental commitment of cutting the utility of plastics and centralization of chips manufacturing ability to some few nation’s only, the concept of plastic money can’t be a one fix permanent solution to this currency revolution initiatives. Therefore we have many economies today who are concentrating their efforts towards making their currency digital. The concept of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is the new concept in this story of currency Revolution. If we check out the global scenario, there are close to 10 countries around the world who have digital currency, as per the reports of India times. To a surprise of the world, we had littoral and islands nation’s too, who are really doing a good job to channelize their currency towards a digital shift. The Bahamas, Jamaica and Singapore like island nation’s too had taken a massive step towards currency digitalization. In the bid to make Indian Currency also adapt with this digital shift, we in India too had successfully running our currency digitalization for the E-Rupees. Although, E-Rupees success in India is yet in the pilot stage and its full-fledged implementation is yet to be put in place. But the point of the matter is that India very soon is going to be in e rupees market. E rupee will going to be in every pocket very soon. Thanks to the digitalization, and demonetization of 2016 that E-Rupees will be the new reality of India. E-Rupees will be in every hands very soon. Point of the matter is that we all must push our self for this currency revolution. India is hopeful That the pilot project of E-Rupees will chase the full-fledged success and very soon India will chase economic triumph. The introduction of E-Rupees will initiate a new dawn of economic growth for the Indian people. Indians will be going to be more empowered in the financial terms as Indian Central Bank i.e. will be making better initiatives for strengthening the businesses as well as Indian citizens. In this research paper, we will be analyzing all the aspects about E-Rupees and how it can be a game changer for Indian Economy in the coming years. Also we will be focusing on its potential merits and demerits of aggregate economy as a whole as well as for the ultimate users. Abstract:Financial inclusion stands as a critical driver of economic empowerment and social development, ensuring that individuals across diverse socio-economic strata have access to and can effectively utilize formal financial services. In the context of India, where millions have historically been excluded from traditional banking systems, the emergence of digital finance presents a promising avenue for bridging this gap and fostering greater financial inclusion. This research paper delves into the transformative role of digital finance in driving financial inclusion in India, with a particular focus on understanding its impact on key aspects of financial access and empowerment. Central to our exploration is the definition of financial inclusion as the ability to access and effectively utilize a spectrum of formal financial services. In this context, we examine how digital tools such as credit/debit cards, internet banking, mobile banking, and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) can empower individuals, particularly those who have been previously excluded from traditional banking systems. By investigating the impact of these digital instruments across ten key aspects of financial inclusion, including convenience, success rate of transactions, affordability, security, user-friendliness, timeliness, customer care support, internet connectivity, and overall usability, we aim to discern their strengths and weaknesses in promoting financial inclusion. Through a systematic analysis of each dimension, we seek to uncover the transformative potential of digital finance in bridging the financial gap in India. Our research will contribute valuable insights into the effectiveness of digital finance initiatives in fostering financial inclusion, providing evidence-based recommendations for policymakers, financial institutions, and fintech companies seeking to create a more inclusive financial landscape for all segments of Indian society. This research is not merely theoretical but grounded in empirical evidence and real-world observations. Abstract:Objective: Financial inclusion through digital means has initiated the concept of digital financial inclusion (DFI) which is intended to reach out vulnerable community without having digital financial access. This study is an attempt to analyze the various prospects and challenges concerning digital financial inclusion. As the main intention of this study was to assess the challenges and prospects of digital financial inclusion, ABCD analysis also has been undertaken to assess its Advantages, Benefits, Constraints and Disadvantages. Methodology: This research is conducted through secondary sources in order to provide a full-fledged evidence-based study on the prospects and challenges of digital financial inclusion. The semi-systematic review is done through various published reports and articles from RBI, ABD, G20, Springer, Tailor & Francis, Emarald, Google Scholar, Srinivas Publications, Research Gate, SSRN, etc. Findings: The result of extensive review revealed that digital financial inclusion acts as a major catalyst for socio-economic, sustainable and inclusive prosperity. Various challenges concerning digital financial inclusion includes lack of financial literacy, inefficient utilization of technology by the rural population, lack of trust and data privacy concern. Apart from that the study strongly argued that digital financial inclusion promotes socio-economic development of the citizens and it also reduces cost, improves efficiency and competitiveness of the service providers. Practical Implications: This research provides a guide for financial institutions and FinTech companies to realize the various challenges tackled by the citizens to improve their service delivery and provide better digital services. It also acts as a source of information to the users of DFI to understand the benefits of being digitally inclusive for their finance. Originality/value: As a secondary data based study it may provide overall view on DFI and may help the policy makers and financial regulators to promote financial inclusive growth; but the concept of DFI can also be better understood by conducting a primary survey, hence it acts as limitations of the study. Abstract:Purpose: A central bank Digital currency or Digital rupee or e-Rupee is a legal tender digital form backed by sovereign currency attributed to Nobel laureate James Tobin economist In the year 1980, more than 105 countries were exploring CBDC among 50 countries in the advance phase of digital currency (as per NASCUS tracker) to create an environment for a cashless economy with the Government owned Blockchain Distributed ledge Technology (DLT) along Conventional centrally controlled database structure of Digital Public infrastructure of India Stack technology-driven and 5G digital revolution and innovation to close the gaps in Financial innovation and the financial inclusion, Government of India and RBI has made provision in the legal framework in the RBI ACT 1934, Banking Regulation Act 1949, Finance Act, 2022, The coinage Act,2011, FEMA Act 1999, Information Technology Act, 2000 and Payment and Settlement Act,2007 to expand access to financial services and cashless economy with blockchain technology $1.1 trillion has impact on Indian GDP. RBI has created a Retail transaction in P2P, P2M and wholesale transactions in the secondary market including commercial papers, corporate bonds, and deposit certificates. In contrast, retail transactions stood at 2.73 cores and wholesale CBDC transactions stood at 1329. The tokenization of global illiquid assets is estimated to be$16 a trillion-business opportunity by 2030 (BCG analysis) for the payment system of token-based and account-based for sustainable prosperities and Five C ‘s FI CBDC approach has created a wide range of Financial Inclusion and to achieve Sustainability Development Goals. Methodology: The research draws upon secondary data from publications such as journals, magazines, websites, and periodicals, in addition to a review of previous conceptual and empirical studies to assess the paper's objectives. Result/Analysis: The implementation of the RBI's CBDC has a substantial impact on reaching the SDGs. It increases prospects for FinTech entrepreneurs while lowering operational expenses as compared to traditional money systems. Originality/Value: The study’s significant contribution of 5 C's Approach towards CBDC. Abstract:The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is considering introducing a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). According to studies, India's financial system plays a major role in the execution of the CBDC. India is at the forefront of technological advancements in digital payment methods. The central banks that support CBDC's design concept are susceptible to adaptations to the evolution of economic and financial systems. This study will highlight the potential of CBDC to boost financial inclusion. Quantitative regression analysis is being used to quantify the potential drivers of financial sector efficiency and stability to measure the impact of CBDC implementation on financial inclusion. The central bank should build the CBDC utilizing the Structural Vector Auto-Regression model while considering payment system visibility. The proposed study can help to identify the lags in attaining financial inclusion in India and to design CBDC. The proposed study can also establish the policymakers' role in maximizing benefits to the consumers. The study establishes the potential role of RBI in the smooth functionality of implementing CBDC. The study brings out the trend of the payment system in India that opens up the possibility of positive implementation of CBDC and its welfare to percolate among consumers.

Big financial institutions, experts and academicians have different opinions in this regard. They claim that it would be the end of cryptocurrency market in India or it would be possible that RBI (Reserve Bank of India) may launch its own crypto or digital currency. Abstract:India is not an exception to the global trend of the rising popularity of digital transactions. According to studies, effective systems of payment can contribute to a faster movement of liquidity throughout a country's economy. In this digital age, businesses that want to be agile and provide the best possible service to their customers need to offer digital payment options. This research investigates how individuals view online and digital payment methods and explores their apprehensions regarding the security of such transactions in an era dominated by interconnected technologies. Marketers need to understand how consumers view cashless payment methods, and this study provides valuable insights. The research being conducted is qualitative and analyses the idea of digital transactions through literature evaluations. The evaluations list a number of drawbacks and benefits when making payment methods that are digital. The results show that India accepts digital payment methods, and that usage is rising annually. The survey also outlines the benefits and difficulties that customers encounter when implementing digital payments. In general, this research offers insightful information on how digital transactions will develop in India. It is clear that digital payments are here to stay, and businesses that want to stay ahead of the curve need to offer these options to their customers.

In Bangladesh this currency medium is not approved yet. But this digital currency can change the whole view of Bangladesh's perspective if it’s approved by the government. This digital currency can play an influential role in e-commerce and business and can change massively for the economy's growth. The acceptance of digital currency in Bangladesh is now a matter because this is an important issue in this globalized world. All the western countries approve of the digital currency dealing system which is binding by their law and they trust in their highly configured block chain security for this. The Russia-Ukraine war makes it more important to approve it because many economic issues and crises over the world arise. We know digital currency has no central control in terms of security. That is why the regulatory framework is very much necessary before approval. There is a large scope for digital currency in Bangladesh for use in different fields. Especially in e-commerce business or any kind of trading in the international market this digital currency can be the best transaction system. Right now, in Bangladesh, there is no specific law for digital currency exchange. But it should be approved to improve the economy in this globalized world. This paper tries to find out why this digital currency approval is important for Bangladesh and how it’s security can be ensured through law.

Abstract:Cryptocurrencies are digital tokens that allow people to make payments directly to each other through an online system. Since it can be used to buy and sell items and has the ability to store value and increase in value, cryptocurrency is drawing the attention of a lot of investors. As to the nature of cryptocurrency, there are different sets of opinions as to whether it is a currency or a Commodity or Security. The Finance Act 2022 was the first law to recognize Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs) in India and introduced crypto taxes. Accordingly, the income generated from investment in cryptocurrency is subject to tax. Abstract:The exponential growth that the cryptocurrency market has seen in the past decade has caused much discomfort among governments across the globe, owing to the unregulated nature of transactions and what some may argue is a disproportionate impact of the crypto market on domestic economies. The natural response of most jurisdictions has been to tax cryptocurrency transactions so as to discourage them while also gaining revenue out of them. However, taxation policies face complex questions of determining the true nature of crypto transactions, a question that is yet to be answered with clarity. The knee-jerk reaction that the industry has attracted from the Indian government in particular has materialised in the form of imposition of a virtual digital assets tax on cryptocurrencies. The authors argue that this policy failed to effectively address its objective and only resulted in a sudden downfall of the crypto market in India, creating negative repercussions for the domestic economy. The authors then employ a game theoretical analysis to propose an alternative taxation framework that recognizes the significance of the crypto market and better balances the need for its regulation. Further, they discuss frameworks from a range of external jurisdictions to analyse the expected implications of similar policies in the Indian economy.

Abstract:Although money in digital form is not new to modern economics, advances in technology have led to a revolution in digital currencies and have facilitated instantaneous peerto-peer transfers of value, which was previously impossible. The advent of new digital currencies could redefine the way in which payments and users’ data interact, reshape the nature of currency competition, and rebuild the architecture of the international monetary system (Brunnermeier, James, and Landau 2019). During the last decade, digital currencies have surfaced in a variety of contexts. The earliest context was cryptocurrencies (CPMI, 2015), such as Bitcoin and Litecoin, which are typically issued and transferred via a decentralized distributed ledger. They are not a liability of any entity and not backed by any authority and thus have zero intrinsic value. Their values are unstable as they are driven by the belief that other market participants would accept them as a means of payment or that their value will continue to increase at a later point. As a result, they are now viewed more as speculative assets rather than a medium of exchange. A special type of cryptocurrency called Stablecoin, such as Libra (proposed by Facebook) and Tether, share a decentralized nature with Bitcoin, but differ in that Stablecoin attempt to maintain price stability. There are generally two ways to ensure that Stablecoins are stable – through collaterals or through algorithms. Collateralized Stablecoins are usually backed by reserve assets, including fiat currency reserves like the US dollar, commodities like oil, or precious metals like gold or silver. Algorithmic Stablecoins do not use reserves but retain a stable price by controlling the supply of coins, implemented by an autonomous consensus mechanism and smart contracts. Given their (alleged) capacity to preserve value over time, the use of Stablecoins, especially those issued by Big-Tech firms, could rise as global payment instruments and pose governance challenges for international finance and monetary policies (FSB, 2020). Given that new technologies and market entrants challenge the traditional bank-based payment systems, 80% of central banks worldwide are currently considering a new type of digital currency controlled by central banks, that is, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) (Boar, Holden, and Wadsworth 2020). CBDCs are new variants of central bank money that are different from physical cash or central bank reserve/settlement accounts. Abstract:The present article deals with one of the phenomena of the Industrial (Digital) revolution 4.0, which is digital currency in broader sense, respectively virtual currencies, as some authors refer to them. Despite the fact that this phenomenon is not such a novelty in society, it has demanded the focus of legal science only in recent years and the discussion has not subsided, it can be stated that it is only in the beginning. Along with digital currency in broader sense, there are several issues, such as the correctness of their naming, their legal status and, as far as the area of tax law is concerned, these are also questions of the manner and possibilities of taxing transactions with them. Authors set as a goal of this article to verify the following hypotheses: - the naming of digital currency in broader sense as a currency is incorrect given the existing knowledge of financial law science. - the legal regulation of digital currency in broader sense in selected Member States of the European Union is not sufficient. To verifying the above hypotheses, the authors used several methods of writing scientific works, but especially analysis, synthesis, the method of comparison and the historical method, which the authors used in combination with each other.
