Influence of Recognition on Low Fertility and Fertility Determinants on Childbirth Will in University Students

Abstract:This study aimed to identify college students’ will to give birth and to provide basic data to solve the problem of low fertility. The subjects of this study were 206 students attending the universities in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Gwangju, and Daegu. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program, and correlations were calculated for the perception of low fertility, determinants of childbirth, and childbirth will, and regression analysis was performed to examine the effect on the childbirth will. Factors having the greatest influence on college students’ childbirth will are “meaningful parental recommendation for childbirth” (β=-.202), “gender equality in childcare and housework” (β=-.224), “policy support” (β=.243), and “economic burden” (β= -.314), and the explanatory power was 31.3%. Since childbirth will is not achieved in a short period of time, instilling positive values about childbirth is necessary. In addition, a continuous educational program should be developed and offered to college students who may have a positive approach toward childbirth.. In addition, a social environment that actively supports and facilitates childbirth and child rearing needs be created, and this will require social support.
