Abstract:Abstract: This study utilises data from the 2018 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey (CLASS) to examine how the effective demand for community home-based eldercare services for the urban elderly is influenced by both family embeddedness and community embeddedness. Findings indicate that the satisfaction level of urban elderly effective demand is relatively low. From an embeddedness perspective, the more embedded the elderly are in their families in terms of caregiving, the lower their effective demand for community- and home-based eldercare services. Conversely, the more embedded the elderly are in their community in terms of social participation, the higher their effective demand for such services. Thus, there is a conflicting relationship between family embeddedness and community embeddedness, which contradicts the government’s goals of constructing a community- and home-based eldercare service system. To further tap into the effective demand, it is necessary to enhance elderly community embeddedness in terms of daily life, social relationships and ethical perceptions, enabling stronger connections among “family-elderly-community” through socialised community-based services.
