Abstract:The article presents an analysis of B. Tchaikovsky's vocal cycle «Zodiac Signs» from the perspective of the problem of musical embodiment of poetic intonation. The characteristic of poetic intonation is given as the whole complex of expressive means of the verse that conveys the individual «author's voice» of the poet, its close relationship with the musical style is noted. The assumption is put forward that the artistically significant sound contained in the verse («music of the word», sound sense) as it were, it is melted down by a sensitive composer into a musical embodiment: music carries out the transmission of poetic sound by its own means. Since the cycle is written on poems by various authors, the focus of analytical attention is focused on the specifics of the composer's reading of the poetic intonation of each poet and the correlation of poetic and musical intonation, both the concrete implementation of rhythmic intonation structures and the general «emotional tone» of the poem and music.
