Abstract:Abstract Introduction This study assesses the prevalence of Long COVID and evaluates its impact on Healthcare Workers’ (HCW) work-role functioning in two Singapore tertiary hospitals. Methods A cross-sectional survey, comprising the Work Role Functioning Questionnaire version 2.0 (WRFQv2.0) and U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Household Pulse Survey for Long COVID, was conducted electronically for HCWs above 21 years old, employed by either one of the hospitals, and previously diagnosed with COVID-19. Results A total of 573 participants were included, with a response rate of 3.6%. Prevalence of long COVID (symptoms for 4 weeks or more) was 47.5%, with significantly higher proportion of younger workers (less than 40 years old), HCWs with moderate or severe infections, and multiple infections. Compared to HCWs without Long COVID, HCWs with Long COVID had significantly lower WRFQv2.0 mean scores (85.1 vs 74.3, p<0.05). Of note, HCWs with 12 weeks or more symptoms had significantly lower WRFQv2.0 mean scores than HCW without Long COVID (85.6 vs 73.4, p<0.05). Discussion The study suggests that Long COVID substantially affects work functioning of HCWs, particularly in those experiencing symptoms for prolonged durations. The findings emphasize the importance of prompt identification and evaluation of HCWs with Long COVID, especially those with moderate or severe COVID-19 infection or multiple infections, to understand the potential impact on work-role functioning and recommend the necessary work adjustments required. Conclusion Long COVID can have an impact on HCWs’ work-role functioning, highlighting the need for further attention to facilitate affected HCWs’ successful return to work at pre-illness levels.
