Abstract:Prosocial behavior provides many positive benefits for children, especially in various aspects of development including academic success, decreased feelings of loneliness, and aggression. This study aims to investigate (1) whether there is an effect of game with rule on prosocial behavior, (2) knowing whether there is a difference between the prosocial behavior of boys and girls after participating in games with rules. This study used pre-experimental design. Data analysis for examining the effect of games with rules on prosocial behavior was done using nonparametric statistics with the Wilcoxon test. In contrast, the data analysis for examining the difference of prosocial behavior between boys and girls used the Mann Whitney test. The final result of the data analysis shows a difference in prosocial behavior after children participate in a games with rules. Furthermore, this study found no differences in prosocial behavior between boys and girls. The implications of the research results are discussed further in this article. What problem does this paper attempt to address?
There are mainly two problems that this paper attempts to solve:
1. **Explore the influence of rule - based games on prosocial behavior**: The research aims to examine whether participating in rule - based games can influence children's prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior refers to those voluntary behaviors that are beneficial to others, such as cooperation, comfort, sharing, support, help, sympathy and empathy, etc. Researchers hope to promote these positive behavior patterns through rule - based games.
2. **Explore the differences in prosocial behavior between boys and girls after participating in rule - based games**: The research also attempts to understand whether there are significant differences in their prosocial behavior between boys and girls after participating in rule - based games. Specifically, researchers used non - parametric statistical methods (such as Wilcoxon test and Mann - Whitney U test) to analyze the data to determine whether gender will affect the promoting effect of rule - based games on prosocial behavior.
### Research background
- **The importance of prosocial behavior**: Prosocial behavior has multiple positive impacts on children's development, including academic success, reducing loneliness and aggression, etc. In addition, prosocial behavior can also promote pleasant social experiences between children and their peers and adults, which is crucial for the development of social skills in adulthood.
- **Factors influencing prosocial behavior**: Research shows that family environment, school education, community atmosphere and parenting styles will all influence children's prosocial behavior. For example, children from low - income families may show a lower level of social behavior, and the authoritative parenting style can shape good prosocial behavior better than the neglectful parenting style.
- **The influence of games on prosocial behavior**: Previous research has pointed out that games can provide many opportunities for children to develop prosocial behavior. In particular, cooperative games and traditional outdoor games can help children adapt to friends and the environment and promote the development of prosocial behavior.
### Research design
- **Research method**: The research adopted a set of pre - test - post - test quasi - experimental design. The participants were 16 children aged 6 - 7 years (9 boys and 7 girls) who were studying in a kindergarten class. The researchers first carried out a pre - test, recorded the baseline level of children's prosocial behavior, and then carried out an intervention through the "pass the key" game, and finally carried out a post - test.
- **Data analysis**: Researchers used Wilcoxon signed - rank test to analyze the changes in children's prosocial behavior before and after the rule - based games, and used Mann - Whitney U test to analyze the differences in prosocial behavior between boys and girls.
### Main findings
- **The influence of rule - based games on prosocial behavior**: The research results show that rule - based games significantly improve children's prosocial behavior. Especially in terms of tolerance, sharing, cooperation and positive response to friends' emotions, children's performance has been significantly improved.
- **Differences between boys and girls**: The research did not find significant differences in prosocial behavior between boys and girls. Although some girls had the highest prosocial behavior scores and some boys had the lowest scores, overall, both boys and girls showed an improvement in prosocial behavior after participating in rule - based games.
### Conclusion
This research has proved the positive influence of rule - based games on children's prosocial behavior, and there is no significant difference between boys and girls in this influence. The research results support previous research on the positive influence of games on children's social attitudes and behaviors. In addition, the research also emphasizes the important role of teachers in guidance and feedback, and the potential of games as a comprehensive development tool in children's education.
