Abstract:We discuss the ideal-adic semi-continuity problem for minimal log discrepancies by Mustata. We study the purely log terminal case, and prove the semi-continuity of minimal log discrepancies when a Kawamata log terminal triple deforms in the ideal-adic topology.

Abstract:In this paper, we first establish an $L^2$-type Dolbeault isomorphism for logarithmic differential forms by Hormanderu0027s $L^2$-estimates. By using this isomorphism and the construction of smooth Hermitian metrics, we obtain a number of new vanishing theorems for sheaves of logarithmic differential forms on compact Kahler manifolds with simple normal crossing divisors, which generalize several classical vanishing theorems, including Norimatsuu0027s vanishing theorem, Gibrauu0027s vanishing theorem, Le Potieru0027s vanishing theorem and a version of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that Shokurov's conjectures on the ACC for $a$-lc thresholds and the ACC for minimal log discrepancies are equivalent in the interval $[0,1)$. That is, the conjecture on ACC for $a$-lc thresholds holds for every $0\leq a<1$ if and only if the set of minimal log discrepancies for pairs with DCC coefficients do not have an accumulation point from below which belongs to $[0,1)$.

Abstract:Recent study in K-stability suggests that Kawamata log terminal (klt) singularities whose local volumes are bounded away from zero should be bounded up to special degeneration. We show that this is true in dimension three, or when the minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are bounded from above. We conjecture that the minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are always bounded from above, and verify it in dimension three when the local volumes are bounded away from zero. We also answer a question from Han, Liu, and Qi on the relation between log canonical thresholds and local volumes.

Abstract:We introduce and study a log discrepancy function on the space of semivaluations centered on an integral noetherian scheme of positive characteristic. Our definition shares many properties with the analogue in characteristic zero; we prove that if log resolutions exist, then our definition agrees with previous approaches to log discrepancies of semivaluations that these resolutions. We then apply this log discrepancy to a variety of topics in singularity theory over fields of positive characteristic. Strong F-regularity and sharp $F$-purity of Cartier subalgebras are detected using positivity and non-negativity of log discrepancies of semivaluations, just as Kawamata log terminal and log canonical singularities are defined using divisorial log discrepancies, making precise a long-standing heuristic. We prove, in positive characteristic, several theorems of Jonsson and Mustata in characteristic zero regarding log canonical thresholds of graded sequences of ideals. Along the way, we give a valuation-theoretic proof that asymptotic multiplier ideals are coherent on strongly F-regular schemes.

Abstract:We generalize Miyanishi's theory of almost minimal models of log smooth surfaces with reduced boundary to the case of arbitrary log surfaces defined over an algebraically closed field. Given an MMP run of a log surface $(X,D)$ we define and construct its almost minimal model, whose underlying surface has singularities not worse than $X$ and which differs from a minimal model by a contraction of some curves supported in the boundary only. For boundaries of type $rD$, where $D$ is reduced and $r\in [0,1]\cap \mathbb{Q}$, we show that if $X$ is smooth or $r\in [0,\frac{1}{2}]$ then the construction respects $(1-r)$-divisorial log terminality and $(1-r)$-log canonicity. We show that the assumptions are optimal, too.

Abstract:Minimal log discrepancies (mld's) are related not only to termination of log flips, and thus to the existence of log flips but also to the ascending chain condition (acc) of some global invariants and invariants of singularities in the Log Minimal Model Program (LMMP). In this paper, we draw clear links between several central conjectures in the LMMP. More precisely, our main result states that the LMMP, the acc conjecture for mld's and the boundedness of canonical Mori-Fano varieties in dimension $\le d$ imply the following: the acc conjecture for $a$-lc thresholds, in particular, for canonical and log canonical (lc) thresholds in dimension $\le d$; the acc conjecture for lc thresholds in dimension $\le d+1$; termination of log flips in dimension $\le d+1$ for effective pairs; and existence of pl flips in dimension $\le d+2$. This also gives new proofs of some well-known and new results in the field in low dimensions: the acc conjecture holds for $a$-lc thresholds of surfaces; the acc conjecture holds for lc thresholds of 3-folds; termination of 3-fold log flips holds for effective pairs; and the existence of 4-fold pl flips holds.

Some examples indicate that our bound is optimal.

Abstract:We consider the minimization property of a Gagliardo-Slobodeckij seminorm which can be seen as the fractional counterpart of the classical problem of functions of least gradient and which is related to the minimization of the nonlocal perimeter functional. We discuss continuity properties for this kind of problem. In particular, we show that, under natural structural assumptions, the minimizers are bounded and continuous in the interior of the ambient domain (and, in fact, also continuous up to the boundary under some mild additional hypothesis). We show that these results are also essentially optimal, since in general the minimizer is not necessarily continuous across the boundary.

Abstract:For certain quasismooth Calabi–Yau hypersurfaces in weighted projective space, the Berglund-Hübsch-Krawitz (BHK) mirror symmetry construction gives a concrete description of the mirror. We prove that the minimal log discrepancy of the quotient of such a hypersurface by its toric automorphism group is closely related to the weights and degree of the BHK mirror. As an application, we exhibit klt Calabi–Yau varieties with the smallest known minimal log discrepancy. We conjecture that these examples are optimal in every dimension.

Abstract:We discover a “no semistability at infinity” phenomenon for complete Calabi-Yau metrics asymptotic to cones, which is proved by eliminating the possible appearance of an intermediate K-semistable cone in the 2-step degeneration theory developed by Donaldson and the first author. It is in sharp contrast to the setting of local singularities of Kähler-Einstein metrics. A byproduct of the proof is a polynomial convergence rate to the asymptotic cone for such manifolds, which bridges the gap between the general theory of Colding-Minicozzi and the classification results of Conlon-Hein.

Abstract:We prove the continuity of logarithmic capacity under Hausdorff convergence of uniformly perfect planar sets. The continuity holds when the Hausdorff distance to the limit set tends to zero at sufficiently rapid rate, compared to the decay of the parameters involved in the uniformly perfect condition. Abstract:We study a pair consisting of a smooth 3-fold defined over an algebraically closed field and a "general" -ideal. We show that the minimal log discrepancy ("mld" for short) of every such a pair is computed by a prime divisor obtained by at most two weighted blow-ups. This bound is regarded as a weighted blow-up version of Mustaţă–Nakamura's conjecture. We also show that if the mld of such a pair is not less than 1, then it is computed by at most one weighted blow-up. As a consequence, ACC of mld holds for such pairs.

Abstract:For Hermitian connections on a Hermitian complex line bundle over a Riemannian manifold, we can define the ``volume", which can be considered to be the ``mirror" of the standard volume for submanifolds. We call the critical points minimal connections. In this paper, (1) we prove monotonicity formulas for minimal connections with respect to some versions of volume functionals, which would be important in bubbling analysis. As a corollary, we obtain the vanishing theorem for minimal connections in the odd-dimensional case. (2) We see that the formal ``large radius limit" of the defining equation of minimal connections is that of Yang-Mills connections. Then the existence theorem of minimal connections is proved for a ``sufficiently large" metric. (3) We can consider deformed Donaldson-Thomas (dDT) connections on $G_2$-manifolds as ``mirrors" of calibrated (associative) submanifolds. We show that dDT connections are minimal connections, just as calibrated submanifolds are minimal submanifolds. By the argument specific to dDT connections, we obtain the stronger monotonicity formulas and vanishing theorem for dDT connections than in (1).
