Abstract:Applying an original megaideal-based version of the algebraic method, we compute the point-symmetry pseudogroup of the dispersionless (potential symmetric) Nizhnik equation. This is the first example of this kind in the literature, where there is no need to use the direct method for completing the computation. The analogous studies are also carried out for the corresponding nonlinear Lax representation and the dispersionless counterpart of the symmetric Nizhnik system. We also first apply the megaideal-based version of the algebraic method to find the contact-symmetry (pseudo)group of a partial differential equation. It is shown that the contact-symmetry pseudogroup of the dispersionless Nizhnik equation coincides with the first prolongation of its point-symmetry pseudogroup. We check whether the subalgebras of the maximal Lie invariance algebra of the dispersionless Nizhnik equation that naturally arise in the course of the above computations define the diffeomorphisms stabilizing this algebra or its first prolongation. In addition, we construct all the third-order partial differential equations in three independent variables that admit the same Lie invariance algebra. We also find a set of geometric properties of the dispersionless Nizhnik equation that exhaustively defines it.

Abstract:This is a write-up of the lectures on dispersionless equations in 1+1, 2+1 and 3+1 dimensions presented by one of us (RM) at "Eurasian International Center for Theoretical Physics" (EICTP). We provide pedagogical introduction to the subject and summarize well-known results and some recent developments in theory of integrable dispersionless equations. Almost all results presented are available in the literatures. We just add some new results related to dispersionless limits of integrable magnetic equations. On the contrary, some of the basic tools of the integrable dispersionless systems and related theoretical techniques are not available in a pedagogical format. For this reason we think that it seems worthwhile to present basics of theory of dispersionless equations here for the benefit of beginner students. We begin with a detailed exposition of the well-known dispersionless systems like dKdVE, dNLSE, dKPE, dDSE and other classical soliton equations. We present in detail some new dispersionless systems. Next we develop the dispersionless limits of known magnetic equations. Lastly, we discuss in full detail the Lax representation formulation of some presented dispersionless equations. On the basis of the material presented here one can proceed smoothly to read the recent developments in this field of integrable dispersionless equations and related topics.

Abstract:In the present paper, we study the real and complex coupled dispersionless (CD) equations, the real and complex short pulse (SP) equations geometrically and algebraically. From the geometric point of view, we first establish the link of the motions of space curves to the real and complex CD equations, then to the real and complex SP equations via hodograph transformations. The integrability of these equations are confirmed by constructing their Lax pairs geometrically. In the second part of the paper, it is made clear for the connection between the real and complex CD and SP equations and the two‐component extended Kadomtsew‐Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy. As a by‐product, the N ‐soliton solutions in the form of determinants for these equations are provided.

Zero-curvature subconformal structures and dispersionless integrability in dimension five

Abstract:We extend the recent paradigm "Integrability via Geometry" from dimensions 3 and 4 to higher dimensions, relating dispersionless integrability of partial differential equations to curvature constraints of the background geometry. We observe that in higher dimensions on any solution manifold the symbol defines a vector distribution equipped with a subconformal structure, and the integrability imposes a certain compatibility between them. In dimension 5 we express dispersionless integrability via the vanishing of a certain curvature of this subconformal structure. We also obtain a "master equation" governing all second order dispersionless integrable equations in 5D, and count their functional dimension. It turns out that the obtained background geometry is parabolic of the type $(A_3,P_{13})$. We provide its Cartan theoretic description and compute the harmonic curvature components via the Kostant theorem. Then we relate it to 3D projective and 4D conformal geometries via twistor theory, discuss symmetry reductions and nested Lax sequences, as well as give another interpretation of dispersionless integrability in 5D through Levi-degenerate CR structures~in~7D.

The work lays the foundation for future research into symmetries, conservation laws, and Hamiltonian structures, offering avenues for further exploration.

Abstract:In this paper we consider mappings of jet spaces that preserve the module of canonical Pfaffian forms, but are not generally invertible. These mappings are called contact. A lemma on the prolongation of contact mappings is proved. Conditions are found for which mappings transform solutions of some partial differential equations into ones of other equations. Examples of contact mappings of differential equations are given. We consider contact mappings depending on a parameter and give example of differential equation invariant under the maps.

Abstract:The Cauchy matrix approach is developed for solving nonisospectral Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation and the nonisospectral modified Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation. By means of a Sylvester equation , a set of scalar master functions are defined. We derive the evolution of scalar functions using the nonisospectral dispersion relations. Some explicit solutions are illustrated together with the analysis of their dynamics.

Abstract:This paper introduces a (3 + 1)-dimensional dispersionless integrable system, utilizing a Lax pair involving contact vector fields, in alignment with methodologies presented by Sergyeyev in 2014. Significantly, it is shown that the proposed system serves as an integrable (3 + 1)-dimensional generalization of the well-studied (2 + 1)-dimensional dispersionless Davey–Stewartson system. This way, an interesting new example on integrability in higher dimensions is presented, with potential applications in analyzing three-dimensional nonlinear waves across various fields, including oceanography, fluid dynamics, plasma physics, and nonlinear optics. Importantly, the integrable nature of the system suggests that established techniques like the study of symmetries, conservation laws, and Hamiltonian structures could be applicable.

Abstract:We use a recently proposed scheme of matrix extension of dispersionless integrable systems in the Abelian case, leading to linear equations related to the original dispersionless system. In the examples considered, these equations can be interpreted in terms of Abelian gauge fields on the geometric background defined by a dispersionless system. They are also connected with the linearization of the original systems. We construct solutions of these linear equations in terms of wave functions of the Lax pair for the dispersionless system, which is represented in terms of some vector fields.

Abstract:We prove new well-posedness results for dispersion-generalized Kadomtsev--Petviashvili I equations in $\mathbb{R}^2$, which family links the classical KP-I equation with the fifth order KP-I equation. For strong enough dispersion, we show global well-posedness in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^2)$. To this end, we combine resonance and transversality considerations with Strichartz estimates and a nonlinear Loomis--Whitney inequality. Moreover, we prove that for small dispersion, the equations cannot be solved via Picard iteration. In this case, we use an additional frequency dependent time localization.

Abstract:In the recent paper [Stud. App. Math. 147 (2021) 752], squared eigenfunction symmetry constraint of the differential-difference modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (D$\Delta$mKP) hierarchy converts the D$\Delta$mKP system to the relativistic Toda spectral problem and its hierarchy. In this paper we introduce a new formulation of independent variables in the squared eigenfunction symmetry constraint, under which the D$\Delta$mKP system gives rise to the discrete spectral problem and a hierarchy of the differential-difference derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation of the Chen-Lee-Liu type. In addition, by introducing nonisospectral flows, two sets of symmetries of the D$\Delta$mKP hierarchy and their algebraic structure are obtained. We then present a unified continuum limit scheme, by which we achieve the correspondence of the mKP and the D$\Delta$mKP hierarchies and their integrable structures.

Abstract:Quasiclassical generalized Weierstrass representation (GWR) for highly corrugated surfaces with slow modulation in the four-dimensional Euclidean space is proposed. Integrable deformations of such surfaces are described by the dispersionless Davey-Stewartson hierarchy. Quasiclassical GWRs for other four-dimensional spaces and dispersionless DS system are discussed too.

Abstract:This paper develops the technique of constructing Lax representations for PDEs via non-central extensions of their contact symmetry algebras. We show that the method is applicable to the Lax representations with non-removable spectral parameters.

Abstract:Partial differential equations are used to model problems in many scientific fields. To solve these equations, analytical and numerical techniques are created. This study considers the conformable version of the expanded Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation in (2+1) -dimensions for the first time. New exact and approximative solutions to the equation that do not exist in the literature are obtained using the analytical techniques of the (G′/G) -expansion and modified Kudryashov methods, as well as the numerical technique residual power series method. To better understand the dynamic nature of these findings, we have given 3D, contour, and 2D plots of some of the solutions. The development of numerous new exact solutions has demonstrated the reliability and effectiveness of the methods. We also provide an approximation table of values for the approximate solutions of the given equation using different values for various parameters.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a discrete integrable system generalizing the discrete (real) cross-ratio system in $S^4$ to complex values of a generalized cross-ratio by considering $S^4$ as a real section of the complex Plücker quadric, realized as the space of two-spheres in $S^4.$ We develop the geometry of the Plücker quadric by examining the novel contact properties of two-spheres in $S^4,$ generalizing classical Lie geometry in $S^3.$ Discrete differential geometry aims to develop discrete equivalents of the geometric notions and methods of classical differential geometry. We define discrete principal contact element nets for the Plücker quadric and prove several elementary results. Employing a second real real structure, we show that these results generalize previous results by Bobenko and Suris $(2007)$ on discrete differential geometry in the Lie quadric.
