Abstract:The degree of commutativity of a finite group is the probability that two uniformly and randomly chosen elements commute. This notion extends naturally to finitely generated groups $G$: the degree of commutativity $\text{dc}_S(G)$, with respect to a given finite generating set $S$, results from considering the fractions of commuting pairs of elements in increasing balls around $1_G$ in the Cayley graph $\mathcal{C}(G,S)$. We focus on restricted wreath products the form $G = H \wr \langle t \rangle$, where $H \ne 1$ is finitely generated and the top group $\langle t \rangle$ is infinite cyclic. In accordance with a more general conjecture, we show that $\text{dc}_S(G) = 0$ for such groups $G$, regardless of the choice of $S$. This extends results of Cox who considered lamplighter groups with respect to certain kinds of generating sets. We also derive a generalisation of Cox's main auxiliary result: in `reasonably large' homomorphic images of wreath products $G$ as above, the image of the base group has density zero, with respect to certain types of generating sets.

Abstract:In this paper, the possible values of commutativity degree of Lie algebras are determined. Also, we define the asymptotic commutativity degree of Lie algebras and obtain the asymptotic commutativity degree for some of them. Moreover, we prove the existence of a family of Lie algebras such that the asymptotic commutativity degree is equal to 1\qk for all q greater than 2 and a positive integer k.

Abstract:The target of this article is to discuss the concept of \textit{commuting probability} of finite groups which, in short, is a probabilistic measure of how abelian our group is. We shall compute the value of commuting probability for many special classes of non-abelian groups and also establish some local and global bounds. We will conclude with a few topics for further reading.

Abstract:This paper is an attempt to find out which properties of a finite group G can be expressed in terms of commutators of elements of coprime orders. A criterion of solubility of G in terms of such commutators is obtained. We also conjecture that every element of a nonabelian simple group is a commutator of elements of coprime orders and we confirm this conjecture for the alternating groups.

Abstract:Fully commutative elements in types $B$ and $D$ are completely characterized and counted by Stembridge. Recently, Feinberg-Kim-Lee-Oh have extended the study of fully commutative elements from Coxeter groups to the complex setting, giving an enumeration of such elements in $G(m,1,n)$. In this note, we prove a connection between fully commutative elements in $B_n$ and in $G(m,1,n)$, which allows us to characterize fully commutative elements in $G(m,1,n )$ by pattern avoidance. Further, we present a counting formula for such elements in $G(m,1,n)$.

Abstract:Inspired by the commutator and anticommutator algebras derived from algebras graded by groups, we introduce noncommutatively graded algebras. We generalize various classical graded results to the noncommutatively graded situation concerning identity elements, inverses, existence of limits and colimits and adjointness of certain functors. In the particular instance of noncommutatively graded Lie algebras, we establish the existence of universal graded enveloping algebras and we show a graded version of the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem.

Abstract:In this paper we first show that among all double-toroidal and triple-toroidal finite graphs only $K_8 \sqcup 9K_1$, $K_8 \sqcup 5K_2$, $K_8 \sqcup 3K_4$, $K_8 \sqcup 9K_3$, $K_8\sqcup 9(K_1 \vee 3K_2)$, $3K_6$ and $3K_6 \sqcup 4K_4 \sqcup 6K_2$ can be realized as commuting graphs of finite groups. As consequences of our results we also show that for any finite non-abelian group $G$ if the commuting graph of $G$ (denoted by $\Gamma_c(G)$) is double-toroidal or triple-toroidal then $\Gamma_c(G)$ and its complement satisfy Hansen-Vuki{č}evi{ć} Conjecture and E-LE conjecture. In the process we find a non-complete graph, namely the non-commuting graph of the group $(\mathbb{Z}_3 \times \mathbb{Z}_3) \rtimes Q_8$, that is hyperenergetic. This gives a new counter example to a conjecture of Gutman regarding hyperenergetic graphs.

Abstract:We prove that if $G$ is a transitive permutation group of sufficiently large degree $n$, then either $G$ is primitive and Frobenius, or the proportion of derangements in $G$ is larger than $1/(2n^{1/2})$. This is sharp, generalizes substantially bounds of Cameron--Cohen and Guralnick--Wan, and settles conjectures of Guralnick--Tiep and Bailey--Cameron--Giudici--Royle in large degree. We also give an application to coverings of varieties over finite fields.

Abstract:In this short note we show that the path-connected component of the identity of the derived subgroup of a compact Lie group consists just of commutators. We also discuss an application of our main result to the homotopy type of the classifying space for commutativity for a compact Lie group whose path-connected component of the identity is abelian.

Abstract:Studying ceratin combinatorial properties of non-unique factorizations have been a subject of recent literatures. Little is known about two combinatorial invariants, namely the catenary degree and the tame degree, even in the case of numerical monoids. In this paper we compute these invariants for a certain class of numerical monoids generated by generalized arithmetic sequences. We also show that the difference between the tame degree and the catenary degree can be arbitrary large even if the number of minimal generators is fixed.

Abstract:Let K〈X〉 be a finite generated free associative algebra over a field K of characteristic zero and let f,g∈K〈X〉 generate their centralizer respectively. Assume that the f and g are algebraically independent, the leading homogeneous components of f and g are algebraically dependent and deg(f)∤deg(g), deg(g)∤deg(f). In this article, we construct a counterexample to a conjecture of Jie-Tai Yu that deg([f,g])>min{deg(f),deg(g)}, which is closely related to the study of the structure of the automorphism group of K〈X〉. We also obtain a counterexample to another related conjecture of Makar-Limanov and Jie-Tai Yu stated in terms of Malcev–Neumann formal power series. In view of the counterexamples we formulate two open problems concerning degree estimate for commutators in view of the study of the structure of the automorphism group of K〈X〉.The counterexamples in this article are constructed by applying the description of the free algebra K〈X〉 considered as a bimodule of K[u] where u is a monomial which is not a power of another monomial and the solution the equation [um,s]=[un,r] with unknowns r,s∈K〈X〉. The newly discovered description and the solution of the equation in this article are closely related to the combinatorial and computational aspects of free associative algebras, hence have their own independent interests.

Combinatorial invariants for certain classes of non-abelian groups

Abstract:This article focuses on the study of zero-sum invariants of finite non-abelian groups. We address two main problems: the first centers on the ordered Davenport constant and the second on Gao's constant. We establish a connection between the ordered Davenport constant and the small Davenport constant for a finite non-abelian group of even order, which in turn gives a relation with the Noether number. Additionally, we confirm a conjecture of Gao and Li for a non-abelian group of order $2p^{\alpha}$, where $p$ is a prime. Furthermore, we prove a conjecture that connects the ordered Davenport constant to the Loewy length for certain classes of finite $2$-groups.

Abstract:The catenary degree of an element $n$ of a cancellative commutative monoid $S$ is a nonnegative integer measuring the distance between the irreducible factorizations of $n$. The catenary degree of the monoid $S$, defined as the supremum over all catenary degrees occurring in $S$, has been heavily studied as an invariant of nonunique factorization. In this paper, we investigate the set $\mathsf C(S)$ of catenary degrees achieved by elements of $S$ as a factorization invariant, focusing on the case where $S$ in finitely generated (where $\mathsf C(S)$ is known to be finite). Answering an open question posed by García-Sánchez, we provide a method to compute the smallest nonzero element of $\mathsf C(S)$ that parallels a well-known method of computing the maximum value. We also give several examples demonstrating certain extremal behavior for $\mathsf C(S)$, and present some open questions for further study.

Super graphs on groups, II

Abstract:In an earlier paper, the authors considered three types of graphs, and three equivalence relations, defined on a group, viz.\ the power graph, enhanced power graph, and commuting graph, and the relations of equality, conjugacy, and same order; for each choice of a graph type A and an equivalence relation B, there is a graph, the \emph{B superA graph} defined on $G$. The resulting nine graphs (of which eight were shown to be in general distinct) form a two-dimensional hierarchy. In the present paper, we consider these graphs further. We prove universality properties for the conjugacy supergraphs of various types, adding the nilpotent, solvable and enhanced power graphs to the commuting graphs considered in the rest of the paper, and also examine their relation to the invariable generating graph of the group. We also show that supergraphs can be expressed as graph compositions, in the sense of Schwenk, and use this representation to calculate their Wiener index. We illustrate these by computing Wiener index of equality supercommuting and conjugacy supercommuting graphs for dihedral and quaternion groups.

Abstract:Continuing our work on group-theoretic generalizations of the prime Ax-Katz Theorem, we give a lower bound on the $p$-adic divisibility of the cardinality of the set of simultaneous zeros $Z(f_1,f_2,\ldots,f_r)$ of $r$ maps $f_j:A\rightarrow B_j$ between arbitrary finite commutative groups $A$ and $B_j$ in terms of the invariant factors of $A, B_1,B_2,\dotsc,B_r$ and the \emph{functional degrees} of the maps $f_1,f_2,\dotsc,f_r$.

Abstract:This book is an introductory course to basic commutative algebra with a particular emphasis on finitely generated projective modules. We adopt the constructive point of view, with which all existence theorems have an explicit algorithmic content content. In particular, when a theorem affirms the existence of an object -- the solution of a problem -- a construction algorithm of the object can always be extracted from the given proof. We revisit with a new and often simplifying eye several abstract classical theories. In particular, we review theories which did not have any algorithmic content in their general natural framework, such as Galois theory, the Dedekind domains, the finitely generated projective modules or the Krull dimension.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. Let [math] be a group. If the set [math] forms a subgroup of [math], then G is called [math]-group. Recently, it has been proven that the minimum coclass of a non-[math][math]-group is equal to [math]. In this paper, we deal with finite [math]-groups of coclass [math]. We prove that a finite [math]-group [math] of order [math], [math], of coclass [math] for an odd prime [math] is an [math]-group except when the nilpotency class of the second term of upper central series [math], [math], is equal to [math]. In particular, we show that in this case, center of [math], [math], and commutator subgroup [math], [math], are of order [math] and [math], respectively, and [math] is a group of order [math]. Also, we give some sufficient conditions on a finite 2-group [math] of coclass [math] implying that [math] is an [math]-group.
