Abstract:The quantum nonlinear dimer consisting of an electron shuttling between the two sites and in weak interaction with vibrations, is studied numerically under the application of a DC electric field. A field-induced resonance phenomenon between the vibrations and the electronic oscillations is found to influence the electronic transport greatly. For initially delocalization of the electron, the resonance has the effect of a dramatic increase in the transport. Nonlinear frequency mixing is identified as the main mechanism that influences transport. A characterization of the frequency spectrum is also presented.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to address the problem of how the non-adiabatic nonlinear interaction between electrons and lattice vibrations affects electron transport in a quantum dimer system under the influence of a DC electric field. Specifically, the authors investigate how the resonance phenomenon induced by the electric field significantly enhances electron transport when electrons oscillate between two sites and interact with lattice vibrations under weak coupling conditions. ### Main Issues: 1. **Enhancement of Electron Transport**: The paper explores how electron transport is significantly enhanced due to the resonance effect between lattice vibrations and electron oscillations under the influence of a DC electric field. 2. **Nonlinear Frequency Mixing**: The authors analyze the nonlinear frequency mixing mechanism, which is a major factor affecting electron transport. 3. **Characteristics of the Frequency Spectrum**: The paper characterizes the frequency spectrum of the system, particularly the low-frequency components (difference frequency generation) under resonance conditions. ### Research Background: - **Electron-Phonon System**: The interaction between electrons and phonons is an important research area in condensed matter physics. For example, under the influence of a constant electric field, the coupling between electrons and phonons can lead to the delocalization of initially localized Wannier-Stark states. - **Dynamic Localization**: Electrons subjected to a sinusoidally varying electric field in a lattice exhibit dynamic localization. - **Experimental Progress**: Advances in modern experimental techniques have made it possible to observe the nonlinear response of the system to external electric fields in real-time, such as through ultrafast spectroscopy. ### Research Methods: - **Numerical Simulation**: The authors studied the electron transport behavior in a quantum dimer system under the influence of a DC electric field through numerical simulations. - **Semiclassical Approximation**: In the semiclassical approximation, electrons are described as a quantum mechanical system, while lattice vibrations are described as classical harmonic oscillators. - **Dynamical Equations**: The dynamical equations describing the motion of electrons and the lattice were derived and analyzed under different parameter conditions. ### Main Findings: - **Resonance Enhancement**: When the bare frequency of the electrons is close to the frequency of the lattice vibrations, the system exhibits a resonance phenomenon, leading to a significant enhancement of electron transport. - **Difference Frequency Generation**: Under resonance conditions, the system generates low-frequency components (difference frequency generation), which are the key frequencies for electron tunneling between dimer sites. - **Nonlinear Mixing**: The introduction of the electric field leads to nonlinear mixing of the electron and lattice frequencies, generating new frequency components. ### Conclusion: - **Mechanism of Transport Enhancement**: The paper reveals that under the influence of a DC electric field, the resonance interaction between electrons and lattice vibrations significantly enhances electron transport through the mechanism of difference frequency generation. - **Application Prospects**: These findings are significant for understanding electron transport in systems limited to a few lattice points (such as superlattices), especially when the initial state is not a pure state. Through this research, the authors provide new insights into the complex behavior of electron-phonon systems under the influence of external electric fields.
