Abstract:This study investigates the properties of a novel composite material designed for dental applications, consisting of nanoparticles extracted from banyan aerial roots, reinforced with porcelain filler, and blended into a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) matrix. The primary focus is on evaluating the antimicrobial efficacy and analyzing the functional characteristics of the composite. Antibacterial testing against common oral pathogens demonstrates significant microbial growth inhibition, highlighting the composite's potential in preventing oral infections. X-ray Diffraction analysis reveals the crystalline nature of the composite, with distinct peaks confirming the presence of PMMA, banyan root nanoparticles, and porcelain filler. The sharp peak 2θ at around 29.2° with 2987 intensity is characteristic of the PMMA matrix, showcasing its semi-crystalline structure. Scanning Electron Microscopy examination shows a uniform dispersion of nanoparticles and a smooth surface morphology, indicative of effective material integration and potential for favorable mechanical properties. Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis complements SEM by identifying the elemental composition of 1.25% (Si) and 1.09% (Mg) verifying the inclusion of all components. The findings of this study suggest that the banyan root nanoparticle-reinforced porcelain filler blended with PMMA composite possesses promising antimicrobial properties, along with desirable physical and chemical characteristics can be used for medical instruments
