Abstract:Abstract The fractional calculus gains wide applications nowadays in all fields. The implementation of the fractional differential operators on the partial differential equations make it more reality. The space-time-fractional differential equations mathematically model physical, biological, medical, etc., and their solutions explain the real life problems more than the classical partial differential equations. Some new published papers on this field made many treatments and approximations to the fractional differential operators making them loose their physical and mathematical meanings. In this paper, I answer the question: why do we need the fractional operators?. I give brief notes on some important fractional differential operators and their Grünwald-Letnikov schemes. I implement the Caputo time fractional operator and the Riesz-Feller operator on some physical and stochastic problems. I give some numerical results to some physical models to show the efficiency of the Grünwald-Letnikov scheme and its shifted formulae. Abstract:In this paper, we introduce and thoroughly examine new generalized ψ-conformable fractional integral and derivative operators associated with the auxiliary function ψ(t). We rigorously analyze and confirm the essential properties of these operators, including their semigroup behavior, linearity, boundedness, and specific symmetry characteristics, particularly their invariance under time reversal. These operators not only encompass the well-established Riemann–Liouville and Hadamard operators but also extend their applicability. Our primary focus is on addressing complex fractional boundary value problems, specifically second-order nonlinear implicit ψ-conformable fractional integro-differential equations with nonlocal fractional integral boundary conditions within Banach algebra. We assess the effectiveness of these operators in solving such problems and investigate the existence, uniqueness, and Ulam–Hyers stability of their solutions. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the theoretical advancements and practical implications of our approach. Through this work, we aim to contribute to the development of fractional calculus methodologies and their applications.

Abstract:We introduce two kinds of fractional integral operators; the one is defined via the exponential-integral function $$ E_1(x)=\int_x^\infty \frac{e^{-t}}{t}\,dt,\quad x>0, $$ and the other is defined via the special function $$ \mathcal{S}(x)=e^{-x} \int_0^\infty \frac{x^{s-1}}{\Gamma(s)}\,ds,\quad x>0. $$ We establish different properties of these operators, and we study the relationship between the fractional integrals of first kind and the fractional integrals of second kind. Next, we introduce a new concept of fractional derivative of order $\alpha>0$, which is defined via the fractional integral of first kind. Using an approximate identity argument, we show that the introduced fractional derivative converges to the standard derivative in $L^1$ space, as $\alpha\to 0^+$. Several other properties are studied, like fractional integration by parts, the relationship between this fractional derivative and the fractional integral of second kind, etc. As an application, we consider a new fractional model of the relaxation equation, we establish an existence and uniqueness result for this model, and provide an iterative algorithm that converges to the solution.

Abstract:We describe a general operational method that can be used in the analysis of fractional initial and boundary value problems with additional analytic conditions. As an example, we derive analytic solutions of some fractional generalisation of differential equations of mathematical physics. Fractionality is obtained by substituting the ordinary integer-order derivative with the Caputo fractional derivative. Furthermore, operational relations between ordinary and fractional differentiation are shown and discussed in detail. Finally, a last example concerns the application of the method to the study of a fractional Poisson process.

Abstract:We investigate the properties of some recently developed variable-order differential operators involving order transition functions of exponential type. Since the characterisation of such operators is performed in the Laplace domain it is necessary to resort to accurate numerical methods to derive the corresponding behaviours in the time domain. In this regard, we develop a computational procedure to solve variable-order fractional differential equations of this novel class. Furthermore, we provide some numerical experiments to show the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.

Abstract:Generalized fractional operators are generalization of the Riemann-Liouville and Caputo fractional derivatives, which include Erdélyi-Kober and Hadamard operators as their special cases. Due to the complicated form of the kernel and weight function in the convolution, it is even harder to design high order numerical methods for differential equations with generalized fractional operators. In this paper, we first derive analytical formulas for α-th (α>0) order fractional derivative of Jacobi polynomials. Spectral approximation method is proposed for generalized fractional operators through a variable transform technique. Then, operational matrices for generalized fractional operators are derived and spectral collocation methods are proposed for differential and integral equations with different fractional operators. At last, the method is applied to generalized fractional ordinary differential equation and Hadamard-type integral equations, and exponential convergence of the method is confirmed. Further, based on the proposed method, a kind of generalized grey Brownian motion is simulated and properties of the model are analyzed.

Abstract:Fractional calculus is the calculus of differentiation and integration of non-integer orders. In a recently paper (Annals of Physics 323 (2008) 2756-2778), the Fundamental Theorem of Fractional Calculus is highlighted. Based on this theorem, in this paper we introduce fractional series expansion method to fractional calculus. We define a kind of fractional Taylor series of an infinitely fractionally-differentiable function. Further, based on our definition we generalize hypergeometric functions and derive corresponding differential equations. For finitely fractionally-differentiable functions, we observe that the non-infinitely fractionally-differentiability is due to more than one fractional indices. We expand functions with two fractional indices and display how this kind of series expansion can help to solve fractional differential equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new method for calculating fractional integrals and differentials. The method involves an equation that we have obtained from infinite applied integration by parts. The equation works for special class of functions and provides a series representation of integration. This representation will be useful for working with smooth functions and for approximation due to the potential reduction of the value of the sequential elements.

Abstract:In this article, we initially provided the relationship between the RL fractional integral and the Caputo fractional derivative of different orders. Additionally, it is clear from the literature that studies into boundary value problems involving multi‐term operators have been conducted recently, and the aforementioned idea is used in the formulation of several novel models. We offer a unique coupled system of fractional delay differential equations with proper respect for the role that multi‐term operators play in the research of fractional differential equations, taking into account the newly established solution for fractional integral and derivative. We also made the assumptions that connected integral boundary conditions would be added on top of n ‐fractional differential derivatives. The requirements for the existence and uniqueness of solutions are also developed using fixed‐point theorems. While analyzing various sorts of Ulam's stability results, the qualitative elements of the underlying model will also be examined. In the paper's final section, an example is given for purposes of demonstration.

Numerical Simulations for Fractional Differential Equations of Higher Order and a Wright-Type Transformation

Abstract:In this work, a new relationship is established between the solutions of higher fractional differential equations and a Wright-type transformation. Solutions could be interpreted as expected values of functions in a random time process. As applications, we solve the fractional beam equation, fractional electric circuits with special functions as external sources, and derive dAlemberts formula for the fractional wave equation. Due to this relationship, we present two methods for simulating solutions of fractional differential equations. The two approaches use the interpretation of the Caputo derivative of a function as a Wright-type transformation of the higher derivative of the function. In the first approach, we use the Runge-Kutta method of hybrid orders 4 and 5 to solve ordinary differential equations combined with the Monte Carlo integration to conduct the Wrighttype transformation. The second method uses a feedforward neural network to simulate the fractional differential equation.

Abstract:Theoretical and numerical studies of fractional conformable stochastic integrodifferential equations are introduced in this study. Herein, to emphasize the solution's existence, we provide proof based on Picard iterations and Arzela−Ascoli's theorem, whilst the proof of the uniqueness mainly depends on the famous Gronwall's inequality. Also, we introduce the basic concepts related to shifted Legendre orthogonal polynomials which are utilized to be the basic functions of the spectral collocation algorithm to obtain approximate solutions for the mentioned equations that are not easy to be solved analytically. The substantial idea of the proposed algorithm is to transform such equations into a system containing a finite number of algebraic equations that can be treated using familiar numerical methods. For computational aims, we make a suitable discretization to evaluate the values of the Brownian motion, the noise term considered in our problem, at specific points. In addition, the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed algorithm are proved through convergence analysis and mathematical examples. To exhibit the mathematical simulation, graphs and tables are lucidly shown. Obviously, the physical interpretation of the displayed graphics accurately describes the behavior of the solutions. Despite the simplicity of the presented technique, it produces accurate and reasonable results as notarized in the conclusion section.

Abstract:In this work, novel type of fractional polynomials are proposed as the generalization to shifted Lucas polynomials, which are called as fractional shifted Lucas polynomials. Useful operational matrices are developed here utilizing the newly established analytical formula for the construction of the numerical scheme. Further, a theorem for the calculation of Caputo fractional derivative is proved and an useful remark is provided for integer order derivative. At the core of the work, the task is to use collocation points for tackling the multi-term differential equations/multi-order differential equations (MODEs/MTDEs). To develop the strong background for the proposed scheme, error analysis is performed. The algorithm of the scheme is examined through some test examples of MODEs/MTDEs, and comparisons are made with other existing methods.

Abstract:The focus of this investigation centers on the formulation of a novel spectral method deployed to numerically solve partial integro-differential equations that possess memory features. The approach leverages the hexic shifted Chebyshev polynomials, and addresses the nonlinearity of the computational output using iterative methods. A comprehensive explanation of the methodology is presented, and a thorough convergence analysis is conducted. This technique has the capacity to be effortlessly modified and used to solve a plethora of linear and nonlinear issues, while minimizing computational time. Ultimately, the effectiveness of this novel strategy is demonstrated through the successful resolution of two exemplary problems. The findings of this study suggest that this spectral approach holds significant promise for solving partial integro-differential equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the commutator of the Caputo fractional derivative and the shift operator. Consequently, we sharpen the recent (Diethelm and Tuan, 2022) on the separation of solutions to fractional equations. As a byproduct, we also obtain the sub and super multiplicative laws of Mittag-Leffler functions, which play an essential role in our approach to fractional Halanay type inequalities. Furthermore, by utilizing the estimate of the commutator, we provide an upper bound with an exact decaying rate for the separation of solutions to delay fractional equations under a flexible condition. This upper bound can be seen as a generalization of previous fractional Halanay type inequalities with bounded delay, which improves both (Wang and Zou, 2019) and (Huong et al., 2023). Finally, we gain practical sufficient criteria for the (strict) Mittag-Leffler stability and finite-time attractivity for a class of delay fractional equations. Some concrete examples are examined to illustrate these results.

Abstract:In this paper we show how the spectral theory based on the notion of S-spectrum allows us to study new classes of fractional diffusion and of fractional evolution processes. We prove new results on the quaternionic version of the H∞$${H^\infty}$$ functional calculus and we use it to define the fractional powers of vector operators. The Fourier law for the propagation of the heat in non homogeneous materials is a vector operator of the formT=e1a(x)∂x1+e2b(x)∂x2+e3c(x)∂x3$$T = e_{1} a(x)\partial_{x1} + e_{2} b(x)\partial_{x2} + e_{3} c(x)\partial_{x3}$$where eℓ,ℓ=1,2,3$${e_{\ell}, {\ell} = 1, 2, 3}$$ are orthogonal unit vectors, a, b, c are suitable real valued functions that depend on the space variables x=(x1,x2,x3)$${x = (x_{1}, x_{2}, x_{3})}$$ and possibly also on time. In this paper we develop a general theory to define the fractional powers of quaternionic operators which contain as a particular case the operator T so we can define the non local version Tα,forα∈(0,1)$${T^{\alpha}, {\rm for} \alpha \in (0, 1)}$$, of the Fourier law defined by T. Our new mathematical tools open the way to a large class of fractional evolution problems that can be defined and studied using our spectral theory based on the S-spectrum for vector operators. This paper is devoted to researchers working on fractional diffusion and fractional evolution problems, partial differential equations, non commutative operator theory, and quaternionic analysis.

Abstract:We show how a rescaling of fractional operators with bounded kernels may help circumvent their documented deficiencies, for example, the inconsistency at zero or the lack of inverse integral operator. On the other hand, we build a novel class of linear operators with memory effects to extend the L-fractional and the ordinary derivatives, using probability tools. A Mittag-Leffler-type function is introduced to solve linear problems, and nonlinear equations are solved with power series, illustrating the methods for the SIR model. The inverse operator is constructed, and a fundamental theorem of calculus and an existence-and-uniqueness result for differential equations are proved. A conjecture on deconvolution is raised, that would permit completing the proposed theory.

A tau-Gegenbauer spectral approach for systems of fractional integro-differential equations with the error analysis

Abstract:This research paper focused on the solution of systems of fractional integro-differential equations (FIDEs) of the Volterra type with variable coefficients. The proposed approach combined the tau method and shifted Gegenbauer polynomials in a matrix form. The investigation of the existence and uniqueness of solutions for these systems was carried out using Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem. The equations employed Caputo-style derivative operators, and to minimize computational operations involving derivatives and multiplications, integral and product operational matrices were derived. By introducing suitable polynomial approximations and employing the tau spectral method, the original system of FIDE was transformed into an algebraic system. Solving this algebraic system provided approximate solutions to the main system. Error bounds were computed in the Gegenbauer-weighted Sobolev space. The proposed algorithm was implemented and tested on two systems of integro-fractional differential equations to demonstrate its efficiency and simplicity. By varying the parameter $ \sigma $ in the Gegenbauer polynomials, the impact of this variation on the approximate solutions can be observed. A comparison with another method utilizing the block-by-block approach was also presented.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a class of partial integro-differential equations of fractional order, motivated by an equation which arises as a result of modeling surface-volume reactions in optical biosensors. We solve these equations by employing techniques from fractional calculus; several examples are discussed. Furthermore, for the first time, we encounter an order of the fractional derivative other than $\frac{1}{2}$ in an applied problem. Hence, in this paper we explore the applicability of fractional calculus in real-world applications, further strengthening the true nature of fractional calculus.

Abstract:ABSTRACT In this paper, we present a numerical scheme based on a modified form of shifted Chebyshev polynomials to find the numerical solution of a class of fractional differential equations. For this purpose, we work out operational matrices of fractional integration of ‐shifted Chebyshev polynomials obtained from shifted Chebyshev polynomials. Finally, the solution to the problem under consideration is obtained by solving a system of algebraic equations that results from the use of operational matrices of integration. The analysis of integer and non‐integer order differential equations is presented to show the convergence of the solution of fractional order differential equation to the corresponding solution of the integer order differential equation. At the end, we present some linear and non‐linear examples to validate the theoretical analysis. Non‐linear examples are solved using Quasilinearization and proposed numerical technique.
